1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2023

My engine has a sludge of oil and it was expensive to repair. The convertible top n windows malfunction and the electrical system stopped the windows from rolling up n down and out of no where they go down on their own,so I have many problems when it rains due to the windows.

2 Electrical System problem

Takata recalled on the highways my shaking and didn't want to stop.

Driver side door window control panel caught fire while the car was unattended. In our garage. Burned the door panel and front seat.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

Gears not working.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

My passenger airbag indicator was illuminating the "off" light when an adult was seated in my passenger seat. Diagnostics done at a Toyota dealership indicated I needed a new occupant detection ecu. It failed for unknown reasons. This was a $670 fix. They installed a new one and it did not work. They then installed another one, which did not work properly either. Finally, they installed a third one and it wasn't working properly either. I was told by the service guy that they were using parts that had "returned" stickers on the box and had already been opened. I was told that genuine, new parts were what I was being quoted for, but the service technician clearly stated that they were trying to install parts into my vehicle that had been returned for some reason. I am very concerned that Toyota is installing parts into my vehicle that were found to be defective in other vehicles. . ? I am also very concerned that the sensors that are supposed to activate the airbag, which is a vital safety feature, are not working. This is not something that should stop working in a vehicle of this age and mileage.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

Issue with ignition also occurred on Aug 26, 2014. When key is removed from ignition engine continues to run and can be driven without using the key. I called Toyota dealership and they will charge $90 per hour to investigate. Called Toyota headquarters after seeing gm ignition recall for the same issue and they said that my car doesn't have a recall for this issue. After it happened again today decided to see if this is a broader issue similar to gm's.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

I also have a 2005 Toyota solara with this same problem. Remote wireless door lock will only unlock drivers door and electric door lock on drivers door will only lock passenger doors all doors must be unlocked by hand. This is an on going problem with Camrys and Toyota needs to recall these cars as they did in the past and fix the lock problems.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My car experiences a lag between the time when I press the gas pedal and when the car actually starts to move. The lag can last up to 2 seconds and presents a critical safety issue which has led to couple of near miss accidents in intersections and changing lanes. This feels like it would if your car stalled in the middle of the intersection and then the light changed or accelerate to change lanes while it trys to flow with the traffic. A technical service bulletin was issued for certain VIN solaras which reflashed the ecu to a new program in an effort to reduce the lag but my car is not under this issue. I also find out that many of other solara owners said this was not an effective corrective action. Toyota has no solution at this time and this puts my and others' safety at risk.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2012

The electric driver side mirror quit operating. It first quit moving up and down and now it will not move side to side. Appears to be a short from an electrical defect.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2011

I stopped my car at my mailbox at the foot of my 45% incline short driveway and put it in park with the engine running. After getting out to get my mail, I re-entered the car, put the car in drive, and touched the accelerator. The car engine "roared" more loudly than I had ever heard and lunged forward uphill towards my brick home. I slammed the brake pedal one time as hard as I could and the car stopped. I had not expected it to stop. There was not collision, but thank god I did not kill or injure some innocent person or myself. I now refuse to drive the car, which is a real problem for me and my family. I understand your agency has failed to force Toyota to include the 2005 model in your recall to install new braking system override. This is unconscionable.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

My vehicle was idling in my driveway when it caught on fire, mechanic stated it was a defective fuel injector.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2011

The contact owned a 2005 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, he noticed a burning odor. Another driver noticed flames coming from under the hood on the passenger side and alerted the contact. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but the brakes would not respond after depressing the brake pedal continuously. The contact jumped out of the vehicle and the vehicle came to a stop when it crashed into the divider on the road. The contact sustained severe scrapes to her left foot, legs, and arms. The contact was then transported to the hospital for treatment. After being released, the contact suffered muscle spasms and was rushed back to the hospital for further treatment. The fire and police departments reported to the scene and reports were filed. The vehicle was towed to a junk yard where the insurance company inspected the vehicle and determined that the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an inspector to determine the cause of the fire. The manufacturer stated that the cause of the fire was undetermined, but the representative stated that there was corrosion found on the air conditioner hose. The manufacturer would not supply the customer with the investigation report. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

2005 Camry le, 53,000 miles. Car stalled, engine died, ckeck engine light came on. Results of check up. Throttle control body failure. What??? why???.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

