When I am driving on a 4 lane hwy and I am in the left lane and a car in the right lane stops on the side of me my car stops also by itself . This is very dangerous . Someone can rear end me and cause a major accident. This is putting me and possibly someone else’s life in danger. I took it to team Toyota in baton rouge. One technician drove it and it did it for him. They performed software updates. Test drove it several times and said it did not do it for them. Paid over $800. On my way home it did it again, complete stop on its own when a car next to me stopped. Took the car back to team Toyota the next morning. They did test drive and it did it several times with them. Team Toyota still has my car waiting on a regional field tech to come look at my car. When moving very slow in my gravel driveway, slightly rutted with grass growing in the center, the emergency braking activated hard enough to whiplash my neck locking the front left wheel. My speed was probably less the 5 mph.

I rear ended a stopped tractor pulling a hay baler at 50 mph. My braking system sent no alerts nor did it brake for me. May airbags did not deploy. I sufferered a broken hand as a result of the impact.

Forward facing radar system malfunction. If vehicle is parked in the sun and windshield is hot the forward facing radar is overheated and when you start the vehicle the safety system fail to boot up. If this isn't enough of a safety concern the error messages obstruct your instrument cluster screen so you can not see important things like your speedometer. You can cancel the warning but with in a few seconds it reappears and obstructs your view. Vehicle was taken to dealership. There are no recalls or safety bulletins on it from Toyota corp and no known fix. This problem did not exist until Toyota moved forward radar from grill area and placed it inside windshield top center. If I manually cool the area with cold water or prolonged fan blowing on the area I can restart and safety system boots up fine. This continually happens over several years, and yet still no recall. Several discussions on Toyota's forum about this exact issue. Yet neither Toyota or NHTSA are addressing it. Lets recall and fix this before someone dies as a result of the safety system malfunction or the warning message obstructing the instrument cluster.

I was driving close to a vehicle and brake sensor came on when I got too close. I was braking before sensor initiated and after the sensor appeared my brakes no longer were stiff and I heard rattling from brakes and felt loose/unable to brake properly. This has happened twice since the first incident and I only have issues when brake sensor appears.

While driving on may 10, 2025, with dynamic radar cruise control (drcc) and lane trace assist (lta) active, my 2025 Toyota Camry hybrid unexpectedly veered off the road during a curve. I immediately applied full brake pressure, but the vehicle failed to decelerate and continued rolling 600–800 feet. The braking system, including brake override and automatic emergency braking, did not engage as designed. After the incident, the car displayed warnings: brake system malfunction, Smart stop malfunction, electronically controlled brake system failure, and low brake fluid. No warning lights appeared prior to the incident. My safety was severely at risk as the vehicle left the roadway and struck rocks and brush. Had another car or pedestrian been present, this could have caused serious injury or death. Toyota’s product liability team and a contracted engineering analyst inspected the vehicle and retrieved event data recorder logs showing 100% brake pedal application with inadequate deceleration. Toyota confirmed the brake master cylinder was low and the left rear caliper was leaking fluid but denied responsibility, citing system limitations. The vehicle was declared a total loss by my insurance company (progressive) and inspected by an authorized body shop. I have extensive documentation, including Toyota’s denial letter and the diagnostic report, which are available for review. I am reporting this defect because I believe a safety-critical failure occurred and the braking system did not function as intended. The vehicle remains under insurance custody, and all records can be provided upon request.

All of a sudden, all of my warning lights came on including: brake light, check vcs system, abs, all of the exclamation lights, etc. . Ive been very diligent about the maintenace on y vehicle and had the codes read and reset, but they keep coming back on. The major issues are the abs, catalytic converter eror code & the abs making it difficult to break. Ive had it looked at and the mechanics are saying that this is a common problem. Also, the mirror visor on driver side stopped working & constantly falls down blocking my view. Its very dangerous! please advise Toyota of these issues. While operating the vehicle, the automatic transmission failed to respond and jerked the vehicle at low speed upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear initially. After engaging 2nd gear, vehicle demonstrated loss of power while in motion until system provide engine light warning and other safety messages which had been disabled such as automatic braking system disabled as well as lane departure warning disabled. The vehicle began to limit drivable speed during highway operation which prompt exiting to service or frontage road at which point when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the vehicle would not advance or reverse and was towed from road to a safe location.

There is no way to turn off the features after looking into the manual. While I was driving on the interstate, my wheel jerked to the right towards the off ramp when I heals it straight. It was fighting me. Another time a bus was pulled to the right in front of me to pick up the people, and my car abruptly braked despite being in the clear and having pushing on my accelerator. But my vehicle jerked into the left lane over the right when I made a right turn from a stop, nearly causing me to be rear ending by traffic. As I was driving approximately last week, my car made a complete harsh stop at approximately over 30mph causing me to have severe neck and head pains that have only been increasing since. I was in the clear from the car that was to my right at the intersection. My car had also jerked to the left lane instead of the right lane when I was stopped making a right turn using my turn signal. And also, I noticed that my settings would reset when I program them. No other person messes with my settings on the dash. I have a schedule to get my neck and head checked due to increasing pains.

