Brake Abs Warning Light Problems of Toyota Prius - part 2

The abs warning came on and we took it to the dealership for diagnosis. Apparently there was a "warranty enhancement program" attached to this car for this specific problem, the brake actuator assembly". However, even this is a known manufacturing-defect, Toyota is refusing to pay for this service because they reasoned that this has fallen out of their warranty dates, which included 2 types of coverage: primary coverage ended 12/31/2017 and secondary coverage for car less than 10 years old from the first use or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. According to Toyota, the first use of my Toyota Prius is 10/13/2007, and 10 years from that date is 10/13/2017, which came before even the deadline for primary coverage. This "warranty enhancement program" is for 2004-2009 Prius. You would think it will cover at least until the last manufactured car of 2009, but that was not the case. Also, the dealer and the manufacturer both stated that they can't fix it unless you actually have the abs light turned on and it warns about the issue. You would think if that light comes on, it will be very dangerous if you are driving 60 mph on the freeway and you can't brake! Toyota definitely did not think so. The repairs I was quoted for this particular problem is $2800 + tax, which is expensive and I can't afford to pay for it. I feel ridiculed because this is a manufacturing defect and it is not something related to wear-and-tear. Toyota acknowledged that this is a manufacturer defect and the reason they refuse to pay for this service is because it fell outside of the "extended warranty period". We did not even receive the notice to begin with; I found this out on the internet and apparently, a lot of people have this problem with their vehicles and Toyota either dragged out the timeline of repair so that it will surpass the deadline stated on the letter of the program.

Vsc, brake, and abs lights are on symptoms: cruise control will bump up the speed then "cancel" cruise control the ability to "set" cruise is rejected vsc, brake, abs lights turn on no regen braking brakes need way more effort to slow/stop abrupt braking will cause a skid any help will be appreciated.

I was driving at about 35 mph and all of a sudden my brakes stopped working. The brake , abs and traction lights came on all at once. I somehow made it home but I could have easily crashed. I had my 9 year old in the back seat and he also got very scared. Now I cannot drive my car and the brakes feel as they as stuck and very hard. I took my car to a reputable mechanic and he told me it is giving him code c1391. This is the same problem that the 2010 Prius had under the recall. My Prius is 2011 and not under the recall. I feel that the 2011 should be under recall because many thousands of lives are in danger now.

Brake actuator problem on my 2005 Prius. I have this vehicle I have been driving for since October and has always made this noise from the front like a pump running. The car itself did not have an issue until recently the abs light and brakes started acting up. I have found out that Toyota had a warranty enhancement that expired in December this year. I had called a local dealer when I purchased the vehicle to see if there was any kind of recalls and they said none for this vehicle. This part is a known part that fails and when it does it could end up making the car like a run away train with no brakes depending on your speed. I tried contacting Toyota today but got pretty much no where they are saying that I need to bring it to them and pay them 3,000 dollars. The repair is not possible to be made by anyone else without a special scan tool the cars brakes will sometimes go away completely and the pedal becomes stiff and the vehicle will not brake. If there is any other info needed please let me know.

Abs light stays on, I have no brakes when emergency braking, there was a Toyota Prius recall on brake master cylinder and booster pump but Toyota said it was not for my vehicle. My problem is exactly the same problem as other Prius brake recalls but Toyota will not cover it. Less then 65,000 miles on the car . How can a master cyl be bad by now, they usually last over 100,000 miles. Very unsafe , and may kill someone. This should be covered by Toyota with all the other brake recall problems with this year and model. I had to slam on my brakes but my car would not stop causing me to run into a wall at the baltimore harbor tunnel. This is a recall and letters were sent out by Toyota about this faulty braking but now Toyota will not honor the recall.

While driving at 45mph vsc, parking brake, and abs lights comes on and stays on after research it seems to be a fairly common issue with the 2012 Prius. Still waiting for Toyota to do smething about it.

Breaking ceases to work at random intervals. Abs light turns on and then off. Problem is very random and unexplained. Sometimes occurs at a light or when taking off from the park position. Seems that a recall should have been issued for this issue.

Generation 2 Toyota Prius brake actuator. At slow speed, the brakes became inoperable and would not stop the car causing me to rear end a truck stopped in front of me at a stop light. All of the brake, abs lights came on the dash. 2 separate trips to the dealer to have the brakes checked resulted in no error codes found. Today 2-8-18 the dash lights all came on again, and the dealer said the computer code is stating faulty brake actuator which could result in total brake failure.

