Air Bag Not Deploy problems of the 1999 Toyota Camry - part 1

The air bag light on dash flashes. This has been going on for years. I have had it checked numerous times by an authorized Toyota service dealer and they used to mess with some wires under the drivers seat until the light stopped flashing. That fix last for a few months and then the flashing light returns. This situation has never been resolved which leaves me to wonder if I have air bag protection or not. Luckily I have had no major accidents ,for I suspicion that if I did those air bags would not deploy. I need to resolve this safety issue !.

The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Camry solara. While driving approximately 35 mph, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle at a high rate of speed. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,600.

I was traveling at a speed of 45 mph, when another car ran a stop sign. I t-boned the other car and my air bag did not go off. My breast bone was broken due to my body's impact with the steering wheel. I am only reporting this incident now because of an article I read about air bags not deploying during accidents.

While I don't know the precise speed at the time of impact, the speed limit in that area is 35 miles per hour. I want an investigation as to why the airbags did not deploy.

I reported this to complaints. Com on 11/12/2005 but wanted to also submit it to you due to all of the news lately. In November 2005, my parents were driving their 1999 Camry and pulling slowing into a parking spot. Just as they were about to complete parking and only going less than a mile per hour, their car accelerated very fast, left the curb and crashed into a building. We asked about if sudden acceleration could be investigated at this time but were told it couldn't. The car was totaled. My mom was injured (blunt force trauma to her chest) but recovered fairly soon after. She did go to the er. My dad, who was driving, was ok but following the accident was stressed due to worry about my mom's injury and having their car totaled since he was sure he hadn't done anything wrong. . The airbag did not deploy. My dad is sure he did not hit the gas by mistake and my mom agrees that he didn't hit the gas either.

The contact states while driving contact's son vehicle crashed. The left front tire blew out, and the vehicle crash. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. , there was one injury in the crash. The front end of the car was totaled. . The vehicle is a 1999 Toyota camary le. Th is a police report was taken. The at this point, Toyota has not been called. The mother did not have any of the information about the car that was in involved in the crash with her vehicle. The mother was enroute to the crash scene.

Contact owns a 1999 Toyota Camry. Vehicle was pulling into a little store. The contact went to pull into parking space when all of a sudden car accelerated and hit the building . Police was called but because it was on private property they didn't have to take a report. Passenger had to go to hospital after seat belt locked so tight that they checked her for internal injuries. Body was bruised badly. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy no fire reported. Vehicle was totaled.

Vehicle was hit in front by a another vehicle traveling approximately 60 mph and the air bags did not deploy, head, neck, back injuries occurred to driver and passenger.

The consumer's wife was driving when another vehicle pulled out in front of her, she then hit a utility pole and a fire hydrant with the front of vehicle. Upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy. The officer on the scene as well as firemen, were surprised that the airbags did not deploy. They told consumer that he should notify someone. The consumer noticed the airbag light on prior to the accident. Consumer said that nothing indicated that airbags or anything else should not be working correctly. No warning lights were on. Consumer has not had any problem like this before.

Complaint via e-mail. Had learned that NHTSA investigated sudden acceleration in the 2002 and 2003 Toyota Camry. I experienced this effect recently with my 1999 Camry. The incident took place inside the garage of my apartment building. Although no injuries occurred, my car and another car suffered some body damage. I took the car to a Toyota service center , but the technicians were unable to find anything that would explain the sudden acceleration. The consumer was backing into his parking space when the vehicle suddenly lurched forward. The brakes did not slow the vehicle. The consumer hit a post, bounced of it and hit a parked vehicle. The air bag did not deploy.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in a front impact collision at about 50 mph. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Consumer will contact manufacturer.

While driving another vehicle veered into consumer's vehicle lane, consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor, causing vehicle to collide into the guard rail and crash. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Driver sustained injuries. Vehicle was towed to the dealer.

While driving at 45 mph, another motorist pulled out in front of the consumer. The consumer t-boned the other motorist. The air bags failed to deploy upon impact. The consumer sustained a sternum and the passenger sustained severe back and neck injuries.

Vehicle struck dear at 65 mph. Upon impact, both air bags failed to deploy (crash destroyed the entire front of the car). No injuries reported. Dealer was not notified at that time.

When hit at 15mph in the front center of the vehicle air bags did not deploy. Dealer notified.

The vehicle hit a patch of black ice and went into a spin, the vehicle hit a highway sign, a fence, and then a tree, and the air bags failed to deploy, consumer suffered injuries.

Air bag failed to deploy.

While driving at 25 mph, the consumer fell asleep behind the wheel. The consumer lost control of the vehicle and struck another vehicle, then collided with a street light pole and subsequently the air bags did not deploy. The consumer broke her sternum and was hospitalized for a week. The consumer also had a grandson in the vehicle that broke two fingers in the accident. The police did arrive, but the consumer was not cited. The manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.

The vehicle was involved in a collision, and the front air bags failed to deploy. The driver was injured.

Air bag warning light flashes on/off acknowledging air bag will not deploy. The air bag warning light flashes on/off due to center sensor failure.

Driver and passenger airbags did not deploy following frontal collision with another vehicle which totalled our vehicle.

Driver and passenger front airbags failed to deploy when Camry hit another vehicle at an approximately 30 degree angle at an estimated 35 miles per hour. The passenger side front fender hit the driver's side front fender of the other car.

During an accident, air bags failed to deploy resulting in head and facial injuries to the driver, the vehicle was a total loss. Nlm.

In a frontal collision at 15-20 mph air bags did not deploy, causing injuries to driver and passenger. Dealer has inspected vehicle and will repair it.

Vehicle was involved in a right side frontal collision , speed was not determined. Upon impact, frontal air bags failed to deploy. Feel free to provide any further information.

Accelerator stuck , car shot forward, hitting townhouse on street. Airbags did not deploy.

I was driving sountbound with 2 other passengers, we were all belted in. A car in the northbound lane cut across traffic into our southbound lane at that time I had no where to move so I applied my brakes her car proceeded to accelerate to apprx 40-45 mph and hit us head on. We had injuries bruises, neck injuries and the worst a broken sternum. At know time did our airbags deploy during this accident. I have contacted Toyota corporation and they said we were not hit hard enough for the airbags to deploy end of dicussion. Toyota has given us the cold shoulder and more or less not to bother them about this. I would like to know how come if we were hit so hard the airbags did not deploy. The police at the scene along with others were also concerned about the airbags not deploying and also they informed not to get into the car because the airbags could deploy at any time. The autobody shop is also concerned with the airbags but Toyota will not return their calls. If you could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, cyndy pitassi.

Vehicle was involved in an head-on collision at 25 mph. There was exstensive front end damage, but air bags did not deploy. Toyota has been contacted.

While traveling about 5-10 mph consumer was involved in a head-on collision,and air bags did not deploy. Contacted manufacturer, and manufacturer gave consumer telephone number to their attorney.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. Manufacturer has been notified.

Airbags failed to deploy in a crash to destroyed the entire front of the car.

Vehicle struck a utility pole head-on at 50 mph. Upon impact, both air bags failed to deploy. No injuries was reported. Dealer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide addtional details.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 45mph, and the airbags did not deploy. Also, seat belt did not retract, resulting in minor injuries. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

While driving on the higway at about 70 mph consumer hydroplaned into a spin and hit a wall head-on, consumer was thrown from the wall into a tractor trailor. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Dealer said consumer did not hit hard enough.

While making a turn at a light signal another driver ran a red light and hit the driver's side of the car at the left front air bag censor at about 50-57 mph. Air bags did not deploy.
