Toyota Camry owners have reported 20 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Toyota Camry based on all problems reported for the Camry.
1. Driving on the highway with adaptive cruise control feels like taming a wild horse. Pulls side to side, even after alignment and total check up from Toyota. 2. Engine maintenace required now warning light. This came on at 106,458 miles on Toyota Camry 21 le. Randomly turned on. Off when air con was turned off, light came back on when air con was turned on. Took to Toyota dealership, repaired at no cost, coolant bypass valve circuit short to battery or open, known concern by Toyota. Dtc p268115 confirmed and repaired at no cost, customer care warranty. 3. Headlights full of water, condensation at 70,000 miles. Regular maintenace each 5k miles, bought extended protection plan for 4k, purchased car brand new in 2021 0 miles. At 70k the headlights I noticed condensation inside the headlights. I thought it would go away, later at 100,000 miles both headlights at the same time started to flicker, then drl only worked, and turn signals and side markers. Led assembly went out completely dead. Drl then stopped working. Headlight retaining clips pulled away from the body of the car. Completely plastic. Headlight seal is completely worn and is peeling away from the headlight. Toyota just inspected car at 106,000 miles nothing said about the headlights. Now at 114k, need to replace entire headlight on my own. 1 headlight is 1900 at Toyota. Must replace entire assembly, since it is a led module. Cracks in top mounting latches, entirely plastic. Led circuit board inside headlight covered in corrosion. Kioto mexico dm026 is the chip inside the headlight located under the led module. Led lights last 10-15 years. I didn't know I was supposed to reseal a headlight after 3 years. Toyota never told me this, not in the manual either. My headlights are done for. It costs 3000-4000 for oem. No help from Toyota so far. Quaity issue with led headlight unit on both sides. Plastic housing falling apart, cracking, clips snapped and breaking, no accidents. Others have this issue.

The default cruise control mode on my 2025 Toyota Camry is adaptive cruise control. If you are using adaptive cruise control when driving around town the system can abrubtly brake when it should not. The two conditions when this happens are: 1. You are driving on a divided highway that has left turn lanes. If there are cars in the left turn lane the sytem can abrubtly brake. It thinks the car in the left turn lane are in your path. 2. If you are driving in the left lane of a one way street where cars are parked on the left hand side of the street, the system can brake abrubtly. It thinks the parked cars are in your path. I consider this a safety issue because drivers often follow to closely and abrupt braking might cause a rear end collision. To solve this problem, I suggest Toyota either make non adaptive cruise control the default or have an option to change the default cruise control to non adaptive cruise control.
The vehicle adas system (pre-collision, abs, rsa, adaptive cruise control) malfunctioned (due to no physical or external fault) and sent messages to be brought to the dealer. Upon being brought to the dealer they’re telling me that the car’s physical battery (low amperage) is responsible for disabling the vehicles factory safety settings. Aside from having an open dispute with this dealer at the moment to cover the problem under my platinum warranty, this is a major defect in Toyota motor corps factory vehicle settings. At the moment the car is a safety liability because of a “battery”.

When using lane trace assist as part of the adaptive cruise control the vehicle will violently pull the steering wheel to the left or right out of the lane. This will occur even with vehicles in the lane it pulls to that are detected by the blind spot monitoring system. Brought to a Toyota dealership and they only verified 4 wheel alignment however this did not correct the issue.

There are multiple warning lights on my dash at this time. The following malfunctions are showing on my dash at this time: pre-collision system malfunction, lda malfunction, headlamp malfunction, srs malfunction, low braking power, secondary collision brake system malfunction, power steering malfunction, antilock brake system malfunction. These started coming on around two weeks ago. I have no blinkers available and my steering stiffens to where the car is almost undriveable. I contacted Toyota corporate office and the representative said she has not heard of these warnings, but they are on many Toyota forums on the internet. I took the vehicle to Toyota north in goodlettsville, TN on 10/12/2022 and they can not tell me what is wrong with my car. I feel it is a safety hazard to drive this car at this point since this car has automatic braking power. I also have videos available, if needed. This is going to cause someone to get seriously hurt.

