My Toyota Prius was involved in a hit run accident. Yark collision completed work on vehicle. When picking up car from yark my car would not start spoke with one of the mechanic he said my battery died and I explained to them I had no issues ,prior to bringing my car to yark I had just had diagnostic test done at Toyota. Vehicle sat at my residence over night and vehicle had died again. I contacted yark told them I was bringing battery in for them to charge because I was not sure as to what was going on since we had already replaced battery. Vehicle also had my skid plate in trunk prior to drop off and now I am having electrical issues my horn now does not work and I have children . I did not receive my car until 1 month and half due to insurance not getting back to us . Vehicle has been non drivable since pick up.

Horn stopped working in November 2018. Dealer tells me that there is an opening in the spiral cable which is causing horn not to work. Entire spiral cable needs to be replaced. This vehicle has had driver's airbag recalled once, maybe twice. Did spiral cable get damaged in one of these recalls? I know that there was a recall in earlier Toyotas with same part, but not this year and model, wondering if there should be.
Often referred clock spring as it is referred to part number 84307-47020 it affects a multitude of things on my car that are safety related including the horn, the buttons on the steering wheel that control the radio and tricks odometer, the airbag, maybe be airbags plearle, be adaptive cruise control and maybe other things. My knowledge my car has never been wrecked or had airbags blown and this is very premature for this part to fail. Believe Toyota should take responsibility for it. The warning light came on and it says in the manual that is unsafe to drive. Do not have a clue why it failed. The Toyota dealer repair is close to $900 which is ridiculous.
My car has a clunking/rattle sound when going over bumps or uneven roads even without brakes slightly engaged. It also does this when driving over 60 mph on smooth roads but if I turn wheels slightly left or right the sound stops and when I turn them back straight it begins again. It is so bad that you can feel it on your feet and strongly thru the steering colum. Also the front tires wear heavily on the inside edge. It feels like steering column may be loose at times. Also the horn keeps blowing fuses and when you put a new fuse in the drivers side door will shock you e every time you try to exit the vehicle. And the outside air temp will not read temp. I had new tires put on to replace old front tires and rotated all and balanced and just had new brakes put on from dealship. Radio reception is horrible even though other vehicles in same area get great reception. I love this car but I did buy it used so I am not sure if all recalls have been fixed or if they need fixed again. It seems like a lot of mechanics have no idea what they are doing.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Toyota Prius. The contact stated the horn was inoperable. The contact stated that if the steering was turned to the left or the right the horn functions as intended however, if the steering wheel was centered the horn was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to lia Toyota of northampton, located at 280 king street, northampton, MA 01060, tel: 413-341-5299 to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000. Ah.
The spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel has created a short circuit and now the horn no longer works. I am concerned this is a similar problem as other 2010 Toyotas experienced and had this same part recalled in 2014 to ensure the airbag would go off appropriately if needed.

The spiral cable is defective, horn stopped working two weeks ago, cruise control stopped working last week. There has been alot of complaints about this cable. Toyota has had recalls for the tacoma and yaris that use the same part number. The air bag uses the same cable. This is a big safety issue. The cost to replace this cable is $890. 00. Someone needs to look into this issue. What is the criteria for a recall, someone dieing.
I have seen the recent recall related to many makes and models of Toyota's for the clock-springs or spiral cables in the steering wheel. This is a very important part of the car which provides the electrical connection for many components such as the steering wheel controls, horn, and air bags. I have heard of others with the same issues in their generation ii Prius (2004-2009). My spiral cable has recently stopped working as well and seeing as this is a safety issue I believe Toyota should be responsible for correcting it.
Toyota Prius emits a loud and distracting beeping tone inside the cabin when placed in reverse. The tone is so loud that a driver may not hear shouts, a horn, or other exterior noise indicating a hazard while reversing. Toyota dealerships charge hundreds of dollars to turn off the interior beeping, despite the evident safety hazard is poses.
2003 Toyota Prius. Consumer writes in regards to recall notice concerning pinion shaft nuts on the electric power steering
the consumer stated the recall was performed at the dealership on August 10, 2011. Upon leaving the dealership, when the consumer attempted to use the horn, he discovered it was not working. The consumer returned to the dealer, to inform them, the horn had been disconnected or maybe a wire had come off. The dealer stated the recall had nothing to do with the horn. The consumer stated the horn was working prior to arriving at the dealer. The consumer then contacted Toyota customer service and they contacted the dealer. The dealer stated it was just a coincidence that the horn broke while performing the recall. According to the service invoice, the horn and cruise control short power spiral cable was bad. The consumer stated the dealer refunded his money. Updated 09/23/jb
consumer's issue resolved 12/6/11.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Prius. While driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle lost complete power, shut off and she had no control over the vehicle; however, she was able to restart it within five minutes. She took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the vehicle needed a new battery which she purchased and installed. Two weeks later, the failure occurred again. She took the vehicle to a second dealer who performed a diagnostics test which a code produced cited that a brake problem occurred. She called the manufacturer and a representative stated that they would notify her. On 3 occasions, when the vehicle was parked, the lights would flash on and off then the horn would honk for about a minute. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The current mileage was approximately 57,000. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

