2013 Prius v - brand new. Brakes make a grinding noise when cold. Three different Toyota dealerships told me that it is normal for the brakes to grind when cold. Nothing they could do about it. Vehicle now has 15,000 miles on it and it still makes grinding noises when cold. I had a 2010 Prius and had no problems with it. Found on the Toyota owners website there are several others with the same problem. One of them had the seattle Toyota dealership fix the problem: Toyota of seattle 1,379 service details rear brake noise when cold Prius v r&r both calipers, r. Dsc 1-sd (on-veh) comb: opposite side there is a fix and Toyota is refusing to fix the problem. Please issue a recall for this problem before the grinding brakes become a loss of braking action and accidents occur.

Repeating several-second groaning or grinding noise heard from rear wheel area upon startup motion. The noise is severe and sounds like low-pitch metal grinding. It's potentially brake related but could be suspension bushings or other components rubbing against one another. It does not sound like typical brake glazing. The noise occurs in all weather conditions and typically after vehicle has been sitting for several hours or overnight. Noise continues for several minutes at stop and start. Noise is loud enough to startle an experienced driver. The absolute severity and indication of the sound is enough to question safe ongoing functionality of braking and/or suspension systems. Multiple reports are documented online at Priuschat. Com. Toyota does not appear to have a fix or resolution at time of writing, 10/2012. This is for 2012 Prius v model five.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, a grinding noise was heard from the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technicians advised that the failure was undetected. The technician also stated that there were other vehicles with the same failure and the manufacturer was working on a remedy. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to the dealer on numerous occasions for the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200 and the current mileage was 2,122.

I had been hearing a lot of grinding noises that just got worse. When I went to the dealer, they discovered that my brake pads had failed/frozen. They replaced my pads and machined my rotors. They could not explain why a car I had for only a little over a year had this problem. They at first blamed my driving, and then the roads (I. E. Too many gravel roads). Now, at 68,300 miles those pads have now failed again. One is completely worn down and the rotor is now rusted through. No one can explain why this is happening. When I demanded an answer, they told me that a "bulletin" had gone out to the dealers only stating that due to the pads failing, they were "redesigning" them. But, they would only replace for free those that fell under the 36,000 mile warranty. I don't understand why, in less than 69,000 miles I have had to have this repair done not once, but twice. They tell me no other owner has had this problem, but I find that hard to believe. Can anyone tell me if there are other complaints of this type, and what can be done to rectify this problem.

1. I purchased this 2010 Prius in August 2010. I have experienced unanticipated acceleration two times since the last (initial) service. Once with my husband driving on route 17 and the other time while I was driving on a local road. 2. As I stated in my service paperwork when the car was first serviced, there is a problem with the brakes. They do not stop on uneven road surfaces, such as pot holes, bumps, etc. Your service department said that this is caused by the abs and it is ?normal?. Obviously there is still a problem. Please advise what will be done to correct this issue. 3. When start the engine first thing in the morning (or when the car has not been driven for a while) often, but not always, it makes a grinding noise when starting.
I have a 2008 Toyota Prius and my problem is with the braking and the anti skid coming on even on dry pavement. I have also a noise that comes from braking when the car is stopped. When you press on the brake it makes a clicking and grinding noise even when the car is not going. I have had it in about 4-5 times for these 2 problems and 3 times they bled the brakes and 2 times they changed the actuator. This problem started about 3-4 months after I purchased my 2008 Prius.

Every time we step on and off the brake there is a grinding noise. I have visited 2 dealerships to help identify the problem at least 7 Toyota people have verified the noise but are unable to determine the cause. The local rep originally said I hear it, don't know what it is and therefore cannot fix it. After I contacted their corporate hqs in CA he now says it is a normal noise. Without explaining cause. This is a 2008 Prius vehicle. Friends who have 2005,2007 and 2009 Prius' do not have this noise. It is a life threatening problem until the cause is determined. Since it involves the brakes. I have a detailed list of all the actions I have taken, which individuals verified the noise and the individuals I have spoken to concerning this problem. Is it a faulty electric motor or controller between gas and electric motor? this vehicle uses the electric motor as part of the braking system. Did the vehicle design put a noise in 2008 and take it out in 2009? please help me have Toyota examine the vehicle and determine the cause of the noise and fix it. Please help before someone gets hurt. Fred zivitofsky.
: the contact stated upon entering a highway at 60 mph, the vehicle accelerated rapidly. Brake pressure was applied, but the vehicle did not stop accelerating. Each time brake pressure was applied; there was a loud grinding noise. Although the cruise control was not engaged, the cruise control was manually activated in an attempt to stop the acceleration. With brake pressure applied, the contact managed to exit the freeway using the exit ramp. When the vehicle slowed, the park button option was pressed and the vehicle stopped. There was no further acceleration or grinding noise. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and is awaiting inspection of the problem. The consumer also stated, when she applied the brakes, the pedal became soft and went to the floor. Updated.
