Nine problems related to air bag have been reported for the 1999 Toyota Camry. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Nothing happened yet, since I cannot know for sure if these are bad air bags since car was in accident and repaired with replacement air bags in past, so no way to find out unless Toyota pays to check them first and maybe replaced. Worried that replacement air bag are defective or dangerous no one is addressing this issue why??? my replacements need to be checked by serial number???.
I only had my 1999 Camry for 5 days. I was driving on the expressway doing about 35 mph. I was going around a slight curve when the wheel locked and I couldn't turn. I tried to stop but couldn't and ran directly into the concrete median causing me to spin around and then hit the median again. Both air bags came out and my car was towed to a lot where it was declared "totaled. " no one or any other property was damaged. I had my car for only 5 days and it malfunctioned.
I was driving on expressway doing about 35 mph when the steering wheel locked as I driving around a curve. I drove into the left cement barrier, car spun around and hit the barrier again. I just purchased the car and didn't even have it for 5 days! the car was towed and salvaged.
I was at a standstill and rearended by another driver going aproximately 50 mph and he did not brake. The seat belt did not engage nor did the airbags. Both cars totaled. Trunk hood popped, also rear panels bent. I sustained a head injury either on windshield or steering wheel . My firm belief is the seatbelt should have engaged and avoided the head injury.
My daughter was driving 1999 Toyota Camry solara. When crossing highway at intersection, the car hesitated on acceleration and she was struck on the passenger side rear. She states she had plenty of time to cross but "the car just wouldn't go". Also, despite impacts from several angles, no airbags deployed.
Consumer was involved in an accident where the vehicle was struck from the front and rear, however the airbags experienced no deployment.
Vehicle was involved in an accident when there was a brake failure, dealer found the calipers to be defective and replaced the brake pads, rotors, and calipers, in the accident, the airbags experienced no deployment and the seatbelts did not work, passenger sustained injuries.
The vehicles air bag failed.
