During normal operation of a 2009 Toyota Camry le with 2. 4l 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed automatic transmission on the highway traveling approximately 60 mph, the speedometer suddenly dropped to 0 and the abs and brake lights on the dash board illuminated. The car did not cease normal operation and the brakes appeared to still function and the car was drivable as normal. The speedometer needle did not move and the abs and brake lights stayed illuminated for several minutes with no noticeable change in braking ability. Then, the speedometer suddenly jumped back to 60 mph and appears to operate properly. At the same time, the abs and brake lights on the dashboard turned off. There were no noticeable changes in the operation of the car. That the same night, the exact same symptoms returned 2 more times just as they had occurred before with no warning at all. During one episode, the lights illuminated during a complete stop and the speedometer was inactive after leaving the stop. Again, after a few minutes, the speedometer returned to correct operation and the abs and brake lights on the dash board turned off.
Abs and brake lights come on. Speedometer stops working and tachometer is iritic. Temperature gauge will drop to cold and a/c unit shuts off. This happens randomly throughout trips of various distance.
Moved to TX in 2012 and have not had any previous starting issues before moving. Attempted to start the vehicle during my lunch break, engine turned over but was unable to start. Attempted to start the car again and the engine cranked and started with a hard "jolt" as if the gear shift was out of position. Several days later the temperature was warmer and the same problem occurred. Scheduled a appointment with my local Toyota dealership and was told all systems were normal and they could not determine the cause of the problem since they could not replicate starting issue. The starting issue occurs on relatively hot days, turning the key to "on" before starting does not help the problem, the second start attempt is usually a "hard" start such that it feels as if the engine is jerking. Toyota should investigate electrical/fuel/and air components to determine the cause of this starting problem, especially since the issues seems to be temperature related.
While driving, the speed, rpm and temperature needles dropped to zero, the brake and abs lights came on and the a/c compressor stopped working while the car was traveling @ 75 mph. . . The rest of the systems were working normally. . . After about 2-3 minutes, the above mentioned systems starting working properly again with no lingering effects on the car. . . But after about 5-10 minutes it happened again. . . And the problem started to happen in a cycle as frequently as 5 minutes but as long as 30 minutes. . . This will also happen while in park. The dealer replaced the pcm and still has a problem they have not been able to diagnose the problem after a week trying. . . Any ideas? it is driving us crazy!.
Upon purchasing this car in/2013 we immediately had trouble with the 12 v cigarrette lighters. Plugging in the standard items like a cell phone or gps will only get us about 20 minutes at brst , before blowing the fuses. It doesn't matter which power point we use, it happens in each if them. The place we bought the car examined the situation three times and couldn't decipher the problem. A Toyota dealership would charge over $100 just for a diagnostic check. Due to this problem we don't feel safe traveling far with the vehicle, being unable to charge cell hone, gps, or safety cameras. The car is otherwise very reliable, but for a battery which suddenly died on us one very cold night. We weete surprised it didn't dive a warning that it might need replacing soon. As for the electrical problem, we were told we may be able to purchase an alternative external system to compensate for the cigarette lighters, from a place like best buy.
A dashboard light came on in my Toyota Camry, indicating a problem with the airbags or seatbelts (the “srs warning light”). The service person at the Toyota dealer told me the cause of the warning light was a “spiral cable” in the steering column. The repair cost me $499. 94. A cable does not have moving parts like a brake assembly. In my opinion, a cable should not fail. I learned that Toyota issued a recall of tacoma trucks because of the spiral cable. My 2009 Camry dashboard is melting. The leather console between seats has cracked. The electrical system keeps shorting out. All cigarette lighters/charger locations have shorted out including the aux. A week after buying my car the safety feature to lock place mat in place broke. Nearly causing a car wreck as the place mat lodged in between the gas and brake. The radio, location where speedometer, clock, and service lights locations are fogged up and getting worse daily. When I took my car to the dealership about the dashboard I was told,"it was my fault. Probably caused by a cleaning product. " which I knew was entirely not true. Cigarette lighter covers have dry rot and broken, plastic/leather has dry rot under all 4 windows leaving scratch looking marks, dry rot paint by stick shift is peeling. Headlights fog up easily with water in them. I was in a car wreck a couple of years ago. When I was going about 10 mph and a vehicle ran the red light hitting the right side of vehicles front area. They were going at least 45 mph. No airbag deployed. Underneath front of car is a plastic piece that keeps falling down. Some days I am unable to take car out of park unless I turn the wheel,"hard". I have never received anything via mail about any recalls on my vehicle. I still live at the same address! took car to dealer again about front passenger window and driver side window not being able to roll down or up windows. I had to pay quite a bit of money to have fixed. Passenger window switch is broken and still is just like drivers side was. Was told" it was most likely because someone tried to break into my car. " which I knew was not the case. I am very disgusted and considering filing a lawsuit against Toyota. I bought a lemon car! I keep my oil changes up to date, fluids, filters, etc. I have never felt so disappointed in a vehicle purchase in my life. I'd like a full refund.
