36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

I purchased my 2010 Toyota Corolla in October 2010, about a month later I began noticing problems with my brakes. Pressing the brakes there is a slight acceleration of the vehicle, taking my foot off the brake the car also accelerates before slowing down, I have no control over the acceleration. To this day, the brakes still regularly accelerate. Others who have driven my car immediately experience the brake acceleration and are very uncomfortable driving my car. I have been to the dealer numerous times when the problems began but they did not fix the problems (I did keep the work order receipts), I have not been to the dealer recently.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

When using brakes I feel grinding or scrubbing sound, and car would vibrate and slow to stop, pulling car toward left when stopping. I took it to Toyota dealer I bought it from, reported complaint asked them to check brakes,(this was with my routine service care). After they finished with call I had to ask about my brake complaint the man said nothing wrong,I told him that it didn't happen every time I used brakes but frequently. Also I was not using car alot due to injury. I'm not sure about exact miles or time frame but I was still under my 2 year free service plan. Then a month after my service plan ended I had car serviced, I complained again about brakes, after they finished with my car, I had to ask again about my brakes the man said "OH,they need to be changed but it can wait to next service time and you will need tires then. I didn't wait to next service time, due to planned to have surgery. I got brakes changed at local brake shop, even after that, I still have times brakes grind etc. . . Brakes changed a year ago and the grinding getting worse. I just drive to take son to and from school and ball, doctor appts. My older son went to get groceries for me yesterday he said my steering wheel shaking. I'm disappointed with the service department, I don't feel like they listened or even checked the brakes because I had to ask the findings, he would say what I stated above but he does not go back to garage area.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

I have a Toyota Corolla 2010,I had it since June 2010, . I went through a major car accident on hw 1 CA @ 8:45 am on Tuesday which was a sunny, clear , not foggy nor rainy day (weather condition was perfect),I was driving on 63 mph (normal speed is 65) on the fast left lane and suddenly I felt that the left front tire is veering the car into a different direction acting as if it below up (but it didn't) and my car is veering to the left , my steering wheel is locked and is not responding at all when trying to change the car directionto the right. There was no way to drive the car in a straight line. The steering wheel failed completely to respond to any attempt to turn it to the right in an attempt to gain control over the car and attempting to drive it in straight line. Brakes as well were not responding. All attempts to stop the car or turn it to the right to avoid bumping the rails and keep it straight in the lane failed. I completely lost control over the car & it started fishtailing in the front. The car didn't stop until it bumped into the guarding rail, at this moment the car just stopped and it took the car more than 20 feed to automatically stop by it self. I failed to stop it. At this moment the car corrected its direction &went in straight line direction scrubbing against the rail completely damaging the entire left side of the car before it stall. Then all the dash board lights and car sounds went on and the car stalled. The car was not in a drivable condition so I had to tow it away. I have a witness who described my accident saying that my car kept swerving to the left & was ambiguously uncontrolled, he was the one that took care of me after the car bumped the rail. This accident is a life threatening accident not only for me but also for others on the hw. I was lucky it happened on my way home after I dropped off my son to school ,the two car seats I had in the car were damaged, the car damage was estimated by $10,000. I suffer from a severe pain.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in a stopped position, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard. On two occasions, the vehicle moved forward when the brakes were engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was designed to lose pressure and the brake pedal to fade. The dealer also stated that there was no remedy for the problem. Another dealer confirmed that information. The failure mileage was 600. Updated 01/24/11 updated 04/21/11.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated when depressing the brakes and releasing, there was an abnormal clunk noise. The noise had not caused a defect in the vehicle but the contact was concerned that in the future, the vehicle could possibly exhibit a braking failure. The dealer advised there were no failures within the braking system. The vehicle was not repaired. A failure did not exist in the vehicle but was noticed when the vehicle had only accrued 1 mile. The current mileage was unknown.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2010

I was sitting at a stoplight with my foot on the brake waiting for the light to change to green when suddenly the vehicle surged forward into the back end of vehicle in front of me resulting in damage to my front end and very minor damage to other vehicle. No one was injured.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

