Driving on the freeway, my car engine shut-off and breaks locked. Car will not start on the move so I have to bring it to a stop. The process of transitioning lanes without breaks was very scary. After the car was brought to a full stop the car was able to start.
This issue has been on going for over 2 years; the engine reves up when starting the car, rpm goes into the red on the gauge & continues to go up & down for the first 30 minutes or so, while driving . The codes say it is an emissions issue/ charcoal canister, according to what I've researched. I took the car in for the ecu recall as instructed by the letter received. I was not experiencing any of these issues prior to the recall replacement?? I took the car to the dealership for a scheduled oil change and explained to the services person, I was told the emissions was fine, but they would be happy to run a diagnostic on it for $200, I have noticed that many other are having issues with the same codes/ emissions issues. Could you please help me with this, I don't know where or who to turn to from here. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon. I would like to send a video of what is happening, but there isn't an option for videos. If you need to see the issue live on video, I would be happy to send it to you another way. You can each me at ivyleve@yahoo. Com or 909-510-3266.
Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected the number for this report is ac002-06. However, Toyota has redesigned the Corolla to correct this in 2007 by properly protecting the a/c condenser leaving the 2005-2006 customers in the dust. Toyota Corolla air conditioning problems all models 2005-2006. I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla ce and my a/c has been failing for the past 10 years, now I need help and get total replacement of the a/c condenser and full protection.
Takata airbag inflators, engine module. Cannot get Toyota dealer to replace. Have waited four weeks.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph a check engine warning indicator illuminates, then it will go off on its own. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and the diagnosis was that the transmission needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Bp.
Brakes do not stop vehicle, brakes have to be applied to the floor to stop vehicle. Engine surges while at stop sign or red light. When shifting to drive or reverse vehicle takes off quickly.
I was driving my car home from work. Suddenly the car won't move forward and on the dashboard all the lights keeps light up and blinking and the car gradually died on the road. It's so dangerous. I see emc is listed recall but I don't receive any letter from dealer to fix its problem. Please let me know with VIN number above is on the list of recall. I have checked the alternator, it works ok and the battery is ok (just replace a few months ago). If it is recall, should I bring it to dealer to fix it even I didn't receive their letter.
I was backing up out of a parking space, stopped and put car in drive position, and 2006 Toyota Corolla accelerated to a high speed, engine roared. I put my foot on brake immediately, shut off engine and pulled emergency brake. Lights on dashboard were lit, and I had no power steering. Car bolted forward and hit the back of a parked truck which stopped my vehicle. My daughter was in the passenger side and experienced this horrible event. I was bringing her home from an operation on her arm. Needless to say, we were both terrified. Had car towed to the Toyota garage. The service manager said he couldn't touch the car due to protocol, and gave me the 800 # for Toyota. That was on a Monday and on Friday I had to get my own rental car as I had not heard from Toyota in regard to a rental car.
While parked in an open parking lot at my vfw post, the car began to smoke and, eventually, went up in flames.
I was pulling into a parking lot, applied the brakes, and it suddenly accelerated. I hit the brakes hard and it stopped. Later, I put it in reverse, and it accelerated forward. I hit the brakes hard and it stopped. I was driving around steep hills, which I don't do a lot. I wonder if that had anything to do with it?.
School bus drove across a four lane divided road and my daughter ran into the school bus, she applied the brakes and turned to the right and hit the bus. The air bag did not deploy. Injuries are soreness in shoulder and neck. Granddaughter age 3 was traumatized over the crash. School bus driver was ticketed.
Ac condenser stated leaking on 12/18/2011. Steam was coming out of front of the car as it was parked at a store. I noticed this when I was exiting the store. Two garages confirmed that it was the condenser. I went to do research on the condenser online and the complaints about defective condensers on the 2005 and 2006 Corolla appeared on the web. Problem was corrected on the 2007 and after corlla. Condenser has to protection. Could have the condenser replaced today and because of no protection, the problem could happen again the next day. Very poor design. . . This leaves the owners of 2005 and 2006 Corollas out in the cold! why no recall??? one of the garages that I went to way a Toyota dealership. . . They want $735 (estimate) to correct the problem. It was poor design! I should not have to pay for heir mistake!.
2006 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states ecm failure the consumer stated on July 20, 2011, his vehicle suddenly stopped and almost caused an accident. The vehicle was towed to a private shop where it was determined the ecm failed. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer to have the ecm replaced. The consumer received a recall letter on August 1, 2011 regarding the exact failure. The consumer is seeking reimbursement for towing expenses, the mechanics time and cab fare. Updated 09/14/11.