2005 Toyota Prius, new Nov. 2004, current mileage 11,100 miles, incident Aug. 13, 2005, 9:10 pm. Driving for 30 minutes at a steady rate of 45 mph on rte. 78, 11/12 tank of gas, no air conditioning or radio on. Auto hestitated. Dashboard symbols indicated problem: brake failure, check engine, hybrid system failure. Another symbol was on computer screen - car with line drawn vertically through it. Battery usage indicator was disappearing. This all occured within minute or less. Pulled into a noco gasoline station. Put car in park but couldn't get the power off that kept the dashboard lights, headlights, air conditioning, horn on. Couldn't restart my car. I could only put my car into nuetral or park. Auto towed to the closed Toyota dealership. Dashboard lights remained on. Unable to start the car or to lock the door manually or with the keyless system. Sunday, checked the carand the dashboard lights were off but I still couldn't start the car or lock the doors. Monday, explained my problem to service manager. This is what was done: new battery installed. No reprogramming of the ecu because the computer memory was gone due to this failure. Manager did not seem to understand what I meant about reprogramming the computer although said received all service bulletins from Toyota. Asked for a copy of the work order for my records but he said he had to still figure out hours and so would send me a copy at a later date. . He explained the replaced battery communicated with the hybrid system and was sure this was the cause of the power failure. I had hoped the ecu would have been reprogramed. It wasn't. Special service campaigns 40a or 40 d are unknown to me. My vehicle has shown no problems during the last five days. Can I get my computer reprogrammed? is it necessary? recall going to be issued? I'm not safe!.
Omg, omg its so fresh in my mind!. I was terrified. My daughter(oldest) was in a terrible car accident and was taken to the hospital(mary washington in va. ) I was at work and got the horrific call about 1745hrs (rush hour). I jumped in my car(2004-prius) I I can't tell you how I felt. As I entered the hov lanes from DC to va, my car started pausing. . I've felt this before, so I hit the info button and see my battery took over and is on 4 lines! I then see the alert lights illuminate on my dash! this can't be happening?, not now!. . I immediately hit my horn and avoid getting slammed into by vehicles behind me. I slowly creep on my last battery line onto the righthand shoulder. My Prius died. I called Toyotas' (rap>roadside assistance program) and a tow truck was sent. I broke down in DC and (toyotas' rap) only takes me 50miles from the breakdown. I live 62 miles away! this is not acceptable! I was towed to springfield Toyotan and it was closed! (it is now 2130hrs! and I'm still not at the hospital and I'm in tears!) the tow truck driver was nice enough to tell me to call my insurance CO. I did and they sent another tow truck to pick me up. It is now 2230hrs! I still don't know the status of my daughter! the tow truck brings me to fredericksburg but to a Nissan dealership, it seems the address was wrong. We figured out that Toyota pohanka was down the street and the tow truck driver was considerate enough to bring me there. I had to drop off the vehicle and lucky I had someone pick me up to bring me home. Toyota pohanka of fredericksburg called me the next day and said they found error code p3191 referred to the TSB and reprogrammed the engine ecm per instructions.
