Car was parked in driveway. The key was removed from ignition. The car drifted down the driveway in reverse into a tree, causing approximately $7000 in damage to car. Testing of the car later revealed that the key could be removed from ignition when the car was not in park. Toyota is currently investigating. The consumer stated the vehicle was inspected and later returned to him. He assumed the vehicle had been repaired. There was no mention of the inspection or what had been done to his vehicle. On may 27th, the consumer's wife was driving and she noticed the vehicle suddenly downshifted into second gear. The consumer checked the vehicle and noticed the ignition and transmission problem occurred again. The consumer received a letter outlining the problem was due to spilled soda that caused the ignition interlock system to stick. Updated ivoq 07/03/12.
I have a 2005 Toyota Camry and I have been complaining about the transmission shifting since about 6 months after I bought it. They told me that they would reflash the computer that controls it and that should fix the problem. It has not. Am I going to have a run away vehicle next? the car drags and then goes fast. They did not seem to do anything, but give me lip service.
I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and since I bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . For example when I stop at a traffic light and I begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and I could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . Another problem that I have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after I get a bump I have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. Also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,I even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. All this complaint was given to Toyota in priors calls I made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong.
I have a 2005 Camry. The car started off fine and within a minute it did not accelerate even with the gas pedal down all the way. The engine check light was on and I let it idle for 10 mins. It started running fine and there was no longer the check engine light. Now the car was able to accelerate. 4 days later, I stopped at a traffic light and made a turn to the left and the car slowed down and did not accelerate thereafter.
Constant "jumping" at stoplights. I always have to check to see if someone has bumped into me from behind. This has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the car in 2005.
Driving on snow packed roads to salt lake city. At around 65 miles of driving the transmission went out in my Toyota Camry. We had no warning at all, until the car woud no longer drive and the inside was filling up with smoke. We had to have the Camry towed to a repair shop and then towed back to vernal ut. We took it to a transmission repiar shop and they told us, that a rod had come out of the transmission and the only way it would do that, is to go from a wet road to a dry road. We were on snowy roads the whole time. We have not replaced the transmission, since it will cost us nearly $5,0000. We don't have that kind of money and it is not our fault. We feel that this is a manufactor defect on the transmission. Now I have a 2005 Camry, that I can not drive and am still paying for. If we would have had any indications of the transmission going, we would have taken care of it. But as I said we had no warning. The car just quit going.
I have been a loyal Toyota owner for 20 years and I would like to tell you about my latest experience with my 2005 Toyota Camry. After 91,000 miles, I needed to get a new transmission. I typically drove my Toyota to 150,000 miles and never had any problems with the power train. I contacted Toyota customer service, they initially said they might be able to help me but never followed up. I tried to contact customer service, but could not get through. I recently had my car repaired for $3300 at aamco to get it drivable. They had to fix the transmission and the wiring to get the car working again. Several electrical connectivity issues existing; and still remain. The only good news was the ecm was operating correctly. Now that aamco fixed my car, ive noticed that my cars about 400 - 600 rpm lower than before. Other problem with the car include dash lights going out after 4 â½ years. Clearly this is not a good situation when it takes several hundred dollars of labor to replace a $2 light bulb. The lights that are out are the fan speed, heat dial and the lights on the dashboard for the shift indicator. I believe there is an electrical issues with the 2005 Toyota Camry that also need investigation.
Sudden acceleration of a 2005 Toyota Camry solara from a slow moving turn into a parking space.
