3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

Hissing sound like pressure loss from gas refill point and limited ability to use gas pumps due to back pressure that shuts down the pump nozzle. Vehicle was stationary at mobile, speedway and irving stations. None responded to putting fuel in the tank without numerous back pressure shutdowns at the pump.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 07/13/2015

Readings fluctuates, or indicate more gas than actually in tank. I was on the freeway in motion and the truck stopped working. I lost power steering and power breaks. It was a dangerous situation and lucky nothing happened. It turns out the quarter tank reading was false. The tank was empty.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2009 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

Driving along a two lane u. S. Highway at the posted speed, I noticed that my fuel gauge was showing fully empty, and the warning light was flashing. Pushing the odometer trip button, I noticed that I had not yet reached the mileage for a "normal" fill up, where I routinely get 20-21 mpg. At the end of that trip, when I turned the vehicle off and restarted it, the fuel gauge showed half full. Using the trip odometer, I drove an additional estimated 30 miles to home. The fuel gauge continued to display half full. The next morning, I drove approximately 3 miles to the gas station, and was surprised when it took almost 15 gallons to fill the tank. The needle on the gauge then went to full. Since then it has only come down to one half, yet my mileage now is at the point (261-270) where I normally fill up when the needle near the empty line. I believe this problem is no doubt widespread.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 11/18/2012

I'm the original owner of this 1999 Toyota 4runner. Fuel gauge is inaccurate, gives misleading information. According to specification this gas tank can holds 18. 5 gallons, but when the gauge said it was empty I filled it all the way up and it only took ~13 gallons. This a faulty design and it needs to be recalled and repaired for customer. I didn't notice this problem until I have a long trip ~ 500 miles away from home.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

On 7/7/12 I was driving for a dog rescue transport and noticed a strong fuel smell in the vehicle. I thought nothing of it at first since I had just filled up the truck and a gas can. What I did notice was my gas gauge was dropping incredibly fast so I looked for a clear area on shoulder that should the truck catch fire. (very dry in NJ at the time) I found my area and shut truck off and drifted into the shoulder. Exited the vehicle and began rushing to empty the seven dog crates (just in case) on the shoulder behind guard rail. Once we were all clear, I walked over to vehicle and popped hood. There was fuel saturating everything, including still dripping from insulation material under the hood directly onto and around the exhaust area. By Toyota design, there is a clip that retains/separates two hoses directly on top of the fuel line that had worn a hole into the fuel line. On 7/9/12 I went to Toyota dealer to get the hose which I find out is part number 23801(p)-62071. It turns out there are only seven of this listed part in the whole united states and that it would cost me $75 and a week or more to get the part. I went home and browsed the net to find only one store that stocks this item and ordered through them to save about $20 but still the same turn around time (lost about $67 in fuel as tank is now bone dry plus a $250 flatbed tow fee. I am out almost $400). I has been a week my vehicle has been out of service due to a Toyota design flaw, and they will not fess up to the design flaw or even offer a loaner car.
