36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2021

Own Tesla Model S for 4 yrs now and for last 3 months I have started noticing that the mcu (touchscreen) doesn't power up and sometimes I have to wait for 5-10 minutes for car to power on. I have reported 4-5 occurrences of this issue to Tesla already but everytime they pushed back citing it is not mcu related. In fact I reported them that this seems to be part of NHTSA recall issue sent out to Tesla asking to replace mcus for 2017/2018 makes but Tesla has not take any action yet. I reported another occurence of it today again and scheduled an appointment with Tesla service on 11th Feb,21. This could potentially be a safety issue if there is an emergency and my car won't power up. Request NHTSA to intervene and get my mcu issue resolved by liasoning with Tesla team as I have tried my best to push Tesla for a fix but unfortunately couldn't get a resolution yet.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2021

Infotainment extremely slow many time it freezes or black out. It has been happening since day, I always take it to the dealer for repair an they says that everything is ok just clogged up due to data. Some electrnic device is not working properly, they don't want to fix it.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

My 2017 Tesla Model S p100d suffers from severe degraded "infotainment" computer. Tesla has said it is not a problem with the emmc (existing ntsb recall) in my case, but instead inadequate processing power for the new software, and they've recommended a $2500 "upgrade". The system randomly goes to blank screens, fails to navigate properly, freezes, and is a major distraction while driving. Tesla has offered no solution to the problems.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2021

The Tesla Model S main screen blacked out, causing me to not have access to any of the car's control system other than to drive it (no backup camera, climate control, music, door locking, suspension adjusting, turn signal chiming, and other essential safety featues). When I took it to Tesla, they identified the problem but told me to fix the root of it, I'd have to pay for an "mcu2 upgrade" of over $1000 even though they know the computer chip is bad (and will go bad again). This happens sometimes while the car is parked and other times when in motion.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

Center console gets black screen occurrences and loss of audio has happened at least 15-20 times. Purchased car from Tesla in mid October. Screen issues since having the car and no audio, Tesla states to patiently await fe update have had the car serviced multiple times for the issue. Several appointments canceled by Tesla stating there is no fix and to perform reset on car which im now doing every 5-10 days. This has happened while vehicle was stationary in park and have had to drive multiple times on the freeway and surface roads with no screen or audio. Has occurred 11-17-20, 11-28-20, 12-8-20, 12-19-20, 1-2-21, 1-8,21,. When black screen occurs no warning chimes or audio present. Tesla refuses to address the he issue despite being aware of it and having been giving exact dates of occupancies pictures of black screen etc.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2021

My vehicle is the subject of recall no. 21v-035 (sb2121001). At the time that I received notice of this recall, about 1 year ago, I had already complained to Tesla about the board malfunctioning for approximately 4-5 months. Each time I contact the mfr, Tesla, about this issue, they continue to claim unavailability of parts for multimedia display board. . Read more...

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

Reoccuring display issues. Blanking out of screen. Images on the display that will not disappear unless re-booted, loss of environmental controls such as fan and ac, occasional loss of all sound (blinkers, media, etc. The vehicle was in motion on occasion and also when initially starting the vehicle. The unsafe condition is loss of access to most of the vehicle controls as the display blacking out makes critical control access problematic. Attached are images below. I have discussed this with Tesla service center. They advised that this is a software error. They do not identify the error or when it will be corrected. I have made several requests with the Tesla service center in austin texas to have this resolved. They indicate that the review of logs based on the dates and times of the incidents do not indicate a hardware malfunction such as the display or emmc chip. Please note I have other files, but could not load them.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2020

Center console screen freeze and goes black filed multiple complaints but didnt get a proper answer from Tesla they suggested to pay 2500 for new mcu 2, its very frustrating as they don't respond to calls, this issue happens very often and all they give me is an excuse.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2020

Touchscreen glitches that led to the loss of several safety-related features including back up camera, sensors, climate control.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

The central screen went blank I took to the dealer they tried to fix it it happened twice the wipers and ac continued to run even when I got out of the car last time it happened at the repair shop the odometer mileage jumped from 21 000 to 58 000 I took the car back to repair shop and they said it is a computer glitch and fixed (?) the problem and mileage was adjusted I am wondering if mileage can be adjusted by the dealer , I think it is illegal. Intermittently the cameras are fogging even when it is not cold. No clear explanation given by the crew at repair place.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2020

