36 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/26/2024

At 9:37 a. M. On January 26, I was driving on freeway 60. The three cars in front of me braked suddenly. I stepped on the brake quickly, but after I stepped on the brake for 3 seconds, the speed of the car still did not slow down, and it directly hit the rear of the car in front. Afterwards, on the Tesla app on, an alarm was displayed, saying that at 9:37, there was a problem with the steering wheel and brakes(unavailable) and also, there is a manufacturer recall number:tbd NHTSA recall number 24v-035; tc2024-027 (the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner, I want to file an online complaint with NHTSA).

37 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/16/2024

As I attempted to make a left turn, I wasn't able to make a complete turn when the steering wheels partially locked on me, resulting the car hitting a utility pole, I could only drive forward or reverse, difficulty making a turn. I was able to make it home but the next day, it had to be towed to a Tesla authorized collision center for damage assessment. I'm hoping Tesla can remedy the problem because usually my kids are in the car with me. Reached out to Tesla regarding the incident, they took my information as to what happened exactly during the accident and that there would an investigation on their end which should take about 1 week.

38 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

While I was trying to pull up my vehicle at about 10mph from the street to my driveway after driving around 35 miles from work, the vehicle suddenly accelerated (unintended acceleration) to 40+ mph (based on logs) and hit the property. This put my life and others at home at risk. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representative. No warnings lights prior to incident. However, the message 'corrective steering applied for your safety' appeared periodically while driving back home even though the vehicle was very much within the lanes.

39 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/04/2023

Windshield of my car cracked spontaneously in two different occasions for no apparent reasons. First incident's occurred in June 2023 resulting in replacement of the windshield. Second incident occurred on December 4,2023 & vehicle is scheduled for replacement of the windshield. I thought the first event was due to rock hitting my car while driving on the highway but very likely it’s a spontaneous crack like the second.

40 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

We got the lease of this car from the previous owner. When we requested Tesla mobile service for a key issue, their associate noticed that the trunk door was not aligned and suggested us at some point to stop the car for service. The alignment got worst to the point that in the car wash the water was getting in and one time while we were driving the trunk door was opening itself and we had to stop in the side of the highway or street to close. We took the car for service and Tesla denied coverage for the trunk door issue. They tried to blame the past owner. The past owner said that the same week the car was delivered, he took the car back to Tesla because of the same issue in the trunk door and in the passenger side window. Tesla denied us the access to the car service/issues record and said that could not do anything about the issue. We took the car to the windermere collision center in winter garden/FL. They also said that its a manufacture issue happening in many Tesla y model. I was researching online and have many other complaints of the same issue. Thats a safety issue as the door opens itself while you are driving and also water can get inside of the car. Tesla have been playing dumb and their associates misleading us. Also I just saw in your website that this car should have been recalled for another issue. When we stopped the car for service Tesla associate lied saying that had no recalls due to this vehicle. . 41 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 10/19/2023

I used to have a 2021 performance y (the 2021 had none of these issues), and purchased a 2023 in early October. My current milage is 2,783. A few weeks into owning this car I could feel something hitting the cabin floor in varying situations. Initially I thought it was a road debris, but it was only at lower speeds. I should only be able to hear road debris and not feel it in the floor. I have come to believe that the car has loose structural bolts. I have a crease/dent in the roof pillar (passenger rear above door). It is an almost impossible spot to hit without a scratch or breaking the glass, and it would take an exorbitant amount of force to bend that pillar. I now have singled it out to torsion moments like entering a driveway or ramp. I believe this twisting could potentially compromise the battery pack and lead to fires in wet conditions.

42 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 10/06/2023

Defective factory paint. Dirt under the clear coat on hood - inspected by a reputable auto detailer/body shop.

