My wife had backed her 2007 Toyota Camry out of our garage onto the driveway to wash the car. The driveway is on a medium incline. She was in the process of cleaning the inside of the car along with our granddaughter. The car was in park and the ignition key in her pocket. After cleaning the inside passenger compartment with our granddaughter in the driver side she was in the process of walking around the front of the car in order to clean the driver compartment when our granddaughter was moving to the passenger side she hit the automatic transmission shifter it came out of park and rolled across the ally into the neighbors back fence. My wife got into the car and drove to the front of the house put the car in park, removed the key and was able to take the car out of park without her foot on the brake and the key removed. We took the car to Toyota dealer. The next day we picked the car up from the dealer and were told they could not duplicate the problem. They told us to take the car and if it happened again leave the car as is with the car out of gear, call them and they would send a tow truck. The next day my wife drove the car to the shopping mall. When she returned the car she was able to take the car out of park with the key out of the ignition. She was unable to get the service rep on the phone so she drove home and parked the car in the garage. Approximately 15 minutes later we all went out to the car and had her son try to take the car out of park without the key in the ignition which he did. There was no resistance in the shifter when removing from park and could freely move the shifter. We left the shifter in the drive position and called the dealer who sent a tow truck and had the drive verify the car could be shifted with the key out. The rep called and said the could not duplicate the problem. We have been trying to tell them all the have to do is drive the car for 15 min, wait 15 min then move out of park. The rep is not cooperating.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact was driving 65 mph when the contacts dog hopped into his lap. The contact pushed the dog to the back of the vehicle and the dog's paw shifted the gear from drive to reverse. The contact moved the gear back into drive and proceeded to pull over to the shoulder. The contact saw smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a transmission shop where the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileage was 72,000. Nw.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle would violently jerk and suddenly accelerate without warning. The vehicle would also shift gears independently between second and fourth gears. When the failure would occur, the engine would exhibit an abnormal increase in rpms and would fluctuate back and forth. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where she was informed that she would need to replace the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
2007 Toyota Camry. Consumer states disturbing hesitation when accelerating from a stop or at about 18-20 mph. The consumer stated if the accelerator was pushed all the way to the floor, there was still a delay, followed by an alarming surge. The consumer has since sold the vehicle back to the dealer.
Car will suddenly speed up.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving approximately 35 mph the contact attempted to accelerate but the vehicle did not respond. The contact noticed that the vehicle shifted gears but the vehicle would not respond until he applied extreme pressure to the accelerator pedal. The failure began to recur intermittently so the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the vehicle would erratically shift gears while accelerating or decelerating. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
I own a 2007 Toyota Camry al of a sudden the car stopped working and would turn off. My car is undrivable, the dealership states it is the throttle body that is failing and is in need of replacement. The approximate cost of replacing the throttle body is 1,000. I called Toyota corp. To ask for their assistance in payment due to the fact my car is only 3 years old. I am outside the 60,000 warranty Toyota refused to assist in the payment for the repair of my 3 year old car.
I was driving for work with my Toyota Camry 2007. While accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. In a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. My car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. This incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommendation of the Toyota recall procedure. I could have been easily killed in this accident. I got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. I am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective Toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error.
