1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2025

The contact owned a 2006 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while slowly driving into an intersection and turning left at less than 3 mph, the owner of a Ford f-150 coming from the driver's side of the vehicle at 35 mph crashed into their driver's side door. The crash caused the vehicle to slide to a complete stop. None of the air bags deployed. The driver of the Ford f-150 stated that the sun created a glare, preventing them from noticing the red light they had driven through. The contact's vehicle was towed and deemed totaled by their insurance. A police report was filed. The contact received a broken rib, rotator cuff, whiplash, and back injuries. Medical attention was needed. The dealer was not informed of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2016

Travelling 30-35 mph. Tried to stop-brake pedal went to the floor and car accelerated. Hit a steel sign which totalled the car. Airbags failed to actvate even though the force of hitting the sign drove the engine back to the dashboard. City street.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

I was rear ended at by a car goin almost full speed in a speed limit zone of 45 at a red light, while I was slowing down. While approaching the line of cars in front of me I started slowing down pumping my breaks to let to drivers behind know I was slowing down. I was then rear ended and shot into the car in front of me, lifting up the front of my car and smashing into another vechile. My firewall was completely bent in as well as half of the front bumper and frame torn off. I had no airbags deploy on either the passenger or driver side. It makes me concerned that if I would have been stopped at the red light, I could have obtained severe injuries compared to the whiplash and shoulder pains I currently have.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

I became ill while driving through a road construction area, becoming nauseous and dizzy. My head banged against the steering wheel and I lost consciousness, the vehicle leaving the road. I understand from reports that the vehicle rolled and, from looking at it after the fact, I believe this to be accurate. However, none of the air bags went off. . . There were four: two in the front and one on each side. None of them deployed. I sustained minor injury to my face (swelling and bruising to my right eye from impact with steering wheel and probably shift knob as well) and a concussion. Local police filed an accident report. I have notified Toyota of this. They said at least the side bags should have deployed, if not all of them. They said they would conduct an investigation checking at least the vehicle's recording device within 30 days and get back to me. I provided them with the name, address and phone number of the wrecking service that towed my vehicle and was in current possession of it. I had been the owner of this car only since 12 September 2013, having purchased it from a carmax dealer in virginia beach, va.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

During the steering intermediat e shaft recall in 2013 the clockspring was damaged. After a few months the certain steering wheel buttons (info, front and rear defroster, and the recirculate air) worked intermitently at first. Then, about a a year after the recall, they only functioned when the wheel was turend sideways. Now they do not work at all. I'm concerned the air bag will be affected by this error.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

I found that there is malfunction on the buttons on steering wheel, especially info button and buttons for climate. I researched the problem on internet and I found the problem is caused by a bad clock spring. Also, I found the clock spring is related with air bag module. There are a lot of owners have the same problem (such as Priuschat. Com). I think that it could be a recall issue. And I experienced another problem. The accelerator pedal of my car was repaired by the recall service before. But when I release the accelerator pedal and try to push brake pedal, there is difference of height between both pedals. The height of brake pedal is higher than the accelerator pedal, even if I released the accelerator pedal. So it is dangerous to operate both pedals. When I tried to push the brake pedal after I released the accelerator pedal, my right feet was stuck with the brake pedal. I think the recall service for the accelerator pedal of my car was not successful. Or there is another problem on the brake pedal of Prius.

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2011

Tl- the contact owned a 2006 Toyota Prius. The contact stated she stopped suddenly and a vehicle crashed into the rear of her vehicle causing her to crash into the vehicle in front of her. The seat belt did not restrain her nor did the air bags deploy. The contact sustained neck and back injuries. There were no passenger in the vehicle. The front and rear end had extensive damage. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The insurance company was notified. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,900. Rvk.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

On our 2006 Toyota Prius, the air bag faulty alarm came on continuously in December, 2008 under warranty and repaired. Recently December 2009, the same air bag alarm came on again and remains on with engine on. We suspect there may be a faulty with the air bag system due to it coming in again in one year.

9 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

On August 25, 2009 my daughter was involved in an accident with our 2006 Toyota Prius. This car had low mileage and a new set of tires. My daughter was probably going the speed limit of 45 mph when an emergency vehicle brought traffic to a halt, my daughter put on brakes but still ending up hitting the vehicle in front of her resulting in totaling the Prius. Thankfully, she was not injured, but the people she hit have a claim in for injuries, though none visible at the time of the accident. My biggest problem with this is that although she hit the car in front square on completely demolishing the front end none of her air bags deployed, none. On calling julissa at Toyota headquarters I was told that they were designed not to deploy in this type of accident. I was dumbfounded, when were they supposed to deploy if not during a front end collision at about 35 mph. After I stopped shaking my head from disbelief I called back and spoke to a supervisor who in turn explained that the air bags reacted as designed, I suggested at that point that perhaps there may be a design flaw. I am not a rocket scientist but I have a pretty good idea what air bags are designed for, afterall I did pay all that money for them. Needless to say I was not happy and am still upset that they would think the public is so stupid. As I mentioned the car was totaled and at the time was valued at $17,000. I received a full pay off for the car but feel they owe me something for the equity that was lost when the vehicle was totaled. I have photos and recorded conversations regarding the car and Toyota representatives.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

Events: accident. Severe rear end and front end impact. Hit by large box truck, spun around, hit again by same truck. Failure: no air bag deployment of any sort. Correction: unknown. Automobile was a total loss.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2007

Accident occurred in 2007. I was driving in moderate traffic on a two lane road. A car, two cars ahead of me, slammed on their brakes, and forced everyone else to quickly brake. I also slammed on my brakes, to avoid a collision. My brakes failed to respond in time, and resulted in my rear ending an SUV in front of me. The accident caused several thousands of dollars worth of damage to the front end of the car. No air bags were deployed.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

I bought my Prius new in 2006, and the srs light has turned on intermittently since the first year. I first took the car into the dealer where I purchased it and they told me it was an anomaly and was nothing to be concerned about. This condition continued periodically over the life of the car with the same results each time. After the car was out of warranty, with a code Toyota informed me that the wiring assembly would need to be replaced on one or both sides of the vehicle. The code is b1821 and the part number is 82161-47310. They suggest that I have the driver's side wiring assembly replaced first, then they can determine whether the passenger side wiring assembly needs to be replaced, as well. The cost for the drivers side alone is $2415. 34. After I complained to Toyota customer care, they offered to reimburse $737. 75 for the part, if I have the work performed by a Toyota dealer. I would still have to pay $1,612 for labor (13 hours) plus shop charges and tax. If I have to have the passenger side wiring harness replaced as well, they will extend the same offer. I argued that this error has been happening prior to the expiration of my warranty and they told me that there was no action recommended until after the warranty expired. I also argued that there is no way that I could have done anything to cause this to happen, and that it is unreasonable to expect that wiring inside my vehicle that is covered, not exposed to sunlight or weather, should fail after 6 years. I asked Toyota to pay for 100% of the cost of the repair, but they refused. Meanwhile, one or both of my airbags are not working and will provide no protection in the event of a front-end collision.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2006

Hit from the side, spun, then crashed head on into a power pole. No airbags deployed. Even though equipped with the full curtain airbags, they did not deploy, nor did the front airbag. Due to no airbags my head hit the side door multiple times and steering wheel. I was knocked unconscious, taken to the hospital. Still have cuts on head, face swelling, black eye, neck injury and dizziness.