Shifted the operating car from park to drive when the car suddenly and unexpectedly took off even though I was not touching the accelerator. The car accelerated across the street and slammed into a parked car. The airbags did not deploy which would indicate a low-speed but the pre-collision system did not stop the car which would indicate higher- speed. My car was written off as a complete loss by my insurance carrier and the damage to the parked car that was hit was extensive.

1. 9/7/2024, emergency braking activated at 65 mph while merging onto interstate. No cars immediately in front of me. Stopped dead in travel route for about 2 minutes then restarted. (route 42 and 95 north) 2. Resulted in a near miss to several rear end collisions. 3. Will take to dealer 9/9/2024. 4. No warning or prior phantom braking.

Multiple issues with radar sensors- disable parking assist, lane assist and rear traffic sensors due to constant malfunctioning - battery has been replaced twice within the past 6 months - vacuum pump for automatic break assist replaced April 2024 - automatic brake assist failed while on vacation and car had to be driven without assisted breaks from new orleans to jackson ms for repair - car can only be driven in sport mode otherwise there is concerning jerking and rough gear change and acceleration lag, this issue has been addressed since the date of purchase but no serious concerns expressed by maintenance professionals. Car has been having major issues now since approximately mid to latejuly 2024 more issues began - rough, fluxuating idle while parked and while driving - battery replaced, air filter replaced, spark plugs replaced, O2 sensors (both) replaced, throttle body replaced, idle air control sensor replaced; all just over the course of 4 months- car sputters and rattles after getting gas - has died after being gassed up 3 separate times since August 2024- maf sensor was the last part considered the potential culprit- order replacement and installed, check engine light immediately came on after installation po607 ecm- removed new maf sensor and reinstalled old one- code was able to be cleared- waiting on another replacement maf sensor- too many codes have been thrown too list here but all parts have been replaced to "fix" the issues without success. Car stalls at redlights and stop signed. Sputters and idles erratically after filling with gas. Idle fluctuates when in park. Car has been well maintained and is my daily driver. I have 3 children and have been stranded at gas stations twice with [xxx] in generally unsafe locations during evening hours since August. Driving very slowly into my 36 foot deep garage I took my right foot off the accelerator pedal when the 2021 Toyota Camry suddenly unintended accelerated forward 15 feet and crashed through the rear garage wall, the automatic brake didn't work,. Then with my foot on the brake pedal, it continued at high speed across 35 feet of concrete patio and came to rest on top of thick hedge with front wheels spinning off the ground. I then shut the engines off. I believe this accident was caused by 'sudden unintended acceleration", a fault in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

The vacuum brake pump assembly malfunctioned and I had the vehicle taken to the dealer that did the original recall for the vacuum brake pump assembly and they inspected the vehicle and told me that was the issue along with the nipple inside the pump had broken off and fell down into the engine and had damaged the cam shaft. Exactly what the recall states. Yes the vehicle can and has been inspected its at the dealer still and has been since 06/12/2024 when this occurred. The safety of my wife and daughter and any other people in any vehicle in front of mine due to the brakes got extremely hard to push and the vehicle would not stop properly. Almost plowed into a Jeep wrangler that was in front of her when trying to pull into the grocery store. Yes the dealer butler Toyota the service manager thomas is the person I have been directly dealing with and he has tryed to contact Toyota to get an answer and they wont give an answer. He has even contacted his southwest Toyota service contact and they have tryed to get some info for me but no answers. The vehicle has been inspected by the service manager and a technician from butler Toyota and thats where all my service and the recall was done. There was no warning or messages before this but when the pump went out and the brakes would not stop the car there is a message in the info center now that this occurred. My wife and daughter was on there way home from dance and was stopping by the grocery store when she went to stop she couldnt almost rammed the back of a Jeep in front of her. She pulled into the parking lot turned the car off and called me. When I arrived about 15 minutes later there was I thought brake fluid all under the car. I then had another person ask if I needed help and I asked him would he help me push the car just about a foot or so backwards to see what was leaking. When I put my finger in it it was motor oil. I immediately told my wife that it was not drivable and took the vehicle to butler Toyota.

My wife was pulling into a parking space, feathering the brake. About a foot from parking, the car suddenly lurched forward, with her foot still on the brake, and smashed into a 2' high decorative wall. The car is no longer drivable.

Abs light on, brake warning light on, difficult to brake, air conditioner malfunctioning and seems connected to this issue.

