The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. While parked, the contact attempted to place the vehicle into reverse but the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the air bag, check engine and the seat belt warning lights were illuminated after the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing who advised that the transmission range sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the vehicle was not included in any recall. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and the current mileage was 50,000.

About once a week my car has an issue when shifting. When I shift into reverse I get a clunk. Then when I drive the car seems to be stuck in a high gear. The check engine light will go on. If I turn the car off and leave it off for 5 to 10 minutes it will be fine when I start it again. The engine light codes are p0700 and p0705. Upon doing research on this subject I found that this is the transmission range sensor that is failing. Suzuki will not fix this under the power train warranty which seems very wrong since this is part of the transmission. I have found a large number of people with the same problem. This is obviously a defective part that Suzuki is doing nothing about.
I thought my vehicle was stalling but the engine was still running and my tachometer was accelerating. It would stop while I was driving and the engine would rev,I tried to move but could not. I drive a busy highway speed limit 65, I had to pull off the road so I would not get hit by a semi. One day pulling out of my community, accelerating at 45mph the vehicle just stopped in the middle of two lanes, another vehicle swerved to avoid a crash. A police officer pulled over, I explained the car just stopped. He saw the symbol flashing on dash, a rectangle with line through it. Went home in 3rd or 2nd gear, that symbol is not in manual. Had a diagnosis and only O2 sensor I was having replaced. I received recall notice from Suzuki . I was scared to drive the car but had no choice, so drove slow in 3rd or 2nd, when d failed again. I had appointment for recall repairs, while at dealership was asked if I had trouble with the shifter going into gear, I said it had been happening, that I tried to get it checked, it didn't show on diagnostic performed earlier and it was dangerous. They said I need a transmission range sensor, they could fix it. I wanted to take it elsewhere, to save but I was scared to death to drive it. They said they have been seeing this in Forenza's. This is dangerous, life threatening issue. There are TSB's issued and have been incidents like mine and nothing has been done. Someone is going to cause a huge accident if they have not already, would anyone even know if a car is burned up or completely wrecked? I did contact american Suzuki to advise them of my problem so they would have it on record. I advised them that before this dangerous situation developed the shifter was getting stuck in park and that I had reported that to the original dealer and was told they could find no problem so nothing was done.

Coming home late night around 2ish, waiting at a redlight my car does a sudden jerk, the check engine light comes on and im in drive (foot on brake pedal) but in the dash the gear starts flashing and indicating I was in neutral but I wasn't. Light turns green I go to press down on the acceleration and my car seemed like it barely wanted to drive, as if it needed a push. I didn't drive my car for the whole weekend because I was paranoid. Took my car in that Monday on October 22nd 2012 (they had it for 8days), got my car back assuming the problem was fixed, but here we are a month later, November 29th 2012 and my car it doing the same. I was driving maybe about 30pmh and I was coming to a stop at a light and my car did a soft jerk and the engine light came on. Went to turn into a parking lot once the light turned green and it seem as though my car didn't want to accelerate. So I turned off the car, waited for 10mins or so, turned it back on and the light was gone and my car was okay. I took my car in to my job, they informed me that it was the same problem, which is the gear sensor/ transmission range sensor. Im taking my car in again on Monday Dec 3rd to be fixed. I have had my car almost 4 years now, I still have a warranty as well and I just hit the 50,000mile mark. Im scared to drive it because I do not want anything to happen to me or other people driving on the road. So I pray the problem is fixed on Monday. I have read many other reviews about the same problem and it blows my mind that so many people have the same problem and nothing has been done. I love my car so it really is a bummer that I am having this type of problem.
While driving the car shuddered and check engine light comes on. I lost almost all power and needed to step hard on accelerator to make car move, especially from a stopped state. This is the same problem I had with this vehicle about 6 months ago. At that time the car was taken to a local mechanic and the engine code returned a problem with the transmission switch sensor. The sensor was replaced and the problem stopped until this recent issue. If I drive the car for a while the check engine light will eventually go out and the car drives fine. But in a day or two the problem occurs again. I need to get the sensor replaced again but it seems there are numerous reports of this same issue out there. I think this should warrant a recall.
