Ball Joint problems of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Eight problems related to ball joint have been reported for the 2016 Tesla Model X. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

Tesla Model X front left fore link failed while braking at an intersection on city streets 1/2 mile from home. Accident occurred at 5 mph or less. Vehicle was driven back to home. Any application of the brake caused lf wheel to move rearward and contact rear of wheel well. Liner was ripped off, retrieved off the ground, and placed in trunk of car. Tire rubbed against wheel arch liner (wheel liner) ripping it off and destroying it. Electrical lines behind liner had insulation damaged. Hydraulic lines behind liner were loosened. Disc brake dust shield was damaged. Vehicle was towed to a Tesla repair facility. While there were scratches on the leading edge of the fore link, indicating contact with an object, driver has no recollection of this event and if it occurred, it had to months (or years) before the failure at the knuckle ball joint ring. Part was replaced at owner's expense. Damaged part was requested but not provided for inspection. Tesla took photos of the link prior to replacement (attached). This entry should be filed with NHTSA investigation pe 20-020.

Here is another example of a Tesla with a popped ball-joint. Https://poctra. Com/2016-Tesla-model-x/id-ai6j3yjqme16nyxj/ebensburg-PA/photos the ball joint attaches to a flimsy pressed steel upper wishbone. That wishbone is not even bent out of shape so therefore the ball-joint can not have had any great force placed upon it. It is almost certain that it was this popped ball joint that caused this major crash. I'll say it again. Bad ball joints. Bad bad elon please recall these deathtraps. Thank you keef.

6 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Here is a Model X in the junkyard. It does not appear to have been in a collision, air-bags have not deployed and there is very little damage to any of the body panels. The suspension has collapsed. The front rh suspension has totally fallen apart. The top ball joint has popped apart. This ball joint is much too flimsy for a car of this weight and performance. This car is less than a year old so the failure can not be blamed on poor maintenance or excessive mileage. Please investigate the reason why so many low mileage near new Teslas are having suspension failures. Thank you. Concerned citizen.

7 Ball Joint problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2017

Urgent. Here is a Tesla owner that has just posted a complaint about a snapped ball-joint on his near new Model X: https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/ball-joint-separation. 101036/ snip**texlasx, 6 minutes ago new my wife was driving our 2016 Model X today when she heard a snap. Her steering wheel pulled and she struggled to control the car at about 40mph. She was able to stop in three lanes of traffic but was pretty shook up. She contacted Tesla and they towed the car to a service center. They informed her that one of the links fractured causing the ball joint to separate. We have the fractured link (police found it in the street). The car only has about 10,000 miles on it, so seems unlikely to be a wear-and-tear issue. Has anyone experienced this failure on their car?** the photograph is attached. These failures are occurring over and over. The alloy parts are too weak for the purpose. Cast alloy is not a good material to use. The eye-hole walls are too thin and the cast alloy is too brittle. I cannot understand why NHTSA has not taken action over these lethal defects. Please do not delay any longer. These cars should be recalled for inspection and remedy of these defects. Concerned citizen.