My brake system light turn on my car won’t brake properly, already change all the brake pads, brake fluid from all 4tires also taken it to the dealership and they changed the brake sensor . My car still having issues braking properly. I’ve called Toyota and advised them it’s the brake pump from the recall on vehicles 2018. But they won’t listen. I have notice for the past year when I’m driving the car around the city around 15-30mph the emergency auto braking system alarm sounds and shows on my dash board when I have nobody in front of me luckily the car doesn’t brake at all but is not normal for it to do that it just happens randomly maybe this year alone it happen 5 times. Nobody safety was put at risk the car doesn’t brake or anything but it just sounds the alarm to brake, like 100% of the time is a low speeds. I haven’t taken it to the dealer, and I have no warning lights nothing at all is just random.

The Smart stop system, the vehicle stability control system, the electrical power steering system, the blind spot monitoring system, the secondary collision brake system, and the lane keeping assistance all malfunctioned while traveling home one night. My made a really loud continuous beeping sound as I was driving the vehicle sensed it was departing its lane and the lane keeping assistance over steered left. This caused my vehicle to scrape the curb, causing cosmetic damage, mess up the wheel alignment , and crack front drivers side rim, because I physically tried to turn away to prevent any impact with the curb. I also had this vehicle stop in the middle of the road multiple times detecting an object or obstruction was in the road when nothing was there! this almost caused rear end collisions multiple times when it happened. I actually turned this feature down to the lowest possible setting to prevent it from happening. If you are asking is it available for inspection by me it is not. This vehicle had an extremely high monthly car note. Once I took it to the dealership for inspection, they were not willing to honor my new car warranty. Even though I brought this car with 10 miles on the odometer. The dealership was negligent, & as was Toyota corporation. When I called to have it inspected and got their upper management involved. They sent out a 3rd party inspector to look at my car at jerry’s Toyota inc, located in baltimore maryland where it was purchased. Upon inspection nothing was said or noted at all about any of the malfunctioned systems to my vehicle, they used it having exterior damage from impacting the curb to say, the problem was my fault & to get insurance to fix it because it’s not their problem. Yes my safety and other safety were put at risk because of this vehicle. Yes it was inspected by a 3rd party inspector Toyota hired to look at the vehicle. It has since been repossessed because I could not drive it safely. No their were no warning lamps prior.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated during a rainstorm, the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system activated, and the vehicle came to a complete stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 250.

Only one incident almost caused an accident (there are a total of 5 different incidents that have happened however). I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic. The light was green in the direction I was trying to travel, and there was traffic coming but they were far enough away that I could have safely turned into the lane and moved with traffic if the car would have accelerated as was expected. Instead, the collision system deemed that there was an impending collision about to happen and would not allow me to accelerate. On coming traffic had to swerve to avoid hitting me, which thankfully there was no car in the second lane and they were safely able to avoid hitting me. The car was taken to the dealer and the form that is included was supplied to the dealer and subsequently to Toyota engineers. After 4 weeks, the dealer returned the car because Toyota engineers stated that the pcs system is acting as intended, and there is nothing wrong with the system.

Pulling into parking stall in front of a store at a slow speed and my Camry hybrid unexpectedly accelerated and lurched forward. I could not stop the car and the car hit the building at the end of the parking stall.

The car randomly slams on the brakes even when you aren’t near anything. Yes it’s available for inspection. The safety problem is you could be rear ended at any time when this occurs. My husband was driving on the freeway at high speeds when it happened one time. The other incidents happened to me thankfully at a slower speed but while moving on the road. Also while pulling out or into parking spots. I know it is a safety feature so you don’t hit things but I know how to drive and when I can back up safely without it slamming the brakes on. It has not been inspected and there were no warning lights indicating something was wrong.

Airbags failed in accident passenger and I were hurt and significantly impacted and then informed about recall after the fact recall number is 23tb15/23ta15.

I am writing this letter because, on August 1, 2023, my wife, and I, were involved in an accident with our 2018 Toyota Camry, which may have been due to sudden unintended acceleration, a defect which affected Camry owners for over 10 years, and is still happening. Most of these accidents occurred when the driver was pulling slowly into a parking space and their car suddenly accelerated strongly and couldn’t be stopped by hitting the brakes. The car only stopped when it hit a solid object. This often resulted in serious injuries, even death. On August 1, my wife was driving the Camry (I was in the front passenger seat) and she was in the process of slowly pulling into a parking space at parkside town commons in cary, with her foot on the brake. Without warning, the car suddenly accelerated and she was unable to stop it by hard braking. The car jumped the curb in front of it and climbed a landscaped incline, only stopping when it crashed into a wrought iron fence in front if it. There were no vehicle warning messages prior to the accident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the Camry had over $6,000 in damages and the fence was bent badly where the car hit it. We called the cary police and a police report was made. No tickets were issued by the cary police. Our Toyota dealer referred us to a higher level Toyota office that deals with special vehicle problems, which we called. We reported the accident, they said it would be reviewed. We have had no response from thetoyota higher level office since. Though the damage was repaired, we are very worried that if our Camry has a sudden unintended acceleration defect, we could suffer another such accident anytime. It is very critical to have our vehicle inspected for such a flaw, whether in electronics, the throttle, brakes, or anything else. As this problem is an important safety issue, we feel the need to have it checked out. Would appreciate your assistance.