I have replaced the transmission range sensor in my 2008 Suzuki Forenza 3 times in the last year. Once at 95,000 miles, another at 101,000 miles, and now again at 109,000. I have attempted to contact Suzuki to no avail. The second time the sensor went out, I was merging on the highway and was nearly hit by a semi truck and trailer because I could not accelerate properly. The 3rd incident was yesterday 10/16/2013, I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a main road, when the sensor decided to slip, it moved the transmission into a high gear, causing me to inch out of where I was at in the middle of the road. Luckily, I was not hit. I would like to see Suzuki acknowledge the fact they need to do something about this issue. It appears to be a very common problem that multiple people are having online.
I bought a used 2006 Forenza sedan and a few days later, the transmission range sensor went out. I just researched and there are several complaints about this issue. Also, the airbag light turned on. Suzuki need to own up to this problem and fix it. Also the 02 sensor went and needs replacement. What is going on.
While sitting at a stop sign, I decided I was a little to far into the road. I shifted into reverse and noticed it shifted really hard. I put it into drive and pulled out onto the road - again it shifted hard. When trying to speed up, the car wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, the check engine light came on and I couldn't speed up. I've been told it is a bad transmission range sensor.
I could really use some assistance. I have a 2007 Forenza and yesterday as I was putting the car into reverse, it made a loud clunking noise. The gear selector display on the dash seemed to go haywire displaying all the letters (d, r, n, etc) with a diagonal line through it. It then went back to normal, then the "check engine" light came on. They hooked up the diagnostic computer and it came up with codes po700 and po705, which varies in wording but seems like it's the transmission range sensor. I have read that many other people have had the same problem. This is a problem that Suzuki should take care of a sensor cost to those who bought their cars.
I was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden my car stales. . Thank god I was close to the right shoulder. I just got the car back from the mechanic and spent 500 to fix the timing belt, new battery, valve, oil change. . I took it to them for this problem in the first place and they couldn't figure it out. I called Suzuki corporate and they said there is nothing they can do. I explained the huge liability if my call just stops in the freeway. . They offer to hold my hand through the process. Suzuki needs a rude awakening. Recall on the transmission range sensor. . I am not sure if that is the problem because no body at the shop could figure it out. But I see on these forums I am not the only one. .
When driving, the Forenza's transmission will not engage into drive. Recently, reverse has also not wanted to fully engage. Research indicates that this is not an uncommon occurrence with Suzuki Forenzas nearing 70k miles. The most common part that is malfunctioning is the transmission range sensor.
One day, when I put my car in reverse, it "clunked" into gear, the gear display was scrambled, and the check engine light came on. I shut my car off and started it again, thinking it was a fluke. The check engine light remained on and it also "clunked" into drive. When I went to accelerate, the rpm's were 5-10 higher than normal and it took a little longer to "get up and go. " sometimes, my car will initially run fine until a few minutes into the drive, when it falls into neutral while driving, then goes back to drive, the check engine light comes on again, and the problems resurface. I took it to advanced auto parts and the machine said transmission control system but they said that could mean anything and would be fine to drive. After taken off the machine, the check engine light went off, only to come on again the next time I drove it. My brother (who has mechanical experience) cleaned the transmission sensor and filter, hoping it would help, but it didn't. As I go to a small town college three hours away from home and make a 3 minute drive to and from classes everyday, I let it be for the semester, insisting that it would eventually go away. Well, it's christmas and it never went away; each day I drive my car it presents me with the same problems. My brother took my car back to advanced auto parts and the machine read the same issues as before, plus a possible wire short. They didn't suggest any fixes so he checked for shorts in the wires and found none. It appears it must be the transmission range sensor. After reading up on the trs, it seems that this is an ongoing problem that many owners are experiencing as early as 30k miles on cars some bought new. I feel as though this issue has also caused other problems with my car (reduced gas mileage/battery failure) and is cause for a factory recall, as its appearance is widespread and the effects are numerous.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while in reverse, she noticed a loud clunking noise. The check engine light illuminated and while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would slip into different gears independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the transmission range sensor would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred three times. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I am thinking our transmission range sensor went out on our 2008 Suzuki Forenza with over 70,000 miles. Car check engine light was on for a few days, then turned off about 3 days ago, stopped at drug store, when I turned on the car, the check engine light was back on, put car in reverse and clunk, while the display where the r for reverse would have been was scrambled, car still reversed. Clunked into drive, and wouldn't switch out of 1st gear.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that while accelerating from a four way stop, the vehicle down shifted on its own and then shifted into neutral. The contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission ring sensor would need to be replaced. This was the second time the sensor was needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 98,000.