43 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 08/25/2023

I am writing to formally submit a complaint against the Tesla service center in rockville, maryland. My concerns relate both to a potential safety issue and the subsequent handling of repairs to my vehicle. 1. **safety concern:** on 08/25/2023, the driver-side window of my Tesla vehicle shattered spontaneously without any evident external cause. This sudden malfunction while the car was in use is alarming, representing a significant safety concern for passengers and other road users. I believe that such a defect warrants immediate attention, especially if this is a recurring issue among other Tesla vehicles. 2. **unsatisfactory service post-incident:** after bringing my vehicle to the service above center for repairs, I was relieved that the window issue would be addressed under warranty. However, when my car was under Tesla’s care, another Tesla customer hit and damaged it within their premises. What is profoundly distressing is how the service center addressed this matter. Instead of accepting responsibility for an accident that happened in their domain, they deflected responsibility, advising me to coordinate with the other car owner for repairs. This has not only added to my inconvenience, but it has also cost me additional time off from work to address damages that were not my fault. Moreover, now I am faced with being without my vehicle for an extended period, given that the body shop estimates a 4-5 day repair timeline. In total, I have been without my car for nearly two weeks due to the initial window concern and the subsequent collision. This situation has raised concerns about the structural safety of Tesla vehicles and the integrity and responsibility of their service centers. Such a dismissive approach to customer care is unexpected from a brand of Tesla's stature. I strongly believe that no customer should face such challenges and inconvenience, especially when entrusting their vehicle to a service center.

44 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/31/2023

Windshield is causing a very loud whistling sound on a high speed exceeds 80mph. After multiple visits to the dealership, the windshield, cowl screen panel and sealing around the windshield was replaced but has not addressed the issue. The windshield was inspected by the dealership technicians and did a full diagnose and they have said that even if they replaced the windshield again will not address the sound whistling concern. The technician has said that is most likely a manufacture defect. This is a safety concern, as I'm afraid to operate my motor vehicle on a high speed and could uplift the windshield due to air pressure.

45 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/05/2023

Backing up in a parking lot with direct sun behind the car, lost sight via the mirrors, dashboard camera and parking assist and collided with parking bollard approximately 3' high causing extensive damage to the left, rear quarter panel and wheel well. Parking assist didn't beep, blare or other as it does and has for our yard waste bins and garden cart at the edges of our driveway (backing up in the dark). I believe the fact that cameras only and sun exposure is a bad mix and was sure glad we weren't in fsd and going forward. I think that removing the radar function via software and or removing the connector plug (at a service visit) is both unsafe and a fraud against the purchaser of such a vehicle and radar systems should be reinstated for the consideration of safety whether going backwards or forwards. Wanted to make the complaint first as we also can't get a service appointment for this incident until the end of July. Happy with the overall vehicle but this safety function is fallible and unsafe.

46 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/13/2023

Rear door is stuck and does not open, nor will the emergency release in the door, when activated, allow it to open. Poses a significant danger to anyone in the backseat, or if trying to get a child out from the backseat, say in the event of an accident on the opposite side. This must be addressed via a recall ASAP, or there will be serious consequences eventually.

47 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

I have had 3 broken windshields in 9,400 miles of travel. I am pretty sure each was caused by flying rocks, but at one repair the Tesla service manager mentioned that the windshields are very thin to save weight. I believe the windshields are vulnerable to damage. I have a 2018 Tesla model 3 with 90,000 miles that has never had a cracked windshield driving in the same locale. This is a real safety problem if the windshield cracks at speed. I don’t think cracked windshields are reported as faults, but I bet that there have been many many y’s with cracked windshields.

48 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

When driving at highway speeds (55 mph and above), the driver's side rearview mirror vibrates, making it difficult to see and identify back automobiles. This is a safety hazard when exiting the highway or merging the lines when the outside weather is raining/dark/snowing.

49 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 04/14/2023

I feel Tesla is building cars with non-standard parts and structural issues. 1. I bought a new car and started hearing brakes noises from 6000 miles where as previous car brakes rotors were good till 70k miles. 2. Within 9000 miles, driver side door, a pillar, b pillar, rear seats, display panel has to be either insulated or replaced. I am not sure how this effects car value or vehicle integrity going forward.

50 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 03/25/2023

I was stopped at a light, and I as I continued my trip after the green. I had put the car in auto pilot. As I approached the curve there deer to my left that got my attention. The vehicle didn't follow the road, nor did it announce with any warnings, or lane assists that the vehicle was departing the lane. Impact was made into a broken guard rail. Guard rail impaled the vehcile from the left side into the cabin impacting my left leg causing serious injuries.

