Automatic Transmission problems of the 2007 Toyota Camry - part 2

I have Toyota Camry le 4-cyl for approx. 1 yr now and it constantly hesitates when I am driving or if I am at a stop and try to pull off. My car have been in 3 accidents because my car fail to acelerate when needed from a stop sign. I have gotten to the point I am constantly looking in my rear view because I am so afraid I am going to get hit from the back of my car. I have called the dealer on numerous occasions and was told it has something to do with the relay system of some sort, but no problem that is the way the '07's operate. There definitely should be some type of recall by now. What is it going to take for me or someone else life.

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry in sept. 2006. After driving the car for several days, with less than a 1000 miles,â  I realized that there was a serious problem with acceleration; delayed accelerations when trying to attain speed, when driving around 40 miles the car performs like a manual transmission that requires shifting down to a lower gear to gain speed,and when driving on an incline there is a noticeable drop in speed. I reported the problem to dick dyer Toyota, the dealership where I purchased the car. On or aboutâ  the third visit I was told that they had received a computer update to correct the problem. After the update the problem persisted. I continued to complain. To summarize the ordeal, I complained to Toyota's national center for dispute settlement. The matter went into arbitration. In the hearing I had one other person, and the name of five (5) other people who owned 2007toyota Camry who were experiencing the same problems. The Toyota representative, regina williams agreed that she had heard the same concerns that I have from other customers. Being an owner of two previous Toyota Camrys I compared the performance. Ms. Williams said the cars could not be compared, that the car is performing the way it s suppose to, and that it is just engineered different. The outcome from the arbitration side with ms. Williams/ Toyota, saying that the vehicle is operating according to manufacturer's specifications; that thereâ  is no defect but is a characteristic of the particular make and model. I am very discouraged and don't believe I should have to pay price for poor engineering. All I wanted was a new car. No one has been injured in my automobile so far. But I feel awful ly insecure when driving, particular on interstate. This is a serious problem and I don't want to wait for something to happen for people to understand the poor engineering of this particular model. Thank you for you attention to this matter.

2007 Toyota Camry le, 5-speed, 4-cylinder has a drivetrain problem. When moving slowly from a stop, attempting to pull into traffic requiring rapid acceleration results in no response/acceleration from the engine. The car can take up to 5-seconds to respond. This is highly dangerous and I wonder why I haven't already been killed in this car!! there is a major problem with acceleration. Toyota simply says "that's the way it works, it's trying to anticipate your actions. " this is an unacceptable answer. The transmission I am told is a controlled electronically and Toyota apparently has screwed up the software. This is a dangerous car.

The car hesitates un-expectantly when trying to accelerate. This is an on going problem and is random. Several times this condition has nearly cause an accident. Dealer cannot fix problem but acknowledges it is a problem.

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry on December 24, 2006. On Monday, February 11, 2008 I shifted the car into reverse and put my foot on the gas, the car didn't move. It revved but didn't move. I shifted to drive and second with the same result. I brought the car in to Toyota in hempstead, NY on Feb. 18. They fixed it by "reprogramming the computer,: and returned the car to me, saying it was fine. The problem occurred again on Saturday, February 23. I asked about getting a new transmission because I have read a lot of information that this particular transmission is bad. I would like Toyota to recall and replace all of these transmissions. I would hate to have an accident or for anyone else to have an accident because of a transmission malfunction.

2007 Toyota Camry le, 4 cyl, 5-spd automatic trans=these cars should be recalled; mine stumbles, hesitates, shifts too soon or not at all, acts like it will stall, clunks/snaps/shutters when shifting from/to park/reverse/drive. These cars(mine included) are putting people in dangerous situations. My dealer (twice) tried to "reprogram the computer software" but the car still acts up!!! make Toyota do something before myself & others get killed !!!!.

When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle up an incline at a low speed of 5 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the engine was non- responsive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the failure could not be reproduced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 28900. Updated 3/17/10 the consumer stated the failure occurred after a full stop on s steep incline. When she removed her foot from the brake, and the apply the gas, the vehicle would not move. The vehicle had to be in neutral and then returned to drive. Updated 07/01/10.

