My 2006 Suzuki Forenza switched into neutral at 60 mph on a road with no shoulder. I had my three small children in the back seat and was terrified that I would be rear ended injuring and possibly killing them as I had no power to accelerate. I was also unable to get far enough off the road because I was unable to reverse. I had to call my husband help me to get my kids out of the vehicle on the side of a busy and narrow road. This incident was caused by a failure of the trans range sensor which has become and extremely common problem with the Suzuki Forenza. This part must be recalled as it presents an immediate and ongoing risk to the to the lives of Suzuki owners and passengers as well as other drivers. It is unacceptable to have a vehicle repeatedly pose such a risk to the lives of families and for Suzuki to refuse to recall the part that is causing the problem.

My first exp. With this problem happened as I was backing out of a parking space . I put the car in reverse and it went back, but I put in drive it would not move, so I put in 3rd gear and it move forward slowly until put in drive again and it worked. Second time a was driving about 40 mph and all of a sudden the car goes into neutral and I lose power , again I put in 3rd and power catches luckily no one behind me to slam into me. I took it to the dealer and asked if there had been a recall on this problem ,they said no but would check it out for 90 dollars! they could not reproduce the problem and didn't do anything. Third time tonight 1-20-13 im leaving work and the car gets me to the grocery sore alright, but leaving for home it goes from drive to neutral and no power again put it 3rd and I get home driving 15 mph . When trying to park it wont go into park I have to put in neutral ,turn key off and hand brake . Turned the car back on to see if it would work right and all I would get was a slash over the p and the d.

The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated when the vehicle was shifted into drive an "x" mark appeared over the drive sign. The contact was not sure what the "x" mark indicated. In addition, the vehicle stalled and shook abnormally as the contact shifted into drive. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised the contact that the gear shift sensor needed to be replaced. The contact did not have the gift shift sensor replaced. The failure mileage was 70,000.
My check engine light came on to find that my transmission switch had gone bad causing it not to shift correctly. . . . Thinking no big deal, I took it to my mechanic. He said these transmissions were known as throw away transmissions. I came home and googled my problem to find numerous lower mileage Suzuki Forenzas with the same issue, some almost causing accidents. Please consider a mandatory recall on this part.
Accelerating up a hill, the check engine light came on solid (not flashing) and the "d" on the dash display where "drive" is signaled was flashing an incomprehensible icon that was not found in the owner's manual (looked like a square with two slashes through it. ) the new transmission signal would flash for 10-15 miles or so starting during acceleration. The part that the dealership replaced was a "transmission range switch. ".
Brakes would not work at all! transmission will randomly not go anywhere (sometimes it works sometimes it dosent) I had to swerve out of the way into a persons yard so avoid an accident.
When I start the car it clunks into reverse and clunks into drive. Seems the throttle sensor and the transmission range finder is out. I have been all over the internet and it seems this is a common problem. I want to know why this hasn't been recalled. Also replace both of my front struts 6 months ago which obviously is another problem with this car. I still owe on a loan on this car and can't even get to work because of all the problems it has.
Today my wife noticed that the battery indicator and brake indicator lights illuminated on the cluster panel this morning while driving to work, as well as the speedo needle bouncing around when coming to a stop. I picked up the car and drove it to auto zone to see if there were not any obd ii codes stored. I too noticed the brake/battery lights, as well as the speedo needle would jump when I used my turn signals. I got it to auto zone and there were no codes stored. It was after the code scanner was hooked up my real problems began. When putting the car in gear (either d or r) it would slam into gear, the speedo didn't work and to top it all off, the car had no acceleration. I had this issue before, and it turned out it was the transmission range selector. Well, that was replaced no less than 10k miles ago. Please, someone place this car on the lemon list so I can recoup my losses. When there is next to no acceleration, it can cause an accident because the car can not move fast enough to avoid getting clipped (or worse).
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, there was an increase in engine rpms, the check engine warning lamp illuminated and the transmission hesitated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 75,000.
I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. Often when I put the car into gear, it "clunks. " then when I am driving down the road, no matter what the speed, the car shifts itself into neutral. I can drive if I put it into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear after it shifts into neutral. After several minutes or later in the day I can get the car into drive again, but the problem repeats itself daily.
I was driving home and the car suddenly went into neutral gear luckily I was able to pull over without being hit in the back, this had now happened 3 times since the first incident. I am afraid to drive my car now. Also when it shifts into neutral gear, on the dash where it shows the gears the d sign is all scrambled.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle also stalled while the contact was driving in reverse. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic. The mechanic replaced the throttle body but the repair did not remedy the stalling issue. The contact called the dealer and explained the failure. The dealer advised the contact that the transmission range switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 69,108.
