1 Software problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/24/2021

This vehicle has had a number of issues. One after another. Vast majority are infotainment and software issues. Just recently while traveling at a highway rate of speed, the software froze and the instrument panel was frozen. I had no idea as I thought everything was working. And of course I was using auto pilot and full self driving feature. I darn nearly hit the concrete divider as the function was not working but the dashboard/instrument panel was leading me to believe that it was!!!! this is super dangerous. The car has been in the shop countless times. I now text the service manager on his cell phone and have gotten to know him a little too well. They have tried fixing it but he admits that they don't have a fix for the issue. The infotainment system was also replaced a few months ago, with no results in solving the problem. My car re boots interleaf all the time while driving making it highly unsafe with it's self driving and auto pilot feature. Today the service manager called me to tell me that Tesla can not fix the car and is willing to buy it back at a reduced price of $91,000! what? no. . You either fix the car which is still under warranty or give me all of my money back including sales tax, which was $115,0000. I've owned this problem riddled car for less than 2 years and it can't be fixed. . Not my fault. This is on top of the vibration issue that they are also aware of and don't have fix for. And many other issues. . . . . . I have several pictures and videos of many incidents. This needs to be looked into ASAP as I believe this is an issue with many of the Tesla Model X cars as well as possibly model s. The software/hardware glitch will kill people guaranteed. The incident below is one of many.

2 Software problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/19/2021

I am the owner of a 201x Tesla Model X. The "center screen" in this car is central to the use of many safety functions of the car, such as the reverse camera, headlight controls, defroster controls, and turn signal chimes. The screen in my car has become highly unreliable, often locking up, rebooting, or failing to respond, causing the aforementioned functions to be unavailable. It is my observation that these functions worked well in the past when the vehicle was originally delivered, but have degraded over time as Tesla has pushed software updates to my car. I have discussed this issue with Tesla and am aware of the proposed NHTSA recall of the center screens due to a emmc flash wear out issue. Tesla has assured me that this is not the issue with my car, and has requested that I wait for future software updates to resolve these issues. However, it is my observation that software updates have continuously made this situation worse, and Tesla has offered no specific date on which this will be resolved. This is unacceptable for safety functions of a vehicle. I request that you investigate the scale of Tesla "mcu1" center screen issues beyond the emmc flash issue and work with Tesla to make sure this is resolved quickly for the 150,000 owners of these vehicles.

3 Software problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/10/2021

I am experiencing issues with my mcu unit similar to what has been documented in odi engineering analysis ea20-003. I have observed the vehicle electronics and touchscreen fail 4 times in the last few months while driving. In the winter months in mn, this is extremely dangerous as it causes the hvac systems to turn off. The windows start to fog up and create a safety hazard. I have tried to report this issue to Tesla, but they keep responding by saying they aren't able to detect any faults from the car, but also say that a future software update is expected to resolve the issue. I don't see how they can claim this will be resolved by a software update when they don't seem to understand the flaw causing this issue in the first place.

4 Software problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/31/2020

1. Tesla provides owners manual in infotainment system to scroll. It is not opening at all, they are saying my combination of hardware(hw) and software(sw) is the reason and they have observed same issue in other cars too. Since oct 2020 fix for this issue has not come and they are saying a future sw upgade will fix this, but within a year my car warranty will be over. - I have attached Tesla response, where they agreed they have 3 cars at NJ location which have same hw configuration as mine, and all with my latest sw 2020. 48. 12. This is only 1 location, they have 466 service centers the problem is not sw but it is because of poor mcu hw. 2. Car taking longer to boot up when placing foot on brake pedal even when energy savings is disabled 3. Large center console screen takes even longer to turn on. 4. While driving car center screen will suddenly blank out.

5 Software problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/09/2020

Touchscreen failure in either complete black screen or unresponsive during driving. In additional, partial function loss of the instruction panels in the mean time. This is happening once every few months that force me have to stopped on the road to reboot/deep rest the system. When its failed I loss view of rear camera, cannot operate hvac (defogging) light, and loss of the parking assistant support. Furthermore I suspect this defects also renders my internal web browser unusable and covertly losing of navigation voice prompt. I aware the cause of this issue from NHTSA investigation ea-20-003. However, when contact Tesla for this issue they simply refuse to fix the defects emmc citing I have to provide specific date and time of failure, which is unreasonable unless the driver is already aware the detail of this defects and taking specific note for the occurrence. However, I luckily made a note for the occurrence at the time, but Tesla still refuse to replace the defects unit citing they loss the log of my incident. Then, they pushed a software upgrade simply defer the problem from happening. Furthermore, in this pandemic situation, many people are trying to avoid of going out as much as possible. My point is their defects already cause materialized damage to the emmc, which has a fixed lifespan for the cycle of writes. It should be required a recall for these defects device will failed sooner or later.