My car is a 2007 Camry xlev6, and was not listed as part of the Toyota recall (it has locking mats). Pulled into driveway at my home, with foot on brakes as I touched auto garage door opener on visor. Car gear was in d. As I removed foot from brake to gas pedal to pull into garage, and lightly placed foot on accelerator, instantaneously engine revved, pedal went to floor, tach zoomed and auto jetted into garage. I immediately hit brakes with both feet, attempting to disengage transmission from d and put into n. Gear shift erratically plunged into r and car began to go backwards with engine throttle wide open. Again, with tires squealing, smoking & laying rubber, I tried to jam gearshift to n or p, and car jettisoned forward hitting garage wall at full force. With millisecond recovery, I held onto gearshift all the time my feet were on brakes again tried to force it into p, and it again went to r, (must pass n and r to get gear into p) then again forward in another direct hit against garage wall, breaking the wall open and splitting sheetrock as auto nearly popped through to laundry room and gas furnace. I held the push-button in while simultaneously forcing gear shift again to reach p. Engine went from full-bore open to a stop. This event was so frightening. Had it occurred minutes earlier I was in commute traffic and in residential area returning home from metro. Pedestrians and schoolkids were in the area. I exited car to run into house, call for help. Damage to garage wall (and laundry area) is substantial, but was minimized to the auto due to a set of four tires against the garage wall which provided some cushion. Bluetooth phone (hands-free car) would not disconnect. I borrowed neighbor's phone to call husband and police/fire. Emergency firetruck team arrived to ensure no gas line break, fairfax police officer also on site. After repeated attempts & long wait times to talk with Toyota, I was told not to move car, wait 10-30 days to investigate. Here sits.
My 2007 Camry hesitates when trying to accelerate from a standstill, and rpm keeps dropping from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm for a second and back to 2000 rpm as I'm trying to maintain speed. It could make my car to slide on icy road because of this engine braking, and it happens every time I just touch gas pedal and let go rpm drops and goes back to cruising rpm all in 1 second. This happens as soon as I remove my foot of the gas pedal, causing like braking feeling. I told Toyota dealership in guelph, ontario about this problem but their master service advisor craig allen says that is normal. I believe that there is electronic throttle issue.
I have 2007 Camry. While driving between 40 and 60 mph, when I peddled the accelerator the car does not pick up/accelerate. The rpm goes from 2000 to 4000 rpm, and after a couple of seconds of delay car picks up. It's very dangerous, especially, while merging onto a freeway where there is no shoulder lane and you have to merge in really fast. The dealer said it's a problem with the software and they updated the software in my car. I still have the same problem and it occurs frequently in winter. I went to the dealer recently and they said there is nothing wrong with the transmission, it's just the way 2007 models are. In other words, they made a piece of junk in 2007 and now they can not do anything about it. I am hoping to see the recall for this issue soon.
On Feb 10, 2010 my 07 Toyota Camry accel pedal stuck on me, 5 days after the recall was done on it. It revved from 2000-4000 rpms, I had to brake hard for it to stop and regain control. Took it into Toyota, they looked at it, returned the car and told me "nothing was wrong. " on March 4, 2010 it happened again, this time it accelerated from 20 mph to 40 mph in a split second, and I almost hit the car in front of me. Again I had brake hard to gain control of my vehicle. Toyota again looked over my car, and again came up with nothing wrong with my car. So that is two times after the recall was completed that my has accelerated. It also did accelerate before the recall.
I own a 2007 Toyota Camry se v6. I have experienced since the day I bought it where I can be driving along and when I slow down, the engine will rev and the tachometer will go up to around 4,000 rpm and then what seems like 30 seconds or more, the gears will finally catch and the car will go and all this results in a jerk like reaction giving me a whiplash feeling. It can happen at any speed and the latest experience happened when I was going around 55 mph, on the highway which was very full with traffic. It was very frightening not to mention a main concern as to if the car were to lose power, I would have to somehow coast to the side of the highway and where I was there wasn't much room to pull over.
Transmission issue on 2007 Toyota Camry - when accelerating sometimes the transmission will just rev up and the car just hesitates to get up to speed.
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and I feel a vibration between 40 and 42 mph, particularly during highway driving. I have the tires rotated and checked on a regular basis and the road conditions are smooth and dry.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid. The contact was driving approximately 2 mph in reverse on a slight incline in the driveway. The hybrid system overheated warning light and master warning light indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. While pressure was applied on the accelerator pedal there was no power response. Unexpectedly, the vehicle rolled forward with the gear shifter in the reverse position. The engine was turned off. The vehicle restarted after waiting a period of eight to ten minutes and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection on four separate occasions for the identical failures. The technician stated the problem was a natural characteristic of the vehicle. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 34,717.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) 2007 Camry accelerates at a whim for 2-3 seconds. It happens very in frequent, the last time about 3-4 months ago. Has been taken to dealer and they state can not do anything, unless it happens or is reproduced for them. I reported this by phone to NHTSA but have not gotten any feed back as I was told I would receive and e-mail and follow up letter. [xxx].
