There is a transmission shudder when traveling around 30-40 mph as well as sporadically when increasing speed. Recently, there is a very hard shift/jolt when transmission is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. The issue is caused by a combination of a faulty torque converter and a software glitch in the engine control module (ecm). This is a safety hazard, and I contacted Toyota dealership in vineland who told me that they can't do anything. However, to fix the problem that Toyota issued the recall themselves, Toyota dealers need to replace to the torque converter and update the ecm software. I am reaching out to the NHTSA because this is a safety hazard, and I hope you are able to help me.
At 130,000 the torque converter went and now I need a costly transmission repair, the days of Toyota reliability are long gone.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission was slipping, causing the vehicle to jerk, or shudder until shifting into the intended gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact referenced technical service bulletin: sb-0034-14 as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,600.
The vehicle has a shudder problem related to the transmission. This problem was fixed back in 2015 and has persisted since I have owned the vehicle. During acceleration of 1200-1800 rpms, the transmission begins to shudder. I have asked the dealership to fix it due to the current recall but have stated that the transmission was already fixed.
Car would shutter when shifting. Toyota called this an "extended warranty" issue. I believe it should have been called a "recall". I did not recieve any notification of Toyota's extended warranty notice.
When car is shifting, it shutters. I was informed it was my torque converter. Toyota called this an "extended warranty" issue. I believe it should have been called a "recall". I did not recieve any notification of Toyota's extended warranty notice.
The car is speed surging and then loosing power. It will get up to 35 mph and then no power, I can get it up to 50 mph it will jerk, surge and loose power.

The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 65 mph, there was a rumbling noise coming from the transmission. The vehicle was later driven to the transmission mechanic who determined that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 165,000.
Shaking and shuddering at around 30-45 mph. This happens in traffic and feels unsafe. This is a know issue for these cars, but mine is not included in the recall - this must be an oversight or mistake.
Shudder while driving and shifts hard.
There is a problem with these vehicles made from 2012-2014. The car shakes and stutters at around the 40 mph range. The shudder comes from the transmission, especially during the acceleration of the Camry models. It can be alarming for the driver and be a safety concern when the gears do not properly change during operation.
Car shudders when accelerating past 20mph.
The vehicle has an issue with the radio the steering wheel controls do not work the touch screen does not work the buttons around the radio does not work there is also an issue with the transmission between 20 mph and 25 mph in extreme shutter happens that cuts off goes away there is no transmission light lit there is no check engine light lit I am completely at a loss to figuring out the repair I do not want to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to have it repaired with a mechanic shop I have noticed that with the 2014 Toyota Camry 95% of the vehicles all have the same issue transmission shutter and the electrical issue with the radio this is a very extremely common issue and I wish they would have it recalled and repaired because Toyota Camry 2014 is a very good reliable vehicle only it has issues and it has issues with a lot of the exact same vehicle I have read forum after forum in regards to the radio I cannot repair it I had tried to replace the entire unit and the unit that I had replaced it with is doing the exact same thing I am terrified to open the transmission because nine times out of 10 I will not figure out the issue I could pay thousands and thousands of dollars to have the transmission replaced or repaired but I don't feel like it should be the owners issue or responsibility to repair the vehicle when 90% of the vehicles out here have the exact same issues due to manufacturer issue really hoping they recall this it will give Toyota a better look I have also noticed that no matter how many times I reset the tire pressure sensor monitor and ensure that all tires have the correct amount of air that the tire light will not go off and will not go away these issues have been around for a very long time since I've had the vehicle and no matter the amount of time and amount of money I spend putting into the vehicle for parts the issues will not go away.
The vehicle shudders when shifting gears during acceleration. I understand there is a recall for 2012-2014 Toyota Camry u760 atm software update related to this problem. Please confirm and notify me immediately. Thank you.
Vehicle has a shudder/torque converter issue. The vehicle loses power and shakes while driving at higher speeds eventually causing transmission failure. The vehicle had an extended safety bulletin which expired in 2022. The vehicle is not safe and Toyota will not make the necessary safety repairs.
I have had a vibration at different points of speed that would stop when you let off the gas or accelerate more. It doesn't do it beyond 60mph. I've had my vehicle in the dealership twice. 1st they told me my rear brakes were siezed to the rotors. I changed brakes, rotors, and shims on all wheels. Still didn't resolve the issue. Went into the dealership a 2nd time. They told me it was the right rear wheel bearing. I replaced that and still didn't resolve the issue. If Toyota can't figure out what is wrong with it, then who would? I can't afford to keep paying for a wrong diagnoses. I feel like my car will break down or even get into an accident because of this. There are no warning lights triggered when the vibrations happen. Please help me.
I am unsure about the exact cause. But upon some research I have noticed there is an open recall for same model of car which involved torque converter replacement and ecm software update. I have been noticing the exact same issue when I see shudder and vehicle seems to stop slow down significantly before accelerating and any time I am resuming after red light. Which is extremely safety concerns. I want to file a complaint so we can have Toyota addess this for us.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle was shuddering and shaking. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter clutch was faulty, and the software needed to be updated. There was a shudder at 35 mph, and the transmission pan gasket was replaced, and the memory was reset. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to the warranty enhancement program: ze5 certain 2012-2014 Camry extension of warranty coverage for u760e. The failure mileage was approximately 171,172.
