1 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2017

While driving on a street named hamner this afternoon on a warm day in the city of norco with clear skies traveling approximately 15 mph my 2010 Corolla did not stop at a distance of about 15 feet when I applied the brake pedal and that caused me to hit another vehicle. The brake system failure which felt like the anti-lock brake system where the brakes did not engage but rather made a pulsating movement against my rotors caused my vehicle to keep moving and inevitably I could not stop my vehicle. On several occasions I have brought this issue up to Toyota service departments at numerous dealers in the past years and I was given no solutions. The explanation after showing the technicians was that it was normal and should not be a problem. This brake issue caused me to not have braking system power to safely come to a stop prior to the collision today. I believe that Toyota is liable for the failure in the brake system including but not limited to the damage created today to not only my vehicle but also to the vehicle to which this accident today involved including any known or unknown injuries incurred. Please let me know what I can do to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

8 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

I was driving and the person in front of me had hit their brakes due to the cars in front of them hitting the brakes due to a red light. I then hit my brakes as well and the car didn't stop, I pumped the brakes a few times and still had no brakes. My husband had panicked and pulled the emergency brake and the car still did not stop. My car then hit the vehicle in front of us which in turn cause a chain reaction for the other 3 vehicles involved. If my brakes would not have failed, I would have been able to stop in time before smashing into the back of the vehicle in front of me. My car is now a "total loss" and I am out of a vehicle. I am just glad that no one was seriously hurt.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2010

I just received a recall notice from Toyota concerning a 19 state recall of 'ssc 90h - certain 2009-2010 Corolla and Corolla matrix brake system vacuum port special service campaign". This notice advises (under "what is the condition"? "if the vehicle is operated under extremely low temperatures, there is a possibility that condensed moisture from a positive crankcase ventilation (pvc) port may seep into the brake system vacuum port ("port") and freeze. The port is located inside the intake manifold and provides vacuum assist for the brakes. Should this condition continue, ice may slowly accumulate at the port and in the worst case, ultimately plug the port. As a result, power assist to the brakes would gradually decrease (eventually to zero), and the increased pedal pressure required could lead to greater vehicle stopping distances. " "what should you do?" "if you believe that there is a possibility for your vehicle to be operated in the 19 specified states or in the conditions described above, please contact any authorized Toyota dealer and . . . . " this description of the problem is very subjective ("possibility of condensed moisture. . . ", "ice may slowly accumulate. . . "if you believe there is a possibility for your vehicle to be operated. . . " . I have already operated the vehicle in nevada (one of the 19 states listed). If this is really a safety concern I would think that all vehicles should be either a) fixed with the redesigned air intake connector or b) provide the vehicle with a safety warning sticker (placed prominently on the steering wheel?) that advises the driver that this vehicle has not been fitted with the redesigned air intake connector and that vacuum brake failure may occur whenever the outside temperature is below x degrees f (y degrees c) for periods greater than I hours. Without specifics I don't know if I should receive this new part, and if I elect not to, how do I pass on the possible extended low temperature impact to future owner(s)?.

13 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving at approximate speeds of 20-25 mph and approaching a traffic stop. As he proceeded to accelerate from the stop, the vehicle would not respond. Suddenly, there was an unusual increase in engine rpms and the vehicle abnormally accelerated at a rapid rate of speed. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where repairs were made under NHTSA recall campaign id number 10v023000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal). In addition, the contact stated when applying the brakes, he would hear a loud unusual noise. The dealer was unable to duplicate the brake failure and there were no further repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 3,865 and the current mileage was 3,904.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Toyota 2010 Corolla brake system failed. The emergency brake went on , while I was driving without me doing anything. The odometer stopped working, brake, check-engine, panic mode and airbag system lights went on. The failure has occurred twice already, first starting as a brake failure, then almost leading to the accident when everything failed at once. Almost got into an accident and I couldn't accelerate in the car. I took the car to the dealership and they gave me run around, they still don't know how to fix it or what's wrong with it. This car is beyond unsafe to drive, luckily it didn't lead to an accident and injuries both to me and other drivers.

15 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

In my 2010 Toyota Corolla xle with 2382 miles on it, I experienced brake failure and difficulty steering while descending down a slight grade. There was no braking action when I pushed the brake pedal as far as it could go. Simultaneously heard a loud scraping sound and detected an odor. Reported incident to the dealer immediately.