Vehicle interior heating system does not work properly. Only blows hot air at "hi" temperature, any other temperature blows cold air. This is effecting the defrosting feature as well. It will take 2-3 minutes to defrost the windshield while moving, making visibility 0, and dangerous to drive.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

The center screen/console crashes and stays off for long periods of time when starting the car and when driving.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

The central computer (large screen in the middle) does not perform well and freezes while driving or sometimes wont let me start. Tesla said nothing wrong with it as on their system doesnt show any software issue and so they will not do anything. I am paying telsa to change this to mcu2. The date does not refer to any specific date this problem occured.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

Recall number 21v035 is not being honored by Tesla service center. I have contact Tesla customer support and they suggested I contact you. Prior to this I had arranged a service appointment based on communication from Tesla about the malfunctioning part. Service center refused to honor Tesla corporate communication to consumer.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

The multi media unit lag & sometime become so unresponsive. It takes forever to reload the maps. I asked Tesla 3 times but they kept saying they dont see the issue at all. They want me to pay $2500 to replace the screen.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2020

While in motion, the large screen goes black and all audio is lost, even the sound the blinker makes. I can not restart it, it just takes time and usually restarts itself. But whenever it restarts itself, audio still does not work. Sometimes it never comes back on during the drive. It appears to be the mcu and emmcu chip. Apparently Tesla knows about this, I have had my car in for service and have asked that the chip be replaced. They have so far refused and keep diagnosing the issue with no resolve. They want me to upgrade to an infotainment system, which they say will fix the issue, but thats $2500.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

Touch screen is completely black multiple times per week. Usually at beginning of trips, but occasionally suddenly occurs in the middle of trips. Black out can last upwards of 10 minutes (per smartphone stop watch). Touchscreen blackout limits access to fog light controls, back up camera, garage controls, passenger airbag status indicator, and all audible warnings including emergency brake alert and turn signal noises. The vehicle is covered under Tesla's new extended warranty. I requested service on 10/17. Was scheduled to bring car in on 11/12 (next available). They said it was done on 11/13 after only completing a diagnostic and a firmware flash. No hardware modifications were completed. Same symptoms reoccurred on 11/23. I contacted them that same day and they gave me an appointment of 12/18. Today (11/24) they contacted me to recommend I cancel the appointment as the issue is (they say) software based and they "found no issues with the hardware" via remote diagnostic. Video link below of a recent 7 minute black out. Https://photos. App. Goo. Gl/3bdbafq7ylvjtxfu7 I have attempted multiple forms of reset/reboot when this occurs with no notable improvements.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

My mcu is continuing to power off while I'm driving and the small screen takes longer to boot up. This also happens when surfing still before I start out of my garage.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

Mcu still failing after having it replaced.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

My 2017 Tesla s 75d has been having issues with the emmc/daughterboard main computer/screen/control panel blanking out, where basically the screen that has the majority of controls goes black for a few hours. On one occasion the steering wheel was affected--it locked up. To temporarily remedy the issue, I have to reboot the software/car, but I have to be parked and stopped for 30 minutes to an hour, to go through this procedure. This is a reoccurring problem that started in 2020 and it seems other issues, have stemmed from this. For example, the system has a delay of 1-2 minutes to start up--at every start up; other sporadic issues such as no sound (as in there are no sounds, music, alarms or otherwise, working, at all); the key fob is delayed in being detected (even after replacing the battery).

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2020

I complain that Tesla failed to remedy the defect of malfunctioning emmc by replacing vcm daughterboard (see the letter received) within a reasonable time frame. Since last November I have received a number of letters from Tesla informing the recall and nothing happened.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2020

The mcu screen goes blank repeatedly. It requires a reboot. When this occurs loss of numerous vehicle functions occurs which creates safety issues. Control of defogging, rear back up camera etc are some of the last safety features. Currently has only occurred in stationary vehicle.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2020