Near death incident because my 2007 4 cyl. Camry le hesitated while trying to accelerate at an intersection. I have had numerous problems with the acceleration/transmission. When I complained to the dealership shortly after purchasing the car, I was told that it needed to be "broken in. ".

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry, and I am having transmission problems. When I give my car a little gas it hesitate and then out of know where my car takes off. Or when I am driving it seems if I am driving a 5 speed. I have to give my car more gas in order for it to go to the next gear. I should not be able to feel my car shifting gears.

The contact owns 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the rpm’s decreased when shifting gears. In addition, the failure would occur at various speeds. The dealer stated that an electronic programming issue caused the failure. The contact stated that they updated the programming; however, the failure continued to occur. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. In addition, the computer may need to be replaced. As of February 1, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 13,000. The VIN and engine size were unavailable.

I am reporting the same stagnation issue that many others reported on 2007 Toyota Camry. I bought this car in March 2006 and started noticing this issue within a month of driving. So far I had at least 12 instances of this. It happens when I try to accelerate suddenly to a higher speed. The car stalls for 20-40 seconds before it speed up. Many time it pulled me into risk while at merging to a main road traffic and at intersections dealer has replaced a transmission control component but this is still happening. The email I got from Toyota for my query says that ". . . The electronic throttle control monitors the everyday driving habits of the operator and then tailors itself to make the most efficient gearshifts. On rare occasions when the operator fully depresses the pedal or depresses the pedal in an aggressive manner, the system may experience a delay in determining how to make the optimal gearshift. At this time Toyota has no plans to make changes to the shift characteristics of the transmission. To minimize this condition, we recommend trying a firm yet gradual application of the accelerator. . . " I am using the car for more than 18 months and the 'electronic throttle control monitor' has not succeeded in finding my normal driving habit and do the normal transmission shift yet as every driver expects. Since Toyota has no plan to do any action on this I urge you to do something for us.

We own a 2007 Toyota Camry se and honestly don't know what to do at this point, our experience has been terrible. Approximately November of 07, I was driving down the conejo grade in camarillo, California and started to feel like I was losing control of the car, I couldn't steer it and hit the brakes really hard to come to a stop without hitting any other vehicles. The car was towed to Toyota who explained that the transmission needed to be replaced and the reason why I couldn't steer my car was something to do with how the transmission rotates the wheels and one wheel was pointed towards the right and one was where it should be. I could have been killed or hurt someone else and I was very upset especially after hearing that I wasn't the only one this has happened to. At this time I was told that my brakes were warped and I had to pay $180. 00 to fix them, apparently when I hit my breaks real hard to try and stop the car without crashing I warped the breaks. This wasn't under warranty. I received the car back approximately a week later and was told they put in a new transmission. When I left the dealership the engine still didn't feel right it was lunging. So I brought the car back and they did a test drive with me in the car and of course it didn't do it. I have had off and on issues and now my maintenance light is on, after being at the dealership for the last 10 days with other issues. I have no trust or faith at this point with them. Most of all, the car doing it's own driving with the transmission and the failing of mine could have killed me or someone else. How many complaints need to be made before someone gets hurt. The 2007 Camry is a problem, and honestly I'm afraid to drive it at this point.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry purchased new in 2007. He stated that the vehicle would hesitate upon acceleration. When driving up a hill, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floor and the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle drove as if it was low on fuel. The dealer could not duplicate the failure; however, he updated the computer module. The failure persisted. The current and failure mileages were under 28,000.

I'm writing to detail my issues with my 07 Toyota Camry v6. I have had it one year and the hesitation upon accelerating is still there even after a supposed 'fix' by my selling dealer. The tranny sometimes hesitates as much as 2-3 seconds b4 actually moving forward as intended. I also have extreme frustration with the interior plastics. The dash rattles more than my old 97 pontiac. The other major issue is the softness of the driver seat foam. I am due in 2 days for a re-foaming of the seat. Hopefully that will firm it up a bit. One last point is the tires wore out by 13k on them making me spend over $300. 00 for new rubber. Not acceptable for a $25,000 car.