2005 Toyota Camry, 39,000 miles. Have had all historical service done at Toyota dealerships, so everything that needs to be done over the years has been done to maintain vehicle. Car stalling constantly. Needs new throttle body, $1200 to fix. For a college student, I don't think so. But, have to get it replaced if I want to drive my car. This problem is sited all over the internet in Camrys. Toyota really needs to step up to the plate.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I purchased a certified used Toyota car (vehicle VIN: [xxx]) on 12/22/2008 from fremont Toyota dealer ([xxx]), which leads a nightmare as it's a wrecked cert. Rejected car with 2 tire valve stems broken on day 1 and day 8 after purchase and another 2 tires flat again on may 10 1. The rear right tire valve stem broke on 12/23/2008 (the first day after purchase) and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator (tpws) was on so I drove the car to the service department on 12/24/2008. Dealer claim they fixed the problem and also checked all the other tires and make sure they are working. 2. On 1/1/2009, the front right tire valve stem broke again and the tpws was not on. This happened when we drove on highway 5 at 75 miles/hour and we don't even know the tire already 2/3 was flattened!! we happened to look for restaurant at that time and a person coming out of restaurant pointed to us this flat tire! if we did not exit for rest, all 5 passengers in the car could no longer be in this world now. 3. Further complete discovery on this car reveals: a. Bondo was applied on the following areas: left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening area the amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. B. Sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job. The re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. This matches kearny mesa Toyota's 160 point rejection. C. The paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported. The faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry. D. The right fender was previously removed. And more.
2005 Camry delays, then lurches forward, when accelerating from under 10 mph. When car is driven above 10 mph then is decelerated to under 10 (I. E. To make left turn) then accelerated, the engine will rev and after a . 25 to . 5 second delay the transmission catches and throws the car forward.
I have a 2005 Toyota Camry se v6 3. 3l . 31,000 miles. Purchased new. Since new this vehicle has had an intermittent problem with the transmission shifting. It seems to get confused on what gear to shift into when you let off the accelerator at speeds between 20 and 45. You can feel the transmission jump back and forth between gears. It is not suttle at all. It feels like the trans is on its way out. I know quite a bit about cars, enough to know eventually this trans will fail if it continues to have this problem. This car like many other newer vehicle shifts when the computer tells it to, and it also has what they call "throttle by wire" acceleration control, which means the acceleration is also controlled by computer and not by a cable connected to the pedal like cars always had been. I believe the combination of these two things is exactly what causes this problem. Twice I have talked to someone at the dealer. Once they told me some vehicles VIN #'s are qualified for a computer software upgrade to resolve this issue and others VIN#'s are not. Today I called and the service guy and he told me there is no such recall at all and he hasn't had anyone complain about this issue. Also, my mom has a 2006 v6 Camry and has the exact same problem with her car. I have driven it. Exact same thing. So far that is 2 for 2. Aamco looked at my trans fluid today and said it looked unusually dirty and is beginning to burn which will eventually cause complete failure. Aamco can do warranty work. They are more willing to find a real problem with your transmission. The dealer does not want fix you trans under warranty!.
Hesitation in acceleration after depression of accelerator. Car will eventually respond but only after a second or two. Upon pulling into a parking space with the intent of moving slowly up to the bumper curb it can suddenly surge (jump) ahead uncontrollably. If the driver is waiting in a left hand turn lane awaiting for time to make a safe turn in front of oncoming traffic it is very dangerous to assume that your car will proceed when applying the accelerator so that you can proceed through the turn in front of the traffic or will the car hesitate momentarily and then surge ahead just in time to be broadsided by the oncoming car. This car is dangerous!! I do not want anyone to be forced to drive this car. . We have had two incidents in parking spaces where the car has surged ahead and we caused damage in on case to the car in the opposing space where we bumped a shopping cart into the opposing car. That one caused damage to the car that we hit which we paid for and damage to our car. The second time my while moving into a parking space with a sign at the end of the space we surged into the sign causing $700 worth of damage to our car. I have had three trips to the Toyota dealer where they informed me that the car is performing to specifications. They could only state that they thought it might be driver error. I even went to arbitration with the same result. I simply do not buy this result. I also own a '07 ranger which performs perfectly and my driving habits are exactly the same in both vehicles.