The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the VIN was not included in recall and did not offer further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. Aw.

The contact stated that he kept driving but when depressing the brake pedal the brakes locked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whom diagnosed the failure as leak in the brake accumulator and the brake booster pump assembly needed replacementbut the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated he contacted his insurance company whom informed him of NHTSA campaign number: 13v235000 (service brakes) and advised him to take the vehicle to a Toyota dealership. The vehicle was taken to tejas Toyota 19011 highway 59 n humble, TX 77338 (281) 446-0271, where it was also diagnosed with a leak in the brake accumulator and the brake booster needed replacement as well as the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 165,600. Aa.

My car had the abs warning light on and I heard a strange noise in the engine compartment. Last year. On October 7, 2017, I was driving on the highway and another driver cut me off, so I had to break hard. The car pulled hard to one side and I hit the retaining wall. Fortunately, the damage to the car was on the bumper cover only, and I was not injured, so I was able to continue driving. The dealer ran diagnostics on my car after the crash and reported I needed to have certain parts replaced. Toyota safety recall 13v-235 describes exactly the symptoms my car shows and requires replacement of exactly the same parts. The only problem is that my car's VIN does not fall in the range Toyota reported in the recall. Apart from that , the problem is the same. My accident could have been very serious had the retaining wall that stopped me not been there. I could have been in the center lanes and the story would have been very different, even with me surviving the accident.

On October 7, 2017 a driver cut me off on the highway, I pressed my brakes hard and the vehicle pulled to the side and I hit the retaining wall. The impact was not too hard and I was able to continue travelling. The abs warning light is on and I hear a strange humming noise under the hood. The dealer ran diagnostics and said I needed to replace two main parts in the brake system. I found a Toyota safety recall 13v-235 affecting other Prius 2010 that describes exactly the same problem and requires replacement of exactly the same parts indicated in the safety recall. The only problem is that Toyota reported this problem in vehicles of the same year and model, but my car's VIN was not included in their indicated range. Thank you for your help.

My headlight passenger side keeps going out after a few seconds of turning on. This keeps me from driving at night. My computer controls on my dash board that works the ac. And displays the information about the car does not work. My abs break light will not go off. This has affected my breaking system on my car. All of these items I have mentioned all occurred while I was driving the car.

I used a uhual tow dolly to move my car about 30 miles. When I turned on the car to remove it from the dolly the vsc, brake & abs lights were on. I confirmed that my abs do not currently work.

Abs and break light lit while going 55 mph. Lost antilock break feature. Local port st lucie tire and break diagnosed bad master cylinder and nitrogen leak into break lines. Found recall on similar 2010 Prius' due to nitrogen leakage into break lines.

Abs light came on. Diag code: c1391. Abnormal leak in accumulator. This problem is similar to a recall on Prius 2010 for abs brake issue. However, Toyota said that my Prius is not part of the recall. I would like to request Toyota to fix this problem for my Prius 2010 so that I can safely drive this car.

I was in an automobile accident where I rear ended vehicle in front of me. I tried to stop but the vehicle would not stop or even make an attempt to slow down. My ankle suffered a severe twist from trying to apply brakes. There was plenty of room to stop but the brakes would not react to slow down vehicle. There was a car coming in the oncoming lane so I could not go around vehicle in front of me. My vehicle was in motion in the city and I was going straight. The pavement was a little rough and my abs light was going off and all I could do was hit vehicle in front of me due to brakes failing and not slowing me down.

I change the brake booster twice and hace the same problem. My brake pedal loss of braking ability or slipping brakes and the warning brake, abs and traction light permanently on, and no cruise control works at all.

I was driving my vehicle at about 35 mph on a two lane, hilly road. Suddenly, the abs and warning lights started flashing, and there was a loud beeping noise. I pressed the brake pedal, and there was no response. Since I was traveling uphill, I slowed and then used my emergency brake to come to a complete stop. Traction control and abs warning lights came on. Cruise control stopped working. Took it to Toyota who said codes indicated failure of master cylinder. Cost of repair $3,400. I think they have a defective part problem.

High pitched, steady tone comes on after several minutes of driving at start of driving day and does not stop unless/until brakes are depressed fully for at least 10sec. , which causes tone to stop. Starts up again after several minutes of driving, sometimes less and recycles. Regular braking seems to work, but not abs and abs light, vsc ! lights are continuously on.

While driving on highway about 60mph, vehicle suddenly lost brakes. Brake, abs and vsc idiot light went on. Inside vehicle buzzer sounded. Very little hydraulic braking. Was only able to stop vehicle because I was going up hill.

