3 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/17/2024

The sunroofs have a drain which sometimes can plug up. This car was maintained several times a year since purchase by Toyota dealer. When the drain plugged up this fall, water backed up and came down inside of the passenger compartment on top of the electrical fuses, body computer. The leak is not detectable by owner or occupant. But when it manifests itself, it does so with the blind spot monitor failing randomly, the seat belt warning lights might or might not work, the airbag safety system fails, sometimes the whole instrument dash acts erractic including random on/off blinking, the tire pressure monitoring system fails. All these problems can occur before owner is ever aware of the problem. Since one of the items that is getting corrosion is a fuse block - potential fire while parked in a garage or while being drive is a possibility. In an accident failure of air bags can result in a fatality. I'm an engineer, so when things started blinking on dash - I took pictures or had another occupant take pictures. I showed them to the dealer service - they didn't make the connection with corrosion on the body computer that monitors and manages all the systems including the anti-lock and rollover system. It's in for repair at dealer now, now idea on the cost - but they've said damage is extensive and we caught it before most people encounter it. I checked and could find no Toyota service bulletin that warned to look for the problem, repair techs had vehicle for week trying to find problem - and it took me insisting on looking for corrosion before they found it. This should result 1)Toyota special service bulletin to inspect every year and verify sunroof drain not blocked. 2) read diagnostics codes of the body network computer for issues, 3)Toyota special service recall to repair damage free to customers.

4 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2024 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/06/2024

The blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert systems went out on my new vehicle at about 3500 miles. There are warnings for both that come up on my dashboard. I brought my vehicle in for its 5000 mile check-up and asked Toyota to check into it. Their tech said the outage was caused by the vehicle being in a collision and they were going to charge me to repair the safety systems. The thing is that this vehicle has not been in a collision. I believe it was a faulty installation of the systems. I am not going to pay for something not caused by me when the vehicle is new and under full warranty. I am making this complaint so that maybe there are other vehicles with the same issue and we can get repairs covered by Toyota under a recall.

5 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2025 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/27/2024

This is certainly a weird incident that got my passenger side blind spot warning light to stay on solid, even though there was no car or obstacle on my passenger side blind spot. I was driving to pick up my wife at the airport, I was on the right lane and I had all my Toyota safety systems 3. 0 activated. I was on a highway (65 mph)when I was approaching to the merging lane, two vehicles were approaching one after another with a very short following distance from one another, my blind spot monitor warning alert came on when the first vehicle got positioned on my blind spot and it seems that when the second vehicle, that was very close to the first vehicle, passed over my blind post again, the warning light got stuck as if the vehicle was still there, causing me to swerve a little bit cause I thought the vehicle was still there. The warning light never came off and whenever I was using the turning signal the automated safety systems thought that there was a vehicle in there and automatically moved my steering wheel to the left side which was dangerous and felt intrusive. After like 20 minutes more driving until I was able to stop the car I shut down the vehicle and waited for about 10 minutes and then restarted again and the warning light disappeared. I was able to record a video of the incident but I am not able to uploaded on the files, because there is no video format upload option.

8 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/13/2023

The torque convert creates a shudder when under light load between 35- 50mph. Initially it was happen sporadically and when it was initially noticed it was always on the same stretch of road which prompt me to think it was the road surface. Only after about a year of this did it appear to happen more often and at different areas. With more attentive driving I narrowed down the speed and conditions. I have had my oil change at the dealership every time since getting the car with 6k miles. At my service 1/7/23 I asked a technician and he said it is a known issue on the torque converter. Toyota warranty enhancement program ze5 is meant to replace for 8 years from first use or 150,000, whichever comes first. Toyota claims they reached out to each owner but in my case I was the second owner and was not notified. Toyota is refusing to honor the repair. My vehicle is had 137552 miles when I was informed of the recall but the issue had been going on for more than a year and had Toyota informed me of the condition at any service time the problem would have been addressed within their arbitrary 8 years. The vehicle is still within the 150,000 and I ask that the NHTSA request that Toyota remove the "whichever come first of the eight years or up to 150,000 miles. They made no effort to inform me and I am concerned that I may loose power while driving or overtaking. Toyota quote $4000 for the repair. Other failing item is the sporadic failure of the bsm. It will light up the bsm on the dash. Turn the system on and off a few times and it appear to reset but I am unsure if it is truly working. Front passenger door actuator does not always lock or unlock. The car will flash the lights and appear locked but the passenger door is not locked. Risk of theft and not knowing if the manual lock holds- I believe a class action lawsuit exist for the actuators.

Many times the blind spot monitor doesn't work properly. When there is no vehicle nearby and driving alone on the road, still the blind spot monitor light up and notify of vehicle at my blind spot and sometime when there is a vehicle at my blind spot overtaking the it shows when the vehicle has already passed. While driving on cruise control suddenly it says cruise control not available. This doesn't happen always but sometime. Both of the above happened while driving on highway.