Accleration failed on 2005 Camry. Could have been killed by cars behind me, had enough coast to get to next exit. Called Toyota about the repair and they said no recall, and there should be. If Toyota would have fixed it, it would have been over $1500. 00, so we had it towed to a repair shop and the repair was $454. 00 and loss of car for 7 days. The diagnosis was the digital throttle was bad. You could push the peddel all the way to the floor with no response. Imagine being out on the interstate and this happens. I only have 84,500 on this car and this happens. Very concened about this on the Camry. There should be a recall on this as well. Diagnosis check was ran and the repair shop will be glad to provide any information you may need. Just glad that I was not killed.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2009

Car located in omaha, ne, being driven east from 42nd and curtis avenue, downhill at approximately 41st and curtis Ave (car speed up on level area to compensate for the computer systems ability to slow the car down or prevent coasting), my 2005 Toyota se hit a parked car, airbags deployed and the car continued to drive an additional block after the brakes were applied. Car hit a dirt road/ditch and bounced and landed into a private yard located on the southeast side of the road. The hill in the private yard stopped the car from continuing on.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry xle. I had two instanaces of spontaneous acceleration. /oth happened when my foot was on the brake pedal and had been on the brake pedal. There was no sticking accelerator involved. We brought the car to the Toyota dealership in berlin vt. The mechanics hooked the car to their computer diagnositics and replaced an " electonic sensor" and I have never had the problem since. This happened around June of 09. I would think that the dealership should have records of this repair. It is hard to believe that that this is unrelated to the present problem. My car year was not in the recall.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2009

I have a 2005 Camry. I know it is not part of the recall, but for the past 2-3 years I have had this sporadic problem. When I am stopped at a stop light sometimes it surges forward. . . Not always a lot, but sometimes quite hard. I started keeping track and it doesn't matter if it is cold engine or warm engine. Then just the other day my radio shut off and the interior lights while I was driving, and came back on within a few seconds. Because it is so sporadic, like it will do it for 2-3 days and then not for 2-3 days, to have someone check it they said I would have to leave it in the shop and I need a car to go to work. To have it checked involves a lot of time and money according to the dealership. I don't know what the problem is, but it seems like it must be electrical. . . How do I know????.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I purchased a certified used Toyota car (vehicle VIN: [xxx]) on 12/22/2008 from fremont Toyota dealer ([xxx]), which leads a nightmare as it's a wrecked cert. Rejected car with 2 tire valve stems broken on day 1 and day 8 after purchase and another 2 tires flat again on may 10 1. The rear right tire valve stem broke on 12/23/2008 (the first day after purchase) and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator (tpws) was on so I drove the car to the service department on 12/24/2008. Dealer claim they fixed the problem and also checked all the other tires and make sure they are working. 2. On 1/1/2009, the front right tire valve stem broke again and the tpws was not on. This happened when we drove on highway 5 at 75 miles/hour and we don't even know the tire already 2/3 was flattened!! we happened to look for restaurant at that time and a person coming out of restaurant pointed to us this flat tire! if we did not exit for rest, all 5 passengers in the car could no longer be in this world now. 3. Further complete discovery on this car reveals: a. Bondo was applied on the following areas: left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening area the amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. B. Sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job. The re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. This matches kearny mesa Toyota's 160 point rejection. C. The paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported. The faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry. D. The right fender was previously removed. And more.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. While coasting around a corner at 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly began accelerating on its own. The contact applied the brakes, but the vehicle did not respond. The vehicle rear ended the preceding vehicle. There were no injuries. Five days prior to the failure, while driving 25 mph, the cruise control engaged by itself. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 30,100. Updated 10/14/08 the consumer stated weeks before the accident, there were problems with the electrical system. Updated 10/15/08.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2006

The second generation Toyota solara uses "drive by wire" technology instead of a throttle cable. My car experiences a lag between the time when I press the gas pedal and when the car actually starts to move. This happens in a specific scenario where the car is decelerating, but then the driver resumes accelerating. The lag can last up to 2 seconds and presents a critical safety issue which has led to three near miss accidents in intersections for me. This feels like it would if your car stalled in the middle of the intersection and then the light changed. A technical service bulletin was issued for certain VIN solaras which reflashed the ecu to a new program in an effort to reduce the lag. This was not an effective corrective action. Toyota has no solution at this time and this puts my safety at risk. ,.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2005

- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Camry. While driving approximately 5 mph into the driveway, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into pellets of stone. There was no personal injury. The front passenger fender sustained damages. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired for the body damage. The technician stated the failure was contributed to driver error associated to an accidental engagement of the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle alarm system activated without assistance spontaneously causing the power doors not to lock. The authorized dealer was unable to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, and the contact was waiting a response. The failure mileage was 2,000. The current mileage was 20,000. The VIN was unknown.