16 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2010

I am filing this report to have documentation for my records. It is on my 2010 Corolla now having complete brake failure issues. It started on Feb. 21,2010. The brakes started to go completely to the floor. On February 24, the brakes went completely to the floor at a 5 way intersection, and I went through a stop light. I could not stop the car. That same day I went through a stop sign and had to jam on my emergency brake, so I didn't go onto a major traveled route in vermont. This is the same problem I reported to the NHTSA on 12/12/09. The odi number is 10295431. I would like to know what was done with that complaint? did it ever get forwarded to mr. Toyodo himself, congress (for the hearings?). I had complete brake failure issues for over 14 months with my 2009 Corolla. What did you do with that information? the only recall I saw was for the prius? what a joke! now my 2010 Corolla has complete brake failure. Again Toyota gets away with covering up their mistakes, and your agency does nothing. The same as covering up the new pedal recall not correcting the issue of acceleration (my odi number for this is 10314851). I have all my records and am showing them to the media (national & local). I am stating below the incident date for my current car brake failure issues is February 21st. I am however stating injuries and reported to the police. I had an acceleration incident on January 18, 2010 with my 2009 Corolla . During the incident I had complete brake failure and was injured. I did report it to the police.

17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

I purchased a new Toyota Corolla in Jan 2010. I took it to the dealer for gas pedal recall in the first week of Feb. After that I started facing brake issues. One day my car moved few inches back on uphill in spite of me applying the brakes. I called the dealer right away. They refused to take a look the same day as they did not have time. Next morning the brakes failed again when I was driving downhill resulting in me hitting the car infront. I again took my car to the dealer. After test driving they tell me that they can not repro the problem. The issue with the brake is an intermittent one. It does not always happen, but when it does it is very dangerous.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

2010 Toyota Corolla brake failure which was reported to dealership caused an accident with my parents. Dealership claimed the reviewed brakes and there was no issue. My father reported to officer that brakes did not work.

19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I have Toyota Corolla 2010, bought in August 2009. I had a brake problem with this car existed from the beginning. My problem with brake was first like a suspicious case and initially unbelievable for me. That's why I was doubt at first! I never believed 2010 Corolla (I am owner) could have this problem. So I put off with that for a while. However, I realized the fact after traveling to California to visit my sister and I rented a car (Volkswagen) over there. When I was driving the car, I found out how sharp the brake of the car was. At that time I felt the difference between sharp and properly-working brake and failed brake. Other unusual experience with this Corolla is that when I was driving the car in uneven roads the brake was going down completely with generation of such odd sounds like cracking of two pieces together! therefore I realized something really wrong with the brake. The brake being weak and not working properly. I called Toyota dealer and told them the problem. Also, in tri-monthly schedules for checking the car, I told them I do not like the brake, it is not good, not sharp, slow to action, but they told me we checked everything and all is fine! nothing done to fix the brake failure. Unfortunately there are no any records of these conversations to the best of my knowledge, just I have a receipt that shows I brought the car for checking and they checked it. After that, I continue to driving, but once again, I realized the problem still exists. My next appointment for bringing the car for checking was February 7th on Sunday. I was going to tell them I can not stand with this problem and I am concern about this, but unfortunately I got an accident on Feb 2th. I was in slow line, my speed was slow (not more than 25m/h), however, when the car ahead of me stopped, I could not stopped correspondingly due to pre-existing brake failure. I hit the rear of the car. Fortunately the police officers mentioned the issue of "brake failure" in their report.

20 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

Failure of brakes when going over bumps in the road. This is an ongoing problem that has happened quite frequently. I live on a dirt road which is wash-board bumpy. I also experience the same problem pulling into my parking spot at work which is bumpy. The brakes fail and the car makes a noise when going over the bumps. After the bumps, it corrects itself. No cars I have driven over the same conditions has exhibited this problem. I heard about the prius problem and that was the exact problem I had experienced. I am not sure how long it has happened, or how many miles I had on the car when I noticed it the first time. All I know is that it is still happening.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that when driving in traffic, she moved forward and tried to depress the brake pedal. She did not speak with the dealer or the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date for the brake failure. . The current mileage was approximately 2,400. The failure mileage was 1,239.

22 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2009

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla, but because I live in texas, I am not part of the recall to have a newly designed intake air connector to relocate the brake system vacuum port. I am afraid that if I go to colorado this winter as planned, I will have brake failure. Why does the recall not extend to all 2010 Toyota Corollas???.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that his vehicle has been experiencing recurring brake and steering failures.