I purchased a 2005 Toyota Camry xle- 6 cylinder, new in fall of 2004. At present I have under 22,000 miles on it. During my limited driving of this vehicle I have experienced at least 5 episodes of unintended acceleration. I recently discovered that another family member had a similar experience while driving my car. The last experience happened on 12/16/09. I had a passenger in the car with me at the time. Each episode is more violent than previous ones. I have had the car looked at thoroughly by the local Toyota dealer. The first time they looked at it was July 6/09. Since they cannot "make it happen" they said, they don't know how to fix it. Since Toyota announced problems I have called them on 2 occasions and have 2 case numbers assigned. The car was last examined by the dealer on 12/22/09. I was told to wait until the recall was official and see if 2005 Camrys were added to the list. They have not been. The car is setting in my garage and hasn't been driven since 12/22/09. I hate to think what might have happened had I driven this car as much as I did my previous Camry, a 1994 with well over 200,000 miles at present.
He has been experiencing problem either with the transmission or the accelerator. When he start to accelerate sometimes, usually in low speed, 20% to 40% of the time, there is a few seconds the car does not respond, and suddenly he feel a jolt and the car jumps violently. He has to look back whenever it happens to see if someone has crash in to his car. If there is a car infront of him while in traffic, this could lead potential car accident of hitting the car infront of him. He also has to make sure he does not park too close to other cars or the wall. I have help him reported the issue to dealer 2 times many months ago and they said they can not fix the problem if they can't feel the problem. I have also told the headquarter I found numerous complaints on the same hesitation/acceleration problem my father experiencing and I noticed Toyota have been telling other people same response that dealer can not fix the problem if dealer can not feel the problem, and dealer have been telling people this is normal behavior for those who revisited many times. There are hundreds of complaints about this issue if you go search on google (using keyward Toyota camery transmission problem). . Read more...
2005 Toyota Camry failure is in the nature of delayed transmission response. Incidents happen at around 25-40mph, mainly while coasting in heavy traffic, also while in process of slow acceleration while changing lanes. Vehicle drops in speed/delays and then lunges, many times making a strong kick/jerk before allowing completion of lane change or acceleration. Has caused quite a few close calls while merging into lanes. Also, very delayed response while taking off from a stop sign or coasting through at slow speeds at an intersection, car delays shifting. Revs to the 3rpm mark while still stuck at 15mph. Dealer does not help with warranty b/c they "can't feel the problem" when test driving. Have gotten the response "that it is a normal function".
2005 Toyota Camry xle--beginning in March 2007 my Camry began to accelerate from a stopped position. My Camry would take off at high speeds from a complete stop and applying the gas pedal. This occurred several times. I took my car to my dealer bill page Toyota in falls church, va. The first time the acceleration occurred was after 2 years and in March 2007. I was on constitution avenue, right lane in DC--which either turns right or goes straight. Constitution avenue is 3 or 4 lanes each east and westbound--I was heading eastbound. When the light turned green, the car in front of me turned right, thank goodness because as I took my foot off the brake and unto the gas, my car shot forward so fast my brakes wouldn't stop my car. Upon slamming on the brakes which were shuddering so badly, I thought my car was never going to stop and hit the next car (rush hour). I stopped short of hitting that car. I was so scared. My service manager said couldn't reproduce and that there was nothing wrong with my brakes or car. He told me that the shuttering is normal when I slam on my brakes--a safety feature to stop the car. Computer said nothing wrong. Had the acceleration problem at least 3 more times. I was at a parking meter, 1st space. Got into my car, turned on the key, released my emergency brake, and took my foot off the brake and unto the gas. I wanted to make a right turn. There were 2 people on the sidewalk, and thankfully they did not walk in front of my car--I would have run over them. My car took off so fast from a stopped position that I had a hard time stopping my car. I immediately took my 2005 Camry to the dealer. Again service manager told me computer says there is nothing wrong with my car--think computer/software glitch. Last week Toyota corp said won't fix b/c not on recall and only intermittent, which is the problem. Told me I own the car, it's out of warranty won't pay to fix. Help! when driving it's like russian roulette!.
