36 Warnings problem of the 2022 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

Vehicle navigation system crashes with a black screen once or twice a day. While the system is rebooting, navigation, eyesight and reverse automatic braking are disabled. Needless to say, this is very distracting and especially bad since eyesight is required to avoid a collision. This has happened multiple times over the 11 months that I've owned the vehicle.

37 Warnings problem of the 2022 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/04/2022

My wife was driving and was involved in traffic accident when the airbags deployed. She is a small person and has the driver's seat pulled all the way forward so she operate the vehicle. I was concern about her seating so close the steering wheel and the airbag, but told by the dealer personnel that airbags where mandatory and any tampering voids warranty, etc. She was in an accident and the airbag deployed, she suffered substantial injuries to her upper body including fractures of the clavicule, breastbone, numerous ribs and her t12. Doctors said it was almost miraculous she survived. The is significant data available on the impact of airbags. The forces expended and the bodily damages that can occur. It must be known the a body so close to the activation of the airbag could have fatal consequence but so little has been made public about this danger. We've heard about devices exploding and causing injuries and fatalities but from sitting so close to the steering wheel. And a simple fix, if the seat is fully forward, the airbag is deactivated or test to find a place where it would not be a dangerous weapon. To be injured severely or even killed by safety equipment is the height of stupidity especially when it worked as designed.

38 Warnings problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/16/2022

I own a 2016 Subaru Outback. While driving approximately 40:mph on a local main road (CT rte 10) the eyesight pre-collision brake assist suddenly activated and caused the vehicle to completely stop. The brakes then released and I was able to continue driving. This is the second incident with in a month that this has happened. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000 there were no prior warning lights or engine lights on. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer. This sudden stopping can cause an accident.

39 Warnings problem of the 2022 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/10/2022

I have videos. I have been having major issues with a lot of aspects of the car. However, the most concerning is the obstacle detection going off randomly when there is nothing in front of the car, and the other major issue is that the lane assist feature keeps pulling the car out of the lane I am in. Randomly throughout a cruise control drive, the car will pull towards an inner lane. I fight with the car to keep it in the correct lane. If I relax my grip even slightly, the car pulls me into the other lanes of traffic. I am finding that it is most determined to pull me out of my lane when there are cars in the lane next to the one I’m driving. In other words, it never tries to pull me off the road. It always tries to pull me into other lanes of traffic. I’ve been driving the car for 6 months. It’s been doing this since the first month.

42 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 10/15/2021

Head unit shuts off while driving with no warning, and no clear cause. All safety features shut off including eyesight and rear brake assist (shows as off in instrumental panel). It has happened multiple times in the past several months ( at least seven times) head unit then appears to restart while underway, as if I had just entered and started the vehicle. Contacted dealer who said “the radio sometimes shuts off”. I explained that it was the entire head unit and safety features. It was simply left with them saying they have know of it happening, but no action or follow up was recommended. Time of incident is an estimate. Electronics seem to be slow to start when vehicle is first started. Was not able to get photos while driving.

44 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/17/2021

I heard a pebble tap the windshield and I immediately saw a crack from the passenger side to the middle of the windshield. I just had the windshield replaced on 6 Aug 2021. It costs $600 just to calibrate the cameras. Then the cost of replacing the windshield. This isn't right. I've had plenty of vehicles and this is the worst windshield I have seen. The windshield didn't last 1600 miles. And this is the first time I have been back on the interstate since getting the windshield replaced in August. I am not happy and I think this is a safety hazard.

45 Warnings problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/06/2021

The windshield on my Subaru developed a crack across the length of windshield after a minor rock impact. A few weeks later a second crack developed randomly. The new crack crosses infront of the eyesight system. I am concerned the cracks interfere with the vehicles eye sight system. I believe the windshield is defective and creates safety hazard as the cracks blocks visibility and also affect the eyesight system. I contacted Subaru and the dealer advised the defect was not covered under my warranty and would cost more than $1000 to repair.

46 Warnings problem of the 2021 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/04/2021

The emergency braking forward collision system has deployed several times when it should not. In some circumstance the braking could result in the person behind me rear ending me. The main problem is that if the car detects another car directly in front of you, the system will sometimes deploy even if the vehicle is not in the same lane as you. I've had the emergency brakes deployed incorrectly in the following situations. I am driving in the left lane of a 2 lane road with a speed limit of 45 mph and the road is banking sharply to the left. Because of the sharp bank, a car was directly in front of me but in the right lane, so this is a normal non dangerous situation but the brakes deployed. I exited a parkway, the exit ramp banks sharply to the right as most exit ramps do. Directly ahead of me but off the road is a disabled vehicle. There is no danger to me as it is safely off the road, but the brakes were deployed. In both instances there was no one following close behind me but if there was, either situation could have resulted in them rear ending me. I have taken to disabling the emergency braking feature because I no longer feel safe using it. Unfortunately this takes 7 key presses to accomplish and it resets every time you turn the car on. I contacted Subaru customer service to complain, but got ridiculous suggestions, like just turn off the emergency braking when you expect to be driving with a lot of cross traffic. If not rectified, sooner or later that's going to cause an accident.

47 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/27/2021

Windshield cracked causing a problem with "front eyesight collision" right side does not see large vehicles in right lane. Left side works fine.

48 Warnings problem of the 2021 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/05/2021

We bought this vehicle new and since we have had issues with the infotainment shutting down multiple times while driving. The infotainment screen along with all safety features associated with the electronic panel turn off. We have taken it to the dealership multiple times and keep getting told that they can't replicate the problem. We have recorded the issue and sent proof but Subaru manufacturing keeps delaying any inquiries in hopes to bypass lemon law.