Taking action of Toyota regarding safety recall is conducted very slowly. I had got the recall notice from Toyota around September 2010 in this letter notified that Toyota will send the second recall notice when the replacement part is ready. Toyota will begin mailing the second owner letter in late November 2010. I had called and stopped by at Toyota (central florida Toyota) so many times for asking about this problem and when can I get the vehicle fixed. All the service advisors at this Toyota dealer said the same answers, “you have to wait for the second letter from Toyota and you can drive the car regularly if you don’t have any problem as described. I have to wait approximately 4 months for the second letter from Toyota. On the 4th of January 2011, my car had got a problem. At the meantime, my wife drove the car and my daughter, 9 years old was on broad. The engine was stopped while the car was being driven. Fortunately, there were no cars follow us and we were not on the freeway. My car was towed to central florida Toyota dealer for getting fixed and the engine control module (ecm) was replaced. We are not sure whether this problem will be occurred again. It is very dangerous, therefore, the safety recall remedy conducted by Toyota should be implemented more efficiently and faster than they do right now.
This is to report an accident I was involved in on Thursday September 30, 2010 in the morning around 4:30am, in baltimore, maryland, on interstate I-95 northbound, close to exit 80, with my 2006 Toyota Corolla. My car was recalled back in late August 2010 and I took it to the dealer as soon as I received the notification. After inspecting the engine, the dealer confirmed that a computer in the engine was defective. However, they could not replace the missing part at the time but indicated that I will receive notice in the mail for when I could bring the car back. That Thursday morning it was raining and I was driving around 50 miles/hour when I noticed that the speed needle went completely to the end of the speedometer and came back. It did this twice before suddenly accelerating and sending the car off the road. My car hit a tree from the back passenger side before stopping. The airbag deployed and I incurred several bodily injuries around the neck, chest, right shoulder, right hip and back. I was taken to the er right after the accident and back again yesterday Monday October 4, 2010 because I could not move. My car is still in a towing lot but my insurance will move it to a collision center in the coming days. I believe it might be important to investigate this crash but I am not sure who to connect with directly and hope you can advise. My direct line is 410-774-5301. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sophia.
2006 Toyota Corolla air conditioner stopped blowing at 51,000 miles. After reviewing several posts on auto repair sites it appears as though the air conditioner stops working on 2006 models between 48,000 and 55,000 miles some issues have been condenser and others are the blower and/or relay.
Driving @ 60mph when the engine and all electrical components completely shut off. I had no power steering and due to no power assist brakes the car was more difficult to stop. It is extremely dangerous to be driving along and have that happen. I was fortunate to be on a country road with no other traffic. Had I been on a busy interstate at 70mph it could have been very problematic. Toyota has said that the ecm needs replaced and that the engine cut off on them as well when they tried it. It did restart the following day but I was too afraid to drive it again and had it towed to the dealer!.
On April 23,2010, our 2006 Toyota Corolla shut itself off without warning while we were driving. We only had a few seconds to pull off the road before it coasted to a stop. The car was doing fine before this incident, and we had no idea anything was wrong. On April 27, the engine computer was replaced at a Toyota dealer. The parts salesman and the service receptionist told me that the computers chronically fail in these cars and they keep all possible types in stock to replace them.
Driving on the road and my accelerator didn't work. The engine was still on but when I pressed on the accelerator it didn't register that I was pressing the foot. Towed to Toyota dealer and they said that some ecm - engine control components were defective and they replaced the engine computer. Didn't think it necessary to do a recall because it was only in some cars.
12/26/2009 my Toyota Corolla just stopped suddenly as I was driving all idiot lights came on and the car would not move. I was lucky that I had not entered highway in central PA with interstate truckers usually moving at 80mph. I would be dead. The car just completely came to an immediate halt. My car was brought to a local reapir shop who told us it was a computer failure and we had to take it to Toyota. Called Toyota said they were unaware of the problem but we should have car towed and they wold look at it next day we were told the ecm had to be replaced but was under warranty. Will pick up car today. How many people will die before nhsta acts . My family we would have died.
I currently have a 2006 Toyota Corolla. It frequently shuts completely off. Several times I was stopped at a stop sign or signal light and it dies. I put it into park and it does eventually start up again. My husband was entering the freeway, on the on-ramp, and the car died. This has happened throughout this year.
I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla, once driving on the road the vehicle suddenly stopped and when I took it to the dealer, they told me its a faulty engine computer and they have seen this in many cars and replaced my engine computer. I marginally escaped from being hit by cars coming behind me. I don't want this issue to cause any accidents in the future for people who are still driving old version of engine computer and if possible Toyota should replace the old version of engine computer with new version.
2006 Corolla le engine computer module died without notice on July 18, 2009. There are numerous complaints about this computer dieing on the spot without notice. There needs to be a recall since this is dangerous if you are on the highway and it dies without notice. Does there need to be a death involved or can you guys have a recall before it happens. You need to go on Toyota nation and see all the complaints.
The engine turns off completely with no power.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. While driving between 10-15 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle exhibited an erratic hard shift during acceleration. The check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and the failure was labeled as the pressure control solenoid. The component was replaced, but the failure recurred. The dealer performed diagnostic testing and they recommended that the engine computerized system be replaced under warranty. The vehicle has not been repaired due to the massive national back order for the part. The failure mileage was 69,500 and current mileage was 70,029.
Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected the number for this report is ac002-06. Additionally, the Toyota has redesigned the Corolla to correct this in 2007 by properly protecting the a/c condenser leaving the 2005-2006 customers in the dust. This problem appears to occur just outside of warranty. I discovered my condenser was not working (causing no air conditioning) 16 days after my warranty expired. I now live in the southwest and the type of heat experienced and lack of ac could be considered a health hazard. Toyota refuses to replace the condenser and wants to charge customers the full $600 for replacement.
My 2006 Corolla abruptly turned off without warning while I was doing 65-70mph in freeway traffic. Luckily I pulled over safely. The engine would barely start, but it ran rough/ very weakly and die. The car was not drivable, so it was towed to the dealer and fixed same day, under warranty. I was given a receipt that stated TSB (technical service bulletin) ego42-07. The receipt indicated that my car's ecm was replaced with a different ecm, I assume a more reliable one. I know from a CO-worker that this is a common defect. This should really be a recall because what if I was passing someone on the highway or turning left! it could have been really, really bad. I wrote Toyota a complaint, and got a generic response, but I think this should be a recall. I would have reported this earlier, but I just learned about NHTSA. Thank you!.
The condenser on the vehicle for the air conditioning unit (model xrs 2006) is exposed and the air conditioning system has failed. I took the vehicle in for servicing, while still under manufacturer's warranty, and was denied the claim. I was told the repairs were not covered. When I inquired about the design, I was told " I don't design the vehicle, I am not responsible".
In August 2010, I learned about Corolla recall. Therefore I called elk grove Toyota(916-405-8000) to make an appointment but was informed to wait until I receive a notice from Toyota motors USA. Because I did not receive a letter from Toyota, I have emailed them on October 19, 2010 requesting the recall letter. Toyota motors replied stating my Corolla engine control module was replaced on March 13, 2008. I do remember towing my car to elk grove Toyota on March 13, 2008 because the engine will not start. I was told the engine needed new parts and because of warranty there will be no cost to me. My concern 1. According to the recall announcement made by the media stated that this defect could have been a serious matter because the vehicle could stop while driving. I was lucky because I was in a parking lot. 2. Why did Toyota take so long to announce this engine problem. ?if my engine problem was similar to this recall, why did they take 2 years and 5 months to announce the recall? I know Toyota has been penalized for their slow decision to recall the acceleration problem. But it seems that they continue to have problem making recall decision to ensure public safety. Toyota has become too big too fast as stated in the media. I hope they will seriously consider consumer safety rather than their profit by becoming the largest auto manufacture in the world.
The engine on my 2006 Toyota Corolla has had an engine serge problem. When the car had about 26,000 miles on it, I had a couple of incidents where I would be stopped at traffic light with my foot on brake. The engine would serge up to 4rpms. It was all I could do to keep from hitting the car in front of me. I was so shook up, I called dealer and insisted they take car and check it out. They kept the car overnight, and by the end of the next day had diagnosed the problem. They told me it was my workboot. The gas pedal was so close to the break, that the edge of my boot was hitting the gas. I had a hard time accepting that, because I made a point to keep my foot on the break when the incident was happening. I haven't had another serge problem, but I did have a high idol problem. Toyota replaced the computer chip free of charge. I thought that was great because I had 36,895 miles on car and my warranty had expired. I now have 53,000 miles on car and the high idol is getting bad again. The recent recall on gas pedal has me concerned. I believe the problem goes beyond the gas pedal. I am sending this email, to give you more data. Hopefully, others will do the same.
My Corolla is a 2006 with only 14,000 miles. The engine computer went out at 13,000 miles about 5 weeks ago. My car stayed in the shop at thomasville georgia Toyota for two weeks. I got it back and drove it two weeks and it happened again. I cut it off and recranked it and took it to the dealer. They can't get it to do it again. They kept it another week and did nothing to fix it. I cannot even go on vacation or let my daughter take it to college for fear that it will break down again and leave her stranded on a desolate road in danger for her life. The dealer admitted they have a problem with this and I know it happened in 2001 corrollas also. The car is 14 months old with 14,600 miles on it. I want the car replaced or bought back. I owe around 13,000 on the car and they only offered me 11,000 on a trade in. Yet they are selling one just like mine with more miles for 15,788. They are trying to rob me blind. This is very crooked dishonorable business practices. The car is useless to me to leave town and very dangerous because the car gets very hard to steer and will barely run 2 mph. Please help me. I bought the car new for my daughter.
I was westbound on broward blvd. In broward county, florida in stop and go traffic, when the car surged and rear ended another vehicle. Both occupants in the other vehicle were injured. Two other incidents of this nature have happened. One about four years ago in 2011 and one about two weeks ago during the first week of may 2015. Also, there has been numerous times that accelerator paddle seems to depress by it self speeding up the vehicle. I became aware of a pending investigating the dot NHTSA is conducting under case dp-14-003, opened on 09/19/14, by investigator stephen mchenry about low speed surging involving my year vehicle.