Hesitation upon acceleration. Happens every time.
2007 Toyota Camry 4cyl 5sp - hesitates upon normal acceleration - ongoing.
2007 Camry xle. Problems with hesitation when accelerating. The dealership just blew me off when I explained the problem. Acted as if this was never a problem with Camrys. Also have had problems with steering column's radio controls - when pressing the appropriate buttons, nothing would happen or, when seeking stations that were programmed in, the down or up buttons would jump to other stations not programmed. Since this problem is erratic, nothing was done by dealer. Problems with the outdoor temperature gauge - at times, it would take 15-20 minutes before the temperature would change to the correct one. Example: it read 77 degrees when it was actually in the mid-90s. Dealership did repair this last summer but now, it is reading seven+ degrees off the actual outdoor temperature. The final problem with this car is that the paint is chipping off of the frame area below the doors of the car. This has never happened with any previous car I have owned. Dealer attributed it to the fact that this car is the sport version so it rides lower. First Toyota I have owned and it looks like it may be my last.
2007 Toyota Camry ce transmission problems - hesitation with 4 cylinder engine. Upon accelerating to merge in traffic on interstate, transmission hesitated on the on ramp which almost caused another vehicle to rearend my vehicle. I was going approximately 40 - 45 mph prior to acceleration when my vehicle hesitated causing my speed to decrease considerably. In turn, the vehicle following me at about a car length and a half back came close to rearending my vehicle. This hesitation has occurred numerous times since I purchased the vehicle. Spoke with the dealer on several occasions as well as Toyota motor corp and was told that it is a known problem with no fix. This is a huge safety risk and should be corrected or the vehicle recalled. Thank you for your time and consideration.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving 50 mph the vehicle would not accelerate. Also intermittently the vehicle will accelerate without application of the accelerator pedal. The dealer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 47553. The current mileage was 50001. Updated 03/04/10. The consumer also stated the vehicle was very slow when she attempted to accelerate onto the highway. It would hesitate and then kink up to 80 mph. There was condensation in the headlights. Updated 06/14/10.
Vehicle retains cruise control speed in memory even after applying brakes and stopping. Goes back to cruise control speed instead of responding to gas pedal and rams into the vehicle in front. Vehicle revs up and down for no reason when in cruise control even when traveling on flat terrain/freeway. Complaints to local Toyota dealer did not help until the accident, did an upgrade to the software which has helped but little, problem still remains.
I was driving down an open road at a moderate speed (about 40 mph). The vehicle suddenly began to accelerate. I stepped on the brake pedal but this only caused the engine to rev. I continued to press on the brake pedal with a great deal of force and was eventually with difficulty able to bring the vehicle to a stop even though the engine continued to be revving very high. I put the car in park and turned off the engine. After waiting for a few seconds, I turned the vehicle back on again. The engine was still revving out of control. I turned the vehicle back off and waited a few seconds then tried again. The engine was still revving very high. On the third or fourth try of this cycle, the engine finally started normally. I was then able to drive away at a normal speed. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer on 6/18/09. They checked it with a scan tool and did a road test but could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. This was a one-time event and has never happened again. The dealer said that the problem was likely caused by a floor mat but I find this simply impossible to believe. I checked the pedals after stopping the car and they were not obstructed in any way.
2007 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder randomly hesitates on take off. Causes a hazard when entering heavy traffic from a stop or near zero acceleration point. Also drags and seems to pull on engine when in a coasting situation. It first did this around 6800 miles. Dealer did a software update to correct the issue. Now it's doing it again at 30, 000 miles and dealer says there's nothing they can find wrong.
