The dashboard is cracking and meaty and I've been calling every Toyota because I know this is a recall and they been telling me that they can't help me with this problem they said that I have to pay for it 1,500$ I will get on contact with the tv news and let them know what's going on with Toyota I really love Toyota but at this point I'm really upset with this.
The problem started in my vehicle last summer, but I didn't know about ther extended warranty. The date I entered was the date I contacted Toyota as I found information about this problem on the internet. I bought my vehicle used and went to the local Toyota dealer asking if there were any problems I should know about, as I needed an extra key made and I inquired why I was there. I was told no problems, no recalls. I noticed the dashboard getting sticky the summer of 2017, but thought it was caused by the cleaner I used on the dashboard. This summer was even hotter and the finish on the dashboard began peeling, cracking, becoming shiney, and very very sticky to touch. So I did a google search. I typed in "how to clean a sticky dashboard" and guess what popped up, Toyota Camry's problems with a defective dashboard. They didn't recall it even though it covered several years, instead they extended the warranty. I bought my car used. I check with a local dealer, and I was told no issues. I called Toyota today, and, I'm sol as the warranty has expired as of 11/2017. If I had known I could have gotten it replaced. I would also like to mention the defective visors, which I replaced at my cost as the extended warranty had expired. The fall down w/o warning and could have caused a crash. Lets not forget the oil burning issue. This vehicle is from 2005-2011 is riddled with problems and Toyota is leaving those of us who purchase used vehicles out in the cold. I'll never buy a Toyota again if this is the customer service they provide to customers.
Dashboards can become cracked and/or sticky/melted over time. Toyota issued a warranty enhancement notification on this issue which expired January 2, 2018. My 2008 Camry did not experience this problem until may 2018. This is a huge safety hazard as the sticky/melted dash acts as a mirror reflecting any light into the drivers face. It is especially hazardous in night driving when street lights and headlights glare into the drivers face reducing visibility considerably. If there are both street lights and oncoming headlights there is no visibility. It acts like a mirror on the dashboard. This should be a recall, not just a warranty enhancement.
The dashboard is cracked, shiny and sticky, seriously affecting viability. I am not the first owner of the vehicle.
I have a melting dashboard that interferes with my vision on the road. My dashboard is sticky and it's cracking and it makes the car less attractive. I contacted Toyota and they told me that there's nothing they can do because a recall already happened and it's expired which doesn't make any sense because I didn't receive any notice of a recall. Now all I ask is that there be another recall or at least repair this because there's already been times where I almost crashed due to this and one day I feel like it's going to happen if this doesn't get repaired.
The dashboard has become sticky and is cracking. It also produces a dangerous bright shiny glare on sunny florida days.
The driver seat has a tear in it and there are only 120,000 miles on the car. It torn on a crack in the leather on the seat. Also - the dash has cracks all through it but we heard that there was a recall on it. Is that true? the dash surface is sticky and hard to clean.
Toyota did a recall on the dash of the cars getting sticky and cracking. They indicated they were replacing all of these affected. This notice came to me in 2015. I was told by the dealer, autoway Toyota in clearwater, FL. That I was 96 on the replacement list with them. I just called one year later to check status and they said I was #89. They indicated they only get a few replacement dashes a week and they could give me no answer how much longer it would be. Keep in mind you cannot sell or trade the car given the cracked dash. I called Toyota and they said they were only producing a few new dashes per day and that they had over 1 mill. Claims. I don't feel this is acceptable and I wondered if you could help or whether I should write to the attorney general.
My solara has a dashboard that is cracked and is melting. The glare is terrible from this.
Noticed 6 long cracks across top and front of dashboard and a gummy sticky feel to the entire dashboard.
I have loved my Toyota solara except for one major issue. A few years ago the dashboard became sticky and gummy. Everything sticks to it and it is very soft to the touch. It is totally melting and the dashboard has changed to a shiny surface. The bright and shiny dashboard creates a huge glare on the windshield right in my line of vision. Lastly, the dashboard has begun cracking. . . First crack appeared between the audio/radio system and the glove box a few weeks ago.
