2004 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall notice concerning engine crankshaft pulley the consumer believed unnecessary repairs were made to the vehicle, prior to receiving the recall notice. The consumer experienced difficulty in turning the steering wheel, the steering was sluggish and there was a vibration. The power steering pump was replaced. The brakes, tires, and rack and pinion were also replaced.
: the contact stated while traveling at 70 mph lost power steering. The vehicle suddenly became difficult to steer. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the service dealer for inspection. After inspection the dealer informed the contact that power steering pump failed. Repairs have been made. Updated 1/23/2006 - at not time prior to or after failure did the vehicle exhibit any external fluid loss.