The new 2007 Camry has always had an uneven acceleration and slowing. It is as though the transmission is always "searching" for the correct gear. As a result, the engine is always changing speeds. During the initial repair, the service manager stated that they have "a lot" of these types of complaints and said the software was updated. On subsequent repairs I was told the same thing and that Toyota could not repair the problem that the 2007 Camrys had. When I asked about serious damage to the transmission or accidents I was told that I have a warranty. I e-mailed Toyota but did not receive a response. I believe this is a potential safety issue and am uncomfortable driving the vehicle.

In September 2006 I traded a perfectly performing 4 cyl 2006 Camry for a 2007 4 cyl Camry because I liked the new design. I still like the new design but have been quite annoyed and concerned about the car's failure to accelerate when needed. From a complete stop or near stop when a quick take-off is needed the initial response is at times zilch/zero/0. I have taken the car back to the dealer who had the computer recalibrated. This lasted for a while, but it did not solve the problem. I have not gone back because I believe the issue is greater than "recalibrating". I believe this is a safety issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer. Updated 06/23/08.

The accelerator of my Toyota Camry 2007 (purchased in April of 2007) has the "hesitation issue". The car doesn't proceed at all or gain enough speed to proceed immediately after my stepping on the gas pedal from a full-stopped position. I had an accident on 10/02/07 partially due to the issue because I couldn't avoid fast enough a vehicle making a reckless left-turn. There was no injury among riders in my car although the other driver escaped the accident scene and I'm not sure whether the driver is hurt. My car is in an auto body shop currently but wouldn't like to drive it once it is fixed a few days from today. Do you have any suggestions? thank you.

2007 Camry 4 cylinder hesitates and could case an accident. Car has been reprogrammed and reported to Toyota customer service with no additional help.

I purchased my 4 cyl 2007 toy. Camry le in 8/06. I felt this was an investment much like my other 2. However, by the 1st oil change I discovered the problem of hesitation and stalling when accelerating from a stopped position. After a complaint to the service department, I was told they could "recalibrate" the transmission and fix the issue. I allowed the adj. To be performed. The issue was improved for a couple of weeks but much to my dismay returned within a couple of weeks. Once again, I complained to my dealer and was told that "it was just the way the new Camry was made to achieve better gas mileage and that if I wanted more power, I should have bought a 6 cyl. " the salesman that sold me the car, offered the solution of me purchasing a turbo booster for the car. The cost estimated in the thousands. This was not an option. The problem worsened in the winter months, causing me many instances of close calls. On one occasion I made a legal right turn on red when it appeared the path was clear, a driver suddenly changed their mind to come straight into my lane behind me. I looked in my rearview mirror, saw the oncoming car, pressed the gas and the car went no where, simply coasted down the on ramp. I pressed the gas pedal to the floor and after a few seconds the car kicked into gear, redlined in rpms and finally took off allowing me to get out of the other driver's way. There have been too many other instances to discuss in this forum, however, this was the worst and most scary. I implore your organization to make Toyota take responsibility for the problem and fix it. The calibration is not a viable solution b/c it does not cure the problem, merely stops the complaint for a few weeks. I have had this car for 1 year now and felt that I had no recourse on the issue any longer until the news reports came out. I have a renewed hope that your concerns will prompt further investigation and acceptable solution to this potentially deadly issue.

Acceleration hesitating at every stop, turn, lane change, and any forward movement. That results in slow down and acceleration is applied. Is definitely dangerous!.

Car hesitation when pulling into traffic which caused us to get almost hit. Hesitates when slowing down to go around corner and takes seconds after car has shifted back down to 1st to get up and go which scares me that I will be hit from behind.