After backing out of my driveway, I put my car into drive and felt a sudden jolt and the check engine light came on. I could not accelerate and barely reached 20 mph on a busy road. The check engine light remained on until I arrived at the dealership. When I turned my car off, the check engine light obviously went off, however it did not come back on when the mechanic turned the car on, neither did the car jolt when changing gears. I was notified that my "transmission range sensor" had internal failure and would need to be replaced. Although I have a 100,000 mile warranty on power train, this apparently is not covered because it is not an internal transmission problem. My issue is that it is a problem dealing with the transmission however it is not covered under warranty?.
When changing gear out of park, receive a message on the dash showing it's not reading the gear and losing extreme amount of power. Diagnosis was transmission range sensor. This is the second time this part has gone out. Further investigation has shown this to be a popular problem.
I have had two transmission range sensors put in my car and now it needs a third one. The last one the mechanic stated something is "burning up the sensor. " I also have issues with getting the key out of the ignition. My car now has 102,000 miles and I have had nothing but problems with it from day one. It seems there are a lot of transmission range sensor issues that people are having. The problem is this is a recurring issue. Like I said this is my third one. This should be a recall from Suzuki and they need to figure out what is causing these sensors to keep going out.
For approximately year prior to the incident date indicated on this form, 06/05/2012, my vehicle has malfunctioned sporadically in the way(s) I am about to describe. Since 6/05/2012, the malfunction has occurred and worsened every time I drive. Upon the initial gear shift from "park" to "reverse," my Suzuki Forenza jerks. After the shift, the dashboard displays a "p," despite being in reverse. When I shift to drive, I feel a jerk, and my dashboard displays a multitude of things; at times it remains a "p," and at other times it shows "n" for neutral, "r" for reverse, a simple "d," or a flashing "d" with a diagonal line through it. As I press the gas to accelerate, my rpm's increase, the engine revs, but my car does not move forward for a period of anywhere from 10 seconds to a full minute. The vehicle then jerks and shoots forward very quickly, which is greatly hazardous and alarming. Once my vehicle is in motion on the road, a separate but seemingly related incident occurs at various speeds- I can be on a neighborhood street or the interstate. All of a sudden, it feels as if my car is shifting itself into neutral and is still moving due to momentum. Although I immediately remove my foot from the gas pedal, my rpm's shoot up into the 6/7 range, the engine sounds as if it is going to explode, and the vehicle jerks. At this time, the dashboard displays a number of different shifts, alternating from the flashing "d," to, "p," and so on. I have researched this issue and found that hundreds of other Suzuki Forenza owners have experienced the same malfunction, due to the transmission sensor. It may be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix, but that doesn't lesson the severity. This vehicle has had 4 other safety recalls thus far, and I am enraged that it is has not been recalled entirely due to this widespread and extremely dangerous malfunction.
Car accelerates very slowly. It will stall out if the gas pedal is floored. The check engine light will blink until the car is turned off. The check engine light will stay on for sometimes a few days at a time and then turn off. Others have complained about the transmission range sensor going up many times.

The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact was driving 45 mph when the vehicle began to jerk and the gear shifted into neutral erroneously. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the transmission range sensor failed and would need replacing. The contact spoke to the manufacturer because the vehicle was under warranty, but the manufacturer would not include the cost of the repair under the warranty. The failure and the current mileage was 97,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that after stopping, the vehicle would hesitate and hinder the contact from shifting into any gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who inspected the vehicle and advised that the transmission range sensor failed. The manufacturer was notified who stated there were no recalls for the failure. The vehicle was repaired under warranty. The failure mileage was 62,000.