My 06 Forenza would not shift into drive and the check engine light would come on then it would get better and the check engine light would turn off. Then I started getting the periodic clunk and scrambled display, usually while in a parking lot or when just starting a trip and driving slow. I finally took it to advance auto and they told me it was the transmission senor. They sent me to the dealer who made me take the car back home because the check engine light had turned back off and they couldn't read the codes. It's still not fixed because when the check engine light comes on it never at the shop. I have reseached online and find that a lot of consumers are having the exact same problem with this car. I think Suzuki should do a recall for this problem because it's not a random problem but seems to be a standard problem.
Trying to shift into gear the car jerks and the display blinks, not indicating what gear the car is in. The only gears that show are d and p. When trying to accelerate the car moves very slowly and doesn't go any faster than 35-40 mph. Diagnostic test show it is the tramsmission range sensor. I see that this is a common problem in this model vehicle and thinks it should be recalled and fixed at the expense of the dealer not the consumer. This car has only had problems from the beginning and the manufacturer needs to realize this and assume some responsibility for their product.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact was waiting for the traffic light to change and when pressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle drove into the intersect at a very lower rate of speed and would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 116,000. Jft.
I purchased a used 2006 Suzuki Forenza in California. Biggest mistake of my life. I have had nothing but problems since I brought the vehicle. Two weeks after my purchase the engine light came on. I was visiting family in las vegas who helped me find a near by dealer. After the diagnostic they advised me the valve cover was sealed improperly. Now I just got the car 2wks prior so I called the used dealer I brought he car from and let them know what was going on. Not to mention the passenger door handle broke off. I see I am not the only one with door handle complaints. The dealer in las vegas fixed the leaking valve cover and replaced one spark plug as oil leaked into it. This was fixed under the warranty. A month later the vehicle started to stall and then accelerate by itself. The engine light came back on so I took it to a Suzuki dealer in van nuys, CA. The service manager advised me after the diagnostic it was the battery. I had the battery replaced and paid a diagnostic fee a total of $275. 00. A few months after that the engine light was back on. While on my way to work the car stopped accelerating almost causing a vehicle to hit me. I took it back to the same dealer in van nuys who advised me the throttle was the issue. They replaced the throttle and the same issue is happening. They now claim it's the main engine wiring harness. I called american Suzuki to see if the "engine wiring harness" is covered under warranty. The power train does not cover the wiring harness. The dealer is asking for $1600. 00 to replace it or $489. 00 to repair the wires. I have only had it for 7mos. The dealer also gave a lengthy list of recommended services totaling $2541. 00. I declined all recommended services and currently do not have a working vehicle. I believe the issues with this vehicle are pre-existing and the dealer I brought it from knew about it. I plan to return this car.
As I was driving, the car all the sudden slipped into neutral and showed a d with a slash through it. I pulled over and tried to put the car in park. The vehicle displayed I was in reverse. When I put it in drive it read neutral. When I started driving again, there was no power, as if I was in neutral. This has continued since. Then, I have almost been hit. Numerous times, once almost hit from the front and the rear when turning on a yielding green light and the car through itself into neutral. Also I have hit the gas in drive and gone backwards. I am very disappointed I have a 3. Year old car with only 52000 miles that is this dangerous for my two year old son and I. I have problems with this car daily.
Tranny slipping, paint peeling on car.
Purchased a 2007 Suzuki Forenza and problem I am having is having to step on brake padel quite a bit and hard just so that I could change gear from park to reverse. How to fix when only less than 2 years to pay off. Cannot afford to start on a new car note. Needing help.
Bought a used 2006 Suzuki Forenza, with about 45000 miles, rans good for 6 months, then all of a sudden I was riding it the car and pulled out into an intersection and the car stalled, and has been stalling ever since, I am scared to drive it anymore, I have not driven it for long distances, in 2 months, I drive it around the block every day, and some days it is fine and others it stalls, I can not trust the car now, but I am still paying on it, I called the dealership and they say it is normal wear, and I will have to get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated the vehicle surged forward while shifting from drive to park. The contact also stated the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who confirmed the failures were possibly caused by the transmission position switch. The manufacturer was contacted, but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 71,000.
Seems to be a common problem with this vehicle and other similar models going back 4 years. Car hit 80000 miles and the trans range sensor went out. Car goes into "limp mode" because the computer thinks there's something wrong with it, when the reality is a bad sensor not an actual mechanical problem. That and the problem is intermittent. Sometimes occurs just as car is started and put in gear, and sometimes not at all. (check engine light goes off and on with each incident or new starting of the vehicle. ) the safety issue is that because it is in limp mode, you cannot accelerate quickly and the car may even roll backwards on hills if you have to stop, as happened to me this morning while taking son to school, had to hold the brake and rev the (automatic!) engine until I felt it pulling to make it up the hill. Can sometime stop and turn the car off, then back on and issue goes away. Having a hard time believing that after 7 years of complaints a recall hasn't already been issued since this is an obvious blatant defect.
