One problem related to front air bag sensor control has been reported for the 2006 Toyota Prius. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Failure of airbag on 2006 Prius to deploy after rear ending a car a 25 mph. Car was totaled and chest and head swelling occurred due to hitting steering wheel. Calls to Toyota first indicated that air bag would not have been released due to "internal compartment of car not being violated. " after air bag engineer examined pictures, subsequent calls indicated that air bag could not have been released as sensors were not activated as car bumpers on car hit were higher than Prius.