51 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

As I was going up the ramp from peachtree-dunwoody road onto 285e on Thursday, Jan 5th around 7pm, there is a tree on the left hand side that has long branches that extend into the road. The branches of the tree hit the side of my car. I heard it as I was driving but didn’t think anything of it. When I got home I had the chance to look at my car. There is a scratch on the side of the car that the tree limbs hit. The scratch actually looks like someone keyed my car. My car is brand new and I want to report this incident to prevent others from getting their cars scratched up. It would be helpful if the tree limbs could be cut down to prevent car damage. I also would like to be compensated for the damage to my car. I am happy to provide pics of the tree and my car.

52 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Rear doors are stuck and locked shut, the known defect is on youtube with experts explaining this safety flaw where the door handles get stuck and locked and now Tesla refusing to service.

53 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

2nd row floor is flexing. Same issue found on model 3 which already has a service bulletin for it. Tried to tell Tesla service but they won't address it and will not fix it per the service bulletin and every shop that I went will do their own repair that doesn't fix the issue. Here's the service bulletin on the model 3 which is the same issue. Sb-18-45-002 https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2018/mc-10143016-9999. Pdf.

54 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

First my car was having issues charginging at the charge stations. Then as soon as that issue occurred, I had to replace the car battery. Then I noticed that the windows would randomly retract while I was driving my vehicle. My child had pointed out that his window was down, when he did not roll it down. Then I noticed some leakage from underneath my vehicle. My main concern of fluids leaking from my vehicle was my main concern. The Tesla dispatcher confirmed that concern by stating that fluids should not be leaking from my vehicle. When he started accusing me of having a car accident that caused me to be even more concerned. He told me that the Tesla service center on 1100 colorado Ave, santa monica, CA. Would find out if I did have an accident by running a diagnostics. When I had my car towed to the Tesla service center, their main concern was a hole in my tire and their professional opinion was to just patch up the tire and not replace the damaged product. Crystal, a representative from the service center said that she would address the main concern of the leakage which she never did. She told me that my car was ready for pickup. I was again confused because she never addressed my main concern. Then I asked what I was paying for and she simply said that it was on my estimate and that it’s a patch for my tire. She was very adamant about me picking up my car before the service center closed at 5:30 but told me at the last minute to do so. She did not explain the details of the leakage until I inquired about it. I did not receive the diagnostics that were promised to me by your Tesla dispatcher. Her explanation to my main concern was, “ no leak was detected under the car so just recommend monitoring and definitely taking a pic when it happens. If the leak is by my left front tire, it’s more likely to be my ac and can be normal. ” that did not make me feel like Tesla’s supplier code of conduct was being followed. Now I am being told that the only liquid coming fro.

55 Body problem of the 2023 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 11/09/2022

1. Brake system 2. After vehicle slowly pull up to the curb, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, while the brake was applied, it jump the curb in a shopping center and hit the post outside of a restaurant 3. It was a brand new vehicle just got delivered one day before, ~10 miles on odometer 4. No warning of any kind prior.

56 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/31/2022

Rear passenger side door was not able to be opened. Tesla service came out and fixed it. A door panel came loose and got wedged on the body seal. He was able to pry the door open and resecure the body seal. He said it happens frequently on this model car. It is a safety issue as if there was an accident (or other reason) someone needed to quickly get out of the car and that was the exit door they would be trapped. It is possible to kick the door open, but hard in a Tesla Model Y rear seat/door as there is no manual door handle, just an electronic button. It would be very hard for a young or old person to press that button and kick at door, making it impossible for them to escape. Tesla needs to redesign the door panel and add a manual door handle like the front doors have.

57 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/20/2022

The rear hatch can be opened while the car is in drive or reverse from a remote input from the app. On several occasion my hatch has opened from a remote input while in traffic while stopped at red lights. Tesla says this is normal behavior. So what is possible is someone can open the hatch from a remote input from anywhere without being able to see the car. My concern is when this has happened item could have fallen from my trunk into traffic resulting in damage or vehicles behind me. To close the hatch you must place the car in park first. Having a vehicle in park in traffic could result in a collision. You can not move the vehicle while the hatch is closing or it stops closing it takes several seconds to open or close the hatch and additional time to realize you must place the vehicle in park to close it. Remote input to operate the hatch should be disabled while the vehicle is in drive or reverse. The event has occurred on 4 occasions while driving the vehicle over the last year.

