40 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2011

My 2007 Suzuki Forenza has 51,000 miles and it appears the transmission range sensor has failed. I only use my car for normal driving from home to work which is about 20 miles one way and other in-town drives such as school or groceries. I live in phoenix, az so heat maybe a factor. About twice a week for the last month, when im at a stop the transmission seems to get stuck in second gear with no indication (sometimes check engine light will be on) until I accelerate. Few times ive been close to being in accidents while making left turns. Suzuki has told me that the sensor is not under warranty and will cost around $300 to repair.

46 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

2007 Suzuki Forenza transmission range sensor - needs to be replaced, car has problems going from 0-50 mphs in drive; dealer states that they are the only ones that have the part to fix it and it costs about 200. 00 to repair; car barely is over 40,000 miles, can't find part anywhere but dealership and they state they are the only ones who can fix it.

47 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Transmission shift sensor is what everything points to. When operating the vehicle in drive, the transmission suddenly ceases to operate correctly, and seems as if it has shifted into neutral. The shift selection indicator on the display panel shows a fault and the check engine light comes on. Upon investigating the issue online it seems as though this has become a recent issue with the Suzuki Forenza in the past months, ranging between the 2007 and 2008 models. This failure poses many safety concerns.

48 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

Suzuki Forenza 2007, 42,000 miles. 1) transmission range sensor: transmission slips when in drive -- panel shows a "d" with a slash through it. After researching, have found this to be extremely common among the most well-maintained Forenzas. Unacceptable. Engine light came on and as soon as I tried to go forward ,the car would just decelerate down like 10 or 20 mph "scary" within a matter of seconds and no matter how much I pushed the pedal to accelerate to the floor but it was as if I didn't have power. 2)tire pressure light comes on every other day. 3)the front passenger air bag light comes on to show the air bag is not working even if I have a passenger seated properly in the front seat.

49 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I was running the car in drive and go to take off and it feels as the transmission is slipping, with a heavy club to the car underside and then the check engine light came on and as soon as I tried to go forward it was as if I didn't have power. I try to take the car to be checked out and the light had reset and no code could be read. Then it happen driving at a faster speed the car just acted like it shifted to a lower gear and it revved up and then no power, once I tried to go again. Again, light went out before getting it read. This happened repeatedly over 2 weeks, finally got into auto zone to have it read and the car coded with a p0705 code, which is the transmission range sensor. After doing research on the problem I noticed that it is very common and the dealership stated that they see 10 a month for the same problem. Sad that no one has seen to recall this part, it's scary and dangerous to have this occur while driving, when it's a $40. 00 part we are talking about over my life. Please investigate this more. 50 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

We have a 2007 Suzuki Forenza with 54,000 miles on it. Today it began to decelerate quickly on a highway almost causing us to get hit. My father is a mechanic and put it on the computer. The codes p0700 and p0705 came up indicating that the transmission range sensor has gone bad. The sensor is not covered under the drive train warranty as it is electrical. This is dangerous. We have a 9-month-old daughter who could of been seriously injured had we of gotten in an accident.

51 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the check engine light would intermittently illuminate and the transmission would exhibit signs of slippage. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that the transmission range sensor had failed. The defective sensor would cause the transmission to slip and the vehicle would not accelerate accordingly. The vehicle was not repaired and the VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.

52 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza purchased brand new June 2007. The transmission improperly shift gears. The vehicle would display 1st gear or neutral on the indicator panel while in the drive mode. The dealer replaced the transmission range sensor. After the repair the vehicle would not accelerate past 15 mph. As a consequence she was rear-ended by another vehicle. There was minor damage done to the rear of the vehicle. No repairs have been made to date to correct the failure. After the incident the failure became progressively worse. Also the check engine warning light illuminated on the warning panel. The failure mileage was 44,121 and the current was 47, 870.

53 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

I own a 2007 Forenza in which a few weeks ago I notice it was not shifting out gears right. Then it got worse and would actually stop moving and just rev up. I almost was in an accident because of this luckily the truck had good brakes. I took my car in and the cashier told me what it probably was before they even looked at it and she made a statement that all the Forenza are having this problem not to mention the was 14 in the service area. Anyway the shop told me it was my transmission range sensor and it was not covered in my powertrain warranty go figure. . So it was 215. 00 out of pocket. . I feel that if this is a common problem it could eventually claim lives.

54 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

My daughter owns a 2007 Forenza; she was recently driving down the road and began to notice a hesitation on the vehicle while driving; she then felt an acceleration and a deceleration on the vehicle - as if it wanted to stall and shut off. A few days later she was about to park and felt a sudden jerk and funny sound coming from the engine compartment - she turned off the vehicle and waited for approximately one hour; the vehicle started and she was told to leave it at home. The following day I brought it in to a Suzuki dealer for service - I was told that the transmission sensor needed to be replaced - thank god my 19 year old did not get involved in an auto accident to the acceleration of this vehicle. Please have this sensor checked out on all your Suzuki Forenza's. Oh and give thanks to the fact that my warranty still had 3,000 miles left on it. I am now in doubt of this Suzuki - I would feel much more comfortable if Suzuki would extend their warranty to 5 years/50,000 miles instead 3 years/36,000 miles. I believe if Suzuki believes in their vehicles then they should honor the request.

55 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2009

The check engine light has been coming on and off for several weeks. Had it diagnosed and it is the transmission sensor (not covered by warranty), powertrain -yes not sensor. It only has 41,000 miles and has had regular dealership maintenance. Dealer knew exactly what the problem was - said he'd had more than 10 this week with the same problem. Can you say recall!!!.

56 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

I am sick and tired of replacing my transmission range sensor!!!!!!!!!! and now after doing so, once again. My car wont start, battery is fine. I think that this needs to be a recall!!!! I have one more year left to pay off this car. I cant afford to keep replacing this problem. Had to replace this problem in 2009, and now again. Someone fix this!!!!.

57 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2009

When you drive car, engine cut power it is happen 34000 mile and still same problem. Inside door handle broke many times. They replace and again they are broke. Seat belt stuck and does not work. Transmission sensor goes out and replace at 54000 mile. Now when start car engine is shaking.

58 Transmission Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2008

I am the owner of a 2007 Suzuki Forenza with a recurring transmission range sensor failure. Out of the 7 years I have owned the vehicle, I have had to replace the transmission range sensor every 14 months like clockwork. No other dealer other than an authorized Suzuki dealer is able to replace the range sensor. The failure causes the vehicle to abruptly engage into neutral without warning. On several occasions, I have attempted to accelerate from a complete stop and the vehicle would drag or would not accelerate over 10 mph. On one instance, I was rear-ended due to the failure but luckily no one was injured. I believe that Suzuki knows there is an issue with the sensor, which is a major problem for an such an important component on the vehicle. This could cost someone their life! please do something or at least have Suzuki stop replacing the failure part with a defective part that they know is going to fail within 14 months. The failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.