My 2009 Toyota Camry had a window switch failure. On the main switch assembly, the switch button that controls the passenger's windows partially melted due to an apparent short. This could potentially have resulted in a fire, hence this report. Please add this complaint in your current investigation about this specific manufacturing defect and will appreciate any updates on this investigation.

Friday at 10 pm, me and my family were coming from visiting family. . I left around 10pm I started the car, drove like about half a mile, when I told my wife I smell something burning I opened the windows then I looked at my side door (driver) it was on fire, . . I pulled over to the side to get my family out ,. . . . Then I got a bottle of water that I had on the truck. . . And used to put out the fire on the driver side door. . . When I pulled over I hit one of the sign pole on the street . . Right fender was damage. . I had my two babies,, 3, and 1 year old. . . .
All of a sudden my car lost all electrical power. I could not open the door of the car using the remote and everything electrical in the car is dead. It does not start, no power windows, cd player, nothing works. I wasn't on the road when this happened but I cant imagine what would have happened if I were driving. This is the most dangerous I could have ever imagined myself in but luckily my car was parked.
Engine operates with excessive oil usage. Consumes/loses 1 quart of oil in 700 miles as of this filing date. I went to Toyota service center at 12/2011 at 82,700 miles and they said no problem - 1 quart usage per 1000 miles is normal. Also, door locks stopped working at 45,000 miles or so.
The air-tires symbol is on although Toyota changed a tire($236. 00) for me.
I have a 2009 Camry. Since my gas gauge was continuosly reading empty I took it to dealer. The dealer indicate the vehicle was in warranty until March 2012 but that because water dropplet were found in the tank the 'sender' had burned out and was not sending the correct gas level to the dash's gauge and that it was not covered by the warranty. I understand the the sender should have had some tolerance to some level of liquid humididy and should not have failed. This failure of sender should have been covered by the warranty. They indicated that many pumps had gone bad by water being deposited in tanks of ther vehicles but they had no history of replacing senders. The pump works fine and the car runs great, but the guage in the dash was the only problem. Should it have been repaired under warranty?.
2009 Toyota Camry. Consumer states several problems with vehicle to include electrical and mechanical issues the consumer had the vehicle inspected and it was determined there were several components that were defective such as the accelerator pedal, brakes, shocks, exhaust and cd player component and cable burning smell.
Driving on cruise control at 70mph. Engine shut down and lost all electrical power. Then after about 4 seconds car powered up again on its on & reset cruise. This has happened twice now in a span of 2 months. Brought car to dealer and they said they could not duplicate problem. Checked all connections and codes. Nothing showed on scans. I asked about the etc and they said that would not cause the problem I encountered? they said if it happens again and no codes show up or check engine light, there is nothing they can do?? these are the so called tech's words of wisdom.
Engine stalled while driving 15mph and was towed to Toyota and they could find nothing wrong with car.
When I was driving at night, I started to feel a lot of heat in my right hand, the heat came from the radio and the a/c controls stop working and the radio too, the radio turn blank but keep playing the a/c controls keep turning on and off by them selves. Since then my radio goes blank, on and off and the dealer wont do nothing about it, I have check with different Camry's owners and I have found out that they have the same problem. I also have problems with my brakes???? when I step on the brakes my steering wheel starts shaking like if the rotors were bad, I took the car to my mechanic only to find out that a idle arm is bad ,and he as well as other Camry's owners tell me that there are a lot problems with those arms. My car is stock, I haven't done any modifications. The other problem that I have is that I took the car for new tires and I saw rust inside all my rims, I live in California so there no snow or I do not live to close to the beach, and I do not know what to do, I told the dealer and they say nothing they can do. My visors keep falling off and they come of their base.
I want to alert you and any other Toyota owners of a bug in the dashboard that causes the dashboard lights to flash on and off. Flashes are so sudden most people may not even notice. Toyota supposedly corrected after I left the with them for repair. I was notified that it was corrected yet 4 1/2 months later I'm still noticing the same problem.
I purchased my 2009 Toyota Camry in Jun 2009(used) with about 6000 miles. After the first week the clip from the carpet snapped out, and I took it to Toyota for the first carpet recall, then I took it to Toyota for the sudden acceleration recall with the gas pedal, this Friday I am returning it, for the sudden acceleration due to some electrical issue that Toyota is unsure of. I've been paying car notes and have not been able to try my car, for fear of sudden acceleration not due to myself.
