I received an “important safety recall” letter from Tesla, dated July 14, 2021. This is to replace the embedded multimediacard (emmc) in the media control unit. The instructions were to set up an appointment with Tesla to replace the vcm daughter board with on containing an enhanced emmc. Yesterday, upon receiving the letter, I created an appointment for this Friday per Tesla’s instructions. I received confirmation of the appointment. Today I received a message from Tesla: “for this recall, unless you are currently experiencing issues with this touchscreen that we are able to verify, we will not be replacing it at this time. Please let us know if you have any other concerns, otherwise we will close this work order. ” I wrote back asking for them not to cancel my appointment. I have had the main screen “blank out” with no controls. This also turns off my air conditioner, rear camera, and other controls. This screen has gone out three times over the past year. I’m concerned that they are not going to fulfill their obligation for me and others who have these cars and are experiencing the same problem. I have asked Tesla to remedy the situation and have not heard back.

While backing out of the driveway I heard a loud crack and grinding noise when turning the wheel to pull out into the street. Upon stopping a checking where the noise was coming I found that the left lower fore link completely sheared/ cracked off and the wheel was up against the back of the wheel well. ** area where the wheel was backed up against (completely tore the liner) has the cooling tubing (now leaking) & a high voltage wireline. This could've resulted in serious issues if we were traveling at higher speeds. Tesla has failed to reach out and call back regarding the issue and the vehicle is rendered completely useless/ undrivable. I've owned many vehicles and this is most certainly not normal ware and tare! this is a big safety issue and needs to be addressed ASAP. Thank god my family wasn't on the highway or any road above 5mph when this happened. The damage would've been catastrophic.

Tesla Model S door handles are futuristic in design yet they have a major propensity to break on all versions earlier than the v3. 0 door handles. My 2015 Tesla Model S have v2. 0 and my driver side door handle now fails to extend out to let me into a car. I imagine this is a safety concern if I was in an accident and unconscious and a battery fire were to erupt someone outside my vehicle would have no way to open the door to pull me out. . Vehicle has been given to Tesla for battery and motor work to be carried out. They have now stated that they will have to update the software to 2019. 16. 1/ 2019. 16. 2 or newer , they have also advised that this may affect the range and charge rate of the vehicle. I believe these software updates relate to a hardware fault and should be investigated as it is setting precedence for other manufacturers to potentially send software updates to their vehicles without reporting the fault, imagine if a certain manufacturer had the option of sending an ota software update to prevent the investigation into an emissions scandal.

Door handles that present themselves when you approach vehicle consistently break and prevent the ability to open the vehicle from the outside. This also results in inability to open the door completely when child lock is in place. Although broken door handles can happen these break every year or two. It's a real safety issue for when you have kids strapped to car seats in the even of an emergency. Please intervene before they move to touch less door handles, functioning outdoor and indoor handles are really important in the event of an emergency such as fire after and accident. First time handle broke was around 30k miles then again another around 50k.

Emmc failed prior to recall and was replaced by 3rd party vendor. Recall reimbursement was denied. Emailed Tesla multiple times without response.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

The mcu on my vehicle has failed four separate times while I was driving, causing loss of air conditioning, navigation, rear view mirror and other safety features. It was scary each time it happened and I feared that I would lose control of the vehicle.

I installed the recent software update this morning. Part of the software update is a "driver visualization improvement" which changes the layout of indicators in the screen of the dashboard. While previously the cruise control speed and the autosteering indicators were on either side of the speedometer and set at the outer edge of the dashboard's "center display zone", they are now both clustered to the left side of the speedometer. When driving, this puts the cruise control speed indicator too close to the speedometer and I cannot differentiate them in my peripheral vision. I now have to take my eyes off the road for upwards of a full second to to parse the information given by the two indicators. This, as I am sure you are aware, is unsafe. I have contacted Tesla with my concerns and am told they can do nothing to revert the update. Please inquire as to why such a change was made, what human engineering factors and studies lead to this arrangement, and what can be done to fix the unsafe condition it creates.