I have reached out to Tesla to fix the problems I've been having with my mcu, multiple times. They always try to come up with some excuse not to replace it with the mcu2. One service tech actually told me that my problems would be solved if I purchased the 'infotainment upgrade' that gives me the new mcu. Another tech told me that the mcu isn't covered under warranty at all. I refuse to pay $2500 for an 'upgrade' to fix my problems, when this should be their responsibility. I have had multiple camera failures resulting in driver aid functionality being reduced or eliminated all together, and the only way to fix it is by recalibrating the cameras. I have had door handles stop working at random times, that end up requiring a full reset of the car to repair. My central screen crashes/reboots at random, whether or not the vehicle is in motion. When that happens, none of the controls on the touchscreen are usable, and some of those are what I consider to be essential controls. For instance, climate/defogging ability is reduced or eliminated. I have been in for service multiple times now, almost all of the appointments were for things controlled by the mcu. They also have told me that my vehicle doesn't qualify for the emmc warranty repair/replacement, because it only covers 'end of life' components. The vehicle is still under the full warranty as well. I have another outstanding service appointment scheduled for December 1st. I have requested a new mcu again, but will not be surprised if they deny me. I have many photographs and screenshots as evidence.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The instrument panel goes dark and inoperable at times when driving. Alerts are noted that vehicle safety warnings are disabled. We’ve tried to remedy with the dealer now on several occasions and we’ve been charged for appointments only to find out that this is a vehicle recall. Despite all these attempts Tesla palm springs dealer keeps saying they will let us know when parts to repair become available. Other rattling repairs in center counsel are delayed pending this recall correction. But we never hear back from the dealer about this correction. It seems excessive on the time waiting to get the component/part to correct this issue. What can be done? it seems like a safety issue to keep driving the car without this correction.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2020

Mcu failure. It is becoming almost a daily issue with the mcu being very slow and occasionally the whole screen goes black with no hvac control and pixelated screen with poor navigation.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Tesla mcu fails intermittently- rendering autopilot and all safety features associated useless. Also causes extreme scare to driver when failure occurs, as they believe car is off/not working. Occurs on numerous occasions, both on startup and while driving.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

Mcu1 failure; requires rebooting several times weekly to start up. Sporadically doesn't charge on schedule or from the app. Need to start the charge from in the car, seat heaters sporadically come on, climate can't be controlled; stays where it is, can't connect to car via app, location of car gets stuck.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2020

Completely black mcu screen that does not turn on even after a reboot. No ac, no warning sounds, and most importantly not being able to use turn signals when the car is both stationary and moving.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2020

The main touchscreen on my Tesla Model S has failed multiple times in the last month. When it fails, I am unable to use backup camera, adjust headlights or climate control, all of which constitute a hazard. I am waiting for Tesla service to diagnose the fault.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

Media control unit (mcu1) having problems, doesn't videos record properly, lot of pixcellation, hangs up abruptly, yellow lines observed.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2020

The mcu1 on my Tesla has has gone completely dark while driving the vehicle. Before going completely black, I lost navigation, blinkers were not operative, entertainment went out, a cryptic message appeared indicating that I needed to charge my car immediately. Before going completely black, all climate functions stopped. This has happened 3 times in the last 7 weeks. Tesla service assured me that nothing was wrong and that a simple reset and clearing some data would solve the problem. I think that this loss of function is a sign of a failing mcu and that Tesla is refusing to acknowledge it. A replacement cost $1,000. . . . . . . . . . And it is replaced with a refurbished unit that is exactly the same as the unit that failed in the first place!.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Computer screen has yellow border. Also, sometimes the back up camera doesn't work, especially if I back up, stop and shift to neutral and back up again. I almost always have to put the shifter into d or r two to four times before it engages coming from neutral. There is a clunking noise when I cross an expansion strip in the road, or a minor bump at over 25-30 mph. Tesla can't find the problem. I am concerned that it may be in the suspension.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

My Tesla was built with mcu v1. 0. It slows down and fails to respond few times. I have to park and then interact with it. Also, hearing that this mcu fails after certain period. Already there are several reports from cars built 2 yrs back (2015 - mine is 2017) that when mcu fails, it does operate alot of items that could pose safety issue. I am concerned that this was installed purposely by Tesla so they can charge to make the upgrade by the fear of the safety issue.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2020

My main screen would completely go black randomly and when that happens my instrument cluster in front of me would also go black and as a result I can't see how fast I'm going or my blind spots or anything really. It's the mcu that continues to have this problem and Tesla won't replace it.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2019

I was attempting to park, the car was traveling at perhaps 2 miles/hour, when the car suddenly accelerated, climbed a burm, hit a tree, and stopped on the other side of the burm in the middle of the street.
