The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear fuel line was fractured and leaking fuel. The contact was concerned because the fuel line was manufactured with plastic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician stated that the fuel line would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

On 11/9/2010 at 5:30 p. M. , my 2005 Toyota Corolla ce stalled on I-87 (NY state thruway--major deegan) in the bronx as it was being driven at 55 miles per hour. The car was operating normally when I left work in the bronx 20 min before. All of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car lost all power. The oil and battery lights also came on. I put on my hazards and managed to get from left lane to shoulder. The car stopped completely before I could get it off the highway and the back end of car was slightly
on the road. I called aaa and they called the official company who has to tow cars off the thruway. No truck arrived for a long time--two passers by stopped and helped me push car onto shoulder. The car lights dimmed and eventually went out. The car had plenty of fuel when it was being driven. After the car stopped, the car seemed electrically dead and would not turn over at all. There was no sound at all
or any cranking or sputtering. It seemed that the car lost all power and I was only able to get it off the road due to its momentum from being in motion. When no truck arrived after 45 minutes, I called 311 for assistance (nyc help line) and they contacted police who came and called another truck and sat with me with their lights on until tow truck arrived around 6:50 pm. It was towed to official towing station in bronx. The repair people told me the next day it might be due to an electrical problem. My car is under recall for the engine control module (ecm). The Toyota dealers in bronx said cars don't stall because of this problem and I would have to pay to have my car towed there to have it checked. I wanted them to look at it to see if ecm was the problem. On 11/11, when I called the official towing station to have car towed out, they said it was fuel pump and wanted 1100-1200$ to fix it. As of today, I am having the car towed to a local repair station where I leave to see if they can diagnose the problem and let me know what caused the stall.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the service engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. A few days later, the service engine light illuminated again so the vehicle was taken back to the dealership. The dealer stated that there was a hole in the fuel line and wires under the hood were chewed away. The current and failure mileages were unknown.
On July 29, 2008 I went to get into my 2007 Toyota Corolla and smelled gas. I crouched down to look under the car and noticed a gas leak coming from the gas line under the gas tank. I got up to walk into the garage and when I closed the car door, the car exploded into flames. The explosion pushed me into the garage and I was able to get the garage door closed. The car was a total loss. After looking at other 2007 Toyota Corolla's it seems there is a defect in the fuel line under the car. The fuel line is the same consistency as a radiator hose and is the lowest hanging structure under the car, with an area that is not protected and could very well get punctured by normal road conditions causing a gas leak in the fuel line which is very dangerous, obviously, since ours exploded into flames and burned so hot that it melted the top of the engine. Toyota maintained no blame in this and did nothing to correct the problem.

1- an undetectable event caused a small hole in the fuel line of a Toyota Corolla. The air in the garage where the car was parked overnight was permeated with the odor of gasoline, and introduced the real possibility of an explosion. 2- the failure is a weakness in the strength and durability of the fuel line of Toyota Corollas. The fuel line had a small puncture and filled the confined area with gasoline vapor. 3 - Toyota required a replacement of the fuel line and gas tank, claiming that a rodent chewed through the fuel line. The new gas tank has the same design flaws and weaknesses as the old gas tank and can easily be punctured. Fuel line problems have happened in more than one Toyota Corolla that the company has owned; one of which burst into flames. (these are to be the subjects of separate complaints. ) that a rodent (or any other insignificant cause) may damage a fuel line in this way is a serious weakness that presents a clear danger to anyone owning and driving this car. Toyota customer service refused to acknowledge or escalate this as a problem to management. The Toyota dealer also refused to recognize this fire hazard as a problem and communicated that it should be accepted as normal. The old part is currently available.

The vehicle caught on fire on October 6, 2005. The vehicle wasn't driven any different before this incident happened. The vehicle had been sitting for about two hours before it caught on fire. The fire chief did an inspection on October 7, 2005, and he concluded that it was a fuel line break. She contacted the dealership and the manufacturer and told them what happened, they told her that someone would come out and inspect the vehicle. She felt that they were ignoring her because no one came out and inspected the vehicle yet. She received a letter after she contacted the manufacturer from Toyota, but the letter was addressed to someone else, and it explained the same type of problem that she had. The insurance company inspected vehicle but she did not know what their findings were. She only has the estimate that they sent her. Updated 11/16/2005.
1- there was an odor of gasoline in the car. 2- smoke came in from dashboard vents; seconds after that the brakes failed; flames came in through the dashboard vents then the car burst into flames causing the driver to have to leap from the vehicle while it was in motion. Moments later the car exploded and was fully engulfed in flames. 3 - the car was unrecognizable after the explosion and completely totaled. The tires and all non-metal parts of the car were gone. We have requested a report as to the cause of the problem from the Toyota dealer and from Toyota. To date, there has been no written response or acknowledgement of this event. The charred remains of the automobile were reviewed by a Toyota representative, and afterward the Toyota dealer communicated verbally that it was impossible to tell the cause of the explosion. This complaint is being filed now as there have been problems with fuel lines in other subsequently owned Corollas; and that Toyota and the Toyota dealership have indicated no concern for the serious Corolla fuel line problems that presents a clear danger to anyone owning and driving this car.
When gas is pumped into the fuel tank(if overfilled, the gas would not go to ground, it would go to bottom vehicle shut off valve did not operate, dealer contacted and cannot remedy the problem, and problem still exists. Provide further information.