The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to hesitate as if it were attempting to stall. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the transmission range switch needed to be replaced. The contact had the dealer replace the transmission range switch four times, but the failure continued to recur. The contact stated that after the second repair, the manufacturer assisted with 100 percent of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.
My 08 Forenza hesitates during cold start up. No codes show. It has 58000 miles (timing belt due in a few thousand), 5 speed stick , driven 90 miles one way every 3 third day. It did die on the highway back in janurary '11 , cel came on, went into limp mode,I didnt shut down for fear of completely dying it was towed to dealer. Pulled codes p2106, p2110, and p0835 from computer. Dealer found nothing wrong other than codes. Since then hesitation has been getting worse. It doesn't seem to idle normally all that well even after driving for several hours (seems like tps is sticking runs around 2000 for about 15 seconds after comming to a stop).
My check engine light came on and was put on machine and got a po700 and po705 which required a sensor which should not have been on a brand new car. From my understanding there have been a lot of problems with this and I don't understand why a recall has not been done on this because my warranty did not cover this do to not being inside the transmission due to Suzuki's rules.
Been having problems with the check engine light being on/of for as long as I have had the car the gears started splipping or staying 3rd, 2nd or r all the time. Took it in to try and have it looked at or check the transmission for fluids since it has a sealed transmission. First thing that came up was - I had no warranty, and prices for them to check to see why the check engine light is on before they can do anything. Now the airbag warning light stays on as well as the check engine light. And the key will not come put of the ignition. Very unsafe. What can a broke unemployed person do?.
Ahhh yes. . . The range sensor going out. My car started doing this in October 2010 and I was told that I need a new sensor too. My car jerks when this acts up and when it is gear, you can see the both the "r" and the "d" on the instrument panel. I took my car to midas and the mechanic (that works on my car) take a look at, he showed me where the sensor is (if you're facing the engine it's the little black round looking thing with a handle and yellow stripe on it). He did something to it and it ran fine for a few days and then did the "jerk" and the engine light came on again. I looked under the hood, and pressed down (as to pushing it back into place) and wiggled it a little before this. When I started my car, it ran perfectly and the light went off. I do this every 3-5 days. It seems to me that the sensor is getting loose and needs to have a new fitting. I'm not spending $253. 00 until I absolutely need it. They do need to recall this because it's very annoying to have to deal with!!.
2007 Suzuki Forenza. Gear shift is sticking. Upon starting car, proceeding to put car in reverse, gear does not move from p. Car has to be turned off, use key to press shift lock, put gear in n, start car, then move to r. Has been happening more frequent. Very annoying. Fearful that it may stick in r or d.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that after shifting into gear, the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally with the illumination of the check engine warning lamp. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
Transmission range switch, fails to shift down during acceleration, may work for a while and then makes a clunk and fails again, causes check engine light to glow and may show a box with a diagonal line through it where the d for drive would be.
When you put the car in drive,it feels like the front end is going to fall. Then when you go, it doesn't shift into gears correctly. We had the part replaced the first time in 2009. Now its doing it again and they won't cover it under warranty. This seems to be a problem with these cars and should be recalled.
Funny how after the service warranty went out on the car so did the transmission. . Took it to the dealership and it cost me to have a switch replaced on the transmission repaired as Suzuki stated that it was not under the warranty. . . . Exactly 6 weeks later the power steering pump went out on the car I took it to the dealership and was advised that the shaft walked out of the pump. . . Imagine that. . . My thinking was does it have a mind of its own to just walk out. I started doing research on the Forenza and to my surprise I found out that the Forenza is not actually a Suzuki, it is daewoo with the Suzuki name. . . Funny how that was never mentioned when I purchased the vehicle, had I known beforehand that I was purchasing a daewoo I would have never purchased the car. To have the power steering pump replaced it is costing me $1000. As I did further research on the car it seems that the ceo of Suzuki is aware that the gm daewoo was such a horrible buy however they are not doing anything to compensate any consumers who purchased the Forenza, they have just decided in 2009 they will no longer make the Forenza. I checked the blue book value for the car that I purchased in 2006 and it is worth 2300, meanwhile I still owe 11000 on the car. In addition the powersteering pump is on back order, the dealership was not able to offer me a loaner because I am outside of warranty and I have no means of getting back and forth to work. As I look through all of the complaints filed on this website I see that there are many people who was/did have the same problems that I did with the transmission, door handles (which I also replaced myself) and the powertrain. I will be filing a class action lawsuit against Suzuki for their failure to advise me beforehand that I was purchasing a daewoo (another piece of !@#$% car).
