Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and an abnormal sound emitted from a unknown place. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the alternator pulley detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of failure and the contact was advised that the VIN was not included in recall NHTSA campaign id number: 11v539000 (engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Pam.
2005 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine being defective. The check engine light illuminated. A diagnosis revealed water was in the engine and it would need to be replaced at a cost of $1,858. 33 the consumer was informed, the heads could not be removed, because of an engine defect. The screws on the manifold or heads were coming loose and that's how water entered the engine, and the head gasket had blown. The consumer stated about a month ago, she started having problems with the vehicle. She was informed the ignition needed to be replaced. Also, the water pump, and alternator were replaced. The air compressor and heater sensor element failed. Updated 05/12/14.
When driving on highway, there was some noise coming from the engine compartment, and suddenly I lost power steering and lights flashed on the front panel. I managed hard to pull off the vehicle from the highway, it was so hard make turns to the ramp. The engine temperature started to fluctuate. There was little smoking come out, I had to stop there. It was turned out there was a belt fell out and my alternator eventually died. My car is 4-cylinder, not 6.
The retaining nut for the alternator pulley came off the shaft causing the pulley to wobble which led to the loss of the serpentine belt; without the belt I lost power steering, the battery began to run low and the engine started to overheat. Fortunately I was 2 miles from home and was able to make it there w/o any damage to the vehicle. The vehicle was still under warranty, ~19,000 miles on the odometer, and was repaired by the dealer. The belt and the alternator assembly were replaced.
