16 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

My driver's side airbag light illuminated roughly 5 or 6 weeks ago. I called the Toyota dealership in which I purchased the car from back in 2011 and made an appointment to bring the car in to be looked at. When I arrived, I was basically told there was absolutely nothing they could do until the remedy for the recalled airbag became available. I then asked how long it would be, and was told it could be several more months. I have been driving my Corolla for several weeks now, since it is my only mode of transportation with a defective driver's side airbag. I have not received any more correspondence from Toyota since the first recall letter was mailed back in April of 2014. I am concerned with the danger that this problem poses and I do not see why Toyota cannot fix this problem being that the light is on. In the recall letter from Toyota it specifically states to contact the manufacturer immediately if the light becomes illuminated because it could pose a danger. I am afraid to drive the car as well as put my teenage daughter behind the wheel because of the fear of having a traffic accident and the airbag not deploying properly. Thankyou for any assistance you may have.

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

The spiral cable sub-assy airbag clock spring, (part of air bag assembly in steering wheel) will not work. Resulting in lack of air bag deployment in critical situations. Light will activate in dashboard, indicating the air bag is non functional. This vehicle has never been in any major car incident with the exception of some minor bumper scratches and the air bags have never been deployed. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer and there computer diagnostic report provided several codes with this malfunction, considering the function of this part as a protection against personal driver or passenger injuries. The deployment or lack of deployment in any unexpected event can cause a major accident in driving condition. Resulting in personal injury due to manufactures defect of this part.

23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I have had several problems with my 2009 Corolla since I purchased it. Several of the recalled safety items occurred before they were even recalled by Toyota. I'm still waiting to hear from Toyota (more than 2 months have passed) concerning results from the blackbox for an aceleration incident. During 7/2011, I had to take my car in because the srs airbag light continues to be displayed and the dealer checked it and said it would cost an initial $250 just to try to diagnose the problem and then pay for any parts (could be up to $1,200). The dealership indicated that while this light is on, the airbags may not deploy in an accident. Even though the car is out of warranty, this safety issue should be something that Toyota would want to correct for the customer, especially since I have had so problems with the car already. I don't feel safe in this car.

25 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

My wife was recently in an accident while driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla in princeton NJ. She mentioned that she stopped at the stop sign and presumably tried to move forward a bit so that she can see the traffic on the main road, to make a right turn and next thing she realized was that she was on middle of the main road hit by a flatbed truck. She is not sure how it happened. The car suffered good damage to the front left side near the tires and based on the autobody, it is going to be a high dollar repair. During the accident: 1) the seatbelt tightened strong enough to brake her left clavicle bone in her shoulder. 2) the air bags did not deploy. This is my biggest concern. Due to this accident she received a traffic ticket. This model of the car was part of the recent accelerator pedal recall and I got it fixed March 2010. I cannot stop wondering if that issue, eventhough considered as fixed, had something to do with the car accelerating faster on to the road than expected. My wife thinks she hit the accelerator slowly to move ahead a bit to better see the traffic on the main road. I have driven her car in the past and did not notice any issues related to this recall before the fix. I am not blaming this on this issue, however, I cant stop wondering if that may have played a role. And my bigger issue is that the air bags did not deploy. The car is in a body shop in NJ and I can share photos if needed.