Vehicle stalls at higher speeds on the freeway this problem happened 1 time on 7/22/23, 1 time on 7/23/23, and 5 times between 7/29/23 and 7/31/23 when traveling between las vegas and los angeles. Symptoms (this repeats every time) 1. High speed (freeway speeds) car stalls, loses power and begins slowing. This is very dangerous in heavy traffic and could have very easily caused an accident! 2. Pumping the gas pedal brings the engine power back within 3-10 seconds and the car picks up speed again. 3. The mil check engine comes on and the instrument panel rotates through malfunction alerts from ics, lda, parking brake, secondary collision brake system, etc. And continues cycling through the alerts until the engine is turned off. 4. When restarting right away, the malfunction alerts and mil remain. 5. After the car has been off for at least 30 minutes, sometimes the warnings and mil reset. The dealer gave an appointment to have the car checked 3 days in the future. This Camry was not on the recall lists for failing fuel pump even though it matches for manufacturing date.

I had a problem.

While driving on high way normally, suddenly multiple malfunction indicator lights were on at the same time. The screen shows antilock brake system malfunction, secondary collision brake system malfunction, lda malfunction, pre-collision system malfunction, low braking power.

This afternoon we had 3 safety incidents in a row as we were driving from austin to san antonio. Our Camry suddenly lost power while we were on the highway, driving 70 miles an hour, when multiple warning lights came up and the car information screen said "secondary collision brake system malfunction, visit your dealer" when this occurred the car suddenly lost power and decelerated. We had to pull over and find a safe spot to park. Doing so was dangerous because the car was barely moving forward. For the first incident, we turned the car off and we let it sit for 5 minutes. When we turned the car back on, the error code disappeared. About 25 minutes later the same thing happened at highway speed. We parked, turned the car off, disconnected the battery and waited 5 minutes, on restarting the error code disappeared. After another 25 minutes on I-35 the car did it again. These were scary and dangerous events on the highway. We were fortunate to be able to pull over each time this happened. We were afraid and did not understood why. After the third incident, we were able to drive 1 hour without the malfunction reoccurring. In our internet research this seems to be a wide spread problem of modern Toyota. Please for the safety of the american driving public, please investigate this widespread problem.

2018 Camry xse brakes go on while on drive pressing on the break would be a struggle when driving padal on the brake were stiff hard to step on even after dealership provided the service for the recall vehicle still had issues automatic emergency go on for no reason while backing up the vehicle sensors are detecting human or item that are not there. Screen on vehicle marks see dealership for maintance. 2 days after it was held for 2weeks there for maintance.

My car had parts eaten by rodents. Practically parts of the car are made from rodent food. The car also lacks a protection system against animals getting in the car. All systems started failing.

Unknown cause with no prior symptoms. Multiple alerts including pre-collision system malfunction, ics system malfunction , parking brake malfunction. Malfunctions occurred while driving, with reduction of engine power and engagement of electronic parking brake forcing vehicle to immediately stop. Was able to turn off all collision avoidance systems and electronically disengage the parking brake to allow the vehicle to be moved to safety. Vehicle seemed to be electronically limited to 40mph.

While traveling at interstate speeds (about 68 mph) a vehicle in front of me (about 6 car lengths ahead) hit a pickup truck. I hit the brakes and then my car's auto braking system was activated (displaying on the dashboard) but it did not feel like my car was slowing down. I then proceeded to push the break all the way to the floorboard and my car did not slow down causing me to hit the vehicle in front of me. It felt like the auto-breaking system was preventing me from applying full braking power. When I pushed the break petal to the floor it felt like I was pushing on air. There was no resistance on the petal as there normally would be. There were no skid marks on the road and after the impact, my vehicle would not move. I had to put the car in park and then back into drive to move off the road.

This is a rental from enterprise. I was on the highway driving. I had been using the adaptive cruise control, but I braked because there was traffic ahead. I was slowing down reasonably with the flow of traffic and all of a sudden the auto brake went on and slammed the car to a full stop! the pick up truck behind me had to slam his brakes and swerve and came within inches of plowing into me. The jolt threw me forward and terrified me. It was as if I wasn't driving the car- the car did it. So dangerous!!! I called Toyota and they filed a report and said someone would call me. And I called enterprise and they are coming to get the car from me. Absolutely terrifying. Thank goodness no one got hurt or worse.
