The car began to jerk, made knocking noises, miss fires on cylinder 1, 2 and 4, coolant leakages, oil leakages, compression issues and the check engine light keeps turning on and off. My safety has been put into play because, the car would jerk many of times as it would want to stop as I was driving. I would then have to pull over and call for assistance. Per the Toyota service advisor he recommended that I needed a new rebuilt engine kit. The extended warranty company stated that I was negligent with my car and denied my claim and refused to pay for the 10 grand motor and I had to tow my car to another shop. However, the car at this time is still experiencing the same malfunctions. The warning lamps are still showing at this present time and prior to the failure of problem. This car meets the "lemon law guidelines, however, I have been informed otherwise that I don't meet the criteria for lemon law due it being expired sometime last year in oct of 2024. As stated this is a lemon car.

Got rear end on 08. 21. 2023. Was able to drive car to work next day. Once I got home the abs, traction control, and brake light went on. Using obd2 scanner. I entered a large, strip mall parking area and was driving at the vastly reduced speed one would use in such a situation. My intention was to park my car to enter a store in the mall. I turned a corner to park on the side of the building (parking options were limited). As I entered a parking space (moving at the speed one would drive to do so; essentially incredibly slowly; moving forward into the space at almost 0 mph and already applying the brake). Suddenly and with no warning, the car violently lurched forward at a vastly increased speed. I pressed down on the brake harder to try to stop the vehicle, but it propelled into and over the concrete curb stop and into the thick brick wall in front of me. There is considerable damage to the front end of my vehicle as a result. I was horrified at this dangerous situation. My safety was definitely at risk. I feel very fortunate that I wasn't seriously injured (and that no one, either a pedestrian or another driver, was involved in the accident). The airbags didn't deploy and I was of course, wearing my safety belt, which kept me from any severe injury. I do feel some physical injury effects this morning however (sore neck, shoulder, back; a slight headache). I'm not aware of any warning lamps, messages, etc. Going off, but I must say everything happened very quickly. I've reported the accident to my insurance company & filed a claim. Given that the incident happened on the evening before the July 4th holiday, my insurance company scheduled vehicle towing (flatbed) for my car. It's my understanding that it's being stored at the tow company location & will be delivered tomorrow (Wednesday, 7/5/23) to the certified body repair facility recommended by my insurance company and chosen by me. An insurance adjuster will be doing their evaluation, likely in the next few days, at the earliest tomorrow morning. I've also advised the insurance company of these details & told them of my safety concerns and fears.

One afternoon, in the summer of 23, I entered my Toyota Prius to run some errands. Once I proceeded to power on the car, none of the dashboard lights illuminated. This included the gas gauge, speedometer & transmission indicator. Fortunately, I was only driving a few blocks down the road from my residence as I live in a small rural town with little congestion, little traffic and mostly two-lane roads. I can't imagine this occurring in a much larger metropolitan city. When I arrived at my destination, I discovered that my Prius wouldn't shut off. This dashboard malfunction was preventing the Toyota from powering off. I quickly completed my errands with my vehicle running during this entire ordeal. Finally, when I returned home, I frantically researched on youtube regarding this issue and discovered many others who also were having these no-illuminating-dashboard problems. Some youtubers offered workarounds but the solutions will be temporary as the problem will eventually worsen until the Prius owners have no working dashboard lights. From the way I understand it, this problem is nothing more than a small computer board that's behind the speedometer and this computer board has a small diode that tends to burn out on all kinds of Toyota Priuses when it reaches around 150,000 miles.

Head gasket failure.
We were driving kids to camp and the thermometer light went on. It was blinking for a while, then turned off and then turned steadily on. We weren't sure what to do, so we called our trusty mechanic who said "bring it in right now. " we did and it turned out that this was a broken head gasket. Our car is regularly maintained by a trusted Prius mechanic and has less than 78k miles, despite its age. From our mechanic: we found the engine coolant was low in the radiator. We filled the system and pressure-tested, found no external leaks. The thermostat and fans operate normally. We found 54 ppm hcs in the radiator initially, and after a test-drive we re-checked and found 110 ppm hc in the radiator. Combustion chamber gas is getting into the cooling system, typically a symptom of headgasket failure. The cylinder head needs to be removed to evaluate. Fyi this is the first headgasket failure we have seen on the 4th gen Prius, but it is the same engine designation as the 3rd gen Prius, which has a pattern problem of headgasket failure. The expectation is that the failure is the same, but we need to open the engine to evaluate. Given the low mileage, it might be worth pushing Toyota for a goodwill warranty even though it is out of the official powertrain warranty period. I called Toyota and they refused to pass along a goodwill warranty.

On may 16, 2023 I was slowly driving out of a market parking lot when the car suddenly accelerated, full throttle, and speeded across the street (colusa avenue, berkeley, CA), crashing head on into a fence. Immediately after the crash, the dashboard displayed the following: "check engine (!) a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer to have your vehicle inspected. " the car was towed and is now at a body shop selected by my insurance company, aaa. I received whiplash, small bruises on my chest and left hand, and a scraped shin. I was taken to alta bates emergency by ambulance.