6 Software problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

My touchscreen went black and systems became disabled (air control, autopilot, music, navigation). Within a week the readings on my phone app were not correct and it took some time for the power to engage the gears. My backup camera went dark. Finally, I could not put my car in gear and it had to be towed by a specialty towing service. Tesla tells me it is a software issue, but I think a memory chip has gone bad. I think this relates to an existing investigation on this issue by NHTSA.

8 Software problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

Driver distraction issue when I bought the Tesla Model X, basic voice commands were available -- e. G. , to call using a smartphone, linked to the car via bluetooth. The operation, as new, was straightforward, and matched the then-current manual, available in 2018. As is known, Tesla updates its car software, &, in fact, makes it mandatory that the car's sw be updated, or risk voiding the warranty. Normally, the new sw updates improve the operation of the car. However, starting in December 2019, the sw updates, & each Tesla 'owners manual' that corresponds, fell out of sync. The manual would describe functionality, and the actual software, simply did not have the functionality. I've read each of the updated "model x owners manual north America", (January 2020 & October 2020), downloaded from the Tesla website. In each case, the car fails to conform to the operational details explained at, e. G. , the October 2020 (2020. 44) manual, page 53. On that page, Tesla explains, twice, that a way to activate a voice command, is to 1. Press the voice button; 2. State the voice command, e. G. , "call john doe" 3. Press the voice command. Twice, on the same page 53, Tesla wrongly instructs the driver to 'tap the voice button again' or 'press again'. In hundreds attempts to make the Model X to respond to 'bookend' presses of the voice button, it has failed to operate in the manner described in the manual, since December 2019. However, the car does respond to the following sequence of inputs, which the manual also describes: 1. Press the voice button; 2. State the voice command, e. G. , "call john doe" 3. Wait, up to 5 seconds . . . Continued in attachement.

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for a software update however, the failure returned a month after the update was performed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000. The VIN was not available.

10 Software problem of the 2019 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

Two major issues. On June 23, after a software update, I left to run some errands. I got a message that the update didn't install properly, but given that the functions of the update didn't seem critical, I decided to wait to try and reinstall. I was at a stop light in the center lane on wisconsin avenue in DC (a very busy street), when I went to go as the light turned green, my entire screen went black and I could not start the car. My hazard lights wouldn't even go on. Thankfully, I could roll down my window and wave cars to go by. I thank god that my children weren't with me, as I could have easily been in a catastrophic accident in a very busy intersection. After a couple of minutes of great distress, the car started again, but my navigation, auto drive, etc. Were not working. I called Tesla and they resent the update and it installed fine, but took about two hours and three tries??? this was a nightmare. My purse was in the backseat with my phone and I was so busy waving cars around me I couldn't get to it. And no power = no Tesla emergency assistance. How do you get help? this was terrifying. My second issue is that my lte rarely works. I've scheduled service, but they can't accommodate for another two weeks. That often leaves me with no navigation, no satellite radio, etc. , etc. My app now shows my car is charging in maryland. . . When it's in a parking garage in DC. Again, not helpful. Having this experience and the failing lte, I am 100% convinced that you need to have carplay, where at least you have a back up for navigation and voice to text ability. It isn't safer to only have lte if it doesn't work. Mine went out this morning during my commute and never came back. I even tried using my phone hotspot for wifi and that didn't work either. How are you going to offer netflix and voice text if the lte and wifi don't work? how is that safer?.

11 Software problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

This is a complaint about the Tesla autopilot. Here is a credible and easily verified report by a Tesla owner in uk who has had a near death experience while on autopilot: https://teslamotorsclub. Com/tmc/threads/at-what-point-do-I-say-enough-is-enough. 100508/ ** a few weeks ago, the car whilst in auto pilot suddenly swerved across the motorway into the middle lane. I caught it half way across. The motorway was perfect. (interestingly at a supercharger, I asked the guy next to me if this had ever happened to him, and he said 'funnily enough, it had and just that very day for the first time' (that's not a coincidence surely) this was the final straw so I sent it off. Sat nav, auto pilot, wont lock, returning to car with door open, doesn't present doors some of the time, doors don't close some of the time, screen goes black, etc etc etc. It acts with the consistency of a small child, yet its supposed to be software driven. The autopilot issue is my biggest concern. The guy I spoke to who said his had done the same that day, said his drove towards a lorry. I thought it wasn't supposed to do that as it has sensors? it was very windy that day so I wonder if that was anything to do with it, either way Tesla were so concerned about it, they didn't even bother to take the details of this guy when I raised this issue to them. ** even if the owner has his hands lightly on the wheel the power steering has sufficient power to wrench it out of his hands. This autopilot is half-baked and glitchy and the constant software tweaks are making it even more dangerous. No other car-maker would be allowed to conduct such a reckless experiment. Please take action before more lives are lost. Thank you. Concerned citizen etc.