58 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

Front trunk (hood) flew open while driving at approximately 40mph. The front trunk lid/hood opened completely and smashed into the windshield, completely blocking driver visibility and breaking the glass. It is unclear as to how the front trunk became unlocked, but in the event it was unlocked while the car was in park, the car should not have been able to shift into gear. Tesla Model Y's owners manual states: "if the front trunk is not closed, a message displays on the touchscreen that you cannot shift the vehicle out of park until the front trunk is securely closed (see park). " additionally, the owners manual states: "model y will not shift out of park if the front trunk is not securely shut" in the event the trunk was open prior to driving, the car should not have been able to shift out of park. Or, if the trunk opened while driving, there was a latch or electrical problem. Tesla's representative reviewed the incident log from the vehicle and stated that an ignore button was pressed on screen, once the vehicle indicated that the front trunk was open. Quickly pressing a button while driving to a safe place to pull over is reasonable. But, regardless, there should be some sort of fail over that prevents the hood from flying open in the event the front trunk is accidentally opened, or in the event the trunk randomly opens on its own. Perhaps a secondary latch or disabling the vehicle from driving? the hood flying up, smashing the windshield and completely blocking the drivers' visibility could have caused a severe or potentially fatal collision. Additionally, the incident caused over $4,143. 34 in vehicle damage on a car that has just 202 miles on it.

59 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/03/2022

The welding link on the frunk is broken and while driving the frunk is pressing down while driving the car.

60 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 06/02/2022

While driving the frunk/hood opened while vehicle was in motion. Everything says your not able to drive or opening while in drive. My wife had just used it shopping. Drove 300 yards with no warnings. Then stopped at a light then when she was accelerating it opened and broke windshield, hood and hinges, scratched left fender inside. She was able to pull over without cause anymore damage to her or anyone else. I then meet her and I was able to drive the car with the hood open and damaged. I then removed the hood completely in order to drive it home all while no safety warnings going off. Tesla has had it since 6/3 and no determination of why or fault. $4600 estimate for repairs still not fixed.

61 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/29/2022

Rear undertray composite cover partially peeled off and began dragging on the road creating a driving hazard. This problem has been reported in online forums on many occasions.

62 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/21/2022

Unspecific event. I hope this report, without my having an incident myself is looked into enough to apply a standard across all manufacturers to make sure the public aren’t so unknowingly put at risk. All because of an ill thought through design. My vehicle has no easy access to exit rear seats if there is any kind of electrical failure. My rear passengers will not be able to exit the vehicle. Manual override of electronic door controls are hidden beneath door panels and trims. With no mechanical connection on the outer handle, even if the driver uses the front manual release, they cannot rescue rear passengers. The outside door handles are electronic only. Imagine a fire like vancouver happening, when a child is in a car seat or has less mobile passengers like seniors. Neither can be expected to climb to the front or out a side window to reach safety. No means to unlock doors or open doors makes this vehicle unsafe to carry passengers in the back, nevermind versions of my vehicle that have 7 seats and a third row, which will most certainly be carrying kids due to the available room. . This design flaw exists in Tesla model 3’s also. I’m not sure of other vehicles or brands. Older vehicles with mechanical door controls still allow a door to be opened from outside if on fire or suffering an electrical problem. These back seats aren’t safe and for Model Y as an SUV marketed to families, it’s only a matter of time til tragedy occurs.

63 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 05/04/2022

The roof glass cracked with no impact and no accident. No chip or missing pieces of glass. Everything is in tack but has cracked.

64 Body problem of the 2022 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 03/24/2022

Windows fail to roll up and stay closed.

