My car is a manual. I was driving about 25mph when in between 3rd and 4th the car engine revved up to about 5k or 6k rpm. I tried to just hit the gas but it wouldn't go back down. I did not release the clutch. I had to turn the car off and restart it so it wouldn't do that again. It happened again after that and I did the same thing by restarting it. I noticed a different pressure in the gas pedal with my foot during this occurrence. After the second time, it did not occur again. This is the second time this has happend. It happened about 10,000miles before. This happened at about 101,500miles.
Raddle in the engine. Loose valve.
My car has less then 86,000 miles and the engine is starting to fail which makes no sense to me. It started at around 80,000 miles.
My car has 91,414 miles and has had multiple cylinder misfires with my normal daily commute of six miles each way. In three years on a 4 cylinder engine I have had three ignition coils replaced, twice within two and a half years and 10,468 miles on the #2 coil. All repairs have been completed by Toyota certified repair facilities with Toyota oem parts. This is not normal for a low mileage vehicle maintained with regular service.
I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla le 1. 8 that has defective piston rings which causes the engine to consume excessive oil and it has caused two of the engine cylinders to malfunction. I have read many complaints in the internet of Toyota Corolla owners who own the same type of vehicle as mine years 2009-2011. They as well as myself have reported this issue to Toyota u. S. A. Without getting any satisfying answer from Toyota. A Toyota representative contacted me today and told me that they do not recall vehicles for repairs unless they receive an order from the NHTSA. My auto mechanic told me that he has received many 2009-2011 Toyota Corolla customers who have come to his shop to have their engines on their Toyota Corollas replaced or rebuilt to correct the factory defect of the piston rings on their Toyota Corollas 2009-2011. I researched in the internet and found out that that many Toyota Corolla owners are dealing with the same problem with their cars' engines due to the Toyota factory defect of the piston rings in their Toyota Corolla models 2009-2011 and I even read some complaints of 2014, 2015 and 2016 Toyota Corolla owners. I would like for your agency to pay attention to complaints similar to mine of other Toyota Corolla owners. I am surprised that there hasn't been a recall issued to correct the factory defect of the piston rings of Toyota Corollas of years 2009-2011 and other years after those. My car has been driven 137,250 miles and I had kept the maintenance up to date. Thank you for your help and I hope something is done by your agency to resolve this matter.
Once you turn on your car the lifters become stuck and make a loud clicking noise on the engine. It makes the car hesitate to turn on and at times it shuts off the car automatically at any time.
Takata airbags-this is third time that I am filling this out. This website is difficult and I could not check all the boxes that I needed. This car had so many problems. It is the worst car that I have even owned. All of the paint was peeling off. I had to have the engine rebuilt. The lights kept blowing out. I had an accident and I hit the steering with my face. The airbag never deployed. I knocked myself out. I had facial contusion and almost knocked my teeth out.
A 2009 car that was regularly maintained (including regular oil changes) with less than 35,000 miles allegedly needs a new drive train?!?!?!?!!!!.
(defect waterpump) my waterpump went had a hairline crack. . The macanic says the old waterpump molding was off and was too thin around where it connects to the engine.
2009 Toyota Corolla, engine will go into a "mode" where it revs up to 2000 rpm on its own. Pressing the gas pedal will not do anything, still stays on 2000 rpm until engine is shut off and restarted, one shop suggested I replace the throttle body ($1400) did and still have the same issue. Also replaced the gas pedal assy. ($35. 00 used) still have the same issue. Car may go days or weeks between events. When it happens on a freeway, it is very bad, the car slows and you can not accelerate in any way, you must pull over and shut off the engine and restart to get the car to move. Very dangerous! this has happened when traveling at 65mph and also at 5mph coming to a stop sign.
2009 Toyota Corolla. Consumer writes in regards to claim form for installation of the re-tuned ecu settlement was denied due to vehicle ownership. Notice of denied claim records indicate consumer is not current owner of vehicle.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v340000 (air bags) and 09v338 (engine); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issues. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
My vehicle has never had the service campaign for the cam shaft gears replaced. Now my vehicle has 197k miles on it and has been having issues with those gears. I need to know if there is a way to get this paid and fixed by Toyota since its a recall. My vehicle is at my dealership in vancouver right now. I can not drive my vehicle.