The dealer where ran a diagnostic test and stated they could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 4,000.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated when driving at approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel would not stay balanced in a straight line. The vehicle would veer in either direction. The contact stated the failure was worse when driving in snow or windy weather conditions. The dealer advised the vehicle was operating as designed. The failure persisted. The dealer test drove and was able to duplicate the failure. An investigator was sent on behalf of the manufacturer to further inspect the failure. The investigator performed a visual inspection and advised there were no failures. In addition, the contact stated the brakes would feel spongy and would often fall farther into the floorboard than normal. The contact would have to apply steady, repeated pressure in order for them to work properly. The dealer advised there were no failures within the brake system. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 500 and the current mileage was approximately 2,100.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

Since about a month after purchasing my 2010 Toyota Corolla in April of 2010 I have had several experiences with the brakes when stopping on multiple surface types, including wet road, uneven surface and under “normal conditions. € the brakes make a grinding sound and seem to skip as I push down, slowing my braking time and making me feel like i’m going to not be able to stop. The grinding was so severe that it vibrated though my leg. My vehicle is no longer under warranty however I did take it into the dealership while it was covered and they informed me that in order to repair it they would need to duplicate the problem while driving the vehicle. Of course they weren’t able to make it happen, did a brake inspection and said it was all just fine. Shortly after this visit, the brakes did the same grinding when stopping as had happened before. I am a conscientious driver and treat my vehicle gently and there is no reason this should be happening to a brand new car. We need more attention placed on this problem and a recall must be issued before there are multiple casualties. Also what I don't understand is how there was a recall for the 2010 Corolla for a similar issue with the brakes but they excluded certain states that are in proximity to states where vehicles were recalled. How can they be sure other vehicles weren't affected?.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

Anti-lock brakes go into a chatter, when wet, at low speeds, and do not stop the car very well. This has happened on more than one occasion.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla with 19,000 miles. I am the original owner. I have taken the car in twice for a problem with the brakes. I have owned many cars but none have ever felt so unresponsive when you hit the brakes, especially in the event of a fast stop. The dealers tell me this is normal for vacuum assisted brakes. A brake pedal that goes almost to the floor when stopping and requires dangerous distances to fully stop is not normal, and if Toyota has designed the system to function like this they have a bad design for a major vehicle safety function. The braking system in the 2009 Toyota Corolla may be a dangerous design flaw. You may need to evaluate this function of the Toyota.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While driving at speeds of 35 mph, the contact abruptly depressed the brakes but the vehicle would not respond. The contact was able to stop the vehicle within moments. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 8,500 and the current mileage was 8,600.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2010

Approximately one week ago, my 2010 Corolla surged forward approximately 6-8 feet after I placed in park in my work parking lot. The tachometer went to above 2000 rpms, and the cars speed went over 20 mph before I was able to jam on the emergency brake. My foot was not on the brake or the gas pedal. I almost hit a tree. My head was thrust backwards. Three hours later the paramedics had to come to my office and rush me to the hospital as I had a tia as a result. This is the third acceleration incident with my vehicle since February 12th. The dealership has even had a specialist look at my car, and they said nothing is wrong with it. I brought the car back to the dealership today because of the above incident. The general service manager said to me quote unquote "we can find nothing wrong with your vehicle, and can not verify your complaint. You have brought the car to us four times for this same acceleration problem and there is nothing wrong with your car. We have not charged you any of these times. If you bring it to us again for the same problem, we are going to have to bill you for our time. They also charged me for the rental car today. He also stated that the media is blowing this way out of proportion, and that there is nothing wrong with any of the Toyota vehicles. He said the problem is one of two things. I asked him what those two things were. He stated that they are the drivers are bad drivers and the other is it is fraud. So I said are you implying I am a lier or a bad driver and he refused to answer. I then said I am neither of the two and that I resented the implication to both. I told him my car is a death mobile and unsafe to drive, and also that I had been hurt 3 or 4 times already.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that when she driving in the city at 30-40 mph, the vehicle would downshift when she took her foot off the accelerator pedal; it would slow down as well as if the brake pedal was being depressed. Also, the contact noticed that when she attempted to brake, the abs would suddenly activate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership three times for the downshifting problem but the dealer stated that the problem was normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for the braking problem but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 5,400. The failure mileage was approximately 50.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