The car was serviced regularly and for unknown reason the engine started running rough. I took it the mechanic and after completing a diagnostic test he said I have a blown had gasket in the engine. After reading online about the issue I discovered this year and model of Toyota are notorious for having a blown head gasket issue. My mechanic recommended the engine be replaced. This is an expensive repair and Toyota is denying any accountability about the issue.

On September 2022 (at 46k) dealer did TSB related fix on my 2016 Prius. Pfa for service record. They replaced exhaust front pipe, which is suggested work from Toyota pfa for Toyota technical bulletin. T-sb-0135-19 at 51,747 on March 1st 2023 around 8 40 am, while we are driving on highway at 70 mph suddenly check engine light, coolant light, hybrid related lights were on vehicle lost the control, speed was dropping luckily we could safely stop the vehicle on the shoulder no vehicle hit us from behind. Sudden stop of engine while driving on highway at 51k miles is safety issue. Toyota dealer could not provide additional details except engine is over heating.
If I make a longer trip more than 10 to 15 miles the car does fine if I drive it 2 miles down the road or across the street to a different store the car tells me to check hybrid system. I had it check and code c1391 came up and that was repaired. Once repaired picked up from shop drove across the street to gas station and it told me to check hybrid system again and went into limp mode. Once I do a reset the car will start back up and drive fine as long as it's a long trip if I go on another short trip it will do it again.
Car slows down to a stop when driving on the freeway. With no power to accelerate, it makes it hard to get to the side of the road to be towed. Been to the dealer twice to address the problem, and was told that if I don't pay $200, that there is nothing they can do. Then when I did pay the money for evaluation, they told me the problem could be one of several things that would start the never-ending process of repairs that will keep me paying until they solve it. I would think that with a $200 code reading, that the dealers software could narrow it down to the exact repair needed. I mentioned to the dealer about the jov update I had done earlier to the car, but dealer refuses to recognize that there is a recall on my vehicle, and that I needed to pay money(that I don't have) to do anything. My check hybrid system light and orange triangle comes on when the car dies.

I was driving home from work when all the warning light all came on at once. The car suddenly stopped accelerating and the “check hybrid system” was showing on my dash. I was lucky enough to be going down hill so I can make it to a shoulder to get off the road. Tried troubleshooting everything but to no avail and needed to get towed because the Prius would not move at all. Haven’t got the vehicle checked yet because the vehicle will not move and can only be moved if towed.

In September 2022, my car, a 2012 Toyota Prius v with 79, 056 miles, began making noises in the engine area and the brakes became loose, meaning it took more pressure on the brake pedal to engage the brakes. In November 2022 the following warning lamps on the dashboard came master warning light, brake system warning light and warning buzzer, brake system warning light, abs warning light and slip indicator. I took it to the Toyota dealership near lipton Toyota in ft. Lauderdale, FL, and they diagnosed car with the trouble code of c1391-abnormal leak of accumulator, internal abs actuator failure. To fix this problem, lipton Toyota will charge $3124. 29 for the repair. Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. Issued a customer support program notification that would cover this repair if the malfunctions happened before coverage ended. Primary coverage was applicable until December 31, 2021 with no year/mileage limitation. Secondary coverage was applicable for 10 years from the vehicle's date of first use or 150,000 whichever occurs first. Date of first use on my Prius v was 03/01/2012 and my mileage is 79k. So as you can see, I am just out of the coverage window. My private mechanic and myself have appealed our case to Toyota that this problem should be a recall with no limits on coverage. (Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. - case reference # 230206000678) I believe that if I had driven my car more, (which was not done because of the pandemic 2020-2021) this issue would have come up before the cut off date for repair coverage. I also believe that this problem with the brake booster and brake booster pump assemblies on certain 2012-2014 model year Prius v vehicles should be a recall.

The break master cylinder is lighted up on the dashboard and the abs system is not working which makes me sliding when I'm trying to use brakes. This is consistent with the error codes in the NHTSA 19v491000 recall and Toyota safety recalls e0e and f0r.

Shortly after having my Toyota serviced, I had an engine coolant warning sign appear. I checked and noted the coolant was gone. I bought coolant and filled the coolant tank. A week later, I see the light again. I have seen no leakage at all on the ground. I refilled the coolant and checked again the next morning. Again the tank is empty. I took the car to a local reputable service person and thus far, he sees no leakage outside of the car. This suggests to him a bigger problem, where the coolant is going somewhere it should not. If it is to the engine, I will have to replace that!!.

I am certain the car was not still running while we unloaded groceries from hatchback and left the garage. * nothing was retrieved from the front seat so no accidental start could have occurred. * my son "heard it start" almost 3 hours after the vehicle had been shut off while in another room near the garage. * I heard nothing from the upstairs. * the Prius key fob was nowhere near the vicinity of the vehicle at the time it started nor was any person.
