The contact owns a 2015 Tesla Model S. The contact stated while driving 40 mph at night, one of the headlights became inoperable. The contact stated that both headlights had become intermittently inoperable, causing the contact to hesitate to drive the vehicle due to safety concerns. Upon investigating the issue online, the contact learned that several other vehicle owners were experiencing similar failures. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The mcu touchscreen fails constantly causing no access to rear view camera, ac controls, navigation, and loss of preset settings for mirrors and drive seat position. Reboot takes over 5 mins while car is in operation to no ac working. Both headlights have been replaced over 10 times due to burned out daytime running lights. I have paid for the last replacement only for it to fail again.

The main/center screen blacks out on my Tesla, which is where all the car controls and back-up camera is viewed. Even when it doesn't completely black out, the back up camera doesn't function as it just stays frozen a lot of the time. Outside of the backup camera issues, all other functions, like turning on or off headlights is also impacted. At other times it seems like it impacts charging the car, which can leave me dead if I cannot charge. Other functions have also been impacted like turning air conditioning and navigation, however not necessarily safety issues. These issues have happened while sitting in my garage trying to leave, charging my car at a Tesla charging station, driving down the freeway or streets. I estimate they have been happening since about 60k miles and have progressively gotten worse.

VIN: [xxx] while driving air suspension has wildly activated. Unable to manually turn headlights on at night. Entertainment system has, uncommandedly, activated on full volume and unable to reduce/mute. Bluetooth link disconnected from phone eliminating handsfree ability mid-call. Mcu (media control unit)/mainscreen has rebooted on its own, with high outside heat, phoenix, arizona< shutting off cabin cooling for as long as 5 minutes. These are primary safety concerns and major distractions. Additionally, there is frequent loss of gps/navigation position, false aural warnings and sometimes a completely unresponsive mcu that a reset sometimes/temporarily clears. This has happened since the summer through now both locally within the phoenix, arizona area, parts of northern arizona, nevada and California at different times, elevations, climates and time of day. I have video that I can share with you if needed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The center screen (infotainment center) went blank on me and I could not control main features. I couldn't control my sunroof which was left open to vent. I couldn't use my rear view camera. All sensors were not working. The air conditioning and heater was my working and I could not control them. Defroster and radio were not working as well. I could not control the headlights and certain driving modes.
My car's mcu (media control unit touchscreen) is near death and 900 miles from being out of warranty. The screen went black on me for an entire day before coming back and constantly freezes and needs reboots. During this time, I lost ability to turn on and off the headlights, must rely on auto. Lost ability to control the hvac and defrost. Lost ability to adjust air suspension. Lost ability to use backup camera.
Drl burn out repeatedly. This is a common issue for 2016-2020 Model S headlights. Headlights need to be replaced for the second time in just 50k miles.
Mcu main computer failed, prevented me from using defrost couldn't see while driving almost caused an accident as my entire front window view got block. The mcu allows you to use the screen which lets you turn on defrost. Very dangerous situation. This also controls your headlights.
There is a flaw in the Tesla emmc which will inevitably cause a critical portion of the chip to fail prematurely, due to constant excessive logging within the touchscreen system. Ultimately the memory chip fails and the touchscreen goes black, placing the car in limp home mode, the parking sensors and rear view camera no longer work, it will not charge and effectively becomes un-drivable when the battery runs out. The emmc is a linchpin component for the functionality of the car. The emmc, though it does not control the car's propulsion, braking or steering, is the heart of the touchscreen which is used to turn on headlights, adjust hvac and all car settings run through the touchscreen. The hvac unit now has a "dog mode" which keeps the cabin cool for dogs or occupants waiting in car. The failure of the touchscreen unit while in dog mode could result in heat-related fatality, should an owner. The contact owns a 2014 Tesla Model S. The contact stated that one of the headlights would not function without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently and, at times, both headlights would not illuminate. The contact took the vehicle to Tesla (470 lancaster Ave, devon, PA 19333, 610-407-7030) and was informed that there was a prior complaint related to the same failure; however, the only solution would be to replace both headlights. The contact was provided an estimate for the cost to replace both headlights. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

In September of 2018 I noticed one of the daytime running lights started to go out. I took the car to Tesla and they replaced the headlight. Shortly after the other side did the same thing. Again they replaced the headlight. Then in June of 2019 one of the daytime running lights went out again. It was replaced again. Now I am out of warranty and both daytime running lights are going out again. There is some defect that causes them to burn out. I felt it was a safety issue because the daytime running lights are supposed to decrease accidents.