The automobile consistently hesitates when depressing the accelerator. This occurs when leaving stop signs, merging at medium speeds and passing on 2-way or divided highways and accelerating after decelerating. It then over accelerates when it makes up its mind you want to go faster after a second or two. Toyota claims the car works as designed. I fear for my life in this automobile, since the other drivers do not realize that this car is a piece of junk.
Vehicle surges, revs when accelerating, stalls when decelerating, have had problem since car was new. Now 19 months old. Returned to dealer multiple times. They acknowledge the problem, Toyota acknowledges the problem. "within design parameters" they say. Two contacts with Toyota h. O. Rep. Actually called it a "design defect". Told me to "pat the acclerator" when I have the problem. Also told me "multiple drivers" will help the car perform better. The vehicle is dangerous and untrustworthy. Thousands of others have the same problem. No fix as this truly is a design defect, "drive by wire" scheme. Will anyone with clout step up? paid $30000 for the vehicle. V6 xle. Junk. Everyone admits the problem, no one assumes the responsibility.
While entering a parking space the vehicle surged forward without provocation, crashing into a concrete barrier which thankfully stopped the forward motion. I don't know if related, but the vehicle has a history of hesitation and rough sequencing through gears of the automatic transmission. Advised by manufacturer this is a wireless transmission, and that there was a software update, installed 1/27/06. Condition continued thereafter though never anything approaching this. Speed at incident difficult to know and component failure best guess.
Throttle lag at low speed and from stop is inconsistent and has been the cause for several close calls when pulling into traffic. Manufacturer was informed; dealer investigated; states this is normal and nothing can be done, that lag is "acceptable". Some instances have been several seconds before actual throttle response. Driver has to use harder acceleration to compensate when this happens. This is a safety issue that Toyota is aware of but declines to admit it is a problem. Driver is very concerned that this issue will be cause of an accident.
Numerous occasions of unexplained acceleration and were reported to Toyota who reported could not find a problem. Numerous occasions of braking problems and were reported to Toyota who reported could not find a problem. Numerous occasions of steering problems and were reported to Toyota who reported could not find a problem. Numerous occasions of transmission problems and were reported to Toyota who reported could not find a problem. Vehicle was returned to Toyota under CA lemon law in 2006 or 2007.
Acceleration hesitation while pulling out into traffic or merging into traffic on the highway.
Consumer 2005 Camry has a problems with the transmission. The consumer stated from a stopped position, about 20% of the time , the first two transmission shifts will extend beyond a normal time period while the car's engine revs to about 3000 rpms. At times, when slowing to about 10 to 20 mph and then accelerating, about 80% of the time the transmission would hesitate for 2 to 3 seconds while it selects a gear and will then engage, sometimes in a harsh manner depending upon the pressure on the gas pedal. There was no specific time when the erratic shifts would occur.
: the contact stated at speeds between 24 and 30 mph, the vehicle, intermittently, lost power then slammed into gear. The dealership did acknowledge there was a problem, but stated installing a new transmission was no guarantee that the problem would cease. Updated 03/28/06.
2005 Toyota Camry. Consumer sent additional correspondence related to transmission and driver side window issues. Note consumer has previous correspondence in the system under odi 10186844 the consumer stated while test driving the vehicle with the technician, the transmission hesitated on acceleration and slipped a few times. After waiting for the vehicle for about 45 minutes, the technician could not find anything wrong.
Transmission hesitation when pressing gas pedal. After 2 or 3 seconds the car then lurches forward violently. This nearly caused an accident as I attempted to pass another vehicle. This is a widely known defect that will cause many accidents if not corrected very soon.