I bought this car 2 weeks ago and now I'm learning of this torque converter problem. The used car dealership claimed that the car did not have any mechanical issues and upon test driving the issue wasn't apparent. However, no sooner than driving off the lot I notice the shutter. All of these dealerships kick the can down the road and does not fix this issue. There should be a recall on these models 2012 - 2014 to fix this issue as it is very expensive for the average driver. Toyota knew about this issue from 2012 and did not fix the problem. They will only fix it when they are forced.
Certain Toyota models between 2012-2014 had a defective software and torque converter which if left alone, will end up ruining your transmission. Toyota decided to extend the warranty to 150k miles or 8 years, whichever comes first to fix this issue instead of actually recalling every affected car and performing the software update + torque converter replacement. Dealers were instructed to only perform the fix to cars that were already exhibiting symptoms. This is problematic in my case because even though my car is only at 110k miles, the 8 hear period expired last year and I just started having issues with the powertrain. I would have been able to notice these issues earlier if we didn't have covid for the past 3 years, which changed my daily routine from being a constant commuter to working from home so less miles were put on my car. Now I'm stuck, as well as many others, with a 7k bill to fix a torque converter and transmission all because Toyota did not care about their customers. This is also a safety issue as your transmission would just continue to get worse and possibly break entirely while driving.
Transmission torque is failing - there was a recall on these year and model cars but my car was not included. . . Im reaching out now and I can't get any help!!!.
I paid for a "torque converter shudder, TSB u760e" repair. Toyota called this an "extended warranty" issue. I believe it should have been called a "recall". I did not recieve any notification of Toyota's extended warranty notice. Thus I put off the repair of the car. Unfortunately I had the car repaired after when the extended warranty expired, date and milage.
Timing chain snapped- causing irreversible damage to the engine. I now need a new engine for the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to jerk, and the vehicle began to lose power causing the vehicle to decelerate. The brake pedal was depressed, and vehicle was veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but stated the warranty enhancement extension for recall expired last year. The failure mileage was 114,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the rpm increased, but the vehicle failed to respond properly. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being discontinued. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 89,000.
Problem with vehicle has shutter from toques converter. Toyota put out an extended warranty period which I was not aware of. Found out online when I noticed my car was having problems.
The vehicle has a shudder at accelerating that will prevent proper acceleration. I had a few incidents where I needed to get out of a traffic situation that out me in danger and the vehicle almost stalled. I read about this shudder, Toyota das a warranty engagement notification-ze5. However it was for 8 years and under 150000 miles. I am well under 150000 but just over 8 years.
The torque convert creates a shudder when under light load between 35- 50mph. Initially it was happen sporadically and when it was initially noticed it was always on the same stretch of road which prompt me to think it was the road surface. Only after about a year of this did it appear to happen more often and at different areas. With more attentive driving I narrowed down the speed and conditions. I have had my oil change at the dealership every time since getting the car with 6k miles. At my service 1/7/23 I asked a technician and he said it is a known issue on the torque converter. Toyota warranty enhancement program ze5 is meant to replace for 8 years from first use or 150,000, whichever comes first. Toyota claims they reached out to each owner but in my case I was the second owner and was not notified. Toyota is refusing to honor the repair. My vehicle is had 137552 miles when I was informed of the recall but the issue had been going on for more than a year and had Toyota informed me of the condition at any service time the problem would have been addressed within their arbitrary 8 years. The vehicle is still within the 150,000 and I ask that the NHTSA request that Toyota remove the "whichever come first of the eight years or up to 150,000 miles. They made no effort to inform me and I am concerned that I may loose power while driving or overtaking. Toyota quote $4000 for the repair. Other failing item is the sporadic failure of the bsm. It will light up the bsm on the dash. Turn the system on and off a few times and it appear to reset but I am unsure if it is truly working. Front passenger door actuator does not always lock or unlock. The car will flash the lights and appear locked but the passenger door is not locked. Risk of theft and not knowing if the manual lock holds- I believe a class action lawsuit exist for the actuators.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would either shake or hesitate upon depression the accelerator pedal without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
The torque converter in the transmission fails to catch the clutch when I am driving at high or low speeds both in residential and on highway lanes. I can be driving 10 mph or 65 mph and the car will vibrate causing the car to slow, shake and shutter. In serious cases, the torque converter will slip out of gear or wont allow you to shift into a certain gear leaving you stuck and stranded on the road or highway if you don't make it to the side of the road/highway fast enough. This is a serious safety issue. The Toyota dealership has recognized this issue and said that I will have to come out of pocket myself since I have missed the campaign warranty period. (someone previously owned the car) we have had the car for year and just noticed the shuttering and shaking last year. We just paid the car off last year. We are heartbroken and frustrated.
Shudders at low speed like countless others. Just waiting for it to die in the middle of a busy intersection.