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

My media control unit (mcu) is constantly crashing or failing to boot resulting in me not being able to control the hvac, adjust any options including turning on/off lights or safety controls, and failure of the back up camera. This will happen either on boot up of the car or while driving. This has been ongoing since at least March 2018 with Tesla constantly saying it's a software/firmware issue and that I need to update with the update never solving the problem. As late as February 2020 Tesla did a total "factory reset. Which will erase the entire mcu and all it's contents. " this did not do anything to solve any of the problems but it did allow them to install updates that severely limited my charging speeds citing concerns about the battery, but did continued on to say that nothing is wrong with my battery. If there's nothing wrong then why did they need to limit the charging speeds 50%? as far as the mcu this problems has happened in all situations whether driving on the highway, city streets, at a stop light or any where. Today, 12/30 Tesla told me that my emmc has failed and that is why my mcu was glitching but since I'm past 100k miles they will not cover it under their extend warranty explicitly covering this failure. They also claim this glitch today at 114k miles is not related to any other glitching I've made claims about in the past before I hit 100k miles so they won't cover under that either but they cite proprietary information and confidentiality when I ask for the reports/logs of these failures and the diagnostics. Tesla then stated even if they wanted to cover it I don't have the most up todate firmware so I've voided my warranty and they wont cover it. This is after Tesla offered to backdate my firmware to an earlier version in an attempt to solve my issues. So they will backdate it but then that will void my warranty?.

Tesla upgraded the infotainment system on my car and as a result the screen's view of the backup camera is now extremely dark when used at night. My wife narrowly avoided hitting a tree the first night. The upgraded system's backup camera is almost useless now and a real safety hazard as one can no-longer see the road or any obstacles when reversing at night. Previously, it was a very well performing system. Tesla has not firm timeline to rectify this issue.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2020

The main control unit central screen froze and I could not get the car to function for about 7-8 mins. During this time, all major functions of climate control, rear view camera, and the car itself was non-functional. Even when the car functions, there are many times when the computer starts to go slow. Sometimes causing the touch screen to get unresponsive during driving the car. And a few times, the touch screen has even gone dark and non-functional while driving the car. History before this latest incident: note that this has happened many times in the past 1. 5 years. I took the car several times to the Tesla service shop and they used to just tell me to reboot the computer and they managed to reset the computer a couple of times while in warranty. Finally at one point after the warranty expired, the computer completely died earlier this year and Tesla service advised that I need to get the computer mcu replaced at my own expense of about $1200. I did that. Now after about 6 months of the new replaced mcu, the problem has started happening again, just like it happened about 1. 5 years ago. Computer slowing down and now two times, freezing up. I am frustrated at how easily this computer keeps getting into problems and causes potentially safety issues when the computer may go dark while driving or trying to back out of the garage or parking lot without visibility from the rear view camera when it happens. And I'm afraid that this new computer mcu may be on its way again for completely dying a second time in the same year. I am attaching the photo of the state of the car from today's incident (1:15pm 11/16/2020 pacific time). I hope you would investigate this closely since in the past Tesla has been telling me that this is normal wear and tear and I can't accept that this kind of thing is anywhere close to normal behavior for a critical part of the car.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2020

Center touch screen and instrument cluster both went blank on three occasions. Car would still drive but all other functions were disabled for varying degrees of time. Most recently it took overnight for the instrument cluster to fully return. I am aware that this model has the older chip which can cause this problem. Tesla notified me that they would replace it and I took the car in for service today 11/17/20. Received some pushback from Tesla but it is scheduled to be fixed by 11/23.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

There are two issues with the car and found other owners have seeing the same issue 1. The large screen goes blank and dark and is unusable and takes a while to start up the other functions can't be used 2) the door handle stopped going in and out and had to be replaced this is a known issue on line with the wiring being frayed and broken and the cogs also wear out this has been reported on line with other Model S owners the technician who came to replace the ok'd one stated that this is an upgrade and not a replacement which I think should be done for all 4 and should be a safety recall since the doors are not opening from the outside and will be difficult to open the door in case of an emergancy.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

Touch screen memory chip failing. Screen has gone blank while driving and no longer will process things that previously worked - perhaps memory capacity is impaired ? rear visibility is marginal when screen can not display rear camera. Screen failure while driving was on an interstate highway.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

Touchscreen failed. Tesla has ordered a replace part. I am not using Tesla until repaired. From down date to repair time-about one month0.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

The touchscreen would become less responsive, the power-up time becomes longer, the screen would freeze and I would have to be rebooted to put in my pin to drive. Can see one of the freeze screen times at https://youtu. Be/z842rtufgd8 I have received an email (uploaded as jpg) but telsa still wont fix my screen problems and this has been going on for at least 8 months now.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

Infotainment system has stopped working, along with important safety features like lighting, blinkers, cruise control, climate.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2020

Mcu unit wont turn on. This unit controls hvac / safety features such as child locks / sunroof / and most importantly turn signals. The car turns on but the screen stays off. I think this has to do with its memory, I had a smiliar issue about 2 months ago where an update caused the car to reboot repeatedly until someone at Tesla installed a remote update and rebooted the car.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2020

