3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Ever since I have owned this car I've noticed the accelerator and brakes are extremely touch and impossible to accelerate smoothly from a stop. The brakes are also extremely touchy so it's hard to come to a smooth stop without jerking. I have never had a problem like this and after reading all the complaints about about the accelerator and brakes I'm very worried that my car will eventually cause an accident. I would like to know if the people who had accidents or near accidents had this problem before the car went out of control. When using speed control it will always blink and have to be turned off and on.

4 Service Brakes problem

I applied the brakes slowly as I was driving on the highway moving about 25 mph and instead of slowing down, the car accelerated--it jolted forward! I stepped on the brakes harder. This happened twice on one drive--I almost hit an 18 wheeler. Is there something I should do? I'm not sure if it is safe to drive.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2017

Twice while driving last week the car abruptly and on its own, accelerated to a very high rate of speed. The first time, I was able to slow it down. The second time I pumped on the brakes several times, without result. I kept pumping and it was very difficult to stop. Several more attempts and I was able to stop the car. The engine revved over and over and it took quite a bit of effort to actually stop the car. The engine only stop revving up when I put the car in park which gave a huge jolt to the car. I was able to stop, but not easily. I had my young son in the car with me and it was incredibly scary. The engine only stopped revving when I put the car in park which caused a huge jolt of the car.

While driving on highway the vehicle suddenly lost steering with no ability for the driver to control direction of the car. The driver immediately braked and the brakes did reduce the speed of the car. The ability to steer was recovered after approximately 1 minute. The car was towed to a service station. A review of the computer data (trouble codes) indicated a failure of the abs actuator and steering angle sensor. 11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

I’m not sure exactly when the problems with unexpected acceleration began with this car, but they are fairly recent. All occurred when the car was stopped or moving very slowly. I do not have very good recollections of the earliest of these occurrences, but I can remember the last three clearly. The first of these was in March 2015. I was driving in an area where the speed limit was 35 mph and had stopped for a traffic signal. I remember clearly that I had my foot solidly on the brake pedal; I had been making a special point of that as a result of the earlier occurrences. I felt the engine speed up, but the car did not move. The second occasion was on March 29th when I was driving in a residential area and had stopped at a four-way stop. I was waiting for a pedestrian (walking a dog) who was crossing the road on the opposite side from where I was stopped. I do not have a firm recollection of exactly where my right foot was positioned, but it certainly was not on the accelerator. Suddenly the car accelerated, heading toward the pedestrian. I was able to avoid hitting her by making a sharp right turn into the cross street and then bringing the car to a stop. The third occasion was on April 5th. In attempting to park the car in a lot near a grocery store, I turned the car into an empty parking space. I was pressing the brake pedal gently to bring the car to a stop at the curb on a median strip that separated my parking area from a similar one on the other side of the median. The car was just a few feet from where it should have stopped when it suddenly accelerated, jumped over the curb, and crossed the median, striking an unoccupied car parked on the other side. I was able to stop my car only after the crash caused some minor damage to the front bumpers of both cars.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2014

On Sunday, may 18, 2014, I started my 2010 Toyota Camry and my check engine and vehicle stability control lights were on. I had no previous issues with the car. I called the local dealership on Monday morning to make an appointment, the first one I could get was just over a week away. I questioned the dealership if my car was safe to drive and they said yes, as long as the vsc light wasn't blinking. My car was checked by the dealership on may 27. I was told my brake actuator had gone out and the repairs were around $2,400 before taxes. The check engine light was from a charcoal canister that needed to be replaced, another $500+. The parts had to be ordered and it was may 30 when my car was ready. When questioning the dealership about why my brake actuator had gone out, they assured me that it was nothing I had done and they said they've had problems with others going out. After searching online I found that other models by Toyota have had recalls for the brake actuator. If the company is having problems with the same piece of equipment in other models, the recall should be expanded. Mine was not included in the recall, but it was faulty and failed. After searching, I also found there have been various issues with the charcoal canister as well in various models by the company. Perhaps research should be done on this issue also. My car is 4 years old and when I took it to the shop it had 54,259 miles. I called Toyota and they reiterated that my vehicle was not included in any recalls; therefore, at this point Toyota could do nothing about the repair.

The contact was transported from the scene via ambulance for treatment of injuries. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no explanation was offered as to why the crash occurred. The failure mileage was 51,000.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

I was driving on the highway going about 60. My check engine light was on but I was told by Toyota that I can still drive car as long as it is not blinking. My service appointment was for next day Thursday the 12th. While on highway car lost all power started to slow down and lights started blinking. A huge truck was behind me and was beeping to avoid hitting me. I managed to pull car to side if highway and car shut off by itself. I waited 5 min and the car stated and I managed to get home. The car when driven does not brake well, it feels like car has a mind of its own. The brakes do not brake well and the car jumps. You cannot contol. I am bringing to Toyota today to get the results.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