65 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 02/18/2022

The incident occurred after a rainstorm and there was some debris laid out across the road. We were travelling in the morning before sunrise at 20 mph and we felt a small branch or object hit the underside of our car. We took it out to drive again at noon time and it warned us that the coolant was low and that car may not start up once shut down. We towed it to Tesla service center in paramus NJ and they informed us of the condition. They informed us that the coolant pipe was punctured and the coolant spread onto the battery. They explained to us that the branch hit an area and caused the coolant to leak inside the battery and there is no plate to protect it at the underside of the car. They also informed us that there could have been a fire accident if we put it on charge after the underside collision. They also informed us that the coolant pipe was plastic. Despite this flaw in their design, they insist that they will not cover it since it was an external issue and have asked us to pay close to $16,000. Please help.

66 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/14/2022

We were trying to park the car at costco parking lot on Jan 14th, 2022 in the early afternoon. A car had pulled out of a parking spot and indicated us to move forward in that spot. When we tried to move forward, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit three other cars. The airbags did not come on. We have asked Tesla to look into this and are awaiting a response. There was damage to front end, both bumpers, hoods, front grill etc. The accident was reported to the police, insurance company and Tesla. The vehicle was towed to Tesla dealership and then was sent to another repair facility, gerber collision in beria, ohio.

67 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

I think regenerative braking makes the Tesla y fishtail and swerve when driving in snow, ice or slippery surfaces when you decelerate or go downhill. The regenerative brakes cause the car to suddenly brake in snow or ice. If you brake suddenly in snow in a normal car, you may swerve, and this swerving is worse if the car is turned slightly. A friend swerved suddenly going downhill in wa in a snow storm. He recovered by lightly touching the accelerator. My Tesla y spun 90 degrees when I took foot off accelerator in snowstorm in ri and I was able to recover. Minutes later on expressway at 25 mph, I took foot off accelerator and the car spun 180 degrees and hit a guard rail. In the chevy bolt owners manual, under winter driving, the first bullet point they make is to put the car in d--which turns off regenerative braking. You can reduce the amount of regenerative braking on a Tesla, but you can not turn it off. Under driving in winter on the Tesla on the website, there is no mention of reducing the regenerative braking in snow or ice. I think any ev with regenerative braking is at risk of spinning out in snow, ice or on slick surfaces.

68 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 11/06/2021

Tesla delivered a car with a concerning mechanical defect on all four hinges of both rear/forward doors. There are deep gouges to the metal on all four hinges. They have no explanation as to why the metal that holds the doors I place has been damaged. Multiple calls to Tesla has resulted in them saying they will absolutely not look at the issues on the car until December 10th. They said that I can't even bring it in to a service center for safety inspection. I wanted to reject delivery and get a safer car but they said that I would then not receive a car for 4-6 months later. Meanwhile they had already accepted payment, so I would be on the hook for payments. I don't know if these. Doors are safe, I'm looking for a Tesla to say whether the car is safe to drive or not, and find out what caused the damage. Tesla will only tell me that they will look at the car in December.

69 Body problem of the 2021 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 10/12/2021

Sudden acceleration while stopped. Car was stopped in the driveway of my home while waiting for the garage door to open. Suddenly the car bolted forward, crashed through the rising garage door and then through the side of the garage and into the front steps of my home. The car is equiped with auto pilot, but it was not engaged. While reviewing other incidents of this type on your website, I noticed that other people mentioned their Tesla's having the autopilot feature but I saw no mention of the Model Y. Although extensive damage happened to the car and my home, no one was injured. However if this had happened while at a stop light or at a crosswalk someone could have been killed or injured. My insurance CO. Did not seem interested in investigating this event, haven't heard back from Tesla.

70 Body problem of the 2020 Tesla Model Y

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

Rear passenger doors do not have an easily accessible/marked interior emergency manual latch release. In the event that power is lost to the vehicle, one must remove a mat in the door pocket, pry open a cover, and pull an unlabeled cable to release the door latch. This is also the case in at least the Tesla model 3, don't know about x and s. The front doors have a separate handle above the window control on the armrest for manual emergency release, but this is not present on the rear doors. The hidden release is not something that a rear seat passenger, especially a child, would be reasonably expected to be capable of operating in the event of an emergency, and could lead to entrapment if the front doors are not openable due to accident damage.