In trying to stop a 2010 Toyota (with a manual transmission) the brakes had a metallic rattle as they engaged, then almost immediately they became dis-engaged causing the car to move forward about five feet before re-engaging and stopping the car. During this event the brakes had been applied at all times and the clutch depressed.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

While my husband was driving my 2010 Toyota Corolla (purchased on 9/10/09) on miramar, pkwy in miramar, florida, at 45 miles per hour a truck cut him off. When he hit the brakes to stop, the abs locking system skipped and never fully stopped? had the truck not sped up to help him avoid hitting him, he could have been seriously hurt or even killed. I have taken the car to the dealership for a scratching sound (abs) since 2 weeks of purchase (500 miles). On the first trip back to the dealership on 9/25/09, after 5 days and an hour and 1/2 driving with one of the mechanics, I was told that there was nothing they could do about the anti locking system, that is just the way they are. It has since been at the dealership 5 different times since date of purchase for a total of 15 days that I have counted for the same scratching noise and multiple other things, such as the steering, the tires rattling and balancing issues. When I called the dealership today (3/11/10) I was told by the service manager that my husband should bring in the car to try and duplicate the abs braking system not working. Does he have to duplicate almost getting into a fatal accident in order for Toyota to fix the braking problem? I think not. I was then told that they can give me a prius as a loaner. Wow!!!! I traded in a 2002 BMW x5 for the reliable safe Corolla. What a huge mistake.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

Driving 2010 Toyota le on highway, turned off highway, turned to off ramp as power steering allowed car to veer to the left side of the highway. As the car approached the stop sign, the foot brake was applied, and felt spongy and the car suddenly veered to the left side of the road and came to a stop facing oncoming traffic which could have caused an accident. Contacted the dealership that told me to bring the car in for inspection. An appointment was made for today.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Since purchasing this car, the brakes have "locked up" occasionally. We took the car to Toyota to have this checked last week; they performed two recalls and stated that the car was driving properly. Since then, the brakes have locked up twice. I liken it to how your car feels when there is low traction - but the low traction light does not come on and I am not driving on ice, gravel, etc. I am always on clear asphalt. The car makes a "metallic humming" sound and the brakes lock up for approximately 4-5 seconds, during which time I cannot stop. Luckily, 90% of the time when this happens, there is no one in front of me; however, last week I was driving in downtown pittsburgh and I slid into the intersection.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While stopped at a stop sign the vehicle rmp went up to 3,000 she had to park the vehicle for a while for it to slow down. She had experienced these failure several times. The contact stated that a few weeks after she purchased the vehicle she noticed the brakes were slow to respond when she drove 35 mph over speed bumps or any holes. She took the vehicle to the dealer twice. The dealer stated the vehicle had been test driven and they could not duplicate the failures. The failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Whenever the contact applied the brakes, she noticed that the brake pedal had to be pushed to the floor in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was working properly. The current and failure mileages were 2500.

