2017 Toyota 4 runner sr5 while driving on the highway the vehicle stopped apparently the fuel pump stopped working and could not get going anymore. I had a mechanic come to the house with a pc and test it. He told me that’s a change that will need to take place in a garage. Luckily I was able to stop on the side and paid someone to bring car home.

Throttle has a lag when depressing gas pedal (occasionally a dead petal symptom) research indicates a TSB t-sb-0166-10 exist that relates to this issue. Lack of Toyota dealer assistance with this issue when contacted (Toyota of round rock texas 78664) this issues is a safety concern when operating vehicle due to lack of throttle response when accelerating into traffic. When issue occurs, vehicle "stalls" and creates a dangerous situation that eventually will result is an accident.

Fuel pump make noises and I can hear it.

The conectors wire of the fuel pump was burn, inside the fuel pump the wire is melted. I thing is danger because the gas can involved.

Vehicle was parked in garage. Inspecting vehicle at 22:00, noise was heard. Source of noise was fuel pump located behind drivers side rear tire. Garage smelled of gasoline. Vehicle was turned off at 15:00 that day. Started up vehicle with no issues and let run for 1. 5 minutes then turned off. Noise was still present until vehicle was locked via remote. Vehicle was not locked after being turned off at 15:00 until 22:00.

Car keeps running out of gas while driving, due to faulty readings on the gas gauge and electronic readout. I have been driving this car for 11 years and never ran out of gas until running out 3 times in the past 2 months. Today was the 3rd occurrence, gas gauge showed over 1/4 tank and 85 miles to go until empty. Previous incident was similar with 1/4 tank and showing 65 miles to go. (pictures attached). The miles to go reading seems to be increasing with each incident (1st incident showed 25 miles, second incident 65 miles, then 85 miles today). No low fuel indicator light or warning has appeared on any of these 3 occasions. This is a very dangerous situation potentially causing loss of life as drivers have seconds to navigate their vehicle off the highway, while quickly losing speed and loss of steering. On7/2022 when I came out of my house in the evening my 2018 4runner was not been running for hours but I heard my fuel pump running with no keys in the switch would not stop running until I turned the switch on and then turned it back off and then fuel pump stopped running I reported to my dealer but they didn’t seem interested so I am sending this to you any thing I tell the dealer where I got my 2018 4runner service dealer seems to go unheard. I got my 2018 4 runner brand new in 2018 and I was having issues with the 4runner shaking in the front end and steering wheel and took it back more than 5 times but only to be told it was nothing but. I am still having problems with it but they have not fixed it or anything.

Fuel pump failed , vehicle stalled driving 70 down highway. . I have read there is a recall in place for 2014, 2015, 2017,2018 4 runners. Why not 2016?.

My 2019 Toyota 4runner was inhabited by a rat that chewed the wiring harness in at least 3 different areas. The damage occurred between 8pm and 7am. The vehicle started with lights on the dash illuminated. The car was out into drive and was jerking. Reverse had the same result. After inspecting under the hood of the car wires were seen chewed partially and a few completely severed. A rat was seen under the manifold cover. I used an air hose to evict it and had the car towed to dealership. The bill was just under $1000 to repair. I was warned it could have been worse ($6000) if harness needed changing. I was told “I was lucky”. After researching I discovered this is a problem because of soy based wiring. It’s an attractant for rodents.

Toyota 4 runner had a recall for the fuel pump. I have been having starting issues with it ever since. The power is good and the starter tries to turn the vehicle over. But the vehicle won't start. I have taken it to multiple locations for service through out the chicago land area. Also once the vehicle finally does start. The r. P. M. S will suddenly increase and decrease to the point that the vehicle turns off while in drive. I can provide print outs when the vehicle gets fixed, if ever. I purchased the vehicle as cpo.

Manufacture defect.

Due to severe rust underneath the vehicle, there have been a few issues that have made the vehicle very unsafe to drive. Last week, both of my rear brake lines were completely done and leaking brake fluid leaving me with no brakes. This was due to rust and corrosion that had eaten the metal lines away. The radiator mounts are corroding, as well as the skid plate for my fuel tank and a few spots on my frame near the rear. I was not aware of the rust as I just got the vehicle a few weeks ago. I was driving in traffic when my brake light came on and I noticed my brakes didn't seem to be very effective and they eventually got the point where they were not working or slowing the vehicle at all. Once I took it to the shop and they put it on the lift, the mechanics pointed out just how bad the rust was.

Extensive, rapidly spreading rust throughout the vehicle's frame and fuel tank supports leaving little or nothing holding the fuel tank or areas of the suspension together. Vehicle cannot be safely placed on a lift for service because of thin metal in the bottom of the frame. .

Frame is rusting apart rear lower trailing arm section has already been patched by previous owner upper trailing arm connection point to frame crossmember has perished due to rust if the other side breaks the rear axle can flex excessively causing control problems Toyota’s service campaign for other trucks should not have omitted the 4runner which shares many identical design characteristics.

