1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2023

Had the vehicle progressively speed up at a high rate of speed was not due to the floor mats as that had been fixed along time ago on a recall before . I had to throw the car in neutral and then push the brake and power button for the vehicle to slow down safely ( happened twice ) . Both times not back to back on occasions months in between . Then one day had issues with the brakes and the vehicle not wanting to stop had the issue looked at by certified mechanic said my physical brakes on all sides front and back were visible sound and nothing to be causing the issue I was having . Just the other day started the vehicle as normal it warmed up went thru my day and then my radio still visible but sayin insert maps dvd ( that’s the only thing it would say or do ) then the vehicle after turning it off says check vsc system ( had certified mechanic ) come to home to inspect vehicle for issues ( car no longer showed this on dash) started as normal then next day while driving no brakes red triangle of death came up said check vsc again and brakes failed and I nearly rear ended someone thank god avoided the accident car then shut off ( car restarted then triangle once more immediately shut off ) car starts high idle brakes hard to push on mechanic says it’s a faulty issue with harness or abs pump and ecm components which may be causing the battery failure I’ve had multiple times and that the vehicle isn’t safe to drive due to this issue .

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

Car continues to slip and rev up during many up-shifts or when slowing down. After some time that it has warm enough it will stop doing it, but it always slips and revs up between third and fourth shift. Its been like this for few years now, but no one had showed up with a right solution.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2020

While driving across nebraska (possibly just inside wyoming) heading to colorado on sun June 29th, on I-80 (very long, 80mph speed-limit highway), my Camry with 215,000 miles suddenly gave a 'check hybrid engine' code, which caused the gas-pedal to be unresponsive. The check engine symbol also came on. The electronic 'trip information' data-graphic showed my hybrid battery was down to one pink-line suggesting low-power in the hybrid battery. I was able to pull over smoothly. Over the course of two hours waiting for a tow-truck that never arrived, I turned the vehicle on/off a few times to verify the on-board gps for our location (all electrical systems within the vehicle still worked). At around the two hour waiting-mark, when I turned the vehicle back on, the 'check hybrid engine' alert and the check-engine symbol both disappeared, & I was able to safely drive the vehicle the additional 50+ miles to my final destination in fort collins colorado. I took it to a dealership in colorado & two codes were registered: poaof-204 - engine failed to start (?? the vehicle always 'started' so I'm not clear about this code) and p3190 - poor engine power. Even though I was able to limp the vehicle around fort collins, the hybrid battery would only get up to three charge lines (blue), which isn't even half-charged, before trickling back down to the two or even one pink-line. The vehicle is currently in-transit on a carrier truck to my home back in buffalo, NY. The vehicle's always been reliable to this point, and I have had it since approximately 23,000 miles (when I took it over from my father). I am concerned that this problem is the same problem affecting certain prius models (2011-2015) where the gas engine no longer communicates/charges the hybrid engine. The vehicle passed nys inspection with an oil change in June 2020. Thank you for your time.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

I was driving into my garage and had just braked to let it ease in. My foot was still on the brake, when the car suddenly revved and lunged forward. The brake would not work, and it was as if the car had a mind of its own. It hit the crate that was in front of the wall, and forced a bike rack through the wall. The front bumper of my car was cracked in places. The car then stopped. So scary! I immediately called my dealership and was told they could not talk to me. I needed to call the corporation, which I did. After two months of waiting on a decision, I was told there is nothing wrong with my car, and that's that. I have since learned that there have been other incidents with Toyotas just like mine. I am petrified to drive the car, and yet I am also afraid to pass it on to someone else. I don't want anyone hurt. I have called Toyota, and they do not return my calls I am wondering what I can do.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2016

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

While driving rpm is fluctuating causing the vehicle to feel like it is down shifting when not decelerating. This makes it feel like it is causing unnecessary strain on the transmission.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

While the vehicle is in motion it hesitates to switch gears from 2nd to 3rd gear. As you accelerate. At times there is a jerk as it is doing so. This causes me to either slow down or speed up until it goes into gear.

