26 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

01/02/2014 at 7:15am: vehicle idled normally for approx 15 minutes while I cleared snow from driveway. I entered vehicle, put my foot on the brake and shifted into reverse. Accelerator suddenly went to full throttle. I managed to shift back into park and the engine rpm increased to red-line level. I shut off the ignition and the engine stopped. I re-started the vehicle a minute later and everything seemed to be fine. I checked the floor mat which was not close to the accelerator pedal. At least 4" away. My foot never depressed the pedal. I am a mechanical designer and I am convinced that this was not a mechanical issue. I never experienced any accelerator issues previous to this event. I am scheduling an appointment with my local dealer to look into this.

29 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/09/2011

At speeds generally above 40 mph the engine constantly surges. It surges even while on cruise control. The surges are accompanied by a fluctuation of 400 rpms. One one occasion, I was slowing in traffic on the highway while it was surging - I had to apply more pressure on the brakes as at that very moment it was on an increase in rpm's.

30 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

Since leasing this brand new 2011 Corolla, I noticed that at speeds between 40mph and 60mph the car would feel as if it was decelerating, akin to being buffeted by strong headwinds, although the speed did not reflect it. I drive mostly around a city that has many zones where the speed limit is 40mph, so I was experiencing this phenomenon a lot. By the time I had 250 miles on the car, I knew that it was not just a quirk, and I made an appointment to take the car to the service department at the dealership. The person who booked me in for service said that he had never heard about this issue, but I had done some research and saw that many 2011 Corolla owners are complaining of the same problem. I told him to check online. I also complained about appalling mileage - I was averaging less than 20mpg - and he said that he would get their technicians to focus on the two issues. Within 30 minutes he was back to say that not only had he found the deceleration issue online, he found it on Toyota's own service website, and he told me that the company had issued an official service bulletin. It is not showing that one was issued on this site, but I have seen it, and the dealership were able to reprogram the car's computer (they called it a "flash"). The conclusion was that the poor gas mileage was being caused by the mistiming, and should be addressed by the software update. If you are experiencing this issue, call your dealership and demand that they find the bulletin on Toyota's own site. It's there! my car is now driving much better and the gas mileage is improving. . . Slowly.

31 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

32 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

I purchased my 2011 Toyota s model on July 4th 2011. On the drive home I noticed a dragging feeling but thought maybe it was me at first getting used to the car. But on a daily basis the car would randomly pull back, so I started to pay attention and noticed that pretty randomly but mostly between 40 -60 mph the car rpm's would drop anywhere between 200-600 rpm's (quick jump down) and then back up causing the car to drag as if the brake was applied. This is going on a level road at a constant speed - this is not normal an doesn't feel safe. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find the problem (surprise, surprise)! I told them there was definitely a problem and I didn't feel comfortable driving my kids around in it. They asked me to come back and test drive with the technician which I did. The tech noticed and felt the problem- they kept the car for about 1 week and called me back and said Toyota knows of this problem and is diligently working on it that it had something to do with a flash drive but that Toyota was being evasive on their answers. I called the dealer back about 2 weeks later and they did not respond to me. This car is so annoying to drive and doesn't feel safe at all. I called Toyota corporate and filed another claim and was told I would be contacted in 48 hours- this did not happen. I am very frustrated, there is obviously a problem here and I have never driven a car that does this. I owned a Corolla dx before and I loved that car but I bought it in 1993. This problem has to get fixed, if they know about it what could be taking so long to come up with solution. Are they going to wait until someone is killed (I. E. The prius situation surging forward)? not acceptable!.

33 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

My new 2011 Corolla le might have a safety defect in the transmission or fuel system. Whether at freeway or local, I can feel the pull-back while driving. Accordingly, the rpm was found to be fluctuated between 100-400rpm dropping instantly (1-2s). It happened a lot. Subsequently, the dealer service technicians duplicated my concern (sudden pull-back). They even found the pull-back (or rpm drops down suddenly) in cruise control at 60 miles. Then they opened the case and got the field technical specialists check this problem. It takes one week and the report said that "other vehicles are checked and same things observed. This vehicle was operated as designed and no repair necessary. " but the weird thing is that the service manager (he is the only one that has communicated between these specialists and me) they told me that they also think something was wrong (possible software). They offered me a couples of month payment credit (700-1000$). And they told the service manager that they can't fix it and have to have that done in japan. It takes a while. Now the service manager recommended me to claim to the Toyota customer service and get my money back. But the Toyota case manager is bad. He insisted that in Toyota's position, nothing was wrong. He declined my request. Now, it is still in the processing. But I am afraid that it is hard to get my money back. I also found the same complaint online. Please have a check. . Read more...

34 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

In April,2011 took car with 32120 miles into dealer for Toyota engine computer recall replacement. . Shortly after replacement app. 50 miles the check engine light came on. I returned to dealer on 5/23/2011 mileage at this time was now 32599 and was told that it would cost app. $77 to fix the problem which was the gas cap which was leaking fumes. I did not have the work done but I did have the gas cap checked at a certified smog station and cap was found to be ok. I was not satisfied with the answers I was receiving so I called Toyota corp. Customer service and explained the problem. I was told that they would contact the dealer and have them call me to fix this problem. Later that day the service manager called and requested that I bring the car in that day and he would have it diagnosed for free to see what the problem was. I took the car in and after a period of time the service tech. Said they found the problem my fuel filler neck and gas cap needed to be replaced due to rust and corrosion at a cost of over $400. I asked if this was covered by Toyota because the car only has 33763 miles and was told no, I live in a dry desert area so I don't see why I'm having a rust and corrision problem. I also asked if this was a common problem and again was told no. The tech. Told me that I needed to leave the car and he needed to order the part. I left the car and went home and I goggled this problem and found that this problem was common enough that Toyota issued a TSB #02206, I also found many other owners that have had the same problem not only with the Corolla but the Toyota camry and tundra. I called back and cancelled the work and picked up the car the next morning. I advised the tech what I found on google but he was not willing to listen. It's not only my feeling but the opinion of the others that this is something Toyota needs to fix as a warranty item recall.