My dash is melting and cracked causing it almost impossible to see out the windshield when it is sunny out. The glare reflection of the dash limits visibility. Contact Toyota and inquiry is pending.
As the dash get hot from the florida sun it becomes sticky and is easily damaged from the heat. The dash has cracked around the radio. The cracks are worse as time goes by.
Overnight my 2008 Camry solara dashboard has multiple cracks and has become tacky and shiny. This manufacturer defect continues to progress to current date. It is a safety issue because it causes a glare when sun is in direction of travel or sun is below 70 degree plane to reflect off the dash surface. Polarized sunglasses defer some of the glare. There is a safety concerned with the cracks expanding and changing and the gummy surface blending around airbag location which will prevent passenger airbag to deploy. Toyota USA and dealer will repair at my cost with a very nominal cost adjustment about 20% for replacing the dash surface. The car is in excellent shape, always garage kept at work or residence. There are thousands of Toyota cars or perhaps tens of thousands with the same issue over multiple manufacturer years. The defect becomes an issue shortly after the cars pass the warranty period.
The dashboard of my solara is melting and becoming very sticky and becomes blindingly shiny. It also has cracks and causes a film to develop on the interior of the windsheild,.
Our family owns a 2004 Toyota tundra which we love so that made us buy a Camry in 2008 big mistake! ever since I bought this car new in 08' had nothing but mechanical issues and as of date 6 recalls and counting. A month after I purchased the veh they replaced my axle, brakes and then that's when the recalls starting coming in. From my visors falling to now the window recalls. My front dashboard is nasty sticky no matter how I clean it it's gross the sticky won't go away and the arms rests on the driver door and passenger sides are both rotten from the inside their cracked and broken. I don't use arm rests so they shouldn't be! the top ceiling cloth in my car fell down the 4th month I had my vehicle so my father spray glued it (how sad is that!). This was my first car I purchased brand new so going thru this after complaints at the dealership they still didn't do anything. I'm so upset I have no words left to say about this vehicle I'm driving a crap car that's falling apart from the day I purchased it. Thank you Toyota!!!!! unless they take care of my car situation I will never recommend Toyota to anyone nor buy another Toyota it's sad!!!.
This past year the dashboard began to get very sticky and started cracking in various areas. I took the car to earl stewart Toyota in lake park, FL. And they advised that the car was no longer under warranty and they could do nothing. I checked online and found numerous other Toyota owners with the same problem. I contacted Toyota corporate and they initially refused to repair it as it was no longer under warranty. When I told them I was going to the local media tv news to complain, they immediately agreed to pay for the part, but not the labor. I did agree and had the car repaired at earl stewart Toyota and paid the total of $1795. 27. I submitted the bill to Toyota corporate and they refunded me $1268. 65 for the part and I paid the $425 for the labor. I believe this is a safety issue because of the bright reflection of the sun onto the windshield from the sticky dash. Thank you.
Dashboard became sticky, started to peel, and crack. Dashboard is melting in the sun.
The dash of the car has cracks and is extremely sticky. As if it were slowly melting. There are cracks on the passenger side which I feel are unsafe with the air bag in that position.
My brakes needed replacing at approx. 40-44k miles. My belts/water pump broke/cracked at approx 50k miles. The mechanic said the water pump, if it ever broke at all, shouldn't break till min. 100k miles. I am about to take the Camry to a mechanic to check engine racing and grinding front passenger side window motor. This car has been a money pit with awful visibility. I've spent many thousands on this car before it reach 50k miles.
Dashboard is melting and shrinking, some of the buttons like mirrors are getting deep inside impossible to reach with the fingers as usual, it is cracking and sticky, you can see cracks and groves around, it picks up all dust and anything that gets to the dashboard. I took the car to service few times but they never talk about the issue, even when it was happening in my car.