Re investigation pe 20-010, mcu has failed and loss of rear view camera display is a result. Reached out to Tesla approximately one month ago as the mcu was beginning to fail. Knew it would take approximately one month to get an appointment/parts. Tesla refused (via email) to replace under warranty until mcu was in complete failure. Unit completely failed on 9/8/2020. Made appointment for replacement; first available appointment was 9/30/2020.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2020

While driving in heavy traffic the car's emmc went dead and took over 10 minutes to reboot. All safety driving features were not functioning during this time. This is the forth time this has happened in the past six months. Tesla sent an email that they had a memory module problem with the car's emmc that caused the same problem I was experiencing, so I made a service appointment. When I took it in I was told my car did not have bad memory modules. They said that it was "normal" for the emmc to reboot from time to time, and as a curtsey they would not charge me a diagnostic fee for looking at it. We exchanged several emails about how this could be considered "normal" especially since it was happening more often, but the offered no resolution to the issue. There really appears to be something wrong with these emmc units and Tesla doesn't know how or doesn't want to fix it. When the unit stops working I do not feel safe driving the car and I don't know when it is going to happen next.

Mec failure on central panel. . . . Console is all black and minimal function on drive display. . . No ac/heat. . . . Cause no horn no display no camera no audio. No ac no turn signals. While driving no controls access to the car. . No center display no airbag and airbag error. . . No app access either and car could not reboot either. . . And strange charging sound in front battery.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

Have an issue with the central touch screen panel going blank. The embedded multi-media-card memory (emmc) in the mcu ins likely the issue. This is causing the central touch screen panel (that controls air bags, navigation, music, heating etc. . ). This screen has been causing a problem for many months. We got a 'temporary fix' by a reset that cost 100s of dollars - but it went blank again. This is a design flaw that has nothing to do with how we drive the car - it has got fixed in the 2018 and later Model S models - but it looks like it is a systematic issue in many cars prior to that.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

Center screen (mcu) went out , lose all safety features because the screen is all black.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

The trunk would not open. I crawled in the back and tried to use the safety release. The handle of the safety release broke, but the trunk would not open. Had someone been trapped in the trunk, they would have have been able to escape.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

Mcu failure, when backing up the rear camera does not turn on, center screen console has gone black and will not reboot despite multiple attempts to do so. Seems like a mcu failure. Car is essentially very hard to drive - hard to back up - rear camera is not functioning, has become a safety problem. Has been intermittent over last few weeks, now permanent.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

When I turned on my car in the garage the touch screen wouldn't light up and the car was dead. I called roadside assistance and the man had me go through a series of resets which finally got the car going enough so I could drive it very carefully to the Tesla service center which is 15 miles away. The car could be operated but there was no screen and the directional signals wouldn't work. They kept the car five days trying to restore the touchscreen and were finally successful. They said they did not replace parts and the cost was $186. 11 the screen has gone dark a few times since but I have been able to get it back with rebooting and waiting. Other complaints I have read about don't mention the fact that the directional signals don't work so I felt I should let you know that additional information.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

While stationary, middle touch panel (mcu) on my 2015 Tesla Model S 85 (~60,000 miles) started freezing up between vehicle controls (lower left 'car' icon) and garbling screen when trying to switch between them, a couple of days ago. I noticed first symptoms about a week ago when percent charged on the middle touch panel didn't update together with the instrument panel while supercharging. Now I have to scroll-wheel-reset my car twice a day: before driving to work (it's frozen in the morning) and again before driving home from work (frozen again in the afternoon). An additional symptom manifested itself today: my rearview camera started getting a nasty 'gray veil' over it so you can't see anything; it seems to keep appearing and disappearing.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

Mcu failed on my car. Blinker sound wouldn't work and thus didn't know if signals were working or not. Ac/defrost wasn't working either. During the winter this would be a serious problem because of fogging. Vehicle was in motion. I pulled over and a restart of the mcu brought it back to life but am concerned that the documented wear-out of the emmc nand flash is causing my mcu to fail prematurely.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Computer will have delayed starting or turn off on its own.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

The driver's display panel which display the speed and other important information about the state of the vehicle is bubbling and making it difficult to read the current speed. This is a common problem with this model according to the owners forum. Even though this is a common safety problem, telsa has not issued a recall for this problem.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

While I was driving my car's (2015 Tesla Model S) emmc (multimediacenter) failed. The chip died and I was unable to use the touchscreen including the climate control. The car still worked but I could not defrost my window and it was hard to see outside. Luckily, there were no cars around me and I was able to make it home. If this failed on a colder day, the defrost feature could be very dangerous. Tesla now wants ~$1500 to replace the issue which USA safety hazard.
