Ignition problems of the 2005 Toyota Camry

1 Ignition problem

2005 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine being defective. The check engine light illuminated. A diagnosis revealed water was in the engine and it would need to be replaced at a cost of $1,858. 33 the consumer was informed, the heads could not be removed, because of an engine defect. The screws on the manifold or heads were coming loose and that's how water entered the engine, and the head gasket had blown. The consumer stated about a month ago, she started having problems with the vehicle. She was informed the ignition needed to be replaced. Also, the water pump, and alternator were replaced. The air compressor and heater sensor element failed. Updated 05/12/14.

2 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2012

Car was parked in driveway. The key was removed from ignition. The car drifted down the driveway in reverse into a tree, causing approximately $7000 in damage to car. Testing of the car later revealed that the key could be removed from ignition when the car was not in park. Toyota is currently investigating. The consumer stated the vehicle was inspected and later returned to him. He assumed the vehicle had been repaired. There was no mention of the inspection or what had been done to his vehicle. On may 27th, the consumer's wife was driving and she noticed the vehicle suddenly downshifted into second gear. The consumer checked the vehicle and noticed the ignition and transmission problem occurred again. The consumer received a letter outlining the problem was due to spilled soda that caused the ignition interlock system to stick. Updated ivoq 07/03/12.

3 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. While the vehicle was parked he was able to remove the key from the ignition without shutting the engine off. The engine remained on until he put the key back into the ignition to shut it off. The vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 75,000. The VIN was unavailable.
