Tl the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that a warning indicator flashed on the instrument panel regarding the brake system when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also noticed smoke coming from the exhaust system. The contact inspected the vehicle and found a leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to salinas Toyota (700 auto center cir, salinas, CA 93907, (831) 444-0700) where it was diagnosed that there was an internal brake fluid leak; however, the vehicle was excluded from the manufacturer warranty campaign. The manufacturer indicated that the obt2 sensor did not show the specific diagnostic trouble code (dtc) to receive the brake actuator replacement covered by the campaign. The dealer and the manufacturer refused to honor the warranty campaign for dtc number: c1240. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Currently using approximately 1 quart of oil per 2,000 miles. That comes out to 5 quarts per 10,000 mile oil change--which is more than the 4. 4 quarts that the car holds. No drips under the car. No clouds of smoke out of the exhaust. The oil usage slowed down, when I tried using castril full synthetic oil--at the suggestion of a neighbor of mine, instead of the Toyota dealer oil and mobil 1. It is a concern, that the exhaust system might be plugging up--due to this oil use issue. I have an extended warranty to 200,000. The warranty company told me today, that, they will only cover internal engine part breakage, or whatever my factory warranty was. They will not cover the cause of the oil use, and they will not cover damage caused by lack of oil. So, I was told, to make sure I keep it full of oil. Toyota should consider how this will affect their future business. A big sales point to the Prius is, that, it should last a really long time. It may last a long time, yet. I'll keep adding oil and we shall see. In the mean time, I plan to get a road side assistance package that includes towing. . . .

A gasoline and or oil smell in the car that permeates everything in the car. My clothes, computer bag, papers, just everything that comes in contact with the inside of the car. I also get sick from the odor ie headaches, nausea, blurred vision, dizziness. I also have a burning taste in my mouth, throat and eyes. I have been to the doctors and they there is no other reason for me to be feeling the way I do and that it is the environment of my car that is producing this very serious irritant . The dealer service center said it is from the broken bearing that was replaced, broken and not my fault. This must also be a recall problem because they said it happens alot.