I was on my eay to work drive on the surface street at a speed between 42-45mph when my car suddenly accelerated. I stepped on brakes but I was still accelering so I had to turn off my engine to get the car to stop. This is the second timebtis ha happened to my vehicle. The first time was about 6 months ago, at the time I took it to a Toyota service center and they told my my brakes and carpet was recalled. The replaced both items and told me my car should be good. The second time my car accelerated weeks ago. I called Toyota and made a claim with them. They are saying there's no issue with my car even though I had accerated two in the past 6 month. Both time I had to turn off my engine to get yhe car to stop. Both time I had to call a tow to tow my car. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed.
H first time the car malfunction I was coming back from returning the rental truck, I was pulling out on the highway and at that time the steering wheel locked up, the battery indicator light come on, abs brake light come on, and rest of the idiot lights on the panel come on. It was very hard to steer the car, will all my effort with two hands I can steer the wheel and control the car. The engine was running really rough and sounded like it was going to quit. This lasted for approximately 20 seconds it seemed like, and then the car started running right now and I was able to steer again and all the lights on the panel went out. I was very concerned about this thinking my car was failing and I knew that there is probably something the matter with it but when it started running right, I figured I just can't fix something that's not broke and really take no notice of it. How my daughter got a driver's license on August the 4th and then on August the 6 you wanted to use the car. So I let her use it. The car malfunction again on this day and and it took out the alternator when it did. So I change the alternator in the car and let my wife use the car for two days because she travels a short distance to work to see if it's ok. After two days of my wife driving and then I resume driving it to work. Didn't appear to be the car was working fine until August 13th, and that's when my daughter erica drove the car again and while backing out of the driveway the car malfunction, she couldn't steer the car the brakes won't work and naturally grown in reverse the emergency brake is not that effective in she ran off the road and damage the car.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated the vehicle accelerated when attempted to park causing the contact to crash into a church wall. The contact sustained chest injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000. Aw.
While driving on interstate 395 in connecticut the engine died. I was able to coast over to the side of the road and after multiple tries the car stated. I drove a little further and the engine died once again while I was driving. I was able to start the car and get it to my mechanic. The engine error code stated that 2 of the 4 starter coils failed. The mechanic replaced the 2 starter coils and the car drove fine. After the car spent the night in my garage it would not start again. I had the car towed to mechanic and he replaced the crank shaft sensor. The car again ran fine for 1 day than after the overnight in the garage the car would not start. At the recommendation of my mechanic I had the car towed to valenti Toyota in westerly. Ri where I purchased the car. They kept the car for a week first stating that the computer was bad and needed to be replaced. I pointed out that Toyota had a recall of computers in 2008 Corolla'a and since my car was built in 2008 did they use the same faulty computers? they stated no and would order a new computer and have it the next day. I received a call from the dealership stating that Toyota would not release the part to them and they would be dealing with the regional parts engineer. After 4 days and still no computer valenti Toyota called me back and stated that all 4 starter coils needed replacing and that the car is running now. The charge for the repair was $768. 52 (customer #20437 and invoice #tocs275417) this does not make a lot of sense to me as I have never heard of a company not releasing parts to its own dealership. My question is did my car have a faulty computer and is this a cover-up? why would the car engine just stop when driving at a speed of 60 mph? luckily I had no one behind me and was able to coast to safety.
Dealer did Smart stop technology, upon picking up car noticed it running rough. After driving a few miles it seemed to improve. Over a period of a few months and approx 3000 miles engine performance and fuel mileage have gotten much worse, mileage has dropped off almost 10 mpg! took the car in for nysi today and asked dealer about this. Was told by service advisor that the car had to relearn certain functions. Asked how long this should take and was told a few months? I said to them thay it has already been a few months and about 3000 miles. To me this is unacceptable. I will give it a couple thousand more miles and see what happens. If I see no improvement I will be back to the dealer looking for answers. Driving habits have not changed from pre Smart stop. This is also a highly maintained vehicle and has been serviced at the same dealer since new.
Ecu is defective in 2009 model just like in 2005-2008 model. When it reaches 90,000 it brakes. The car starts jerking and doesn't want to change gears. At home all of us drive Toyota Corollas and all of them had the same problem at 90,000 mileage.