I am having issues with my Camry bouncing, swaying, pulling left and right, the engine, transmission or axles shake. It feels like the brakes are pulsing or on at random times. I believe there are several issues with this car and Toyota is not reporting the problems. I also believe the mechanics are falsifying documents which are affecting my safety and the safety of others. Brake issues are life threating and Toyota assured me my car is safe. I have been at the dealership 5 times to have the issues fixed but the dealer first blamed the tires and balancing. I replaced the tires and the dealer blamed the loud snow tires. The dealer made an appointment with a service specialist. They blamed it on tire noises and said the see you in the spring when you change the tires and they specialist said you are still under warrantee. I changed the tires two days later and returned on Monday. The dealer test drove the car and said nothing but they will be talking the Toyota specialist. I heard nothing for a week and I had to call them on again on Monday (today). The service managers said there is nothing wrong. I just received a class action lawsuit mailing over the weekend. I knew the dealer and Toyota were hiding something. I also took the car to a second Toyota dealer as the specialist recommend. The second dealer already knew about the issues before I got there. The service manager drove my car, not a mechanic test, and also blamed the snow tires. The specialist was also asking what Toyota dealerships are closer to home for me. I also called Toyota and opened two cases. I asked for transcripts of the classes and other information, they said that was for in-house use only and I could not have the info.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2012

Cpsc: i1440194a. 2010 Toyota Camry. Consumer stated at 23,000 miles the brake rotors warped causing the steering wheel to shake violently. The consumer stated 8000 miles later, the rotors warped again. Toyota offered a partial credit to replace the rotors, with the same type as a goodwill gesture.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2012

The brake rotors warped at 23000 miles causing the steering wheel to shake violently. The dealer said that the rotors were not covered by the manufacturers warranty and I paid to have them resurfaced. 8000 miles later the rotors warped again with the resulting severe steering wheel shaking. This could result in the loss of control and accidents. Checking on the internet I discovered that this is a common problem with Toyota products and I believe the rotors are substandard and a safety hazard. Toyota should recall all affected vehicles and replace the rotors with quality ones and upgrade the rotors in all cars built from this time on.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

We bought our 2010 Toyota Camry on 12/31/2010 unaware of the recall that was about to hit. When we started hearing about the recalls, we got on the Toyota web site. Our vehicle that we purchased 2 weeks prior was now on a recall list. When we contacted our local dealer, they said to do nothing, Toyota was sending out a letter the following week with all recall cars listed and when to bring them in. We never received a letter from the company nor the local dealership. When calling to demand this issue be fixed on Monday 3/8/2010, they took my name and number, said someone would call me back, and never did. My car has depreciated, I can't even get out from under it and am scared to death to drive it. I am appalled at the lack of response or concern from this company. I want out of this contract !!!.

I have a 2010 Toyota Camry that when you put it in drive and hit about 10 miles an hour there is a clunk. I have taken it to the local dealership multiple times and am being told that it is the abs actuator and that there is no fix to it at this time and I was just going to have to live with it.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

In oct 2009 we purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry hybrid sedan. We immediately noticed that there was a lag or delay when we applied the brakes. I noted to my wife that I never came so close to the car infront of me when stopping. . . Repeatedly. I told this to my sales rep at the dealer at which I bought the car, and he said, no issue. -happens consistently at all speeds. So far no accident, but very close to frequently rear-ending cars - no repairs--told not an issue I ask that you add the 2010 Toyota Camry hybrid to the list of problem Toyotas. Thanks you.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2009

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

We purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry in August of 2009. We have had several issues with the car since we purchased it. Our main concern is that on occasion when applying the brake the car with actually lurch forward as it brakes. It does not do this all the time and the malfunction is not predictable.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

Purchased 2010 Toyota Camry in 12/10/09. Car/tire was wobbling, felt that alignment was out. I took vehicle to dealer on 12/21/09. I was told that one of the tires was off. Dealer service just rebalanced rear passenger tire and inflated well beyond required psi's. Car continued to wobble, and drive with a distortion in ride and have to hold steering wheel to the left to keep the car straight. Went back for service on 1/23/10. Again, service admitted radial pull. They rebalance the wheels, and realigned the car and that didn't correct the problem. Dealer put 4 new tires and realigned. Problem continued. Car is not sitting on the frame properly but service will not admit it. Took car to service again on 2/13/10. Again a 4 wheel alignment was performed and didn't fix the problem. Took to service again 3/8/10 complained that car isn't driving properly, I have to hold my steering wheel a certain way to keep the car driving straight. Went for a test drive due to the distortion, wobbling of car and was told that Toyota tires roll from left to right. Incredible! the car accelerates when coming to a stop and steering wheel is turned to the left to go straight. One side of the car is higher than the other. When I asked what was done to the car, I was told that they made some adjustments and was dismissed. People driving behind me flash their lights at me and I've been stopped and told that my car is crooked . I can feel it and see the same thing. Service inflated my tires to over 42psi's. That's too much air. This car is still drifting to the right or left depending upon which way the tires are moving from "left to right", in which I was told this is a Toyota thing. Insulting! I feel this was done in order to mask whatever the real problem is. I traded a 2004 Camry that had the same issues. I had over 30 alignments, 4 brake jobs, a steering shaft replaced and 4 sets of tires in 4 yrs. I have documentation on that car. This car is doing the same thing. Feel unsafe.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

Camry hybrid 2010. Bought new and complained to Toyota of surging forward inconsistency during my daily two hour commute. I asked if they planned to fix it during my last service visit and the answer was "nope. " when asked that they do fix it, the answer was, "nope!". You will be notified in April when the pedals are going to be fixed. I have had nightmares of speeding out of control and am afraid to drive this car. Do I have any recourse. This is not the car I thought I purchased months ago.
