1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

Our fuel pump and a gasket went out at same time. No warning it was going to happen, lunged forward 5 feet and then died. Going to cost $1,000 to fix. It looks like Toyota has recalls on fuel pumps but it doesn't cover our year yet.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 12/08/2020

On December 8 , 2020, the above referenced vehicles engine stalled three times while in driving mode. On all three occasions, the vehicle was moving at a speed less than 40 mph. The vehicle restarted after each stall, when the gear shifter was placed in park. The vehicle seemed to be running out of fuel and/or having fuel pump problems. The fuel level of the vehicle was half full. I purchased the vehicle October 21, 2020. Todate, I have experienced 5 engine stalls. The vehicle had approximately 28. 700 miles. The malfunctioning of the vehicle is an ongoing problem that has been reported the dealer as well as butler Toyota in macon georgia who informed me that they were not sure if they could diagnose the problem without keeping it for weeks, possibly at my personal expense. I chose not to leave the vehicle under the circumstances. I will return the car to the seller under the 90 day certified warranty agreement. Also, I will continue to pursue whatever remedy Toyota may provide under the vehicles remaining warranty. I traded a 2013 Toyota highlander on the vehicle in question. I am a very disappointed Toyota customer who is very concerned about the safety of the vehicle in question.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2015 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 09/26/2020

My children and I almost died twice! 4 runner almost caused serious injury or death. 9/24/20, 6:15 pmish, vehicle in motion for approximately over an hour, 70mph cruise control set, beginning to climb up a large mountain westbound interstate 8. Engine hesitates/stalls briefly, steering became difficult, car shuddered, was difficult to maintain control of vehicle, only lasted seconds. At a slower speed engine back up and all was fine, assumed it was not a major issue. Continued driving the vehicle for the next two days at same higher speeds and for long periods of time. 9/26/20, around 6:30 pm, vehicle in motion for over an hour, about 70mph flow of traffic, not in cruise control, flat road, eastbound interstate 8, left lane of 4 lanes of traffic. Engine stalls/hesitates for about 10 long seconds, loss of power steering, almost ran into barricade on left, almost ran into car on right, luckily no one behind us. Saw blackish smoke out rearview mirror. Loud sounds, shaking and grinding. After about 10 seconds and crying/screaming kids, engine no longer stalled and was able to control vehicle to turn on hazards. We are lucky to be alive! safety exited, contacted Toyota service to inform them. Vehicle towed 161 miles to dealership, they see nothing wrong with the vehicle and were ready to release it to us. Back story, most all service performed by Toyota dealership and did what was suggested. 8/31/20 Toyota poway installed fuel pump safety recall (prior to this I had no issue, this was preventative) a week later engine light on, alexander Toyota, finds my safety recalled part was incorrectly secured/installed. They fixed it and returned the car. Since the fuel pump safety recall part was improperly installed we are now experiencing engine hesitation/stalls, our vehicle is unsafe can cause serious injury of death.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 04/27/2020

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2015 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 04/20/2020

About 4-5 times per year for the past 4 years my vehicle will hesttate or stall for 3-4 seconds when trying to accelerate after stopping at a red light or stop sign. This happens intermittently, at no regular sequence, and without warning of any kind. I have not received a letter from the manufacturer about a recall, but the NHTSA informed me that a fuel pump recall notice was made public on January 20, 2020. I have contacted my local dealer on two occasions, but they tell me the same thing each time, that I need to wait on a letter from the manufacturer telling me that they will remedy the situation. As of this date, 4/23/2020, I have not received such a letter, and the NHTSA says the same thing. My understanding is that the manufacturer has to send such a remedy letter within 60 days of the public notification, and that time period has expired. It seems that the problem with my vehicle could very well be the fuel pump needing to be replaced. Can you pursue the manufacturer to issue their remedy letter before a serious accident occurs?.

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

I bought a new 2019 Toyota 4 runner sr5 premium June 2019, I received by mail a recall notice fuel pump in Feb 2020, then notified again it was not a recall between March-may 2020. Then, in oct 2020 Toyota issued the same recall fuel pump but I wasn't notified until Jan/Feb 2021 by mail. I took it to the dealer in Feb, they called Toyota who said they didn't have the parts for a remedy. We know what the problem is with the fuel pump because it was disclosed the impellars & what occurred during the mfg phase. Anyhow the dealer couldn't replace it as I was going to pay out of pocket. I'm very irritated because I bought an unreliable vehicle & can't make a long distance road trip fearing the fuel pump will fail. I'm still waiting for a remedy which is a new fuel pump. It's obvious Toyota doesn't care for people putting their lives at risk driving around with a bad fuel pump. This needs to be resolved once & for all. They need to beef up the re-mfg of the fuel pump & take care of their customers like me that spent 44,000 on a cruddy vehicle. I'm ready to get rid of it. Please help.

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/13/2020

My issue is primarily with Toyota corporate and how they are handling the fuel pump recall. A brand new vehicle with less than 5000 miles has a recall for a random fuel pump failure, and Toyota does not have a remedy available nor do they have a timeline for when the remedy may be available. They are requiring their customers to assume the risk of the stall or car wreck while they are trying to figure out the cheapest way to replace the fuel pumps in 700,000 vehicles. I am no vehicle engineer, but if the fuel pump is the issue, and they have isolated to a faulty batch of fuel pumps, it seems that the remedy would be replacing the fuel pump. My guess is that Toyota is trying to only partially replace or fix parts on the fuel pump to save a few dollars per fix instead of putting their customers first. The least they could do would be to be forthcoming about the timeline or why there is a delay. Instead, they are either putting their customers at risk in a car that they have acknowledged can have a random fuel pump failure leading to bodily harm or injury, or they force their customers into a subpar loaner/rental car (I initially went from a 4runner to a minivan) and having to return to the rental car company to sign a new contract every 30 days.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/05/2020

My vehicle was in motion, and the engine shut off. I was able to restart the vehicle several times, but it would only continue running for 5 to 60 seconds. After about 30 minutes the vehicle started and drove to my destination (home). The problem persisted for 3 days, with only one successful short drive amidst several stalls and restarts. Each time the vehicle started, but did not run for long before dying. I towed it to my local Toyota dealership 9 days ago and they were not able to find any issue. . . The problem seems to have fixed itself, at least for now. However, today the news reported a recall for newer model 4 runners that have a problem with the fuel pump causing the vehicle to stall while driving, posing a serious risk. I believe this may be the same issue that is affecting my 2013 4 runner.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

I came home last night at about 9:30 pm and parked the car in the garage. This morning at 7:30 am I went into the garage and heard a buzzing sound coming from near the rear wheels of the car. My best guess was the fuel pump was still running (I had had a different problem with a fuel pump not running when the ignition was turned on with a 2000 Jaguar about a year ago). I turned the ignition on and off without cranking the engine, the buzzing continued. I started the 4runner, ran it for about 20 seconds, and shut the engine off. Buzzing stopped.