I had my new 2005 Camry into the dealership (longo Toyota, el monte, CA) three times in the first month after I purchased it. I explained that there was a major surge in acceleration while breaking. I also had problems with my car ?jumping? forward while at a complete stop, and another issue with a lag in acceleration. All three of these issues have happened more times than I can count. There have been many times that I haven't been able to accelerate at first, only to find myself trying to brake (and not succeeding) as soon as the accelerator kicks in seconds later, sending the car surging forward. I've taken the car in to the dealership, and each time I was told that there was no problem - that whatever my issue might be, it could not?t be replicated, and that any ?timing? concern was only the electronic throttle ? and that this was completely normal. The issues with the Camry?s acceleration & electronic throttle are incredibly dangerous, and were almost the cause of a major accident (my 3 year old son was in the car at the time), and countless other minor near-accidents. I am a safe, 33 year old female driver with 17 years of driving-experience, and only one accident on my record (a man rear-ended me on the freeway in 2003). Toyota is such a popular brand, and if there are other Camry owners, then none of us are safe. How many people have to be injured or die before Toyota owns up to their mistake? I continue to see recalls for other Toyota cars, and hope beyond hope that one day my 2005 Camry se will also be recalled.
While parking car and applying brake, vehicle continued to slowly accelerate and pushed in a tin wall housing the furnance room of a gym. Car rested on the furnance and a gas line. Toyota dist. Manager said he couldn't find any defects and couldn't duplicate problem so said their hands were tied. Nothing done.
I bought a brand new 2005 4-cylinder Camry in 2004 after owing a 1988 with 256,000 miles and being extremely happy with it. However, I was dissatisfied with my new Camry only after having it for a week when I started noticing how it would hesitate from taking off from a dead stop and when turning corners. I still canã‚??t figure what turning corners has to do with speed. I had to change my driving habits because it was getting dangerous. I now have to allow longer a few more seconds to turn in front of traffic, in case it hesitates since it doesn't do this consistently. I took it in to Toyota, the dealer I bought it from, 60 miles from where I live, twice and they couldn't seem to find the problem. They seemed to know of the problem, due to others reporting it and them sensing it themselves, but just acknowledged it wasn't an issue to be fixed. They gave us the name of their customer relations representative in California to contact, which we did. When first contacting him, he too made it sound like it was very important and he would immediately take care of this issue and get back with us. The next thing we heard from him was the same thing we had already heard, this isn't a problem, this is normal, there is nothing we can do for you. This may not be problem for them but it is for me and it sure sounds like it is a problem for an awful lot of others out there that are complaining on this website too. You ask what has been done to correct the failure, nothing by Toyota!!!.
I bought a new 2005 Toyota Camry se 3. 3 5 speed auto. It has a hesitation when accelerating from a slow down. When trying to merge it is very unnerving. The check engine light came on the first 3000 miles and a air/fuel sensor was replaced. The hesitation is still not predictable and still occurs. A sulfur smell sometimes occurs also.
Purchased a 2005 Toyota Camry le and I am experiencing the exact same transmission problems. At about 24-30 mph it will rev to about 3000-4000 rpms before it switches to 2nd gear. Also when slowing down the car will jerk into gear. On the highway when trying to pass cars it will just ignore my request for about 3 seconds. This is a dangerous car!!! took to dealer and they stated it is working as designed. This is not acceptable and Toyota needs to do something about it before someone gets killed. Jb.
Traveling down hill at approximately 45 mph just slightly pressing the brake pedal vehicle will down shift and jurk steering wheel. If conditions where right I may loose control. This has happened numerous times. Spoke to several dealers and they say it is normal.
On 5/27/05 while driving and after stopping the accelerator would hesitate, then the transmission would jerk into gear. Problem was intermittent. Cannot make a left hand turn or right hand turn becuase the car hesitates so much it wont go. Took car to dealer, and delaer reported that the problem was normal. Dealer reported nothing could be done. Toyota reported they were looking at the problem and will report any developments.
Car continually hesitates then surges forward especially at speeds below 40 mph and also when ac is on. Dealer has no fix. I provided printout of NHTSA reports but I was told that's just the way the car is. No choice but to get rid of this new car.