I purchased the Toyota Camry 2007 le automatic in may 07 from lakeforest Toyota in gaithersburg MD. It has only 2,980 miles on it. The vehicle experiences loss of power when turning in intersections. This occurs mainly on right turns follows stops at stop signs and traffic signals. When starting into a turn, the car occasionally fails to respond to the accelerator. You can press the pedal to the floor and the car may not respond or only barely respond. This leaves the vehicle stuck in the intersection with approaching traffic. Performance is inconsistent with this problem occurring sometimes and not other. It has happened to me several time. I consider this a very serious safety problem that is likely to cause accidents and fatalities. Frankly, I'm afraid to drive the car. I had one experience where another vehicle has to slam on their brakes and stopped within a few feet of my car when Camry failed to respond to the accelerator. I won't make a turn unless I have two to three time as much open road as I did in my prior vehicles. Toyota is aware of the problem. The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving at any speed, the accelerator intermittently hesitates. The failure usually occurs when attempting to accelerate from a stop, when making a turn, and on major streets. The vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. She has taken the vehicle to the dealer a couple of times and was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer a couple of times because the gears would shift as if the transmission were manual, but it is an automatic. The contact informed the dealer that there was a service bulletin that described her failures exactly. The dealer recalibrated her computer and there was a slight improvement with both the vehicle hesitating and the gears shifting as though they were manual. Both failures continue to occur. She was informed that nothing could be done. The VIN was unknown. The current mileage was 12,100 and failure mileage was 10,550. The consumer stated the vehicle would not accelerate from a stop. When starting out, if it is necessary to accelerate quickly, my 2007 Toyota Camry practically stalls before finally picking up speed. It does not happen every time, but when it does it is unnerving, to say the least! it is quite dangerous, and I have come close to being hit several times. Now I just make sure I have an excess of space before I pull out of a side street or parking area.

The car slows suddenly while slowing down at around 40 mph and you will feel like some one holding the car from moving forward. And suddenly accelerates at around 25 mph even if you are not pushing the gas pedal. That day there was a traffic congestion on a highway and the traffic was moving around 40 mph. I was about to hit another car in front of me because of this problem, but I managed by braking the car with more force. I explained the problem to the dealer and took it to the dealer. The mechanic took a test drive and says the car is downshifting and that's why you feel that braking. And everything is normal. Its me who is living with the car and it is abnormal to me. They applied some TSB (fix to the computer) but it not much helpful.

2007 Camry transmission flare.

Bought 2007 Camry se on July 23, 2007. Have taken it back to the dealer 4 times for the following transmission problems: 1. Transmission "bogs down" or hesitates when attempting to accelerate, for about 2-3 seconds. Re-calibration of the ecm did not help. I have never been in a crash in my 24 years of driving, but within the first 21 days of owning this vehicle, I have caused three crashes to *almost* occur. The transmission hesitates when attempting to accelerate, then when the pedal is pushed down to the floor, it over-compensates and I've almost ran over the person in front of me. The other two times occurred when the vehicles behind me have almost run me over. . . Their vehicles accelerate normally, while mine has a 2-3 second delay. 2. The transmission also seems to be confused when driving between the speeds of 28 to 35, 38 to 42, and 45 to 51. It shifts continually and at this rate, this transmission will be wore out by 37,000 miles (but they won't care, because by then the warranty will be expired). This is clearly an unsafe situation and *someone* needs to do something about it before it causes a fatal crash.

Transmissions pauses before engaging.

Our 2007 Camry hesitates when accelerating from a stop or accelerating from a low speed. The situation has occurred several time both before and after the computer was reset.

Bought new 2007 Toyota Camry in March, 2007. Continue to experience flare up in rpm with corresponding down shifting of transmission driving on inclined road, however slightly inclined. Car cannot hold set speed on cruise control without down shifting and going like a bat out of hell over- shooting set speed before shifting back up again. Have had TSB installed which was supposed to correct this problem. It did not. Have had car into Toyota dealer 4 times with same problems (still not fixed).

The dealer was unable to repair the vehicle and found nothing wrong with its computer. The vehicle only accelerates when the accelerator pedal is almost depressed to the floor. The current mileage was 3771 and failure mileage was 1,000. Updated 02/01/08. The consumer stated the vehicle would hesitate.

Severe hesitation problem with 2007 Toyota Camry transmission--not an incident but an ongoing problem.

2007 Toyota Camry car has a bad hesitation when accelerating onto freeway or when downshifting and then trying to accelerate. Had Toyota dealer check car and they said everything operated normally. The situation can be dangerous and could easily lead to an accident. The lag is 1. 5-2 seconds from the time of pushing the throttle hard.
