The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact received a recall notice for recall 10v384000 (engine and engine cooling) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. Approximately one month later, the contact experienced the same problem related to the recall. The vehicle was taken dealer for a second time where the intake manifold system was replaced. The manufacturer been notified who informed the contact that his vehicle was no longer under a full warranty and that he was responsible for additional charges. The current mileage was 45,173 and the failure mileage was 43,988. Updated 3/21/11.

2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2009

Car stalling & rough engine idling caused by faulty engine intake manifold gasket.

3 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

My car stopped working while driving , I pulled over while coasting. I turned the key after stopping & it started back up and I started driving again and it stalled in the middle again. This happened a few times, and then I had it towed due to the hazard of being hit by someone. The problem was the computer had tied and was told that the computer failure is a common issue on these vehicles. Luckily I was under warranty on this and was replaced for free. Why is there no recall. Also after this was fixed 2 days later intake manifold gasket went out. Again it is a common problem with this vehicle according to a few dealers I talked as the part that is needed to replace is backordered as Toyota is redesigning it. Again no recall from Toyota yet. I am liable to pay for the repairs even though it is an engine component.

4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2006

Noticed exhaust was coming into cabin of car shortly after purchasing it brand new form dealership while driving, in park or at a traffic stop sign. Contacted dealership was advised by service manager that the smell was the coating on the exhaust used for anti corrosion purpose. Several months later took car into dealer ship, advised that I had exhaust coming into my car, dealership concurred and replaced exhaust system from exhaust manifold back to the muffler. Purchased carbon monoxide detector for car to verify that exhaust was coming into car w/carbon monoxide. Detector was reading at 25 ppm (parts per million) took car back again, still getting smell 2 weeks later. Dealer could not duplicate problem. Took it in again still getting exhaust in car ( inconsistently) does not duplicate this action every day. Dealer could not duplicate issue, wrote letter to Toyota mfg. On this issue as of late no action yet.