As I was pulling into the curb to park, my 2007 Toyota Camry accelerated and crashed into a building in quakertown, PA. I put it into reverse and stopped the car. Damage to the brick building was extensive. Property damage amounted to $14,500 and auto damage at $750. Replacement parts were installed in the auto. Brickwork and interior damage was taken care of.
2007 Camry v6 with auto transmission has had numerous problems with downshifting and upshifting constantly when not needed, hesitating when accelerator is pressed down. Also, the car sometimes surges when between gears, and then downshifts very very hard. The dealer has had all of Toyotas TSB's applied for all of these problems, but they still exist. There needs to be some other fix for these problems.
Soon after purchasing the car, we discovered a terrible problem with the cars acceleration. It only happened intermittently; when you were slowing then had to accelerate quickly. Pressing the gas pedal would result a long hesitation. This very often put the driver in danger. Soon after the purchase, we took the car into the Toyota dealer. They told us that the car was operating as designed with the new computer system that adjusts to drivers habits. We have been living with this problem for almost 2 years now, and have decided to get rid of the car. Prior to selling it, I did a search on the internet looking to see if anyone else was experiencing the problem. I found an article at this consumer affairs link. . Read more...
My 2007 Camry le v6 only has 23,000 miles on it and the transmission hesitated when accelerating. The gear does not shift and the car slows down. Very scary. Almost got hit on freeway when it did this.
2007 Camry had hesitation problem, dealership reset the computer, it was ok for a few months. After the few months the car has the hesitation problem again. Hard to accelerate, does not like to go when you try to pull out or when you try to change lanes.
I have noticed these sometimes dangerous behaviors by my car and its transmission: + when I brake, instead of down shifting, the transmission shifts up and causes the car to roll faster accelerating. + on a downhill slope, sometimes the transmission downshifts unexpectedly and causes the car to suddenly slow. + downshifting from 4th gear to 3rd is a hard shift. + especially dangerous is when I accelerated (highway merge lane) and the transmission up-shift hesitates. I am very concerned about the transmissions unpredictable shifting performance. Most recently when I was merging onto an interstate, as I approached the merging speed, the transmission hesitated as I accelerated, and I was unable to merge safely I had to pull onto the emergency lane to avoid a collision. The sudden up-shifting when I apply the brakes has caused several close calls of a rear end collision. The sudden downshifting on a slope has caused me to lose control on snow-covered roadways.
My transmission hesitates at @35mph. Toyota says it's a no-fix. It is a dangerous situation to not know when this will happen. It's bound to cause an accident at some point. This is a constant situation since I bought the car in June 2006, and it now has 32,000 miles. It occurs constantly.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off twice while driving various speeds. While the vehicle was stopped and about to make a left turn, the engine revved and the vehicle did not move. Suddenly, the transmission engaged and the speed drastically increased. The contact sped through a traffic light. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they reset the computer. A couple of weeks later, the vehicle revved up again and accelerated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer once again and they rechecked the computer, but found no failures. The dealer could not duplicate the failure and offer further assistance. The failure mileage was 32,000.
When pressing the accelerator petal the car doesn't pick up speed from a stop. It is delayed. Another incident occurred when I was stopped at a traffic light the car went it to neutral. But the final straw was when I had parked on my drive way(4/25/08) which is sort of a incline I had put my car in park and as a extra safety precaution I pressed my emergency brake upon doing so the car malfunctioned and switched gears and rolled down my driveway pulling me under as I stepped out the car and running over my foot crushing it. When the car was taken to the dealership that said there must have been a computer error which they then reset the system.
After taking my Camry xle into the dealer for a "check vsc system" warning on the dash, and some unusual shifting and hesitation, they said it was taken care of. The problem came back within a few days and worsened. While on the freeway the transmission completely gave out and the car was completely immobile, with only 30,000 on the car. Dealer sent away for a new transmission and replaced it with a note that it had been soaked in an unknown fluid, and their could be some residual liquid in the new transmission. The "check vsc light" still flicks on occasionally at start up.