49 Warnings problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/04/2021

Drove into the walgreen's parking lot, made several low speed turns to arrive at the west side of the building. Pulled into an empty parking space. Entered parking space at very low rate of speed and proceeded to brake to a full stop. Moved shift lever with the intent to move transmission from drive to park and despite my foot still being on the brake, the car suddenly lurched forward, drove over the curb and sidewalk, crossed sidewalk and hit the side of the store (a brick wall). Car bounced back to a midpoint of the sidewalk. Engine was still running but car came to a full stop. I turned off the engine. Two walgreen employees came out to see if I was ok (they heard the impact). I told them I was but later my chest hurt and I found a bruise suggesting impact with the steering wheel. Entire front of car is damaged. There were no warning notifications from the car (no parking or forward collision warnings). My right foot never left the brake pedal. The "unexpected acceleration" lunge forward occurred with the attempted shift of the transmission from drive to park. The transmission ended up being in neutral when the car finally stopped moving. Floor mat was in the normal position, secured by the built-in pins, had not shifted and was not near the brake or accelerator (gas) pedal. Cruise control was not turned on. This was a routine trip to a local store.

51 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/08/2021

The electronic controls black out while driving the entire center screen and electronics shut down disabling the warning lights and I think also the electronic systems that function to control the safety warnings and functionality. This has been a problem on an ongoing basis since the purchase of the vehicle. This has been "repaired" multiple times by the dealer under the direction of Subaru. There was a recall earlier this year that was supposed to correct the problem it added some functionality, but primarily this recall reprogramming of the electronics was supposed to correct the blacking out of electronics and the disabling of the safety systems. The recall reprogramming has not corrected the problem. When I complained to Subaru they suggested that I take a video of the failure when it happened. I explained that this was not possible because I was driving at 70 mph when it happened and could not just grab my phone and start a video while driving on I-95. Last week I was able to get a video of the failure as it happened while my wife was driving and I was a passenger. The entire panel blacked out and she pulled to the side of the road and I took a video of the 4 minutes the system was out. I will attach this video to this report. In addition there is an additional problem that occurred related to the lane keep assist function. There are four options to configure this function they are: 1> off 2> warning buzzer only 3> lane keep function only 4> all functions. My understanding of the operation of this system has one function that shuts the system off that is obviously the off function. #2 although only a buzzer has the system on, #3 has the functionality working but no warning buzzer (my preferred choice) and #4 that has all functions operating both warning buzzer and lane keep functions. My concern is that if you use #3 the system shows a warning light on the dash that shows the system if off. I have video of the electronics but don't know how to upload it.

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

Ever since the recall for the cockpit control system software was updated on my 2020 Subaru Outback touring on March 1, 2021 the console randomly reboots. It has happened 6 times in 3 weeks. On a recent trip on Thursday March 25, 2021 the console rebooted 3 times in a little over an hour. When that happens the safety functions are disabled - pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure and sway warning with lane keep assist, etc.

58 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/22/2021

My 2020 Subaru Outback has had a 2nd incident with a windshield crack that dramatically spread more than a foot long across the windshield, starting from a pin-needle-sized hole near the bottom left corner, I. E. , on the passenger side of the windshield. I was driving on the freeway around speed limit when a pebble hit it, causing the tiny hole, which only erupted into a huge crack after I parked it. I've only had the car for exactly 1 year when it happened and it's only been driven for less than 6,000 miles. The windshield seems thin and not durable.

60 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

On Tuesday 9 February, 2021 I was returning home from picking my two children up from school (age 4 and 6). As I approached the drive way the brakes functioned properly to allow me to turn into the driveway, but suddenly the brakes stopped functioning and the car accelerated driving straight through my closed garage door. I was able to control steering but regardless of my foot pressing firmly on the brake pedal, the car continued to accelerate. Thankfully, installed in the cement was a rogue r3 weight rack that was bolted into the cement at four locations. The car proceeded forward until colliding with the weight rack, a mere 3 feet from our hvac system and the home structure. I immediately turned the vehicle off. If the weight rack did not stop the vehicle myself and my two children could have been significantly injured, not to mention, if my husband or two small children were in the garage at the time, this could have potentially resulted in death. My air bogs did not deploy, the auto collision safety mechanism failed. This is a very dangerous situation. We bought this vehicle with extended warranty in hopes to keep this as a family vehicle for many years to come, primary reason for purchase was safety. This vehicle is not safe and I am afraid to drive it. My vehicle was immediately towed to rpm performance in burlington washington for inspection. Later, brought to dwayne lanes Subaru (purchase location) for inspection. Findings were that the vehicle operated as designed and driver is at fault. This vehicle is defective. Dangerously unsafe and this must be made highest priority to prevent future accidents and potential deaths.

64 Warnings problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

When apple carplay is being used, the multimedia display has frozen several times and when it freezes, the resets itself to a black screen. Once it resets to a black screen, the eyesight is disabled and rab (reverse automatic braking) is disabled. I have had a moment where the screen was completely black and both things were disabled for over 15 minutes while I was driving. Until the moment I turned off the car did it stop showing the issue but this wasn't the first instance of it happening. The moment I do need the eyesight would be too late since it's disabled. I've recorded several videos of this happening and I've taken it to the dealership but they tell me nothing can be done since they can't duplicate the issue and that the video recording is "hypothetical. " I've uploaded some of the videos I've recorded onto youtube for you to check and verify. . Read more...

69 Warnings problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

My vehicle developed a crack that has transversed the entirety of the windshield, necessitating its replacement. The crack began on the lower left (driver's) side and moved across to the right (passenger's) side before curving back and upward toward the location of the rearview mirror. This has obscured the eye sight cameras and impaired the safety mechanisms in the vehicle. The vehicle was parked when the crack began with no precipitating damage observed to the windshield. The crack continued to grow over the course of several days. ~`````````````.