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

Multiple incidents. . . The three most recent occurred on 2/8, 2/10, and 2/15 of 2010. This problem has been happening since we purchased the car, I figured it was just because it was a new vehicle and needed driven (broken in) so the brakes would find their best working levels. The problem occurs when driving, at any speed, and in all road conditions. The incident on 2/8 my wife was driving and only going about 5-8 mph. As she made a turn the car proceeded to shutter and the low traction light again came on, no braking was available during this incident, but luckily she was able to come to a stop before hitting another vehicle. On 2/10 I was going to take this car to finally have them fix the problem and in (very safe) good driving conditions I experienced what my wife had explained that the car has been doing for the better of 6 months. As you proceed to come to a stop the car accelerates upon depressing the brake pedal. When this happens (I have tested this) if you keep the pedal at the same point the car will continue to speed up slowly, but if you take your foot off the brake the car seems to maintain the speed. Now this is where my wife will not drive the car any longer, when you press the brake further down to stop it locks the tires for about a second before the abs even kicks in. Being that this is a cold area and we likely have snow during the winter months I am amazed that if any other Corolla are having this problem they all have not slid off the road. When I experienced this problem on 2/10 I was going to take it to Toyota for service. Never made it, did not trust the vehicle to safely get me to my destination without injury to myself, others, or property. The last incident on 2/15 was the same problem, and at this point my wife will no longer drive the car. This is the vehicle we purchased to keep our newborn safe. . . Looks to have been a poor choice. I finally risked my life and took it to Toyota tonight, we will see what comes of this. Thanks.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While the contact was driving 60 mph using the cruise control the vehicle suddenly accelerated from 60 mph to 70 mph without warning, in order to stop the acceleration the contact had to deactivate the cruise control. The contact also noticed that whenever she applied the brakes they hesitate to engage increasing the stopping distance. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership and there were no prior warnings, the current and failure mileages were 2000. Updated 4/5/10.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I am having a major problem with my brakes in my Toyota Corolla 2010 vehicle it has less then 5,000 miles and yet the brakes have to be practically pushed to the floor to work, they seem to be not working properly , especially on ice cold days. I almost had an accident and let me tell you I am a very cautious driver and am scared that eventually my brakes will not stop and I will be killed or worse yet kill another person by hitting them with my car. I noticed a recall back in August about the same issue but not for cars sold in PA. It gets very cold here too. They should have recalled all of these vehicles before their are lots of deaths.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph. The brake pedal was engaged twice before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated the brake system was functioning properly. The identical failure occurred on a separate occasion. The vehicle is in the process of being taken back to the authorized dealer. The manufacturer has not been notified at this time. The current mileage was 1,493. The failure mileage was approximately 50.

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

Toyota Corolla s 2010 [xxx] with extra stabilizer bar kit, purchased 11-30-09 with delivery in 12/09. 1) approximately 1 month after purchase ,the car starting to veer sharply right then left when driving on the highway, it was/is difficult to control requiring a tight grip on the wheel. It feels like strong winds are moving the car but winds are absent and road conditions are normal. This event comes and goes unexpectedly, generally lasts the duration of my commute once started, sometimes occurs with the tire pressure gauge but not always, sometimes occurs after rapid braking. It does not feel like an alignment or balance problem, the car darts from one end of the lane, to the median of the lane on its own. On this date 2-24-10 my local dealership filled the tires, and made a slight change to the left alignment they could not duplicate the problem and stated "this could be a matter of personal preferences" regarding how I felt the car drove when this occurred. The Toyota manager also told me today that they understand "there could be a problem but they have no direction on how to repair it. " when asked then if he could guarantee my safety and that this would not occur again he stated no, but there was nothing for him to do. No injuries to date. I do not feel Toyota is making reasonable efforts to quickly eliminate this problem, acknowledge a problem, and do not wish to resolve this with statements regarding my personal preference for the drive, and since this in their opinion is not reproducible for them it is not a viable problem for them to repair. 2) on approximately 2-11-10 I had to use my brakes in an emergency situation in which my brakes were temporally non-response. I had to downshift the gears, remove my foot totally from the gas pedal ,and maneuvered the car away from the other stopped car. No abs was felt, the brake pedal was depressed fully, this occurred at hwy speeds. No acknowledgement of problem or remedy proposed by toy currently.

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

I was driving slowly cause of snowy conditions, I applied the brakes gently starting almost 20 -30 ft before reaching the vehicle in front of me, to make a stop but there was no response and the car just rolled on to hit a Ford SUV. With the brake fully depressed I was almost 10 feet away from the vehicle in front. No one was injured. The car did not swing or skid, it went straight. My car front bumper and hood was damaged. This is my first accident in my driving career. I took my car to the dealer, and lodged a complaint with Toyota.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

