5 Wheel Rim problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/02/2006

I'm concerned with the peeling of the outer surface of my wheel rims that are peeling off, I think it could be dangerous to anyone in the vicinity when it flies off. It could possibly strike the hose that control the brakes, & could do any number of damages to pedestrians and other vehicles. Could you check this out ??.

6 Wheel Rim problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/12/2005

The problem is with the aluminum alloy chrome wheels. I purchased new tires at sears in December of 2004 with all new valve stems and speed balances. Approximately 2 to 3 months later, 2 & 3 tires were losing air (slowly) constantly. Sears showed me that the alloy rim was deteriorating around the valve stems and that I should take it back to the dealer. Because it was over the warranty mileage, the dealer (route 44 Toyota in raynham, mass. ) wouldn't do anything about this. I even went to the district managers office with no luck. I explained to them that all I wanted was the standard wheel for replacement with wheel covers. My point is, if tires lose the air inflation, there's likely to be "tire failure" contributing to more accidents on our national highways. I'm sure I'm not the only one with "alloy wheels" with this problem. Can we do something to prevent road deaths on our highways because of these flawed "aluminum alloy wheels"?.

7 Wheel Rim problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/10/2004

Alloy wheels on my vehicle are so corroded that in order to keep air in tires the wheels must be sealed with a rubber sealant.

8 Wheel Rim problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/06/2003

The alloy rims on my 2000 Camry purchased 5/03 are showing excessive corrosion. All the vehicles over two years old on the dealers lot also had this same problem. The Toyota certification program ignored the problems as I was told it did not make the rims dangerous. In my opinion this is a product defect that is not being addressed by Toyota. I was told by the dealer that this is caused by brake dust and there is no corrective remedy.

9 Wheel Rim problem of the 1998 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/09/2002

I have a question as to if there have been any other reported problems with the actual rim of the tire, the wheel itself. My brand new tire would lose air and no leak could be found, so I replaced the tire with another new one. The problem kept occuring - finally the culprit was found to be a small pinhole leak in the actual wheel, located on the far inside. I was told by 3 separate mechanics that this hole could not have been caused by any type of machinery and it might be a defect in the rim itself. My question is if this is a defect of the construction and if any other complaints have been reported. I dont have my VIN # as my car is not with me right now. I can supply later if needed. Should I contact a local Toyota dealer? thanks for your time.