Car recently making a loud rattle when start. Toyota refusing to repair a defective cam shaft timing gear assembly. My car is not covered by Toyota's warranty, but this defective cam shaft timing gear assembly has a TSB with many complaints by customers who own a 2009 Toyota Corolla! this is unacceptable and not safe!!! please address ASAP. . . I should not be responsible to pay to replace the cam shaft timing gear assembly that has always been defective. Toyota should recall 2009 Toyota Corolla to repair this problem. Thanks.
The transmission hits so hard that it feels like you have hit a speed bump. This happens when you try to accelerate to pass.
At approximately 11:00 a. M. On a beautiful sunny day, I was driving on the PA turnpike at the speed of 65 mph when the power steering in my 2009 Toyota Corolla failed. My car unintentionally veered left and right as if I was encountering hurricane-like strong wind gusts. The car bounced back and forth for approximately 5 seconds, while feeling as if it was floating/hydroplaning, as I attempted to regain control. My attempts at correcting the power steering issue were unsuccessful and ultimately the front right side of my car crashed into the right guardrail. Fortunately, I was unharmed in this frightening accident and the state troopers and tow trucks responded in a timely manner. No other individuals were hurt and there was only minor guardrail damage. My car, however is extensively damaged. I am confident that this was not a result of driver error or unforeseen weather conditions. One of the state troopers that reported to the scene even commented, "everyone out here is driving the same speed as you and no one else experienced any of these wind gusts. ¿ I am an experienced driver who has been driving this car since I purchased it in 2009, with no prior power steering concerns or issues. My car was well maintained and a week before the accident, I had it at the dealership for an inspection, alignment and new tires. I intend to file a claim with Toyota.
Engine hard starts - no starts - or extended starts. Problem is random occurring 2 to 3 times a week. Happens whether engine is warm or cold. This problem has been going on for 2 years now. Toyota can not find a problem with the car.
In 2013, we discovered that my 2009 Toyota Corolla s was using excessive oil. We reported this to our local dealership service department and they added a note to my service record, but nothing was done about it. Since we always have our service done there, and I have the oil changed long before it's due, we don't normally check the oil ourselves. However, while washing the car on Sunday, 03/08/2015, my husband checked it and had to put in 1-1/2 quarts of oil. On Monday, 03/09/2015, I took the car in for an oil change and apprised the service department again of the excessive oil use. They again made a note to my service record. The service tech told me she had had a lot of cars in with the same problem and that Toyota did not have a fix for it. She said mine was not one listed as having this problem, but it is. She also stated that they had to put in 1-1/2 quarts of oil. I was advised to bring it back in for a check at the next 1,100 miles. The worst part is that my car was still under warranty when first reported. Warranty has now expired so if my engine blows I could be looking at thousands of dollars to have my engine replaced!!!!! shame on you, Toyota!!! I thought I had purchased a trustworthy vehicle from a trustworthy manufacturer!.
Vehicle lost power steering on freeway, all electronic components shut down and I was stranded on the side of the freeway. The car would not start, after $3200. 00 in repairs, the mechanic said the pistons looked like they were from a 30 year old car. Regular oil changes, well maintained, this car is not reliable!.
Car would not start, kept cranking, some times would sputter. After 10 minutes or so of repeatedly trying finally it started but sputtered severely for about 30 seconds then rev up normally. Drove to dealer. Had to pay for diagnostic fee of $110 + $10. 95 for efi cleaner. Learned symptoms were as stated in tech service bulletin TSB-0182-09 where engine control module (ecm) would cause the engine to misfire terribly. Fix was to have program update and reflash ecm. The efi cleaner added because misfires may foul fuel injectors. Dealer said they would be nice and not charge me for the reflash /update of the ecm. There should have been no charges at all. I hear 8 years warranty on ecm-what does that include, only flash updates and not diagnostic fees? four recalls and now this. What's next for my 2009 Corolla with <14,000 miles and just 7 months out of warranty. Shame on Toyota.
Driving on a straight interstate. Speed limit was 70 mph. Road surface was wet. Drove over water, engine abruptly surged, similar to pushing accelerator to floor. Front end veered abruptly left. I applied brakes. Car spun backwards. Rear right wheel made contact with the metal cable-type barrier on left side of highway.