Car loses braking ablities when going over rough terrain or slippery terrain. The abs initiates but then stops. The abs light can be seen on the dash (normal). This action is very frightening. The stopping distances have left room for error, so no accidents yet.

Traveling at 40 m. P. H. A pickup truck pulled out onto the roadway ahead about 150ft. I depressed the brake and the vehicle slowed quickly at first to roughly 35 m. P. H. When the abs warning light displayed for a brief moment to about 30 m. P. H. After the warning light stopped flashing; 2 flashes, about 1/2 of a second, the pressure was solid and the vehicle slowed minimally. I managed to stop the vehicle in time, but felt that the brake system had failed to properly slow the vehicle. It felt like stopping a train. I feel unsafe in this vehicle under these conditions and have seen a lot of similar incidences reading online. I'm concerned for my the safety of my family and other motorist, and feel that Toyota should take the responsibility to resolve this issue with these vehicles.

I was driving car about 25 miles p h and sandalee the abs lights came up and its was ready hard to stop the car somehow break wasn't working properly.

In the morning I started my car and the abs light and warning lights came on and started beeping. I reversed my car slightly to check the brakes and noticed my brakes were not being responsive. I put the vehicle into park and called the wondries Toyota dealership and told them my brakes were not functioning properly and my abs warning light was on. Despite my having informed them of my brake failure, they told me to bring the car into the dealership. I reversed out of my garage, shifted the car into drive, and proceeded down the hill with caution. I did not press on the accelerator. My car began to accelerate down the hill due to gravity and reached a speed of approximately 15 mph, at which time I pumped the brake pedal but the car would not stop or slow down, and it continued moving down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, after traveling approximately 1/4 of a mile, I turned right into a small street with a slight incline in order to stop the momentum. My car slowed and I put on the emergency brake and put the car into park. I called my brother for help. When he arrived, I turned the car on to show him the flashing abs warning. It flashed for about another 15 seconds before suddenly stopping. My brakes then began functioning again though they felt spongy when I pressed down on it. I turned on my emergency lights and drove slowly to the dealership. I parked the car and turned off the engine. When a representative came by, I turned on the car and she pressed down on the brake to feel them. The abs lights suddenly came on again and she said the brake pressure did not feel right and there was something definitely wrong with my brakes. After it was assessed I was informed I needed a new abs actuator assembly and an accumulator pump for the master cylinder. Total cost was estimated as $4600.

While cruising at 35 mph, experienced sudden onset of high pitch noise along with the red warning light and abs light being illuminated on console. When attempting to brake, noticed that the brake pedal felt very stiff and not depress. Fortunately, there were no cars in front, and was able to gradually stop the vehicle by pressing on the brake as hard as possible. The braking distance felt a lot further than usual. After coming to a stop and waiting a few minutes, stopped and restarted the engine. The high pitch noise stopped once the engine turned off. Once the engine was back on, the brake pedal felt normal again, and while the abs light was no longer illuminated, the red warning light remained on. Took the car immediately to the Toyota dealer where my car is normally serviced, and they indicated there was a fault code c1300 and recommended replacing the skid control ecu (part# 89540-47130). Looks like there is at least one other incident reported on this (odi id# 10320472). This seems to be a major safety hazard due to potential loss of braking power if this component goes out. Request investigation and safety recall as appropriate.

I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius. My car has 26,000 miles on it; which is very low mileages. While I was on the highway, my car`s lights on the dashboard starts to flash. The brake system warning light and buzzer comes on along with the abs warning light and the malfunction indicator lamp. I had nowhere to pull aside. After two minutes the warning signs shut off so I kept driving. Five minutes later, all the warning lights come on so I decide to get off the highway to take it to the knoxville Toyota dealer. As I`m exiting the highway, I immediately realized that I had no breaks (when I pressed the brake pedal with my foot it automatically touched the ground)! I remembered that my dad always told me that in case of a brake emergency to pump the paddle until the breaks work. I almost crashed into another car; the exit ramp was very steep. I was going about 50 miles per hr by then; luckily I managed to stop while I kept pumping my breaks. I took it to the dealer right away. They checked my car and replaced: pump assy. Water, super long life c, inverter coolant pump, sliding yoke, reflashed engine and hv ecu and shaft kit. Steeri. I found my case very dangerous and my life was at risk. Not only was my life at risk but as well as other individuals. I would hate for this to happen to someone else! it was scary and I felt like my life might have been over.