Multiple times the transmission thuds when shifting from park to reverse. Dash display does not show "r" but has an "x" through it. Turn car off and on about three times to try to get it to work properly. Eventually works ok for a while. Has happened multiple times. Car is sluggish to drive after this happens and engine revs too high. Check engine light comes on but goes off in a few days. Transmission range sensor is bad.
When shifting from park to reverse, the transmision thumps and the check engine light comes on. Car will only drive sluggishly. Goes away eventually, but has happened 3 times. Looking on internet, it appears to be transmission range sensor. Also, the brake shift interlock failed, and could not get the car out of park. Used the over-ride hole to get car out of park.
On numerous occasions the transmission would slip gears, the vehicle jumps and the check engine light goes on. An independent mechanic told me it was the transmission range sensor that was defective and needed to be replaced. This is a seriously dangerous issue because it happens mid drive. Apparently its my transmission range sensor and it has happened to a lot of people. I have done research on this issue with this particular vehicle and have found that this issue is very wide spread. I feel that no matter how well the maintenance on this vehicle is kept up, this issue is destined to become a problem and a safety issue. Because this sensor glitch causes the vehicle to suddenly switch gears and slowdown without warning or brake lights, there is a high possibility for accidents. I believe there should be a recall for this to be fixed. Suzuki motor corp is grossly negligent for naot making a voluntary recall on this inherently defective part. It is the duty and responsibility of ntsb to compell the manufacturer to issue a recall on these 2006 Forenza vehicles.
I just had this part replaced in January 2012 now 2 months later check engine light going on in the middle of driving. Went to autozone and guess what transmission range sensor again!!!!! I bought part from dealer in January and had my licensed auto mechanic put it in, now car doing exactly same thing it did in January car jerking into reverse , scrambled gear letters on dash board, this part is defective what do I have to do replace it every 2 months!!!! make it a recall already , I am not the only complaint!!!!.
My transmission range sensor is malfunctioning. Prior to find out that this was actually the issue I internet search numerous complaints that this part is a failing part on my type of car (2007 Suzuki Forenza) and it has been reported. The dealer advised that because it wasn't on the recall list the part wasn't covered(I bought part from dealer and had different mechanic do the repairs). My frustration is that complaints have been received by Suzuki for this issue but it hasn't been placed on the recall list. What merits what goes on a recall list?.
I have been reading about these 2007 Suzukis. The transmission range sensors is going out on my vehicle also. The mechanic also stated the throttle body was bad. Now I just had 1600. 00 worth of work to this vehicle, timing belt changed, new tires, oil changed etc. Suzuki needs to step up to the plate and recall these lemons!! the mechanic stated the throttle body was major but said he wasn't sure if it was covered under powertrain warranty. If Suzuki cannot guarantee their cars for less than 100'000 miles than I'll never buy another Suzuki! think I'll paint my canary yellow!!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. The failure was recurring and the vehicle had been taken to the dealer numerous times. The dealer replaced the transmission range sensor each time but the failure would recur shortly after the replacement. The transmission range sensor had been replaced a total of six times. The dealer advised that the repairs were performed based on the electronic failure codes provided by the diagnostic machine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the most recent failure. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. . . Updated 05/10/13 updated 06/11/2013.
The contact owns a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the transmission sensor switch failed. The failure caused the vehicle to jerk violently when shifted into reverse and back into drive. In addition, the vehicle was non-responsive to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was repaired. The current mileage was 60,000 and the failure mileage was not available.
My car has been properly maintained and has a little over 65,000 miles and the transmissions range sensor circuit has started malfunctioning.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the transmission warning light illuminated and caused the gears to engage with force. As a result, the engine overheated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the transmission range sensor however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 145,000. Kmj.
My check engine light came on after I placed the car in reverse, it gave a big "thunk" sound. I turned the car off and restarted it. The check engine light is still on. When I went to the dealership to get a diagnosis and they said it was a transmission range sensor gone bad! $250 to replace. As you can see that there are a lot of customer complaints on the same issue but no recall. I have already had the brake light sensor replaced earlier this year and a power steering pump! not liking Suzuki right now!.
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact was driving 25 mph uphill when vehicle failed to accelerate despite the accelerator pedal being depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, where it was advised that the transmission range sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred after the repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