12 Power Train problem

My Toyota solera is going thru excessive amounts of oil! I'm continuously adding oil. . . And it's not leaking anywhere. . . . Where the hell is it going! my engine is going to burn up! I want answers! 2. 4 l 4-cylimder (2az-fe).

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

Noticed my car had a knocking sound took it in to my mechanic to see what the problem was. I'm very particular about my car. The mechanic called to inform me the oil levels were extremely low, while he noticed it was close to needing an oil change but the levels shouldn't have been that low. His observation was my car is burning oil too fast. He called the dealership to question if there was an recall of such and the associate at the dealership mentioned a silent recall of this matter. He then informed me to take it in to the dealership, in which we did and was informed due to the powertrain warrenty has expired I could pay $5000+ to rebuild my moter or get my oil changed ever 3000 miles instead of 5000 miles. This I thought was a problem cause when I purchased my new 2007 Camryi was informed to change the oil every 5000 miles. It seems to be a manufacture defect cause I'm faithful about servicing my car and only take it to the dealership for oil changes and this should have been communicated to me a while ago. I'm hoping it doesn't cause any moter problems in the future.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated and lost power. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle started to jerk. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer multiple times. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

I'm returning home from work and driving on a freeway with 60mph limit. I remember driving at 45mph and maintained a very good distance from the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle in front of me tried to slowed down and that prompted me to apply the brakes. All of a sudden brakes failed and couldn't control the car to stop. The car just skidded and hit the van with big force. Luckily the vehicle in front of me is a shuttle and no passengers injured. Engine and front part damaged very bad and I myself hit my face to the steering wheel. I cut my lip and hit on my nose very bad. I still recovering from injuries. Though the crash is so bad, air bags didn't deploy and resulted injuries on me. The police and others who tried to help me wondered why the air bags didn't deploy. All these days I'm trying to recover from the injuries and couldn't send this complaint over. I got the website reference after checking with my insurance company. Could you please help me on this? thank you in advance.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

I bought this car new and have had nothing but trouble since leaving the lot. Biggest issue being in April 2012 began having issues with car burning/loosing oil. Car would loose 1 quart or more with in 200 miles. Have taken it to mechanicsville Toyota on different occasions and had a oil consumption test done only to be told I need to replace the motor and it is not covered under warranty not only due to mileage but not being a loyal customer and not having my service work done there. My husband is a mechanic and has done all the service work by the book. My issues happen at various speeds where the car will jerk, shake, accelerate and decelerate while the abs light, traction control light comes on and the check engine light comes on and will blink well over 20 times before staying lit. I had to drive around with a case of oil in my car never knowing when I would need to add. I have had to borrow a car from my family as I no longer feel safe driving this one. It can at any given moment leave me or just stall while driving. I have kept detailed notes from going back and forth to the dealer. As you can see by the other complaints this is a know problem with Toyota with the piston rings/seals, etc. Even though I know my ar is no longer covered under warranty, I feel Toyota being such a well known company and harping about safety should step up and do something with or without government assistance, and do something about this. I know I will never buy another Toyota vehicle as they do not stand behind them.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

I was driving along at about 40mph when all of a sudden there was no power going to the wheels. The engine was running but no power was going to the wheels. Luckily, I was on a city street and I was able to coast around a corner. I put the car in park and caught my breath, and then when I put it in gear it ran okay. The next day, the same thing happened again--loss of power--coasting to a stop. I double checked and the car was in fact in drive--but no power to the wheels. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced the hybrid ecm (which they have retained) and the park/neutral safety switch. (which I have).

