1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

I, robert, was sitting in the car when my wife came out of the store and got into it. I put my foot on the brake and started the car. It took off at a very high rate of speed. The car lunged ahead and steadily picked up speed. The car hit a lady walking with her groceries, then hit a parked vehicle and pushed it into another vehicle. The air bag never deployed. The brakes would not work. The only thing that made it stop was that it hit a large SUV. My wife did not have time to fasten her seat belt, thus sustaining injuries. It all happened in a matter of seconds. There was a police report filed. I was not charged with the accident. I purchased the vehicle on may 24, 2017 at a public auction in washington, DC. That means that these vehicles are still being sold as if there is not a problem with them. The vehicle had about 240,000 miles when I purchased it. When we checked the internet, we found that there were hundreds of complaints. Beware!!!.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2012

While driving my 05 Toyota Camry(which has 51k miles on it) in the morning to work, my car at first wasn't giving any gas into the engine and it wouldn't start. My CO-workers were able to jump start my car and I was able to drive to the dealership after going to auto-zone and a local body shop who were unsure of the issue. The dealership told me after the diagnosis, the throttle body needs to be replaced due to it being "faulty" and clogs up due to moisture getting into the valves. The total cost for the part itself + labor and taxes totaled 1155. 99! up until now, I haven't had any issue with the car except this. This is a serious issue if it does not get resolved. What would happen if I was on a highway driving at the speed limits? what would happen if this stalled on a busy intersection? please talk to Toyota about this issue!.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

Lag time on accelerating, also when coming to a stop does not downshift smoothly and properly, rather it stutters and clunks. This has been an ongoing problem for years. The vehicle is stationary as well as in motion at any speed there is a hesitation before accelerating. Stopping the vehicle fails to down shift in a smooth decline of gears. Possible electronic problem with the breaking ! possible electronic accelerator unit !.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

2005 Toyota Camry le. Approximately 1 to 2 seconds after shifting into reverse, engine went into high rpm and accelerated out of garage. Driver already had foot on brake pedal and braked hard leaving skid mark (from right front tire) of approximately 24 - 30 inches in length on coated garage floor. Right side mirror was ripped from car. Required approx. 10 feet to stop. Engine did not remain at high rpm. (a/c may have been "on". Engine was "cold" - I. E. , 1st time started that day; however ambient temperature was in mid-upper 70's. ) later that same morning, the engine again went to high rpm shortly after shifting into reverse to back out of parking space. Driver was prepared and able to immediately stop car. Air conditioning was not engaged this time. Took car to original dealer same day. Dealer states no fault codes in computer. "some" carbon build up on throttle body. Performed safety check inspection. Serviced/cleaned throttle body, fuel injectors, replaced transmission fluid, and cleaned/adjusted rear brakes. In the 3 days since the original incidents and service, phenomenon has not repeated. Car has approx. 62kmiles and has received all warranty and regular, prescribed service at original dealer on schedule. Car has had no major repairs during its history.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and since I bought it from the dealer it had been having problems with the automatic transmission system and the accelerator . For example when I stop at a traffic light and I begin to accelerate the car takes to long to shift to the next gear and while this time elapses for about 2 to 4 seconds the car keeps accelerating with no gear at all, this almost make me crash the other day trying to avoid a collision with an aggressive driver that got in my way and I could not advance with the car at that crucial moment and get out of the way of the situation since the gear was not ready for me to accelerate and advance . Another problem that I have been noticing is that while at low to medium speeds the abs braking system fails to brake the car after it gets over a bump in the road; several times it had happened to me that after I get a bump I have to apply the brakes 2 to 3 times in a rapid succession to come to a complete stop. Also sometimes while driving at low speeds with low rpms the car stalls without warning and the wheel gets very hard to maneuver ,I even have to stop the car in the middle of the road to start the engine again and continue with my trip. All this complaint was given to Toyota in priors calls I made to them but the dealers they send me to see said that was normal operation of the car ,that there was nothing wrong.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

On or about Jan. 25, 2010, I was parking my 2005 Toyota Camry on the street in front if my house. As I put it into reverse to back into the parking space, it suddenly surged backward incredibly fast. The only thing that stopped it was the car parked behind me. No damage was visible on the other car; but my bumper was scratched and cracked. It scared me.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2009