I have had this Corolla for about 3 years, average about 700 miles per week - drive it daily. I have had no significant issues with it until the past month or so in which I have experienced two "sudden acceleration" events. In both cases I was traveling at a very low speed, about 10 mph or so in parking lots. While coasting / braking with my foot on the brake pedal, suddenly it was as if the brake pedal turned into an accelerator pedal! I felt all of the back-pressure the brake pedal normally has leave and it went almost completely down to the floor. At the very same instant the engine revved and began to accelerate and the car "leaped" forward. In both cases this lasted only a few seconds then things went back to normal. There were no indicator lights on the panel warning of anything wrong. In both cases my foot was clearly on the brake pedal and nowhere near the accelerator pedal. I visually inspected the floor mat and there was absolutely no interference between it and the accelerator pedal. This car has already had all of Toyota's "recall" remedies applied to it and could be easily ascertained by examining the maintenance records at butler Toyota of macon, georgia. I would like it if someone could examine the car's computer (not the Toyota people for obvious reasons)to see if these events were recorded or not. Until now I have liked this car very much in every way. However, considering all of the recent reports and now my personal experiences twice I am very much concerned about the car's safety.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while the oil was being changed by an authorized dealer, he was informed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the front passenger side wheel was shaking and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000. Updated 03/21/2012.
Bought used 2009 toyotoa Corolla (5 speed manual clutch) vehicle in mid 2011. Noticed that the gas pedal, break and clutch are oddly very close, and gas pedal seems to stick, which seems to cause error in shifting/ acceleration/ DE-acceleration, especially when using in between gears. Not sure what that is all about, or whether or not there has been a prior complaint about this or recall, but I think it should be brought to the attention and fixed by Toyota for safety reasons.
This accident happened in 2011. Vehicle accelerated itself while exiting the freeway. Ended up side swiping the ramp and finally got it to stop using emergency brake. Luckily stopped before crashing into the wall. Toyota investigator came to take edr report but didn't admit the problem of the vehicle. Vehicle was left alone and not fixed for days so they can investigate. I was expecting them to provide answers but I ended up fixing my car with my insurance. They didn't do anything after getting the data out of my vehicle.
2009 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states several problems with vehicle the consumer stated the vehicle maintained speed of travel even after his foot was removed from the accelerator pedal. Travel speed decreased only after the vehicles regular brake had been removed. There was a spike in the rpm under normal driving conditions without change in pressure applied to the accelerator pedal. Also, there was erratic idling while the vehicle was in park without the consumer touching the accelerator pedal. The consumer continued to experience problems with the accelerator pedal after the recall was performed.
Batesville, in, 6 pm, dry, level ground started after 2 hr. Standing, exited lot to stop sign, braked; engine raced against brake, slowed when shifted d-n-d with brake applied. After two blocks, at red signal, did it again. Eight subsequent occurrences, most recent involving " redlining" of the tachometer and inability to retard by the means given above. Four of these have occurred in the past seven weeks. Present mileage 16677.
Even when the car was new I always noticed that there are times when I am slowing down to stop and put on the brakes, I feel the car surges before it stops. We complained about it that time when the camry/Lexus floor mat incidents were in the news. I think there was a recall for that and our brakes were fixed by the dealership. But the problem persists to this day. I also feel an engine surge on my sister's new 2013 Corolla.
2009 Toyota Corolla car was recalled for brake problem. When I have the below problem, the brakes will not stop the car. Engine revs up for no reason when the car is stopped. In my case, all engine speed ups occurred when I was stopped, and my foot was on the brake. It has happened about 10 times since I have owned the car. The last time it occurred, I was stopped at a stop sign, and the engine sped up and forced me into the intersection, where I ran into the side of a pickup. The engine has sped up when I first started the car, and the car was in park, and my foot on the brake. Toyota has looked at my car and said there is nothing wrong with it. Toyota said that I had an after market floor mat on the drivers side and that is a no/no. When the engine sped up with me driving, there was no mat on the driver side floor, except the Toyota mat and it was restrained by the clips. Do car manufactures ever look at comments made my their customers? in my case, I was told no.