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid. The vehicle was parked with the engine engaged when the contact heard a beeping noise and saw the vehicle rolling backwards out of the driveway. The contact was able to get into the vehicle and stop it by using the emergency brake. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be diagnosed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 80,000. Updated 11/05/10.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

After rice Toyota in greensboro "fixed" my 2007 Toyota Camry on 2/27/2010 for both recalls I have experienced a sudden surge in acceleration twice. Once from a standing start when I slightly depressed the accelerator and the car suddenly took off at a much higher rate than I intended, the second time was in traffic while accelerating to a higher speed limit the car surged past the limit. Please look at the ecu's, this car hasn't been right since the first tank of gas was used, it's as is the ecu isn't allowing the timing to advance and retard properly.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated as he was driving 15 mph the vehicle started to accelerate at a uncontrollable speed. He put his feet on the brakes and the gear in neutral the vehicle slowed down but as he waited for about five minutes before moving. The vehicle motor kept revving. He drove the vehicle home and called the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and a representative took it out for a test drive and inform him the transmission was burnt out and that they are going to replace the transmission. The contact stated he is not safe driving the vehicle and does not want the vehicle back. The failure mileage was 12,500. The consumer stated the part was on backorder for the recall. The transmission was replaced. Updated 04/13/10.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

In 2007 we leased a new Camry along with another new Toyota product on the same day. My wife has had the accelerator stick on her and she had to use the emergency brake to stop the car and ran off the road. She narrowly avoided having a terrible accident in the car while my four year old daughter was in the car with her. The dealership picked up the car and attempted to fix it. The first time my wife drove the car the accelerator stuck again. They have since came and picked it up again and have had it for almost two weeks with no progress or solutions offered. The car is unsafe and they have no solutions to fix it. They tell us they're waiting on Toyota engineers to come but have no date or time that will happen. My wife is terrified of the car and rightfully so. There are only 15 months left on the lease and we just want them to purchase the car back. It is leased through Toyota financial. This has been going on for too long for them to have no solutions for a repair.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2010

Leaving home in my 2009 Toyota Camry; while pulling out of my driveway (forward, not reverse) the accelerator stuck in a high rpm mode; the car bolted across the street, hit a ditch and caused major damage to my car including air bag deployment; all this happened while I was trying to brake, but the stuck accelerator was at too high an rpm for the car to stop.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2009

On April 22, 2009, an oil line part #15707-31030 ruptured on our 2007 Toyota Camry VIN very rapidly pumping oil from the engine and requiring immediate repair. Since April 2009, while investigating reimbursement for repair costs, several Toyota service representatives from local dealerships stated that Toyota has identified this model engine in avalon vehicles as having this same ruptured oil line defect as occurred on my vehicle. Since July 2009 while seeking reimbursement for engine repairs with Toyota customer service, I requested that this issue be pursued internal to identify this defect through technical bulletin or recall for Camry vehicles. On January 6, 2010, I spoke to miguel lopez, supervisor, Toyota customer experience, department wc10, Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , reference this issue and he stated very clearly that "no action or follow-up" phone calls or other communication would be taken by his office to investigate this safety issue with Camry?s. He stated that safety concerns would have to be taken through a local dealership. Mr. Lopez stated he was the senior supervisor and he would not connect me to any other supervisor or point of contact within Toyota.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

I have a 2007 Camry 4cyldr automatic, that has problems accelerating. This usually happens at least once a day. For example if I take off from a red light or a stop, the car will hesitate like it is stalling and then will proceed to take off. This is an inconsistent problem that when I complained at the dealership they could not reproduce the problem. The other example is that the car exhibits is that when you take your foot off the gas pedal the car will slow down but as you re-apply your foot the car will hesitate or stall until you remove your foot and re-apply it. I have 60000 miles on my car and it has had all the timely services done to it. It has been a great car up until about a year ago when the problem began. Roughly 45000 miles ago. I fear that this may result in an inability to drive defensively and result in an accident. Neither my wife nor I are aggressive drivers, and we don't feel that this is as a result of harsh driving. I did take the car into the dealer to find out if it was part of the gas pedal recall that is going on and they said that it was not. I hope that Toyota will make a timely decision on this as I had hoped to purchase another Toyota in the future.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2009