Own a 2005 Toyota Camry xle v6. Transmission hesitation, heated seats work occasionally, most power windows don't operate properly, and lots of squeaks and rattles. Vehicle only has 25,000 miles, very well maintained. Dealer says that all problems are normal. I bought a Toyota because they were supposed to be the best. This was the first import car for me, and will be the last. I will be returning to Ford. I never had any problems like this on my taurus with 200,000 miles.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2008

My wife was driving at a speed of no more than 15 mph off of our housing estate on and heading towards a main road. The road was icy and my wife is a cautious driver who would not be driving at excessive speed. As she approached the junction she applied the brakes to stop the car at the junction the car did not seem to slow. She made a split second decision to turn right on to a cul-DE-sac rather than go across the main road. She ended up driving across the cul-DE-sac before hitting a lamp post and then driving into a neighbors garage door where the car finally stopped. My wife was not injured although the car was heavily damaged, the air bags did not deploy. There were visible skid marks on the cul-DE-sac where you could see that she had applied the brakes. The police report concluded that my wife was driving with excessive speed, my wife is a very cautious driver who has never had an accident in 20 years. When interviewed by the police she was not sure exactly how this could have happened it happened so all she could do was agree with the police report. Given the media attention with newer Toyota models recently we though we should report this.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2006

2005 Toyota le v6 has noticeable acceleration problems at low to mid speeds. This is very dangerous. The vehicle has been to the dealer couple of times and Toyota currently has no fix, according to the dealer. The problem is caused by the fly by wire. This also causes problems with transmission shifting. I bought this vehicle new in August, 2005 . The problem has been there since I bought the vehicle new and still continues to date.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2005

I had my new 2005 Camry into the dealership (longo Toyota, el monte, CA) three times in the first month after I purchased it. I explained that there was a major surge in acceleration while breaking. I also had problems with my car ?jumping? forward while at a complete stop, and another issue with a lag in acceleration. All three of these issues have happened more times than I can count. There have been many times that I haven't been able to accelerate at first, only to find myself trying to brake (and not succeeding) as soon as the accelerator kicks in seconds later, sending the car surging forward. I've taken the car in to the dealership, and each time I was told that there was no problem - that whatever my issue might be, it could not?t be replicated, and that any ?timing? concern was only the electronic throttle ? and that this was completely normal. The issues with the Camry?s acceleration & electronic throttle are incredibly dangerous, and were almost the cause of a major accident (my 3 year old son was in the car at the time), and countless other minor near-accidents. I am a safe, 33 year old female driver with 17 years of driving-experience, and only one accident on my record (a man rear-ended me on the freeway in 2003). Toyota is such a popular brand, and if there are other Camry owners, then none of us are safe. How many people have to be injured or die before Toyota owns up to their mistake? I continue to see recalls for other Toyota cars, and hope beyond hope that one day my 2005 Camry se will also be recalled.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2005

My 2005 4-cylinder Toyota Camry has delayed accelerator and rough shifting of transmission. By delayed accelerator I mean that you have to press accelerator pedal about 1/4" to 1/2" before engine engages. This has been dangerous in parking lots where slow driving makes it difficult to keep engine at safe speed. The transmission also shifts roughly and downshifts hard when decelerating down a hill. I contacted dealership where I purchase my vehicle and say that is the way it is since it is computerized. Since there are no cables to adjust, I am out of luck. I also contacted 800 number for Toyota customer service and they were no help. They did mention that there was a technical service bulletin for same problem on the Camry v-6. It seems that the 4-cylinder has same problem but not enough complaints to warrant a technical bulletin.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

Bought Camry 05 new and had intermittent vibration in the front . Have had all most all front end replaced, motor and tran mounts, cv drive lines . Bearing, etc . I had the car down at the Toyota dealer many time over the years they could not find any thing bad . . . I my self checked out for lose parts found nothing till I moved left side cv drive line and I could move the drive line up and down and around that goes into the transfer-case. I made a appointment again to the Toyota dealer and had the shop foreman look a this movement. . He said this was normal and moves less then most 05 Camrys. This vibration happen at 40 and up.
