1 Front Suspension Stabilizer Bar problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

This well maintained vehicle had been functioning flawlessly up to this point. Our son was on his way home and vehicle felt unstable and started to veer in both directions. He maintained control of the vehicle and was able to get home. I personally drove the vehicle upon his description and sure enough it seemed very unstable. After close examination, it was determined that the frame had separated at a location which left a drivers side rear stabilizer bar detached from the frame. The frame of the vehicle is completely deteriorating and flaking apart. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. We purchased this one owner vehicle for our son. We owned a Toyota sequoia that gave us safe reliable transportation for our family for many years and thought this 4runner would be a safe and reliable vehicle for our son to go off to college. The body and mechanics of the vehicle were very sound. Now, to find out, because of the inferior frame, the vehicle is worthless. We are out the money we paid for the vehicle and disheartened by Toyota's response that our vehicle was not part of the frame recall that was a known problem and safety issue for so many owners. This could have turned out to be a life threatening situation if he had not been able to bring the vehicle under control. We understand rust & corrosion, but this is extreme. I have owned many different brands of vehicles and have never seen anything like this. This frame is literally crumbling away leaving a beautiful vehicle to waste.

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

I was driving in school zone posted 20 mph school zone road a little rough uneven surface while driving approx. 20 mph when I felt the vehicle strayed to the right when I stepped on the brakes and after releasing the brakes to take off again hearing thump and vehicle strayed to right keeping the steering wheel straight which felt like rear end of vehicle gong to right and front end steering to left a lot of swaying and thumping upon applying and releasing my feet on and off the brake pedal and taking off from a dead stop and applying the brakes to stop and a thump sound, I pulled over and checked the wheels seem ok but upon looking underneath my vehicle just in front of drivers side rear wheel frame attached to the stabilizer bar rotted and dropped down exposing my gas tank had to have vehicle plates welded to frame to use vehicle again welder said frame all rotted out.

6 Front Suspension Stabilizer Bar problem of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

I was driving on the interstate and all of the sudden my car started to bounce left and right and couldn't stop it. I pulled over and inspected the car . When I checked the rear suspension I"ve seen that the entire bracket that holds the stabilization bar on the driver side was completely broken due to rusted frame. I never seen something like this before. This is unacceptable . I took the car to a Toyota dealer in libertiville IL and after they inspected the car they told me that the frame is completely rusted and that the car is unsafe to drive but unfortunately there is nothing they can do at this time as a dealer cause Toyota does not a have a recall on Toyota 4 runners but there is a recall with the same issues on other models like tacoma or tundra. This is ridiculous . What am I going to do with this car now. I just want to mention that I took the car to a local repair shop in my area and when they seen it they told me that they can not weld the frame at this point cause the entire frame is routed and its not safe to drive the car. So my car is trash now . Thanks Toyota.

My 17 year old daughter was driving car and pulled severely to left. She was able to control car and slow down, drive car home. I had mechanic look at it and said frame had rooted and stabilization bar broke loose car can not be fixed and is to dangerous to drive. This seems to be a common problem with this year 4 runner Toyota is aware of it and refuses to take any responsibility. Very dangerous.