I have owned 5 Toyotas and a Lexus SUV and never had so many problems. This is a 2020 Camry hybrid with only 20492 miles on it. It has had to be jump-started 3-4 times so far, but now it has a new issue: while on a road trip with my wife thru utah, the car suddenly shuts down, bells ringing and messages appearing. Cruise control, lane departure, and headlight system failure. This happened on a 2-lane highway with very minimal shoulder. I pulled over as far as I could, but still slightly in the lane. Turned off the ignition and after a minute or so, was able to restart the car. Noted that the sign on the road said "next services 129 miles"! this was on July 11, 2022 at about 3 pm. Once car was restarted, we drove to our destination without further issues, however I would not use cruise control for fear it would happen again. Got back to California the next day and took it to dealer to investigate the cause. Their conclusion: "extreme heat caused the warning lights to come on, but history code indicates that the issue resolved itself. The vehicle is operating normally at this time but the system will be affected by high temperatures and direct sunlight"!!! the temperature on the road at the time was 95 degrees. Dealer contacted Toyota's technical assistance hot line to document concern case #221930394. Per the service department, they called the field rep who said if everything was functioning at this time, then there was no action to be taken. First of all, I am 75 years old and do not expect this from a car with only 20492 miles on it, and especially not from a Toyota. I find the "solution" to be completely foolish - avoid high temperatures and direct sunlight!! temperatures over 95 degrees and direct sunlight are common in many states. Can someone please get to the bottom of this? I am beginning to think that I bought a lemon. I am also reporting it to NHTSA, as it is a safety issue that must be dealt with. Thank you,.
I was driving about 70 mph on interstate 95 and all of a sudden my car shut off while going 70 mph my check engine light and the traction control light came on the car came back on while still going 70 mph picked up where it left off it was a bit scary.

It's a dangerous thing. The first time it happened to me was on Jun 15, 2021, only the light came on and when I turned off the car the light went off after a month it came on again and turned off by itself, and now it turned on and it doesn't turn off for nothing. And it only says the pre-collision system & cruise control malfunction alert. I was doing a little research online and I realized that many people have this problem regardless of the vehicle miles and this is dangerous since this happens on local streets or highways regardless of the speed of the vehicle. Please investigate. Thank you.
The spiral cable sub assembly failed, losing the horn the cruise control and other portions of control on the string, would have failed with time. Should’ve thought you’re like this occur on a vehicle that’s not even four years old. Part number 84307 dash 02220 cost was $834.

Transmission has a shock when shifting. It also revs high in order to shift, when it does it has to much power. Vehicle can decide when to shift it just jerks.
Many times the blind spot monitor doesn't work properly. When there is no vehicle nearby and driving alone on the road, still the blind spot monitor light up and notify of vehicle at my blind spot and sometime when there is a vehicle at my blind spot overtaking the it shows when the vehicle has already passed. While driving on cruise control suddenly it says cruise control not available. This doesn't happen always but sometime. Both of the above happened while driving on highway.

My car has very little power. I am afraid to make left hand turns in traffic because I never know if the car will move with proper and accurate speed. The vehicle has had a recall of the fuel system for which the manufacturer does not have a fix for. My tires constantly lose air since the day I bought the car. My gas tank access door doesn't open properly, also since I bought the car. The dash screen goes off spontaneously.
Loss of electrical power steering automatic cruise control affected- not working. Does not maintain speed when using drcc. Mechanic states there is a problem with ecu response. The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds with the cruise control activated, the cruise control system would erroneously deactivate causing the vehicle speed to suddenly decelerate. Also, on several occasions while driving the anti-collision system would erroneously activate causing the vehicle to abruptly stop although no other vehicles or objects were nearby. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
The contact rented a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 65-75 mph with cruise control mode engaged, the vehicle became uncontrollable and swerved to the right independently. The contact did not recall whether a warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to swerve back to the left, the vehicle rolled over four times and landed on the wheels. The air bags deployed. The contact stated that her daughter was occupying the rear passenger's side seat at the time the incident occurred and was assisted out of the vehicle by bystanders. The contact's daughter was then airlifted to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with facial lacerations, one punctured lung, and the other lung was not operating at full capacity. The contact's daughter remained in the icu for four days. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The contact sustained a broken left toe and burns on the left arm from the air bag deployment. The contact received medical assistance. A police report was filed, but the contact did not have the police report number available. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The vehicle rental company was notified of the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