I was driving on the expressway, at about 70 to 75 miles. Suddenly the vehicle just slowed down to 40 miles per hour. I almost got hit from the back by a truck. But, then it suddenly picked back up. This has happened several times but the shop nor the dealer could tell me what was wrong. I finally took it to another shop and they said it was the fuel pump. So I start researching to see if there were recalls on the fuel pump and yes their are. But not for my vehicle year. They are for 2013 to 2020. What can I do about that? this started about 3 to 4 months ago.

Car would have trouble starting. Once I got it to start it would stall when stopped.

My 2018 4runner stalled 12/12 amidst my having made a turn out of my drive way and commencing acceleration of the vehicle. My speed couldn't have been in excess pn 20 mph. I did not loose electrical functions. The vehicle simply lost mobility. I shifted the vehicle to neutral and juggled the accelerator and regained acceleration, without any further such incidents of the kind. The following day 12/14 the vehicle stalled yet again at a point of accelerateation at approximately 15 mph. On this occasion I was turning yet again at low speed. The succession of stalls seems to occur at low speed while on the process of turning. Arrangements have been made to return the vehicle to lowe Toyota in warner robins to leave the vehicle for further observations. I will be personally driving the vehicle.

Recall still does not have resolution identified. Unsafe to drive at high speeds.

I contacted NHTSA but haven't heard back. It's been over 2 months now and nothing from Toyota about the recall.

The 4runner hesitates at 40mph and 60mph when trying to coast/maintain speed with slight pressure on the gas pedal. At other speeds or while accelerating at 40/60mph there is no hesitation. I took it to the dealership, but they said they can't replicate the problem. It is still happening though.

Need to remedy this open recall of driving a vehicle that can shut off while driving at high speeds. I have been calling Toyota on a weekly basis asking for a remedy, but have not been provided an answer. How are people supposed to keep driving a vehicle that could just shut off and lose control?.

The dealer informed the contact that their vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the remedy was not available. The VIN did not show the recall association on the NHTSA website. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed the VIN was included and that the remedy would be available mid-March. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 14,649. Gl.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Cavender Toyota service center (5802 stemmons, san antonio, TX 78238, (877)676-9734, was contacted by phone and confirmed the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Toyota came out with recall 1-13-2020 (NHTSA recall number 20v012) and as of 5-29-2020, they still claim that no remedy is available. What is a timely period to wait?.

I purchased this vehicle used from a dealer in 2014 with low miles on it and it appeared to be in great shape. The undercarriage was sprayed with what I thought was a coating to protect against rust. I realize now the dealer was probably trying to hide the rust problems. The coating flaked off a short time later and ever since, I too have been plagued by the frame and other component rust problems. Had to replace the exhaust, running boards, sway bar and several other things that all rusted off on the undercarriage. My skid plates are about to fall off next. Just had my brakes replaced and the shop noticed a couple areas where frame now has holes through it and says it likely won't pass state inspection which will be coming due soon. The rust problems with these 4runners seems like a big problem that Toyota should address. I'm going to have to put a bunch more money into fixing this vehicle or be left with a worthless piece of junk I can't drive and will be taking a big loss on.

Vehicle was in motion on a city street on 12/24/18 when the entire system (engine, electrical etc. ) completely quit. I was near a stop light, so I stopped and restarted the engine and resumed travel. On 12//27/18 I was in motion in a parking lot and the entire system failed again. At this time no systems were operable including lighting and the vehicle did not immediately restart with the ignition key. After approximately 5 minutes the vehicle responded to the ignition key and restarted. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealership and they did a diagnostics test. No issues were found during the test and they were unable to duplicate the complete system failure. They did and audio system update and I picked the vehicle back up on 12/28/18.

The Toyota secondary air system has failed rendering my car without traction control. . . And other lights. There is no preventative measures for this part and Toyota used the exact same system on the tundra's and sequoia's with the same problem I'm having. This needs to be addressed as the repair for the system is roughly 4000. 00 almost half the cost of my car. . . Please make them fix this on all cars where the same system was used.

Massive fuel leak from the soy-based fuel lines. Allegedly an animal chewed thru them which was attracted by the soy-based product (rather than the petroleum based lines of the past) I have great fear that the incident will repeat itself. Fuel lines sprayed out about 8-10 gallons of fuel during 30 minutes while driving.

I want to know if there is a recall for this vechicle for maniflod/exhaust/catilitic converter.

Low fuel light comes on with around 5-6 gallons of fuel remaining and gas hand goes from full to half after only 70 miles.

The gauge reading will gradually change while driving or will show a different reading after cycling the ignition key ¿off¿ and then ¿on¿. The gauge will come off of ¿full¿ quickly.

Toyota uses new green (environment friendly) wiring that is tasty to rodents and other pest- they are aware that it can attract animals to eat the wiring and electrical systems on their vehicles and refuse to cover the damages incurred on the warranty - they refer the customers to seek monetary aide from their insurance company - in my case it was $3000. 00 in damages to my vehicle for a rat eating the wires /electrical system. My insurance paid for it - but how can I be assured it will not occur again. ?? Toyota needs to be responsible.