Vvti line in 2007 Toyota Camry with 63000 miles burst out of the blue. Engine oil everywhere. Part not in stock, will take 3 weeks for part to come in.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

There is a few seconds delay when depressing the accelerator pedal on my '07 Camry se. I have mentioned this problem with the car from the very beginning to others who say they also have that issue with their Camry. Any delay in acceleration is a safety hazard on the highway. Now with all the defects that Toyota seems to have been denying with the acceleration system I realize it is even more grave.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2008

Intermittently, the vehicle will not respond to the throttle. The problem happens frequently, particularly when I brake and decelerate from above 30mph, then make a turn, such as exiting an off ramp, at about 5-20 mph, I press the accelerator to accelerate out of the turn, and the throttle does not respond for about 3 to 15 seconds. I consider this a serious safety issue where I cannot depend on the vehicle responding to the throttle allowing me to control the vehicle. This problem happens under other circumstances, and is completely unpredictable, but the above scenario is the most consistent. I took the vehicle to Toyota for this issue for the second time and was told: . . That is the way it is. . ¿ and ". . This is how the fly-by-wire system works in the Camry. . " by the service tech of power Toyota irvine on Tuesday Apr 29. He acknowledged that it is a safety issue and encouraged me to speak with the tech robert who knows how to work around the issue by manipulating the throttle and recommended that I complain directly to Toyota. He also mentioned that if I bug Toyota, they will be motivated to . . Fix the software, put a new computer in it, or take care of you some other way. . ¿.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2008

3-4 second delay in response time when making a fast lane change - enough time to cause a serious accident. This happened once in heavy city traffic and once in the evening when there was little traffic. The dealership performed an ecm calibration enhancement to correct another problem of hesitation with the acceleration & then a quick surge forward. This was performed after the first incident; however, it did not correct my current problem as the hesitation happened again (the 2nd time) after the calibration. Discussed this at length with the dealership. I was informed that the ecm calibration was the only "fix" provided to them and that since I still had the problem, I would have to be very careful to not press the accelerator quickly to make a fast getaway as the computer is not able to pick up the signal that quickly. They could only suggest that I never press the accelerator quickly - try that one when you have to move out of the way fast. I am not trying to make something more of this than it is. There are some much more serious problems reported on the internet than this one. However, it is serious. When you cannot get gas when you need it, it is serious. There is apparently a problem with their electronics.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2007

Hesitation, surge.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

The following e-mail was sent to you December 2007. "with all of the problems Toyota is having with the 2007 Camry transmissions, why have they not had a recall? the slip, buck and when you take your foot off of the gas pedal around 40 miles an hour, the car continues to go forward. " why didn't you people do something years ago?????????????.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

2007 Toyota Camry would free wheel when foot is taken off the throttle. Consumer's vehicle does not free wheel in traffic and states people behind him have to suddenly hit their brakes to avoid hitting him. The consumer also stated when making a turn after slowing down to a few miles per hour and then applying pressure to the gas pedal, the vehicle would hardly accelerate for several seconds and then suddenly take off. The dealer corrected the problem slightly with recalibration.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

Car hesitates than jumps when gas pedal is pushed. . Very dangerous at intersection.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2007

Car will hesitate for nearly 3 seconds when pressing the accelerator hard to enter a freeway from 30-40mph on the entrance ramp. Does not repeat itself as the car has to be under a certain load, throttle position, and speed. The randomness of the issue will leave you startled and cringing in fear of a near miss. Engine seems to stall then transmission will finally drop down one gear which is not enough to bring the engine rpm up. Then at the last moment, the transmission downshifts and the motor comes alive. Happens sometimes when passing. All other times it is ok. This is going to get someone killed. Taking it to the dealership is useless as they deny, deny, deny and state they can't replicate. It is a definite software issue between the engine ecu and the transmission ecu. What is the purpose of a 268bhp v6 engine if you can not utilize that power when needed?.
