1 Steering Noise problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/07/2017

Heard rattling noise in steering wheel when making left or right turns. I removed the 2 plastic covers on each side of the steering wheel and then continued to drive in hopes that whatever was loose and rattling would fall out. After about a week of driving, a small aluminum fastener (screw) fell out of the steering apparatus. Approximately 3 weeks later, noticed the same rattling noise that's occurring when turning the steering wheel. Suspect another fastener is loose inside the steering wheel assembly. This fastener has yet to fall out of the steering wheel assembly and continues to move freely inside the steering wheel when making turns. I'm concerned that this metal fastener could cause a short within the steering wheel causing the airbag to deploy or make the steering wheel malfunction. Is this a problem?.

2 Steering Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

My 2006 Toyota Avalon xls exhibits loud knocking noise when turning steering wheel at low speeds. Dealer said this is a problem with the 2006 Avalon and can be fixed by replacing the steering column at a cost of $911. This is a problem that Toyota should have issued a recall to fix since they knew about it since 2004 and have issued various service bulletins on subject.

3 Steering Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/18/2009

I have begun to notice a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel at low speeds, going forward or in reverse. I am now reading about this happening to other Avalon 2006 owners. The car has 35,000 miles on it and this started showing up at around 30k. At first I thought it was the brake pads knocking, but I'm almost certain it is the steering shaft from what others are describing. It goes in the shop tomorrow for the vvt oil recall fix and I will discuss this unacceptable and perhaps dangerous condition with the Toyota service department.

4 Steering Noise problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/23/2009

My 2005 Toyota Avalon developed a noise in the steering. The dealer told me the grease had leaked passed the seals on the intermediate steering shaft. With no grease in the shaft, it will break and cause a loss of steering which could result in an accident or death. Toyota customer service said that since the car has more and 36000 miles and is over 3 years old, the problem is not their responsibility. Grease should not leak pass the seals on the shaft and should be Toyota's responsibility to repair. They told me it would cost $562.

My 2006 Toyota Avalon(touring) has a loud knocking/clunking noise when turning steering wheel at low speeds. Dealer said this was a problem with the 2006 Avalons and can be fixed by replacing the sreering column at a cost of $700-800. Second steering column replaced. 15k-20k later. . Same problem. . Dealer lub the linkage,15k-20k later same problem, dealer lub the linkage again. At 98000,same problem,my Toyota warranty had expired at 96k and the dealer wated $800 to replace the steering column, his cost amount. Area Toyota repr. 7 Steering Noise problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/11/2005

I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon purchased new in April,2005. I also have an earlier complaint,odi#10119869,regarding having to re sauder radio speaker wires, replacing the bushings and lower sub frame,as well as air conditoning, steering, and radio problems all occurring in the first 33 miles of owning the new car. I accidentally filed it under a Toyota scion for Toyota corp. Please see that compliant also. . This complaint is about the transmission. It seems to not want to get out of first gear. Getting onto the the freeway is terrible,as well as driving in slow traffic. I have taken it into the dublin Toyota dealership and they said there is nothing wrong,it's just that the sensory computer in the car knows how I drive and the gears follow my driving habits. They said they reset it,that maybe when the car was test driven,it set itself to another driver. They said to drive it easy for the first 50 miles, then normally after that. Well, before I even drove off thier lot,it stuck again-but I had to go to work so I called them as soon as I got to work and have to take it back in again. The real safety issue occurred yesterday, when I was the first car waiting at a train crossing for about 3 minutes while the train was passing. Afetr it passed,as I was crossing the tracks,it took about 15 seconds for the car to move ,again stuck and reving in low gear!I have almost been rear ended on freeway entrances, red lights turning to green, andnd numerours other times, and now on train tracks!!!!something has to be done- I also have compliined to the dealership about noises when steering and they said it is just the release of the brakes. Since I cannnot duplicate it,they say there is nothing I can do- it is not the brakes because it happens when I am making sharp turns.