I own a 2010 Toyota Corolla s. Ocassionally when I'm braking, my car doesn't want to brake. It makes a grinding feeling under my foot. Then I have to quickly apply the brake again to get the car to stop. I thought it was just a fluke at first or due to the road being wet, but it happened again today, and the pavement was dry. Luckily I don't wait until the last second to brake, and I don't tailgate.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

I have felt that there is a problem with the brakes of my 2010 Toyota Corolla since shortly after I bought it. The brakes vibrate or pulsate without warning. It seems that the abs is activated for no reason. I am not stopping short and the road has not been slippery . I brought the car to the dealer and they claimed that there is nothing wrong with the brakes. Another problem I have noticed with the brakes is that they seem to grind when I am braking over bumpy surfaces. It happens with out warning, I never know when it will occur. I called the dealer and the mechanic said it is just the abs, nothing to worry about. The problem seem similar to the prius brake complaints. Finally, I notice that sometimes as I am stopping that the brakes seem to slip a little but then take hold.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

When I quickly braked, the brakes shuddered and made a loud scraping noise. I noticed a slower response after pressing on the brake pedal. It has happened a few times before this incident. Even driving on the highway, there is a noticeable amount of vibration coming from the brake pedal.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

1) events leading up to failure: I purchased a new 2010 Toyota Corolla on Jan 1st 2010. I drove the car for 1 approximately 1 month before experiencing problems with the brake/acceleration. On Jan 30, 2010 I noticed that the car would sometimes accelerate initially before braking when I hit the brake. On Feb 2, 2010 I was involved in a collision on interstate 5 just after the la jolla village dr entrance. Traffic was heavy, moving at an average speed of 20mph. When the car in front of me stopped, I hit the brake and my car accelerated into the back of the car in front of me. The car is currently undrivable and in the repair shop.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

Brakes unresponsive, requires depression of pedal to the floorboard before brakes begin engaging. Occurs at all speeds. Dealer adjusted brakes and bled lines and this issue continues. I was told that the braking system is different than what I am used to and I have to get used to it.

68 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

Toyota Corolla brakes needs to pressed forcefully to stop the car abruptly. Also when I slightly put the foot on the brake the car surges for about 1 second. This has occurred to me everytime I drive so that I have to press the brakes hard when I need to come to a stop.

69 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

I was going to work when my brakes stopped working, steering wheel locked, and car accelerated straight into a fence. Both my mother and I were injured. I got a Toyota specialist to look at the car, it took them three and a half weeks after the accident to send that specialist to look at the car. He then said the car was safe to drive. After I got my car back from the body shop I took the car to the Toyota dealership where I got it to get the brakes fixed and the accelerator pedal fixed. I have gone twice already and my brakes still aint fixed and giving me problem.

70 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

I have been taking my Corolla to the dealership almost every week since 01/28/2010 and every week I complained about how the car was drifting side to side and how on low windy days I have to fight the steering wheel to keep it in its lane at speeds above 65mph. And every time I take it over there they say "well the car is working to factory standards" and they will send me on my way. I have had my brakes bled and my car alignment done twice and the car only has 2000+ miles on it. So I took the car back to the dealership from where I bought it and they gave me this cust states vehicle is all over the road at highway speeds like the computer is driving the car on its own ~|~performed health check on all systems. No trouble codes stored. Test drove vehicle on 10 mile trip and ~|~vehicle performed as designed at this time. Please direct customer to Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 if they have any other questions. So I took the car back and called the # to them and they said since the tech could not find the problem then there is no problem. Bull. So on 03/01/2010 I took my car back in to the dealership to have someone go on a drive with me and I made sure it was a windy day so they can see how hard it is to keep the car centered in its lane. The mechanic that went with me said OH I see what you are talking about he even had a hard time keeping the car from wondering off. So he said well it could be the tires are not to the right pounds. I said nope I had the air done to factory standards of 35psi all around. So he said he will need the car for over a day and scheduled appt for me to come in I took it back on 03/03/2010 and haven't had my car back since then. They still have my car in the shop as I type. So there is definitely a problem with the car. I feel like I can hurt or even kill someone in the car because of it. I have had more problems with this car and its not even 60 days old yet. Plus I already had the recall done on it too.
