Tire Tread/belt problems of the 1998 Toyota Camry

Six problems related to tire tread/belt have been reported for the 1998 Toyota Camry. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2007

Prior to driving car my wife noticed tires appeared to be fine before driving on freeway. While driving on the freeway with cruise control activated my wife noticed car began to lose power. Gradually drove off towards shoulder. Tire separated and landed about 20 feet in back of car on road. No injuries. We have not spoken to dealer yet. Tire size is p195/70r14 (unable to select this size on your form).

2 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2003

I was driving down I-15 and the tread of the front passenger tire tore off ,which caused damage to the fender,signal light & bumper.

3 Tire Tread/belt problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2001

While driving at highway speed could hear a noise coming from left front tire. Then, upon stopping discovered a tread separation. Toyota, Camry, 1998, p-195/70r14. Consumer statesleft wheel separated from rim, vehicle was towed to dealership.

4 Tire Tread/belt problem

Both front tires experienced abnormal tread wear on the inside, the worst of the two front tires was worn to the casing and was discarded when it developed a leak, possibly related to the tires or the front end suspension system. Nlm.

5 Tire Tread/belt problem

General nation general tires (p195 70 r14) are treadless and back tire on right side is cracking.

6 Tire Tread/belt problem

General tires (p 205/65 r15) wearing excessively on the inside tread.
